Black Orchid Eau de Toilette (2023)

I have yet to write a review on the EDP, but I can definitely already say that there is just something about it that leaves an irreplaceable impression on me. The EDP is a masterpiece of perfumery, and I can probably say that it is probably my favorite fragrance in the world. I like to describe it as my signature scent and I want to wear it, always. You could say that I’m a bit of a maximalist, I guess. However, while I don’t always follow the whole ‘what time of the year do you wear this fragrance’ thing, but wearing the EDP to a barbecue on a hot late Spring evening... it was definitely a mistake and it was the only time that I would feel like it was just too much, and it would kind of make me feel sick, just a little bit. So I kind of came to terms with the idea that, while it was my favorite, I would just be able to wear this in cooler weather. But then I was able to buy the EDT at a relatively cheap price. Like, we’re talking 40 euros cheaper than I would pay for it in my regular store. I had tried the EDT in store before, and seeing as I felt like there wasn’t that much difference from spraying it on paper. So in the sense it definitely felt kind of redundant to own both. But then reading in some of the reviews that the EDT was lighter and thus a better fit for the hotter weather, it definitely excited me, and suddenly it felt like I would need it! It would give me the possibility to wear Black Orchid, even in the hotter weather. Now, I’m writing this review after wearing it once on a Summer day – but it wasn’t a hot Summer day, more of a cooler one. Smelling it, I definitely do still recognize it as Black Orchid, smelling very similarly. But it is much lighter and a very different wearing experience. It feels much more soft and more floral forward in my opinion. Is it redundant to own both? Yes, I think so – but I have no regrets, and honestly, I knew that it wasn’t a very different fragrance, but I bought it for the different wearing experiences. Black Orchid EDT will be my alternative to the EDP in high Summer, and for the office.

I really fell in love with this perfume once I tried it finally. I was not excited for this new formula because the Black Orchid EDP was too intense for me and I didn't expect to like this one either. Don't get me wrong, I think that the EDP is a masterfully crafted perfume but I could never wear it myself, it doesn't appeal to me that way. However this new Black Orchid Eau de Toilette has my heart🖤 I believe that with taking away the truffle note and the white flower bouquet and adding that beautiful plum note was a very smart choice and made this fragrance from hardly wearable to easily wearable during the colder months. I just love how it smells like a boozy plum with spicy dark chocolate. That is basically what it smells like to me. The patchouli in the opening is more of a fresh, aromatic kind and base is chocolatey patchouli. I am not a patchouli lover in general but this composition is an exception. There is something addictive, dark and mysterious about this perfume. It's not a loud fragrance, after about 4 hours it becomes a skin scent, which I don't mind at all because that's what I prefer in my fragrances. If you like The Narciso Musc Noir line but you want something darker and even more sensual, you might like this.

A german discounter already got some bottles of this. I purchased Black Orchid EDT, thinking it would be the 2015 version since i didnt know any release date of the new one. Upon arrival, i immediately checked the batch code, and it said B33, which is produced in march 2023!!! I sadly dont have any references to the EDT 2015 or the EDP apart from smelling the EDP once in a store. This one is sweet floral with an earthiness in the background. In the drydown, the sweetness comes through a bit more, while still retaining its powdery floral smell. I love the way it smells, its very alluring and sexy, but also refined and classy at the same time. The ingredients appear to be of very high quality, but thats to be expected from Tom Ford. Men can definitely wear it too, i personally like it on me. Cant really say anything about performance yet, maybe it needs to mancerate also, therefore i wont give any statements about that. Although it seems to have very good performance, i still need to give it a full wearing to come to a conclusion on longevity, projection and sillage. All in all i am very happy with my purchase and i look forward to wearing it. Take care!

