Bois Rouge

Finally wearing the discontinued Tom Ford Bois Rouge, a bottle that I blind bought earlier this year, a great deal and purely by chance—considering it’s a discontinued fragrance from the Private Blend line that’s generally difficult to come by—having read good things about it, and those good things are generally true. It’s spicy, woody, semi-animalic fragrance that feels both a little antiquated and right-on-the-nose as far as contemporary scent profile. Its note list consists of bergamot, florals (jasmine, lily of the valley), patchouli, woods (cedar, sandalwood), amber, leather, vanilla, and vetiver. It’s provocative while being harmonious, with patchouli, leather, and vetiver giving things a kick vs. the freshness of bergamot and the relative comfort of the florals, amber, vanilla, and woods. I enjoy its density and again how it harkens back to more classically masculine powerhouse fragrances while simultaneously being a modern unisex multifaceted creation. It’s an outstanding performer, really quite great and consistent with the Tom ford Private Blend releases of the late 2000s, albeit not as much of a powerhouse as Tobacco Vanille, Noir de Noir, or Amber Absolute. And while it’s in the same vein as Japon Noir—another discontinued Private Blend from the 2000s—in terms of its spicy and slightly animalic character, Bois Rouge is not quite as provocative overall, I’d say, despite being a little bit easier to wear than Japon Noir. The comparison is warranted, though. I’m quite impressed by Bois Rouge and glad that I have it. 8 out of 10

My mum wears this one which is funny because when i first bought it, to me it smelt like a mans fragrance and i couldnt picture any female wearing it, but i think really confident and self-assured women could pull this off. To me it spells confidence and power, its sexy and im a big fan of fragrances with leather scents although the leather in this one was quite soft when i sprayed it on me. This scent slapped me right across the face and took over an hour to finally calm down but once it settled, it was really nice and it lasted all day. Perfect for barbecues on a cool night.

This is a classic masculine scent with dominant combo of vivid cedar with a tiny dusty vibe, mild & soft leather, mild earthy vetiver and patchouli with a pinch of bergamot and a mild smoky incency vibe. At the late dry down I get a mild & slightly sub-sweet amber. Nothing groundbreaking thogh but decent and slightly harsh but totally wearable. Nice for mild cold weather. It hasn't enough power for winter. Good longevity and moderate sillage. For the cedar lovers..

Absolutely gorgeous. It's like a modernized dry leathery woody, simplistic version of CK Obsession for Men, but it is still its own creation. Citrus up top, dries down to a slight dusty leather, woods and amber. Very classy stuff, something to wear to a nice dinner with a suit. Younger cousin of Japon Noir.

Fantastic fragrance. Very unique and masculine. It’s almost impossible to find but if you do it’ll be pricey.

Found sample of Bois Rouge at a decent price and finally gave it a wear. Overall great fragrance, but i wouldnt pay thousands for it. When i first got decant, from the cap it smelled like Monsieur Rochas, which i was right away disappointed because i couldnt understand all the mourning, since vintage rochas are readily available, so i proceeded to test it on the skin. On skin it has a very interesting qualities. When i sniff close to the skin - i get cedar thats very similar in qualities to the one found in M by Puredistance, albeit a touch lighter. When i smell this fragrance in sillage/from a distance - thats exactly where magic happens. You will get a soft, musky, sparkly amber type scent that reminds me very close to how Myrrhe Imperiale by Armani smells like. Cedar wood that i smelled close to the skin adds just right touch of woodiness with underlying brown, moist, mossy chypre note ala Equipage/Monsieur Rochas/Hera by Papillon(although in Hera its more green). Thats where Bois Rouge starts to lean more to a masculine side. Materials used are high quality, no irritating synthetics that is current market overfilled with. Bois Rouge lasts good 8 hours or longer and has about a foot long soft projection. Overall - nice to have fragrance for a well dressed man that shines in sillage. Would be happy to have a bottle but surely not worth the chase at mega inflated prices.

