Black Orchid Eau de Toilette

After a long drive to Neiman Marcus for Creed-related purposes, I nearly walked right past this beauty, sitting in a sad, dark, lonely corner. I'm glad I caught it out of the corner of my eye and ran over, "Ohh! The Eau de Toilette!" I became school-girl giddy at the opportunity to try this one, but sadly I had dozens of Creeds all up and down my forearms.. So, I only got to smell it on the card. First, so you know where my perspective is coming from - Black Orchid EDP is probably my absolute favorite. Though, admittedly, it's a once in a while, special occasion kind of fragrance. (It's more of a secret weapon!) Black Orchid gives you that just-fallen-hard-in-love stomach ache that sends your head swirling in a way you feel like you can't control. But wait a sec, I'm here to comment on the Eau de Toilette! The EDT smells, to me, almost exactly like the Parfum, just without that swirly, weak-in-the-knees witchcraft element. Oh, it's still plenty sly, seductive, and likewise gives you that tingly sensation after smelling it, but overall it's much more concise, approachable, and makes less of a fuss about itself. If you like Black Orchid, but don't feel up to making the statement it requires, EDT would be the perfect fit. It's a bit softer, with a little less smoke and a little more fruit, and altogether less polarizing. It's also more of a feminine take on Black Orchid, whereas the EDP seems rather unisex to me. All in all, if you dig the EDP, you'll almost certainly dig the EDT. They're both otherworldly lovely and unique.

I own this and the EDP, and quite honestly the only reason I purchased the EDT was because I got a good deal. I don’t believe it’s necessary to own both, BUT I have to say I prefer the EDT and do find it has a slightly different character than the EDP. Like the EDP, it’s is bold, complex, and dense with monster performance. However, I find it brighter and lighter than the EDP, likely due to the inclusion of bergamot and ylang-lang. The ylang-ylang stays prominent from the opening through the dry down. I find the fruity accord akin to dried fruits as opposed to fresh ones. The base notes have a similar impact as the EDP, just less concentrated. That said, it’s still a beast- just not as commandeering as the EDP. I also find it leans a bit more feminine, but still a solid unisex. All in all, this is a fresher/brighter take on the EDP that’s slightly easier to wear. Typically, I’ll wear it during the evening on a date or to a bar when I want to smell distinct and bold. Update: A man told me that he never usually compliments one’s perfume, but he said that BO smelled amazing on me and asked me for the name of the fragrance. This scent is divisive (although less than the EDP I believe) but I really think it’s a masterpiece of perfumery.

Got to sample this the other day, agreed it smells just like the parfum except lighter. So it does live up to the EDT label; I find here with the EDT that differentiates it from the EDP is that w/ the EDT first spray u don't get that super bitter opening like the EDP. The EDT initial spray is the dry down of the EDP. IMO I feel a lil more florals stand out here but it pretty much is the same. I did a side by side test of them both (owning the EDP) I did one spray on each arm. Must say they smelled pretty identical only the EDP was a lot more intense. Found the EDT kinda stuck more to the skin quickly where the EDP still stayed trucking strong. I'd say if you're torn b/t the two just go by whether or not you like your scents to be stronger or lighter. There's no real difference to me.. I enjoy them both && if I didn't already have the EDP I'd maybe get the EDT only for liking the all matte black bottle better lol, but for the $$ spent I want my stuff to last so with the EDP I stick. :)

Black Orchid EDT does just what it should: It is a somehow lighter version of Black Orchid that smells still very much like the original. In my opinion it’s easily wearable for day- or nighttime, more so than the EDP. Just don’t overspray, as it’s not a weak or soft scent. I feel like all the listed notes are clearly noticeable in this fragrance. The characteristic black truffle note of Black Orchid is very strong, just like in the EDP. With patchouli and vanilla it also has a similar chocolatey feel to it. It’s smokey, earthy, mysterious and dark, but compared to the EDP, the tropical florals and especially the fruity notes are stronger. I even get a hint of watery freshness from the lotus. Overall, it feels a little less heady, fresher and less gourmand-leaning in the drydown. It’s a well blended, complex and beautiful perfume. I’m very happy to own a bottle of this and like it more than the original because of its wearability and versatility.

