Let Them Eat Cake

I sampled this at a shop, and decided to buy the hand lotion because it was a bit cheaper and I've been looking for a good hand lotion for some time. The formula for their hand lotions is wonderful, very light and non greasy yet moisturizing. It doesn't cause the skin to drag the way that some lotions can. The scent in the lotion and the perfume are identical. That being said, I'm lusting after the perfume so much right now! If you're a lover of gourmand scents but find some of them to be a little bit too sweet or cloying this might be a nice choice for you. I can't review about longevity of the perfume because I don't own it but I can say that the village is about an arms length maybe. My grandma was walking next to me and commented on it. As for a description of the scent, I don't really get coconut at all. To me it doesn't really smell like cooked cake or even cake batter. To me this smells like meringue. Or rather it smells like the moment when you're whipping together the egg whites and vanilla extract. To my nose it doesn't have the sugary element added yet. I like that about it! It's definitely one of my new favorites. UPDATE: I just ordered it directly from their website (instead of the boutique where I got) and I'm thinking now that the perfumes they had there had perhaps been sitting out for quite some time? I say this because my new bottle has some top notes (while only present for a short time) that I did not detect when I sprayed the perfume in the store. I notice now the floral notes that others were talking about in this fragrance, the coconut is also more prominent to my nose. It still smells wonderful, however I do notice that it's different than the bottle I tested in store. I still stand by my review that I don't detect too much sugary notes, and that the eggy smell I loved so much still remains. In fact, the mid notes (which are basically the rest of the scent) smell identical to the lotion and to the bottle I smelled in store. Wonderful!

I can't believe that I didn't try this earlier! But then, I'm not a big fan of gourmands and smelling like cake, I'm kind of over vanilla in general . I love Tokyomilk Tainted Love and other perfumes by them. They all seem to work well with my chemistry. This is an absolute love for me, over my more expensive niche vanillas. It's very nostalgic for me but that's not the only reason I love it. I get a ton of a very clean musk, a bit of vanilla comes in, along with the Coconut milk, with a touch of vanilla orchid. On me, I get primarily a clean, silky musk comingled with the creamy coconut milk. It's more beautiful skin scent and I don't get cake from it at all I do get a big of Warm Vanilla sugar but it's just a touch and it's so nostalgic for me as someone who was a teen and adult in the 90s. The vanilla note in this has a touch of the old school, 90s Warm Vanilla Sugar, not the new gross versions. I'm already halfway through my bottle and plan to buy another, luckily it's so affordable I never encourage blind buying so I would try to get your nose on this first. I think that Tokyomilk has sample packs. But, I did blind buy this (I rarely do that) as it was on sale on Ipsy and it's my most successful blind buy

Smells like a vegan confection...I mean, like someone using coconut milk, powdered sugar, and vanilla to make whip cream. Yum! This is the first bottle of perfume I finished in a very long time and it only took 2 and half years, lol! Honestly, my absolute favorite from the Tokyo Milk line. A simple sugary vanilla and coconut cloud. I get the tiniest hint of a sort of makeup compact type powder in the drydown (maybe that's the orchid?.) Personally, I don't really notice the musk. Wears fairly close to the skin with decent longevity 5-7 hours. (Jan 2017) Woohoo, this bad boy is officially back in my collection as of June 2018. I had the chance to shop at Margot Elena's recent warehouse sale in Denver, CO. Happy to own this one again especially getting it at a steep discount!

A stunner, and one of my most complimented in my entire collection. This was my first “niche” so to speak, even though its price point is incredibly reasonable. Found it at a boutique in Michigan and fell in love with it. As a man who rocks this I constantly get asked about what I’m wearing when i put it on. I’ve kinda limited my wear with this one to a special occasion summer scent. I’ll wear it to higher end dinners, parties, etc. However, you have to spray the living hell out of it, like 10 sprays minimum, and this isn’t even over spraying. Might sound insane but it’s not. I’m typically a 3-5 spray person but not with this stuff. I’ve personally kept this my “secret weapon” in my collection. Great juice, amazing value, great brand.

This one kickstarted my love for vanilla gourmand fragrances way back when I was entering college. It is a cakey type of scent, but also more creamy than it is sweet. Most of the "edibleness" comes from the mix of coconut and sugar cane. The musk grounds it, deepens it and keeps it away from piña colada territory. The vanilla is subtle, not what I've come to expect from gourmand vanilla in the last couple years. On my skin it is creamy and rich. It is true that it is a linear, "flat" fragrance in the sense that it doesn't develop. It doesn't have an opening, it just starts creamy and "baselike" and stays that way through the 6-8 hour wear. Overall, lovely. Still go for it when I'm looking for something comfortable and familiar.

