Star Cross'd

I was startled to read the comparison between Star Cross'd and Bal D'Afrique. Thinking I'd maybe somehow overlooked the similarities, I applied one on one hand and the other on the opposite side. I conclude that they may be cousins, but where Bal D'Afrique is almost yellow-beige-creamy in aspects, Star Cross'd is definitely more sprightly -- fresher, greener, more aquatic. I actually prefer the bracing freshness of Star Cross'd. As a lover of fresh, uplifting, watery scents, and especially of aquatic florals, I consider its lack of longevity the fragrance's only downfall. I'm happy to respray as necessary, because it suits my tastes perfectly. Besides, sometimes (frequently, even) I like having a fragrance that absolutely delights me as I get ready, then settles back to a barely detectable skin scent by the time I have to be in close quarters with others.

I wasn't ready, ok? I sprayed it and I just wasn't ready. At first I was worried it was a mistake. At first spray it was like someone dissolved a bunch of lemon head candies into a vat of iced tea and maced you in the face with it. An exaggeration? Not really. But after a few minutes it settles into a dewy, lemony, herbal something that really grew on me. Wonderfully unisex. Earthy, herbal, murky, and a touch of sweetness... once it softens. In my limited experience with Tokyo Milk (I have Pretty Rotten and it is an absolute treasure, even though she's not a crowd pleaser) their products always have a different kind of bend to them. Imo.

This is one of my favourite scents of all time. It's such a deeply comforting and somehow nostalgic scent to me. Literally; it opens lightly citrusy with a beautiful sparkle of frankincense, and as it dries it smells like fresh white florals and wet grass. Figuratively; it brings me to a quiet, overgrown pond in the middle of a mossy forest where a water nymph washes her hair with starlight twinkling off the water when the raindrops land.

I usually only wear very masculine and incense-y scents. I received this as a gift and it is just delightful. Very bright and citrusy and sort of a powdery aquatic from the water lily. It is still grounded with the vetiver which makes it a surprising new favourite. Perfect for springtime and in your hair. Just darling!

Another great scent by this perfumer. Star Cross'd reminds me of when I first started wearing perfume. It was my first buy, and I have bought it ever since. Not only is it bright and tangy, but it also has an earthy quality to it. It smells like a star zipping fast through the Earth's atmosphere.

A bracing green vetiver washed in soft, watery citrus—tender, wet, and stormy, like the patter of spring rain on new leaves.

This reminds me of when I tried Grey Vetiver. A bit masculine, smelled upscale citrus/vetiver but this one is more unisex. Very citrusy with the green leaves and grassy smell. Could be the water lily softens it? I’m in the mood for this today. This is a unique herby-green citrus and I can appreciate it because I need a scent to wear in between sweeter perfume days as a palate cleanser! I honestly got this for the bottle and expected something more floral or sweet. I’ve I’m glad it surprised me!

Punchy and blinding at first, nearly overwhelming. Dries down to a pleasant herbal scent that smells just like overcast dewy mornings in early Spring and coming off the verge of Winter. A lovely scent to wear to brunch, but I wouldn't wear out to dinner.

Unisex, but traditionally masculine. Citrus-y. Wood-y. Reminiscent of Pine Sol. Cleaning a cottage in the middle of the woods. Not complex or changing, but also not boring. Good staying power.

The vetiver is strong with this one. Woody and Outdoorsy. I do very much like it. It reminds me of Oud Wood, without the Oud. I feel one with the forest. More of a Spring/Fall scent.

This is laying face first in your freshly showered boyfriends deodorized armpit on a rainy summer afternoon.

The citrus leaves are the top notes but the frankincense and vetiver are immediately behind it. The water lily is more in the background but can still be perceived. I do agree with AphroditeLeStrange that this feels like an outdoors kind of smell, but I would say outdoors in a very humid forest with lots of lush plant life. I blind bought this and while I don't regret it, I personally don't see myself reaching for it too often. Still quite pleasant and different though. A bit more masculine but still unisex. As with most Tokyomilk scents I would say it's unusual, not long lasting, but a good experience.

It's giving Irish Springs body soap in a very masculine leaning way to me, and I strangely like that....

Meh. Generic citrus fragrance. No projection, lasts about 10 minutes.

For the price point, this is wonderful. It's very green, has a sweet vetiver meets light floral mix. I don't pick up on the incense or woods as much (those are listed notes from the brand). I've tried layering this with You or Someone Like You by ELDO and I think it's a great pairing.

Feels like walking into a Wicca bookstore after getting caught in a warm heavy rain and the shop keeper just made hot lemon tea. Incense-y, citrusy, wet & earthy. Very inviting in the most unusual way.