I once said, somewhat jokingly, that whenever I’m wearing this, I feel like a thirty year old lesbian with a baking addiction and a small backyard garden. I’m a cishet man in his twenties, so understandably this is quite unusual, but I stand by what I said. It’s soft, yearn-y, and somewhat sweet- probably due to the lasting impression vanilla had on me. At first I thought it was too femme-leaning for me, but then I said “fuck it” and wore it a couple times. I ended up falling in love with it. It makes me feel more confident, in a soft, lowkey sense. Definitely not for a traditional “manly man”, and even if you’re not that, it takes a bit of daring. A little dark, a little sweeter and softer on the nose than the EDP, and hey- the bottle looks amazing.

I actually like this better then the EDP. Its lighter, easier to wear and not as intrusive. As much as I like the original, the tuber note of the EDP always annoyed me a bit. Here it's toned way way down, thus making the EDT much more palatable. If the original were a shiny glossy veneer, this is a nice soft matte (if that makes any sense). Its still the smokey, musky, forbidden fruit temptation that makes BO such a showstopper. Despite the EDT strength, do not be fooled, this is still potent, long lasting and projects as well as the original. All my issues with the original have been improved. Bravo Mr. Ford, Bravo!

The most daring scent I own. Amazing, captivating, alluring. Dark and sensual, this juice is from the darkest berry. Its dark chocolate, dark floral, a hint of sharp currant, ylang ylang, and truffle. Evenings, and cool weather only I imagine. I get whiffs of vanilla upon dry down only on occasion. Longevity and sillage are impressive on my skin (which devours fragrances). I am a lifelong collector of fragrances and this stands out. As a man, I wear it with confidence and my wife can't get enough of it on me. Not for the faint of heart or for those insecure of being noticed.

Crazy strong, how is this an edt? Comes across as an edp or concentree, one spray and that was well enough. I get that awesome, sophisticated, deep earthy aroma of truffle. Lasts forever, radiates dang far and the drydown is more masculine. If you spray more than once and wear in tight quarters or work space then I wouldn't blame others for asking you to take the day off. This is definitely for cooler weather and more formal events, certainly not for going to a pub and watching a match.

Love this! A beautiful woody, earthy, floral fragrance. Masculine on a man and feminine on a woman. As a man, this fragrance is powerful and has an elegant and sophisticated twist that makes it perfect for special occasions. Quite heavy on the floral BUT its a beautiful floral that isnt feminine. A master of perfume and unfortunately the new batch dosent share the same spark this one dose. Longevity - 7/10 (7-10hrs) projection - 8/10 (Strong) smell - 8/10

Oh, wow! The first thing I noticed was a "smoky" smell, which I assume is the incense. The woods and florals came next, with just a little hint of bergamot. This is the first time a fragrance has given me that "Oh wow" reaction. I love it so much, I want to just wrap myself up in it. It makes me feel like I can take on the world and win. It's powerful, full, and bold. I've never tried the EdP version, but now I absolutely want it.

Black orchid EDT is a love. Even though still polarizing, it beats the EDP. It skips the opening of the EDP that takes too long to settle in and gets straight to the best part. The smoother, sweeter part except more fruitier. I also still get chocolate and a dash of truffle through out the fragrance which keeps the uniqueness. Still very strong, you wouldn’t even know it’s an EDT. Does not need to be over sprayed.

Out of this world. I can't explain it! I feel like a sexy, confident and mysterious when I wear it. It is a going out or 'I'm really feelin' myself' perfume. I won't go over notes, as countless people have done that, but I will say this perfume has power. A little bit goes a long way and it really packs a punch. And it smells just as deliciously strong and dark at the end of the day as it does when you spray it.