What a beautiful scent! This masterpiece is the most representative of unisex fragrances. The gentle patchouli opens with a very soft sweet redwood scent which continues to deliver a richer, darker and heavenly atmosphere. I can imagine how nice and geniune Tom Ford is. As a female it is definitely wearable, delicate and mysterious that gives you strength. I haven't ever smelt a fragrance like this, it is not like Japon Noir which is masculine and powerful, nor like Moss Breches which leans to be feminine. It is such an intoxicating beautiful redwood scent which transports you back to a bygone era. The redwood scent is so overwhelming that it dominates to remind me that I am nothing within its presence. Tom Ford is such a gentle, thoughtful man who brings his inspirition to us. I would like to stop chasing after other fragrances as I am now happy enough with all of his TF bottles, my favourites. Bois Rouge is the one that includes all the thought from Tom Ford. The scent of redwood from Bois Rouge is extremely beauitful and captivating. It is an art of creating scent! To me, Tom Ford and Andy Tauer are the true artists of scent. The first impression from I just opened a 250ml bottle from 2008.

It is just impossible to find a happy medium with Tom Ford fragrances, because he will create some breathtaking masterpiece and then discontinue it some time later!! I don't know how to be mad at this man because I almost wear exclusively his perfumes and I love and cherish his creations, but then he cuts it off and I can't find it anywhere. Unfortunately, that is the price to pay! Bois Rouge is no exception. When I tested this out from the sampler I was blown away at first, thinking how this can be a PARFUM. It really smells like a tire shop, some metal lab, oils and heavy duty mechanical facility or plant. Without ever smelling it you'd never wanna even try it based on such description. YET, it smells magnificent. Addictive. Annoying, but in a good way. It starts sharp and aggressive, somewhat unpleasant even, but then dries down to a quiet smooth leathery smoky dry scent. It is much sharper and drier than Jardin Noir, no sweetness in it. Still a very unique fragrance. I lucked out and got a sealed bottle from international seller. This is very masculine fragrance in my opinion.

I am in love with most of Tom Ford's concoctions and this is no exception. It starts sharp, tartly sharp, and smoky to my nose, heavy, heady, utterly individual and beautiful, the vetiver is very present and there is a slight hint of cedar,it continues strong till the last and BEST stage, an alluring, slightly ambery smoky leather and sandalwood with gentle nuances of sensational jasmine and lots of vetiver! Only falling in love can rival the sensation this scent causes, what a beauty! I have exhausted the 3ml tester and would love to own this exquisite desirable juice from the Master of sensational thrills Tom Ford. Needless to say longevity is huge and sillage monstrous!

Tom Ford Private Bled Bois Rouge Citrus opening that goes away in few seconds. Then, i can smell the leather right from the start. It is dry and i think it is because of the base of woody notes - may i say cedar? I think so, brings some smoky notes too. Then, Vetiver appears giving some dirty stuff to the scent. Very good! The dry is resinous but the leather is still there, always playing with the other notes This is an amazing fragrance. So powerful and also so complex! :) 5 stars! So bad it has been discontinued! :(

Impossible to find and holds the No.1 spot for the rarest Tom Ford fragrance and its apparent counterpart - Japon Noir, (which is second rarest followed by Moss Breches). Would go for insane prices if anybody actually had a bottle - it definitely exists, but it's almost like it never did, with the exception of the small samples, it can't be found anywhere. I've researched for it on ebay to see when the last sale was nothing comes up, it's very elusive.

145) Just change the name Bois rouge = Noir Tom Ford = very similar to Habit Rouge, Tom Ford wanted more Vanilla, Patchouli and Amber. It was a creation of David Apel. It is somehow a re-write of Shalimar and Habit Rouge in "cloth designer" version, starting with citrus, bergamot, citron, lavender, next spices (cardamom, cumin, coriander), floral jasmine and woody notes (guaiac, vetiver, patchouli), powdered amber in base. Some U.S. Guerlain.

This note is so similar to Japan Noir, but this is more of a fragrance, rather than a scent, or scent note... it's much more complex and has more depth than JN. It's also masculine however, not soo much as JN because of the very pungent jasmine and patchouli. Still as pungent as those two are, the cedar is very alive and present as well and there is no mistaking... woman, this fragrance was NOT for you, despite what the brand says.

Very similar to Japon Noir, although somehow evokes something more red in me, and it has a distinct cedar note which I sometimes find erotic. Woody, spicy, unusual. Must have been inspired by Habit Rouge. By the way, this fragrance is for whoever likes it and can afford it. Fragrance has no gender!