First sprayed on my skin, I actually got a smell that is akin to a sort of powder. It was sweet and light, but not quite in a satisfying way, so I wrote it off. However, the dry down is really wholesome and cozy...it smells more like a baked dessert and not just the powdered sugar you'd sprinkle on top. I can see why people compare this to Warm Vanilla Sugar, though the musk in this isn't nearly as strong...more of an undertone than a main facet of the scent. Either way, next time I go back to the shop this was in, I absolutely plan on buying it for the dry down.

It's now 10 pm, and I've been wearing this fragrance since 8 am. I can still smell sweet coconut milk on my wrists. It starts out as a very sweet vanilla cake smell--not partial to vanilla, as it happens--which stays around for about 2 hours. But eventually it moves into a lovely milky scent. I am really gone on Tokyo Milk. I recommend that everyone try their six-bottle sample set to see if they fit your body chemistry. While I don't like all the perfumes in the set--Dead Sexy, for example--I still appreciate the artistry that goes into the blends.

Years ago I bought a fragrance oil in a specialty shop, which was supposed to smell like cake batter. I was disappointed because I realized it was too vanilla and I would have preferred a coconut cake scent(even though it was fun to wear). Well, here it is, coconut cake and macaroons! This scent is delightful, and lasts remarkably long, although oddly the sillage is not very powerful. I do want this scent as it is certainly something different for daytime, and not too childlike either.

This is one of my favorite perfumes, I used a bottle within a year and already repurchased. It's very similar to BBW warm vanilla sugar (I even layer them sometimes), except it is more light and coconutty. I don't get the floral note at all, just a light sugary base and a hint of coconut frosting. Despite being a sweet gourmand, it's light enough for year long wear. Not a beast mode fragrance, but lasts well enough for school/work.

Warm, sweet, coconut milky goodness like grandma's biko (filipino coconut rice cake with caramel topping). Love that they didn't go overboard with vanilla which for me brings its sophistication up a notch in a sea of cloying pastry concoctions. I sometimes layer LTEC with Demeter Lychee or Chloe; its simplicity makes pairing seem endless. I adore coconut so its like creating a signature out of anything!

Sweet sweet sweet! Almost borders on sickly sweet, but never crosses that line. It's initially super intense but as it dries it's not all that strong. I like that initial overpowering rush. Smells like the idea of a birthday cake. Like if you reached into a cartoon and took a birthday cake out of it I think it's taste about the way this smells. Absolutely lovely.

Beautiful little fragrance. Does not smell like cake at all, which I really like because I'm not the biggest fan of gourmand scents. Creamy and musky with a TOUCH of vanilla. It's very cozy and I like wearing it on colder days or when I get out of the shower. Also work friendly!

i love this one but idk if its worth the price point, other reviews have said it smells like other cheaper vanilla scents and i agree. this is a very sweet vanilla almost play doughy scent. idk if i will buy again but ive already used like a quarter of the bottle

I have one suggestion for vanilla lovers: layer this with Body Shop Vanilla perfume oil (preferably the original version if you can get that) and you will smell divine! My younger sister was wearing this combination and she got compliments left and right!

This is really the perfect coconut cake. It's everything I expected, except the bonus is that it's not as cloying as I thought it had the potential to be. it's soft and sweet, very yummy, and despite the coconut, the scent is not tropical. Love it.

Love this fragrance! To me, Let Them Eat Cake resembles Warm Vanilla Sugar from BBW, only a little brighter and with a touch of coconut.

This is the only perfume with coconut as a note that I haven't hated.

This isn't a coconut smell to my nose. It also isn't a baked goods smell, definitely not cake. I smell lots and lots of sugar most of all. Under that I smell floral and musk. This is more perfumey to me than edible. It's the kind of fragrance that makes people say "You smell good!!!!" rather than "Mmm, you smell like cake!". I liked wearing this perfume when I was a waitress. It made me feel put together. I like gourmand scents and that's what prompted me to sniff this in the store. I was surprised and liked what I smelled! This is a grown up sweet fragrance. It's got a more sophisticated edge than say Pink Sugar and doesn't have that warm, cozy feel, but it is pretty. It seems that this would be appreciated by those who generally go for the more commercial, perfumey kind of scents but maybe aren't that into food scents and people who like gourmand scents but aren't that into things with the typical department store perfume vibe. It's a happy medium. I have to be in the right mood to wear this, but when I am, I love it. Strange name though. It's nothing like cake!