Got myself a bottle of 2023's EDT since the EDP version left me longing for something similar I could actually wear. The EDP variation made me nauseous, gave me a headache and felt all around difficult to wear, even though I loved its floral notes once they finally surfaced after hours of waiting. The EDT gives way to that blissful floralness much quicker and the initial top notes aren't nearly as pungent. I think this is a much wearable version of the iconic Black Orchid, and not nearly as polarizing. When it comes to presentation, I don't think the bottle does it justice. The matte black finish is seemingly even edgier than the original, but the smell is not what you'd expect from the direction the bottle is going towards. All in all a pretty good unisex daily scent that lasts essentially forever on clothes. Skin performance is not even close to the original, but that goes without saying, considering this is supposed to be more wearable. Still very powerful in the opening, so beware of overspraying.

Just got the 2023 version today and man it's different from what I remember in the past! The opening is dry woody earthy and it changes in the dry down to spicy rosy amber with earthy patchouli with orchid along with the plum note which giving it the sweetness and it's well blended. Basically they modernize it and made it up to date which is more appealing and they removed the potent factor of the orchid note that it used to annoy some people, And don't get me wrong it's still have a decent performance, And to be honest I prefer this one way more than the original. I slept on it till now thinking it's the same one as before, But when I saw the notes and compared it to the OG then I knew they have change it to something better without losing the identity of the OG and thankfully I was right and I'm happy with it.

I was never a big Tom Ford fan. Never liked Black Orchid but it grown on me heavily. Matter of fact Ive been obsessed with it for quite a while now. Personally this fragrance could be worn all year long and to any occasion. Intoxicating, elegant, sexy. Absolutely unisex The plum heavy opening is amazing with the various spices and chocolaty patchouli later dominating the scent. Lasts all day long and projects very well. But obviously not everyone will like it, like me back in the day. It’s an absolutely stunning and unique fragrance that’s worth the hype and i believe it’s a must try. It’s a modern classic at this point even tho it got reformulated.

It’s really hard to describe this fragrance but it’s SO nice. It’s very unique with a dark and alluring smell to it. I think it’s name descirbes it really well, it does smell like some sort of black orchid. Anyway after a while it takes away the darkness of it and turns into more of a flowery scent that is quite nice. I also love this fragrance because if what it shows to other perfumists, about how you should be more original and not use the vanilla for the 100th time, try something dark and new. Indeed a similar scent to the original EdP and Parfum. What I really like about this, which hardcore BO fans might disagree with, is the lack of the truffle note. It makes it easier to wear, and I don't get the "funky" smell that I do notice in EdP and Parfum. This is a chocolaty patchouli with the typical black orchid note. I love the pepper and clove in this, for me these spices add a cosy winter feeling to the scent. For an EdT, it's extremely long lasting (8-9 hours on me), with moderate to strong projection.

I love this one. The mix of patchouli, orchid and plum makes this a unique scent that turns heads around. . I think this one is way better than the EdP. Some say it’s more feminine. As a man I say, go for it anyway because women seem to love this one on a confident man! For a EdT it’s a beast, so don’t overspray it. 3-4 times is enough for a strong 6-7 hour projection. Not a signature scent, but perfect for special occasions. I imagine this can be good for layering with more woodsy notes, but haven’t tried.

There is just something so mysterious and hypnotic about Black Orchid that cannot be described. And they nailed it with this edt version its so airy and chill. Oh and I can safely say that this is the highest quality smelling perfume I have ever owned. Kinda regret that I bought a 50ml bottle, probably gonna go through this thing in like 4 months.

There is something that takes me back to childhood and to the dark sour cherry syrup we used to have added to our sparkling water to flavor it... I only get that feeling from this EdT, though. Everything else, just good, old Black Orchid

I got myself a 30 ml of this, and i really love it! I am a man tho, and would want to this is more women than man, or maybe its unisex. I do really love the scent though, this can be a gift to my mom i think :D

Same as edp and purfum but lighter more airy But last a good 8 hrs on skin edp/ purfum last 15hrs on skin and 24 hours on cloths only 2 may be 3 spray If fan pick it up any one of the 3 will do

Patchouli done in the most sensual way possible. Incredibly spicy and addictive. More feminine, but the right guy could absolutely pull this off. Best of the Orchids.