When i first smelled it at the store i was shocked, immediately bought it. When i came home and tried it on my skin, i got hit with a very strong woody scent (which i don't enjoy too much on myself) but once it dried down.. you get this absolutely beautiful floral and sweetish scent. It reminds me of a business person in a suit. (Person, because i feel like ANYONE can pull this scent off)

Just picked this up today(male).I really like it. It is very similar to the EDP version but honestly this one is easier to wear in a crowd. Not as loud and in your face. It seems some of the notes were toned down, but it's still a heavy incensey scent. Romantic in nature. Not sure if this will be okay for the office or not. The longevity seems to be pretty good even as an EDT.

While BO edp reminds me of a majestic and powerful but relaxed male black panther (and edp suits better male chemistry i.m.h.o.) this BO edt makes me think of a young and wild female of the same species, very aware of everything around and with every muscle contracted, ready for the sprint on the prey...poor thing standing no chance ;) I love it! in both forms.

This is everything that I love about the EDP, but so much easier to wear. The drydown is lovely and complex - and yes - a little still goes a very long way. The truffle note in the EDP was just "too much" for me and didn't soften, but it does in the EDT. Still not an everyday wear, but lovely occasionally when I need something different.

It's a shame they don't label this a unisex scent I'm a man and women constantly compliment me on this fragrance when i wear it which is usually to dinner or on a cold night stroll outside or a formal gathering it oozes class sophistication and sexiness and most of all an alluring mystery women just seem to want to come solve ;)

So incredibly sensual, down to earth and may I say, perfect. This may be my new favorite. An earthy, fruity sensation that is genderless in it’s execution. I can picture myself wearing this to any occasion. It simply feels and smells like a representation on myself. Please get your hands on this masterpiece of a scent.

It has a chocolate quality without chocolate being one of the notes. Dark, alluring on a guy and more approachable but still mysterious on a woman I’d say. Such a privilege to be able to experience black orchid. It’s something I’ve always wanted ever since seeing celebrities wear it in the GQ essentials videos.

Why on gods green earth would Tom discontinue this?? If true..😠 I looove this far over the EDP this got right to the heart of BO from the start..even down to the matte black bottle is all total love, why in hell would they get rid of this!! Now I have to scrounge up money for a back up bottle..🙄

As a guy i use this in the summer! This is much softer than the edp!! I like the edp more.. its more creamy and sweet.. this is a little more floral! It is def not beast mode on my skin.. i get about 1.5 hour moderat projection and 6 hours longevity.. I get much more complements with the edp!

OMG! Ladies LOVE this juices on me!High quality stuff and I love it soooo much! I wear this gem only on special occasions..it works perfect with my skin chemistry!! I can't speak highly enough for this fragrance! Just get it guys..

A couple weeks ago when I've tried and I love it more than the edp. Although it's edt flanker it has enormous longevity. What's your opinions? Is it be suitable for men?

aura bottle solid 8.5 to a 9/10

I just recently purchased the whole Black Orchid line up. EDT, EDP and Parfum. I must confess it took a bit of time for me to actually like this scent. The EDT is definitely on the brighter and livelier end of this line. Opens up with a super fresh citrusy note but almost immediately dies down into a powdery incense note after about 5 - 15 minutes. Don't know why the truffle note is rated so high, I barely pick up an earthy note but it's not prevalent. Mostly notes of powdery sweet flowers, incense and slight citrus throughout the span of the dry down. Would not recommend this for warmer weathers because it will 100% choke people out. The scent is beautiful, but not for the untrained nose. Some bystanders will find this scent quite cloying and obnoxious to say the least. Longevity (8/10): This babies got quite the lasting power for being EDT. I got about 6-8 hours with 2 sprays on my shirt. Projection (9/10): You WILL be noticed, this scent is STRONG. Wouldn't recommend over spraying. And definitely advise against using this scent if you're planning on going to a places that are clustered. IE: Parties, movies, concerts etc. Uniqueness (10/10): Guaranteed almost NO ONE will smell like you. With all the mass appealing scents being marketed to the average citizen, you WILL likely smell extremely unique. Price (6/10): Not sure I'd pay retail for what's essentially a tough fragrance to wear. I'm not bashing Black Orchid, but it's ultimately not an easy going scent, and isn't made for every one. I'd suggest sampling before doubling down on a full bottle. Final thoughts: If you're a long time frag collector looking for something new, this is hands down a fragrance I'd recommend. If you're a beginner or the average joe participating in the world of scents and discovering new interests outside of your comfort zone, give this a shot, but keep your expectations low. It might not turn out the way you think it'd be, and don't be blinded by the hype surrounding this scent line up.

