Amaya

Amaya : Mom. Fragrance dedicated to the mother of the Brand creator , the perfume that comes to mind and that she had. And it's incredibly good. Saffron, Rose and Oud are finally combined in a balanced way. It is not an opulent fragrance, it does not scream, it has that underlying delicacy that enchants, it envelops like a mother's embrace and that memory arises, beautiful but steeped in melancholy. I really liked it, I'll put it on my wishlist. “Mother with Child” by the French painter Leon Bazile Perrault.

The opening is loaded with saffron and black pepper that immediately transports me to the east, slammed onto a leather sofa. The oily texture of Turkish rose blends perfectly and becomes almost chewable with saffron. Over time, the rose emerges further, the saffron recedes, becomes sweeter and more romantic with Sambac jasmine, santal and dusty oud. It evolves very slowly and lingers with overwhelming whiffs in a more musky, dense and soapy finish that reminds me of fumigated bankhor. Strong and shower resistant and lovely on scarves, pashminas, textiles. If you are a fan of the rose, saffron and bankhor I highly recommend it. This takes you to the east. It doesn't take you by the hand, but it catapults you into it! Well made!

For all its notes, this is surprisingly bland. I bought several samples of ambergris-based fragrances, among which was Tola Amaya, and there's no ambergris here that I detect, nor civet, rose, oud etc. It does not remind me at all of stately women of Saudi Arabia as per LuckyScent's description. Perhaps if they used dove soap, it would, because this smells like that. It is one of the soapiest fragrances I have ever smelled. I do not like it. I see they have cut the price in half on Luckyscent, likely because no one who ever tried a sample bought a full bottle.

Ok, here's what you do: Go to your kitchen, look under the sink and grab the Comet Disinfectant. Hidden from sight, take the cleanser and proceed clandestinely towards the porch or the patio(the choice is up to you). While standing outside, make sure that all living organisms(not named bugs) are not in the vicinity. Apply Amaya to the wrist/arms while the Comet remains sheathed. Walk back into your house with Amaya hidden and Comet in hand. *I am not responsible for what may happen next.* Let's hope that you're not accosted for God sake. I totally expect for the unsuspecting person(s) to mistake your Amaya for Comet. PM me the outcome. What's life without a little bit of commotion? I hate Amaya. It's bad and that's why it's an event. It's no different than a haunted house. You know that it's scary but we want to experience it anyway. This fragrance opens as one big green oud explained in the form of Comet. The mashup of saffron and bergamot adds to the factory made aroma. The agarwood is frenzied and disguised with spicy characteristics. The green/white nature of jasmine has a pernicious effect on this one-way composition mainly because jasmine will either fortify or overwhelm and sometimes both. The main problem with Amaya is that it leans too heavy on the side of green/white. It's missing some much needed paint in the form of sandalwood, nutmeg, rose and labdanum. I don't know how much Tola is charging nowadays for their bottles. Once upon a time, their stuff was going for $285 for a 45ml. Don't you dare purchase this for that price!!!

I was gifted this from a lovely online friend on another forum-I'd never heard of the brand before. The notes given don't seem to match up with what I'm getting-there's oud and some spice, but my overwhelming impression is a masculine leathery and cigarette smokiness and that dries down to a nice rounded soapy note. I don't get any floral notes, or citrus and to me this is much more a masculine than a feminine fragrance. I'm generally more of a girly rose-violet-powder lover, so this is well outside my comfort zone, but I actually really like it. It's not full on He-man, but not far off!