I’m going through a TF Black Orchid discovery set, this one is interesting... at first I got the syrupy licorice smell immediately but it was just after spraying, then it went to basically wood. I was honestly annoyed and thinking wtf but then it went from wood to floral powdery?! lol.. I never got the plum but I was really happy the wood phase stopped and it settled into a floral note at dry down! Definitely not as strong as the Parfum but that’s to be expected for an edt. Not mad at it but I like the og better so far! I’ll keep trying the set and report back on the other versions!

Compared to the EDP, this is far more earthy, damp, and steeped in decay; the very embodiment of catacombs. I won’t hold back my usual comparisons: this is “the cordyceps brain infection” and “morbid” all over again. It has a black truffle note (not listed here). If gothic atmosphere is the aim, this EDT leads the procession like a torchbearer. It is darker, colder, more indolic (its tuberose draped in shadow) while the EDP remains rich, velvety, warm. The 2023 Black Orchid Eau de Toilette is a subtler rendition for those who admire the original's allure but shy away from its intensity. Retaining the fantasy orchid accord, it discards the bombastic truffle, ylang-ylang, and gardenia punch. The EDT version is more transparent, airy, and approachable, offering an easier wear for the reserved. Remind me of the edp version, but it is weaker and more on fresh side, the sillage is weak, but it is an edt, so ok. I would choose the edp next time over edt, even if not suitable on every occasion due to loudness and specific aroma of edp but I like fragrances to be noticeable during a whole day.

I think this is the equivalent of Black Orchid room spray. One of the best parts of Black Orchid, in my opinion, is the way the scent develops from a truffle white floral, with the opening many best describe as "pungent", to the royal, powdery, sweet drydown which scratches every slutty, gothic, comforting itch imaginable. It's both comforting, soft and daring, and that is what I like about it. Eau de toilette, at least on me, fails to produce the said drydown. As such, it merely showcases the opening - which while is nice and unique, and similarly showcased in Amouage Portrayal - but is in fact *not* why Black Orchid got so popular. As such, this is a disappointment, and it never amounts to much more than a gummy patchouli-white floral-truffle extravaganza, forever stuck in this complex, heady space, and never progressing onto the powdery, sensual drydown the original provides. It's still an allright fragrance, and quite unique because Black Orchid inherently is such - but it is like s*x without climax for me. For everyone else who praises this, I am happy it pleases them, as this opens the door to more similar fragrances to be produced - but it will never replace the original BO for me.

In my review of the Black Orchid EdP, the original Black Orchid, I described it as "a Karen needing be on benzodiazepines." Well, I'm happy to say that Karen took my advice, saw a doctor, and is being medicated. However, Karen and the doctor need to play around with the dosage a bit more and get it upped. A step in the right direction, but more steps are needing to be taken. With this EdT there is a very real and very noticeable attempt to get Black Orchid to relax, to be gentler, to be breathable, to be flexible, to speak in normal volumes without feeling the need to shout at everything. In a lot of ways, the doctor has succeeded in helping Karen calm down, and allow room for the more pleasant nuances of her personality to be present. But she's still Karen, and she is still quite challenging. There are still massive brick-like doses of ylang-ylang, patchouli, chocolate, and tuberose - though this time only a sprinkling of truffle - but instead of focusing so much on the cloyingly sweet ylang-ylang, chocolate, and patchouli, the tuberose is given the spotlight. The dry down is by far the best part of this fragrance since it lets its gentler, quieter florals take a starring role. It is strange to call tuberose gentle and quiet, as it is almost always anything but, though in the context of the rest of Black Orchid's accords that's how it comes across - a testament to just how loud and brash the rest of it was in the original EdP. Technically speaking, it's still a force of nature. Superbly executed and exceptional performance, particularly for an EdT. Which means, like the original EdP, one should be modest and careful with how much one applies and when/where it is worn. At the end of the day, the Parfum is still the best of the three, where Karen's dosage of benzodiazepines is finally dialed-in correctly and she's even taken to getting some counseling. The EdT is Karen on a good day, when her company is somewhat tolerable and you can get a glimpse of the personable human being behind the shrill and brash harridan. I have respect and appreciation, but I would still prefer to keep my distance.