My experience with Black Orchid Eau de Toilette echoes previous reviews: this EDT version is very close to the original EDP. When compared side by side on my skin, the major difference lies in the opening: the EDT lacks the bitter chocolate, and proceeds almost directly to the creamy vanilla-white floral-melon-patchouli dry down of the EDP, and it feels just slightly more diffuse. After about an hour, there were brief moments when the EDT feels a little bit more woody and spicy than the EDP. But overall, I don't think I'll be able to tell them apart if sniffing them separately. The technical performances of the EDT are also as excellent as the EDP, with a longevity of almost 12 hours and a heavy to moderate sillage. Since the interplay of bitterness and sweetness in the opening of the original EDP is my favourite part, and the two versions are almost identical, I find this latest EDT redundant, albeit still a solid fragrance in itself. If you love the dry down of the orignal EDP and don't care much for the opening, the EDT being less expensive, could be an interesting option.

I ordered this on Sephora's website and though I enjoyed it, I will be returning in favor of the original Black Orchid. It opens quite like the original with the earthy, heavy smell of truffle and deep, dark fruits and soon morphs into something similar to the creamy stage except more cloying and perfumey. It just doesn't feel as well blended and was missing the freshness of the original. I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. I actually went to the store to spray the original on one side and this on the other to compare and it reminded me how much I love the original.

Well unlike other contributors I thought this smelled very different to the EDP on first spray. It is lighter, but also zestier, it seems to positively fizz out of the bottle. I detected some quite sharp, tangy notes which quickly dried down into a light, floral, pleasant fragrance. It is a more youthful BO, but as one of the things I love about BO is its complex sophistication, I won't be going for the EDT. However, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a light floral daytime fragrance with a bit more about it. Very, very nice, but not for me.

Having noticed a friend wear this all the time I constantly said how nice he smelt and he mentioned the ladies constantly complimented him on it. So I took the plunge and purchased a bottle, it is very unique and a bit feminine but a very class smell. It lasts all day with only a few sprays needed. Now personally I’ve only ever had one compliment and a few dislikes from this. Not so popular with some guys but girls do seem to like it, perhaps as it’s more feminine than mascular. 8/10

This just doesn't work on my body chemistry unfortunately. It smells very woody and patchouli heavy, I find it overbearing directly sprayed on my skin or clothes. I had my husband test it and it smelled "how it should" on him: fruity, floral and sweet. Edit to add: I tried stepping into the spray and I much prefer it!! Cocoa, patchouli, fruity deliciousness. Like a dessert!

I tried the EDP edition about a month ago and I loved it! Today I bought by mistake the EDT. It is almost the same perfume, but the EDT does not last on my skin and the undertones are a bit lighter than the EDP. I will definitely use it, but I will buy the EDP as soon as I empty the EDT. To my skin and nose, the EDP is surely much better.

I absolutely loathe the EDP, tolerate Voile de Fleur and absolutely love this. I gets all the best bits from Black Orchid EDP, without the offensive (imo) part that annoys me. This one is very creamy, inviting and well put together. Alas, it doesn't last long on my skin and stays very close to it .

Smells nice floral, earthy-woody scent, great performance for a edt, but for me it's a bit much leans feminine. ( it's definitely not a light fragrance.)

the scent shorten the meaning of prestige

The truffle here is not supposed to be the chocolate truffle that usually it's associated to, but that was the first loud impact on me: a scent of chocolate, spiciness, and a medicinal patchouli. And a immediate association to what a men's fragrance usually smells like, a men's scent. I totally get it when they say this is a unisex fragrance or at least that a man call pull off. Strong, dark, not open, very out of the ordinary for sure....The good thing is that despite being strong is not heady. I wanted to love it and buy it, but unfortunately it didnt convinced me, i preferred Velvet Orchid, more creamy and feminine, not so "weirdo", and Cafe Rose is really nice as well....

