Song In D Minor

This is probably my favorite out of the whole line. This is a heavy type floral scent, very sweet and on the strong side - much as I love it, I can see a definite headache factor here if it's over-applied. On the other hand my migraine-prone, iffy-on-perfume-of-any-kind fiance actually likes it. What I really like about it is the warmth and fullness the amber lends to the floral notes. At first spritz it's very sweet and flowery. I find the gardenia note comes through the most. I'm a gardenia lover... if you aren't, you should probably skip this one. But there's still a depth there from the amber that separates it from the girly-sparkly-fruit-or-musk floral scents I've seen a lot of. With a little bit of time it progresses away from the dizzying flowers somewhat and the amber is more pronounced, making for a still sweet, but richer and more grounded scent. That's the stage where I really love it. And it'll be nice for the transition between summer and fall, as I think it's okay for either.

I've had this for years and just recently it has become one of my very favorites. It smells so good to me that I literally want to nibble my skin: would that it had that affect on my hubby! I'm not a gardenia fan unless it is tempered with other notes as it can be such a dominating factor, but after the first 10 minutes it becomes almost coy. The white orchid and orange flower seem to rise and fall as this matures on my skin, and the amber comes to the fore as the base note when the florals have muted. Spraying Song in D Minor on just before bed makes me very relaxed and like music, distracts my mind from my chronic pain and lulls me to sleep; often with my wrist held to my nose.

I rather love this (I have a thing for white florals I guess) but it can verge on being too heavy for me because of the musky amber element. Almost didn't buy it, had to wear some on my wrist to see if it was too strong (overly strong scents give me headaches and stomach aches, so if you have strong reactions to scents I'd recommend doing the same with this just in case) but it passed the test because it dries down to a lovely soft scent and isn't overpowering as long as I don't use a lot. It'd be absolutely perfect for me if it was a little lighter.

10 years ago I took a vacation to Amsterdam. I bought some shampoo while I was there that I brought home and treasured every last drop of while it lasted because it smelled AMAZING! I even had friends bring me back another bottle of it when they went there :) This smells exactly like that shampoo! YAY!!! It is a heavy floral, but in an intoxicating kind of way. I think it is just gorgeous. I quite literally would love to bathe in the stuff :D

I don't usually like florals, but I'm madly in love with this one. The first time I smelled it, I thought it smelled like lilacs....I'm not sure why. I love it though. Soooo much. The moment I smelled it, it instantly became one of my favorites. It was love at first sniff.... I think it's pretty unique, and the fact that it changed my mind about florals really impressed me, so I love this perfume dearly.

Heady and gorgeous! Although almost none of the notes listed are the same as the notes of Niven Morgan Gold, on me, this is very much like it. This is a powerful and bold scent and oh so sexy! I wouldn't wear this in heat, but I'd definitely wear it with some sexy heels to bring in the new year!

Song in D Minor is a little gardenia gem. This is what I wanted Cruel Gardenia by Guerlain to be. On my skin, I get big, white gardenias with a background of soap. Song in D is now my favorite indolic white floral fragrance.

This perfume is just heavenly! I love it. The gardenia is exquisite. Gotta have a FB...no doubt on this one :)

Very much a dry, dusty white floral, hinting at tropical; has only a fresh flower sweetness. it comes across a little bitter for me. I've worn it a couple of times, in warm and cold weather, but that note is just too strong for me in this frag and overpowers the others. The drydown is not too bad, though, I like it better than the first couple of hours - it gets a nice, dry powderiness to it. Lasts well, about mid-strength, stays awhile on your clothes as do most Tokyo Milks. Later note: it reminds me ALOT of Lucy B Amber and Honeysuckle. That one is much sweeter, but the notes are similar.

This is a really, really gorgeous floral! It's warm, sensual, fragrant...nothing like the average floral. This one surely packs a punch. It almost seems like there's a note of honey in here. It's very creamy. Unfortunately it didn't work too well on me, so I gave it to my friend. It became her favorite scent. The next several times I saw her I told her I LOVED her perfume, and each time she said it's the one I gave her! It was so much better on her : /

I normally don't like gardenia, because it tends to be heavy on me. However, this particular gardenia is light and sparkling, thanks in part to the freshness of the orange blossom. It doesn't give me the headaches that many big white florals do, and while I can't see myself wearing it on a regular basis, I can definitely see using it for a special evening out.