I got a 'little luxe' bottle of Let Them Eat Cake eau de parfum from the Margot Elena website recently. This is a very simple perfume, lacking the complexity of others in the TokyoMilk line. The bottle is adorable and perfume delivers on expectations especially for the very affordable price. Top notes are definitely coconut and sugar for me, but I'd describe the coconut as coconut extract more than coconut milk, and the sugary note is more like confectioner's sugar than green, fresh sugar cane on me, personally. I only get the most subtle whispers of vanilla orchid and white musk after this dries. But those notes barely emerge on me. This perfume would be perfect for a little girl or teen who wants to have a bottle of their own. Seems like a great layering scent. Only lasts an hour or two, though.

This is not a super sweet gourmand type. It is hardly a cake fragrance even... it is an orchid & coconut (milk) fragrance with a sliver of cake. It has a creamy underbelly, not super lactonic though. The "vanilla" orchid is the main player. It kinda reads similar to 90's vanillas to me. I am a gourmand lover but lucky for me I also really love orchid + vanilla fragrances. This is a floral-gourmand, 90's style. I imagine it will work great as a hot weather "gourmand" in Spring/Summer. As it dries down the cake comes through the orchid & coconut more - but still maybe 20% of the fragrance tops. So I wouldn't go into this expecting super sweet cake - it's not that! But it is lovely.

This scent is a very beautiful everyday type scent. It does smell sweet but not like cake/gourmand- more like sugary flowers while remaining "clean" not overly floral. The coconut note for me is quite subtle and I think the vanilla orchid projects more. It's not the most interesting but I think it works. Some people say it smells like BBW Warm Vanilla Sugar but I disagree. This leans more floral and clean (other reviewers said "soapy" and I see what they mean) rather than cozy and delicious. It smells like spring to me but I'm sure you could wear it all year round if that is your vibe. Overall a solid perfume.

This is a vanilla that I can wear all year long. I get a warm, sweet and powdery vanilla with a lot of coconut. And I get just a hint of a floral nuance from the vanilla orchid. The musk comes through in the dry down, but just a little. It ties everything together and keeps it from being too sweet. To me, this doesn't smell like cake at all. It's a simple vanilla and coconut fragrance. But it's very pretty. In a few words; I would describe Let Them Eat Cake as soft, dainty, fuzzy and warm. It's quite cozy too and feels like a hug from someone you love. It's and easy reach for me as I quite enjoy this one.

A somewhat cozy (I will guess from the musk) yet VERY sugar-y vanilla scent. I wouldn't say 'cake' but sugary sweet, for sure. Slightly too sugary sweet to be worn on most occasions, personally, but I don't dislike this one! It smells good. Full disclosure, I've had this bottle for ~3 or so years - so not sure if the scent changed over time. When I put it on my wrists yesterday, the first thing I smelled was rubbing alcohol (I might not have stored it correctly?) but after two-ish minutes that completely faded, not even a hint remained. I don't remember that from when I first bought this one, though.

I got this as a blind buy because I love sweet, creamy, vanilla, cake-scented gourmands. This is not that, but it’s pleasant. I’m not getting vanilla or coconut or cake or frosting from this. It’s heady, musky, deep, seductive, subtle, warm, and a bit sweet, but I’m having a hard time putting my finger on exactly what it smells like. The best I can do is compare it to Bath & Body Works’ “Dark Kiss” (discontinued). I wouldn’t call this a pure gourmand or food smell, and I definitely wouldn’t compare it to cake, but it’s a nice, long-lasting, all-purpose everyday scent.

Like others have mentioned, the note list doesn't seem to fit for this one, and neither does the name: Let Them Eat Cake is a straightforward vanilla scent. Not a bad one, mind, but if you're looking for rich coconut cake you're going to have to take those hopes elsewhere, because this isn't it. I do like it, because sometimes a simple and wellmade realistic vanilla extract scent can be just the thing to my nose, but it's not exactly groundbreaking - the "curiosité" part of the label is another thing that doesn't fit.

This is like a light angel food cake to me. It is definitely not sugary like Pink Sugar (thankfully) but it is sweet. It's just very subtle, and a little darker (think adding an extra teaspoon of vanilla extract to the angel food cake batter). I see the comparison to L de Lolita but Let them Eat Cake doesn't smell so strongly of cinnamon. It's subtle, light, and appropriate for summer or winter, in my opinion. But never mind the "unisex" Fragrantica rating. Your husband won't want to wear this one :)

Synthetic & sugary light gourmand, a little reminiscent of that Candy Baby body mist - but slightly more refined & nuanced. Maybe it's the suggestion of name & tastefulness of the immaculately cubical, sharp edged little bottle, but I think that touch of orchid brings what could have been a generic cake frosting fragrance to the next level. That said, it's still skating between the endzones of childish and trampy for my tastes. If I was a cocktail waitress in a high end nightclub, I'd opt for this.