Cozy warmth! It was raining today, and I wore this. The notes reflected the mood of the weather. It smells like tobacco(not listed), incense(very mild), sweetness of vetiver, mild bitter chocolates, patchouli and lots of spices. I can't detect any floral or fruits. Also, if you've been burning yankee candles(those fall editions) all day, you would instantly recognise what I'm saying. I like my home smelling this way in fall-winter because it's gorgeous but not as a perfume on myself.

Este es sin duda el aroma más desagradable que he encontrado en un perfume. La primera impresión que me dio fue de sorpresa, nunca habia olido algo así pero no me pareció malo, tras unos pocos segundos, al volver a olerlo cada vez se tornaba a un olor mas malo. No puedo describir las notas, es tan fuerte para mi que me es imposible. Solo podría describirlo de una forma, y es que, creo que huele a cadaver, a algo que se esta pudriendo. Es totalmente insoportable para mi. Olerlo me arruinó el dia completo, escribo este comentario habiendo pasado horas y aún con ganas de vomitar. Con una sola sprayada bastó para dejar el olor pegado en mi brazo, y lo peor de todo, en mi nariz. Después de lavarlo 3 veces, por que no soporto el aroma, sigue el olor casi intacto en la piel. Para quien le guste esta cosa, esta de suerte, la estela y la duración son practicamente permanentes.

I'm probably one of the only male's here, I was looking for some masculine TF fragrances that were long discontinued on eBay and I remembered I had this, but unfortunately its empty, but I can still smell if from the cap, I'm glad I bought this one even though the sale assistant didn't mention that it's more for the ladies, but I liked this more. I'm surprised I even dared to wear it because to me they all smell a tiny bit more feminine leaning, but there is nothing more masculine than a suit so that and this together worked, I originally thought that this was the original but actually this came out after the first 2 versions "voile de fleur" and the edp , but I think this was just right, and seeing the empty bottles of this SELL OUT on eBay let alone the half full or full ones (if any, because there are barely any) and now in 2022 you can't find this nowhere, I whish I had left 10ml in the bottle. As far as the actual fragrance it's that classic Black Orchid smell "Black Orchid" accord, (now using actual Orchid in fragrances doesn't really exist but I guess a Orchid note could, but you would have to grow a scented Orchid not vanilla (which is actually technically a type of Orchid, but get vanilla out of your mind because its not in here) anyway you would have to find a species of scneted orchid, grow hundreds of these - pick the petals and distill them, its somehow been done with other rare flowers but this is normally artisnal perfumery and is expensive and a very very very complicated process, for example a Blue Lotus distilliaton you can research this by Ensar Oud, but my point you'd never find a distillation of a scented Orchid in a fragrance) any (for the most part) a real Orchid note doesn't exist and is really a mixture of different molecules/notes that smell slightly sharp, then slightly warm, a lot of "mushroominess" and "marshmallowiness", the mushroom like notes are the truffle and the marshmellow is the actual orchid notes alongside some earthiness and a tiny bit more dark florals (like smelling a rose or any other heavy dark flower, but without the distinctive rose smell or distinctive heavy floral flower smell whichever pops up in your mind, just the vegetal linear smell of most heavy dark flowers, when you put your nose straight to the petals), any sharpness is that small amount of patchouli and vetiver (the vetiver might make up part of that earthiness as some vetiver's aren't sharp, grassy and green, some are dried, dark, smokey and hay smelling and this is probably used here), the patchouli and vetiver ever so slighlty cuts through at the beginning but is somehow mixed with the rest of the notes and continues right through, and yes there are fuity notes but these are mixed and combined into the "Orchid" part of the fragrance (probably plum, or pear, some type of dark stone fruit, not the overly appealing - like Bond No.9 Andy Warhol or Plum Japonais, this definitely not a plum fragramce so get that out of your mind there are just small nuances of something like a purple or Victoria plum in the backbone of this fragrance which adds density). It smells like all of that (the classic, Black Orchid smell, but a little smoothe, sweeter, a tiny tiny bit more subdued and easier to wear). But thinking back yes this can be stifling, but that's why you go light on the sprayer and this is probably best when something else is going on on in the atmosphere, like: fireworks - so Bonfire night in London, Indepdence day 4 July during the evening or at night in the US, New years eve or generally when it's raining or especially after when there is that petrifor - smell of wet earth in the air after its finished raining, or in the Autumn when the leaves have turned orange/yellow and fallen, or in the winter, apart from that I think this was good and I'm glad to even have an empty bottle I was thinking of selling it but I think I'll keep it. Its also definitely Discontinued.