the top notes in this are so pickly and stank to my nose. idk if it’s the patchouli or whatever tf it is but it’s definitely not for me! after about 45 minutes it’s way more tolerable.

@toosimilar What exactly is your point? Are you expecting newly invented smells that never existed before? Might I introduce you to molecule scents? Those are weird, different, and new. And they’re terrible, but people who complain about older/vintage perfumes seem to enjoy the cleaning chemical and pencil shaving note blends of the new synthetics that have taken over the past several years. At least they don’t smell like anything done before... 🤷♀️ Also this reformulation was likely a result of the recent changes in EU laws that banned many perfume ingredients. It has been in the news in the States for like 2-3 years. Most scents are being reformulated to make them safer and more environmentally friendly. There was no creative decision by the people in charge to rerelease this EDT because they couldn’t come up with anything better, or whatever you’re insinuating. As for the actual review-I can’t compare to the old EDT but I do like the note description/notes of the old formula better, in theory. This is a bit lighter, a bit more simple, a bit less sweet. The EDP is femme leaning on me but this is slightly more unisex. Seems like it would be better in summer. Sniffing skin directly leads me to believe the sunshine would do amazing things to it, it almost smells a bit more tropical than the EDP. It’s winter here now so please take that with a grain of salt, i may be dreaming of sunshine. It’s fresher, less earthy. Less gourmand. But still very much the same scent, basically, as the EDP. If you like the EDP you will probably like this. I blind bought because it was on sale for dirt cheap and I love the EDP. I didn’t realize this was reformulated, but considering I paid $50 for a 3.4oz bottle on fragrancenet, I’m still very happy. It performs very well and is a nice daytime grab when I’m in the Black Orchid mood.

Today I tested this side by side comparing it with the edp. To be very honest, I am familiar with the edp and this does NOT smell as different, it clearly has the same dna, which is very distinguishable and unique. First thing I noticed is that this is missing the honey note, which I clearly smell in the edp (to me, edp is a honeyed spicy floral first and foremost, not heavy on the patchouli) so it smells less sweet, but just a bit, it’s still on the sweeter side and in my read both the edp and the edt are feminine. I don’t really detect a strong patchouli in neither, but perhaps it’s because both perfumes are well blended. This one is just fresher, less complicated and easier to wear, as for the edp you need to dress up to wear it. This is more chill and easier to digest, but definitely not better by any means. I suppose it’s more suited for people who love the edp yet find it too much to wear daily.

hi @wondervalley666 I expect new fragrances to be new fragrances, and not EDT, Intense, Parfum, L'eau, Floral version of an existing one Especially when they have a different pyramid If they resemble the original one - then it's even less point in that - in producing a softer/lighter frag in 20 years using the name of the old best seller TF is an American brand, but Idk where it's produced, yet it's a stretched justification because IFRA ban is older than just 2-3 years and I guess it is only for EU manufactures (ofc, they're banning more & more ingredients) And if smth is banned - they shouldn't mislead people and keep on producing the fragrance under the same name, removing even 1 component may fully destroy the composition (even reduced % of the specific ingredient)

I wasn't a fan of Black Orchid to begin with, but I did test the EDT to see if it can change my mind. I'm not liking the Initial spray-on at all. The Dry-Down while better is just ok and not that great or memorable, it's just very muted and flat. I think Black Orchid like many of TF's popular fragrances are made for specific individuals and tastes rather than a focus on mass-appeal. As a side note I asked the Tom Ford perfume rep about the notes specifically chocolate, and she was adamant that chocolate is not used in any of the Black Orchid concentrations but that there is vanilla. Although I applaud TF for being unique and thinking outside of the box, Black Orchid is not a style of perfumery I can see myself wearing.