Sweet, but the range differs; for instance the scent isn't very much like cake, but the lotion is - the lotion smells exactly like spreading boozy cake mix on yourself. Definite booze notes. The scent is less cake batter and more sugary-coconut-vanilla. I felt like smelling sweet & foody today, so I used the lotion and scent together, which definitely improves the whole thing. The scent dries down to a sweet vanilla musk. The lotion is good quality, and particularly nice as a hand cream at night x

Starts off smelling very reminiscent of Warm Vanilla Sugar but then once it settles it turns into a vanilla milky bubble bath scent. Very similar to an expensive and luxurious vanilla scented bar soap. If you are expecting a full gourmand cake scent, you will be disappointed. However, if you like clean vanilla scents I think that this is great! I only have the mini dabber size, but when I wore it I dabbed it on my wrists and neck and I found the longevity and sillage to be pretty good! 🍰🤍🫧

This review will be quick and easy. This is basically the perfume version of Warm Vanilla Sugar from Bath and Body works. It's a floral vanilla, so if you're expecting an actual cake scent, you'll likely be disappointed. If you like sweet, floral vanilla and/or are a fan of Warm Vanilla Sugar, this will be right up your alley. I tried this in a store last year and passed on getting it. Smelled it again this year and decided to buy it. Shows you how tastes can change.

very soapy but the dry down is more sweet. at first its all musky soap, but after about 30-40 mins it dries down to a beautiful sugary coconuty "cake" that is the namesake. very mature anglophile office baddie fragrance IMO... i was not old enough to wear perfume back in the days when this was the it girl fragrance on tumblr but by jove it is 2025 and i am delighted now

If you are a fan of B&B Warm vanilla sugar and L de Lempicka you have to try this one. It ́s a really nice vanilla fragrance with a lot of warmth and sweetness to it. The lasting power could be better though. I don ́t get much of the coconut.Just a hint. But the drydown is a lovely musky vanilla with a little less sweetness than the beginning

A pretty, musky, clean vanilla. It smells like air-dried skin after soaking in a tub that’s had a carton of vanilla bubble bath poured in. There is certainly a bit of a soapy scent to it, and it's not overly sweet, but is delicate and a little creamy.

Very sweet and you can smell all the notes but I just don't think these fragrances are the best quality, they drydown to a skin scent very fast and aren't compliment getters. I love sweet gourmands but my nose tires of these TokyoMilks very quickly.

This is the perfect pure vanilla gourmand. Yeah there's whatever and whatever else in there but it is just this cakey vanilla that stands out. Yeah, it is super linear but I adore this one. HEAVY sillage. Just to die for.

This is sweet. I like it but by no means love it. I have a small bottle and will wear it from time to time when sitting with my husband watching TV and eating snacks.

i like the fragrance alone its a very cakey fragrance which i can appreciate. i layer this ontop of madagascar vanilla perfume oil by nest and it smells like heaven!!

Smells exactly like warm vanilla sugar but warm vanilla sugar is actually stronger in my opinion.

Again I don't know why I bought this originally as I don't really like gourmands, so take my review with a grain of salt. I will say what I do know about this was that it was pretty powdery and was reminiscent of something an older lady might wear. I eventually gave my bottle to a friend who likes powdery fragrances more.

This is Warm Vanilla Sugar but less gourmand/sweet and more clean and almost soapy at times. Nothing like cake at all. It's okay, I got it from Ipsy for $12 and I'm not mad about it. Seems to be on the stronger side, projects well. I haven't really been impressed by any tokyomilk perfumes I've tried.

To me, and on me, this smells more woody-floral than anything. = Nothing cake-like or gourmand at all. I get almost the same woodiness that "Dead Sexy" gives me...just a lower amount with even less vanilla a hell-ton of florals. UPDATE: Trying this again after finding a seller for the fragrance oil.

Conflicted. It reminds me a lot of Warm Vanilla Sugar from Bath and Body Works. Sugary sweet, unfortunately synthetic. I like that this comes in an oil but I dislike the dry down mixed with body heat and sweat. It starts to smell cardboard sweet, like an empty box of cookie crisps.

i really do get cake! vanilla sponge cake with heavy frosting, followed up by a creamy white musk. it's sweet and a bit cloying, but it's not too juvenile. she's cute but still has an air of maturity around her. i like it but it's not really my vibe.

Smells very much like the soap you get at a school camp. The coconut and vanilla are very synthetic, but not in a fun way. Mixing vanilla and coconut essence from the baking isle of your local supermarket may yield more inspiring results.

This was overwhelmingly sweet, I couldn't deal with it and gave it away. I love Tainted Love so was excited to try another fragrance from Margot but this wasnt it for me. if you like super sweet, you might love this.