This reminds me back to my childhood. My old house, we had this Ylang Ylang tree in the front yard and the Night blooming jasmine in the back so our whole house never stopped smelling like death, day and night for at least ten years. At night I was afraid to come out of the house because I was scared I found a ghost behind that smell. Then my parents had this discussion that their kids were still very young they didn't prepare to have this sudden unexpected nocturnal death syndrome (wikipedia) yet so they went for renovating the whole house and the garden, now we have concrete. To me, this Eau de Toilette opens so so so overpowerly loud I feel like I have this aura of death cloud surrounds myself wherever I go and is ready to stab anybody who'd come for me, yes I feel safe, very protective of myself but at the same time I feel convinced to jump off the bridge. So I have my chin up high and walk slowly imagining that this must be how the high society people smell like. Half an hour later I take 2 advils and realize that I don't belong in the high society. Four hours later the advils start their jobs making the scent dry down to this chocolaty smell. It smells so so good I want to eat my arms. Unfortunately nobody can smell it since it's the skin scent so I have to poke my throat close to their noses and ask them to enjoy so that it's worth it. Oh, I forgot to mention the incense in it, it is an okay combination since I live in a Buddhist country I am not really excited. Looking back, we had every ingredients to make this perfume that's all I can detect. Overall, I would describe this Black Orchid as a yearning scent and heart agitated (I don't know the English word) but like someone who's yearning for lust and love and their love ones to come back and pain. I even imagine the movie 'Perfume: The Story of a Murderer' is the perfect fit to describe it. There you have a perfume and a murderer, best inscription for this perfume. I'm writing this with a bottle of Tom Ford White Patchouli on my side because It just arrived (I blind buy the 50ml because I couldn't find a sample in my country) and also just to prove to myself that I have money. It opens just like BO Eau de Toilette OH MY GAWDDDDDDDD. I am so angry but smiling : )) I wish you could see my face right now. I still have hope for Mr. Ford, I wish he smells good. I'll start saving up money for his Tobacco Vanille, it would take me probably 2 years, at least.

I can see why there is a place for this in the fragrance market, but I actually felt some disappointment when trying this out. I have all of the iterations of Black Orchid - including Voile de Fleur EDT - and so had great expectations with an EDT version of the original. I bought my bottle and brought it home before trying it out. It may make no difference, but I like to 'rest' my fragrances overnight before wearing them. I just find that some fragrances perform differently when the liquid has been agitated through transport. Anyhoo... my weird habits to one side, when I tested Black Orchid EDT I was soon yearning for my EDP version. The initial richness becomes muted within 20 minutes to a polite, fresher version of the original Black Orchid. An hour in, to my nose at least, I can hardly smell anything when I press my nose to my wrist except a mild sweetness. Don't get me wrong, the rest of the fragrance is still there, it's just that I have to wave my wrist up and down gently a short distance from my nose to smell it. Another hour passes and it seems that the (not overly) sweet accord is still present when I move around, but now it's more vanilla with minimal spice. After another two hours and it has become a skin scent on me, though I will admit that every now and then I do get reminded that I am wearing the fragrance. I also get the impression that those within close proximity to me can also smell something, but to me it smells like one of those Tom Ford Black Orchid-like fragrances that seem to be available online everywhere. The bottle to my eye is beautiful in its matt black with black [TF] neck collar, and reversed gold writing on black plate. It genuinely looks as though it belongs in the range next to my other bottles - especially next to my Velvet Orchid Lumière. I find it a shame that whilst I can't deny the quality in Black Orchid EDT, I just feel Black Orchid has become so recognisable, that wearing a polite, tamer (some may say weaker - others more wearable) version of it is only going to make some people think you paid less than £20 for an imitation of the original on eBay, rather than splashing out for the real thing.