I had such high hopes for this (loved the smell of the tin candle), but I am kind of disappointed, as it comes out as very mature on me, and I can only smell gardenia. Lovely gardenia, but maybe more for a woman in her 50ies than me (nearly 37).

For me, this gardenia is a little strong (and I love gardenias - had them in my wedding bouquet). So while I can wear this sometimes, it doesn't get a lot of use by me (except in the wintertime).

Sweet, very soft, young, almost playful. This is something I snuggle up to. The only time I wear this is to bed because it makes me feel so cozy.

On me it smells like Chloe Narcisse. I like this fragrance, but it's just an every once in a while one.

Super loud and creamy gardenia. Not my thing but I can see how someone would like it. Starts to get soapy after a bit.

I found this rare gem at a Ricky's in SoHo back in October 2012. I am up to my third bottle as of this month (July 2013). This is one of the most delicious fragrances that I have ever tried. One whiff and I was hooked. The price is fairly reasonable ($30), but the only complaint I have is the size of the bottle. There isn't enough of the perfume to last (as the scent itself isn't long-lasting), so I do use it sparingly. The scent does pack a floral wallop, and I find it to be perfectly balanced. Between Margot Elena's other two scents that I have tried, French Kiss and Dead Sexy, this one, I find, is definitely much more balanced in it's sweetness. I also find it to be one of the best fragrances to wear year-round. 10/10.

As Tokyo Milk Parfumerie creations are unavailable where I live, I was a bit upset, as the scents are inexpensive and look very promising. Having put a hand on the sample, I am no longer so sure whether they were worth the wait... It is certainly a nice smell, very flowery, but with a decent dose of amber. But you really need to be a fan of white florals to like it, which is why my and Song in D Minor will part ways. The opulent gardenia did not enchant me. The name for me is a lot more attractive than the content of the bottle, unfortunately. It is a pretty strong scent, and I can see it work in cold weather on a someone who can pull off the gardenia overdose.

um I just bought this and it smelled like lychee straight up. I thought..okay I could get used to this. Then it developed this cloying orange marmalade note that makes it smell like a posh little girl’s playroom from the victorian era with tea sets, christmas cookies and a rocking horse. It kind of reminds me of a more intense version of xerjoff’s la pikovaya dama. I’m not getting gardenia and white florals, which is what I was looking forward to smelling based on all the reviews I read. It was way WAY too sweet with too much orange blossom. So disappointed. Does anyone know if this was reformulated recently?

I didn't immediately like this. When you first put this on it's reminiscent of good quality fly spray but once it softens and is less sharp it's a gutsy floral! I can smell jasmine though and that's not mentioned in the description. Not bad, it's annoying there's no trying before buying though (getting it on the internet) as cannot find any of the Tokyo Milks anywhere in Edinburgh but I guess it's kinda exciting not knowing what to expect when you do receive one of these fragrances. On the positive side this seems to stay on longer than Eden (previous purchase).

Song in D minor is very floral and I do agree that the gardenia is the stronger note. Overall it is a really nice scent it just isn't for me. I agree that it is on the mature side. It is similar to the Velvet Tuberose scent at Bath and Body Works, which is not bad but takes away from the originality of the scent for me.

Wow. Beautifully melancholy. Loud wilting gardenia with a sweet ambery base. I really like whatever is making this a bit tart. The title is fitting as this to me paints a picture of a young woman in a full length dress playing an antique piano. She presents soft and proper, but is filled with angst and lust.

This one is a bit sharper and green than I'd imagine at the onset, but matures into a honeyed white floral very quickly. Bad naming, as it alludes to 'Toccata and Fugue in D minor', the classic Bach 'vampire' piece. It's opulent and gilded, but not dark or sinister. Very beautiful.

Song in D is a pleasant enough bar soap style fragrance that features mostly orchid and more orchid. I'm not sure why gardenia is picked up so prominently by some, but it may be vaguely in the background somewhere. Not worth blind buying.

Bold gardenia! Sexpot! Classic silver screen siren! Old Hollywood! These are the things that come to miind sniffing this creation. Luscious sparkling, decadent white florals wrapped in a creamy sweet amber glaze. A true beauty.

This smells like Givenchy Amarige on me. I don't like it.