Tom Ford Black Orchid Eau De Toilette (2023) The opening is very dark and alluring; it’s really weird. I guess the only way i could describe it is chocolatey and florally, with plum in it. After about an hour it dries down to a much more fresh, floral type of scent, making it usable in summer. The one downside to it is the performance, which is about 6-7 hours, but it’s purely down the the concentration (EDT). It is quite expensive (around £100) but it is definately worth the price tag Smell: 10/10 Performance: 6/10 Bottle, atomiser, cap: 8/10 Price point: 7/10 Overall Rating: 8/10 - amazing smell but performance drags this down

Oh. I love Voile de Fleur when the weather warms up, and while checking for cheap-ish backups of that, I found a REASONABLE 100ml EDT. I always wanted BO EDT - I was under the impression it was OOP- so the version I just bought must be this. Well, I have no prior EDT experience, so I won't know what I'm missing. But had I known it was a reform with the above notes, I would have reconsidered. :( Will update my review on the scent itself. I am looking forward to wearing a toilette version that is lighter than the EDP. My Voile de Fleurs are too precious to waste, so I want this one to play with in a casual fun way.

I think this might actually be better than the OG. I used to really like the edp but it is quite ‘busy’ which makes it harder to reach for. This retains the same olfactory direction but rounds out the sharp edges and makes it a fragrance to wear rather than to just sniff and enjoy from a distance. Edit: I changed my mind. While I enjoyed how it’s a more wearable BO, the edt starts to basically fall apart as it dries down. The edp maintains its core structure as it dries down.

I just tested this stuff at a fragrance store, and this smells HEAVENLY, it smells so good I'm lost for words. It’s very very well blended, I couldn’t even make up one note. If I had to describe the scent profile is that, it’s soft, fruity, velvety, Dark and very elegant. This is a sweet fragrance but never cloying, the sweetness in here is intoxicating. Overall it’s a good fruity, dark and seductive scent with a certain allure to it. 10/10 I would DEFINITELY buy it.

better than the original imo, not as long lasting but the scent matters the most, i dont know what is more proeminent because all of the black orchids are simply decongestants, its all a mess of different notes but somehow it works you dont know what you smell but you like it if that makes sense, i know some people think it smells pungent,like an old couch but this edt version is something definitely lighter the longevity is good, 6-7 hours with moderate projection

The entire range, from EDT to the parfum, is so recognisable. The DNA is strong and so is the scent. I honestly can't handle anything except the EDT because it's so potent to my nose. I also love that the florals get a bit more exposure. It's a touch feminine but as a guy I'm not afraid to wear this. Addictive but has a calming energy. AND the matte black bottle is the best looking in my opinion.

tom ford's patchouli never disappoints. this is more chocolatey than the edp and it dries into a more floral version of it, im in love. i wish i could make my signature but i cant stand it in the heat projection: 9/10 longevity: 8/10 scent: 10000/10

It seems these years we're all turning back to the former years, creations, ideas and so on Even perfumery is trying to remake the old hits instead of creating new ones...

This new formuation is much better, softer and more feminine than the first formulation. It last long too, i can still smell this on my shirt i wear 2 days ago.

Can someone do a comparison between the old EDT and this new formulation please ? (Longevity, sillage, notes). I really loved the original formulation.

Strongest EDT I’ve ever smelled, Jesus. TF always good with patchouli. I like this better than the EDP tbh. Top 3 TF for me.

Fresher than edp. Less addictive, more generic, pleasant, safer option. I like edp more.

Notes make me hopeful that it will be similar to classic Poison

Anyone know how this compares to the original EDT?