Black Orchid Eau De Toilette, like its intense brother, the original EDP, is a nocturnal journey into the darkest part of mother nature. The aromas of flowers, herbs, woods and mushrooms combine with the darkness of the night and create a balsamic, earthy, spicy and aromatic elixir. The Eau De Toilette version takes the recipe from the masterpiece, the first in the triad of 'Orchids' by Tom Ford and molds it under a sweeter, sweeter and smoother filter. Where in the EDP there are edges and lacquered surfaces, here there are rounded corners and the comfort of opaque, soft. This perfume opens with notes of truffles, which always remind me of cooking gas, sweetened by ylang-ylang, sweet and slightly alcoholic, and by a sour black currant. Bergamot gives a quick breeze of freshness. The fruity notes find the perfect base in the ylang-ylang to which they bind to bring sweet and fruity notes, creating thickness. The notes of black orchid and tuberose bring to the composition waxy and vanilla scents. These notes break up the top notes of truffles and the base notes, which arrive shortly afterwards of incense and patchouli. Sandalwood is creamy. Vanilla, in the base notes, is for me the filter that transforms the whole composition into a lighter and vanilla version of the original. I know that many do not like this composition, as well as the original, but it is a masterpiece in originality and courage by Tom Ford.

Received this EDT today. I tried original Black Orchid a few times...and..I just could not wear it. Then I tried Velvet Orchid...lighter than Black Orchid original..but..had a "zingy" note in it that put me off....???....Now, today after 2 sprays of the EDT version...I waited....then WOW....this WORKS on me !!! It is somehow..for lack of better words.."fresher" and the "rough edges" are gone compared to the original version (edp). To my nose the bergamot is more in this one..and even the lotus-y vibe is more...but it is still...Black Orchid. Great Stuff !! I am late to the party...lol...but glad I waited to own the EDT version ....(and..I get no HEADACHE from this EDT...so far.The original was instant migraine on me) Only my second bottle of Tom Ford...this and Tuscan Leather...(swapped out Noir de Noir)..did not like that one too much.

I was very curious about this one, reading online it was a unisex strong fragrance. I blind-bought it for a very affordable price but I must say I found this one very feminine. Strong opening, almost sour to my nose (I don't know if it's the truffle or what), then huge flowery heart notes that (very) slowly transform into a sweeter skin scent. It takes a bold, sexy, confident woman to pull this off. It's not your average sweet girly scent. Brief recap: top and middle are very feminine, base is more unisex. I don't know if I'll ever have the "courage" to wear it in public, but sometimes i put it on my wrists while at home, and I sniff the hell out of it! Also, the bottle is so cool and sexy, so at least it looks great in my collection.

I didn't expect this to actually smell different from the EDP, but it does. It's more fruity and definitely fresher (less musty) than the original. Sweet, soft flower petals also bloom throughout the fragrance, keeping it from becoming too sharp. I like it, but I think the original is more suitable for me. The fresh patchouli in here has a slightly masculine edge - I think this would smell great and unusual on a man. There is also a rich chocolatey vibe to this fragrance, but not sweet chocolate - it's as if the flower petals are melded with this rich dark chocolate, where the sweetness is only coming from the floral element. Great lasting power for an EDT, but not overbearing, especially when sprayed on clothing.

I have owned the EdP two times, and both times I swapped it away. I LOVE the scent; I just cant deal with that annoying tuber note, not on my skin anyway. Now the EdT smells just as good and is additionally a step up from the EdP! LOVE it! It is not as creamy with vanilla, the tuber note is plenty strong but somehow sticks out less, and there is a fruitiness to the perfume as (it might just be my chemistry) it smells like green bananas as it wafts up from my wrists. I love the scent of bananas in perfume, so even if it is not intentional by Tom Ford, that is how it shows up on my skin. For this alone, I might have to purchase a bottle. This is my 110% PERFECT version of Black Orchid.
