Costa Azzurra Parfum

This isn’t the loud, desperate "new money" of a logo-drenched tracksuit; this is the quiet power of a high-limit black card tucked into the pocket of a bespoke linen shirt. It carries the weight of a successful day-out—impeccable, non-offensive, yet possessed of a magnetic "wow factor" that pulls people in like a tide. While the fragrance world chases the high-octane hype of Louis Vuitton’s Imagination or settles for the flat echoes of its clones, Costa Azzurra Parfum takes a more discerning route. It is the "Billions" alternative for the man who wants the Tom Ford prestige without the unnecessary financial flex of the Private Blend price tag. It’s the satisfying, weighted thud of a vault door—secure, expensive, and absolute. The experience is non-linear and surprisingly versatile. It’s "safe for the gym" in the way a luxury timepiece is safe for the tennis court—it belongs there because it’s built for peak performance, yet it never loses its pedigree. It’s clean enough to be polite, but deep enough to suggest a life of travel and intrigue, even if you’ve never actually set foot on a Mediterranean beach. As the scent settles, it evokes the imagery of a vintage Alfa Romeo winding through a cypress-lined road. There is a "what are you wearing?" energy to it, but it’s the kind that leaves people silent. They won’t ask—they’ll just assume you belong in the room. It strikes that rare, golden balance: the quality of a niche masterpiece with the effortless, mass-appeal of a classic. Parfum flankers should be deeper, richer than their EDP counterparts but apparently Tom Ford disagrees. Much like in Ombre Leather the Parfum is a less complex and even airy compared to the EDP version. Sure there's a good dose of amber and labdanum to give it some sweet thickness but gone are the marine notes and spices while the cypress is also restrained. Fortunately the amalfi lemon leans on the labdanum and amber to gives it some creaminess or else you'll get that dreaded pinesol cleaner vibe especially with the cypress. This is the more mass appealing version as was Ombre Leather Parfum. Easier to wear and feels more feminine. If you want some depth then spray the EDP or PB along with the parfum. You may have to re-apply the EDP or Private Blend (herein referred to as PB) versions as they only seem to last 4-5 hours whereas the Parfum can make it 8-10 hours. At least they nailed the longevity which you would expect a parfum to have. This is an easy wearing scent with some oak and cypress to keep it interesting but this is made with a designer aesthetic in mind which should appeal to the masses. It definitely draws compliments and will last a work day so it is an ideal office scent. If you aren't content with that then consider layering with the EDP or PB as previously stated. I'd give this a 4.25/5 only because it does smell well blended if simple and does last an entire day which seems to be rather exceptional in the summer/spring freshie category. I'll revisit this again in the fall to see if the thicker sweetness may help carry it in colder weather. Perhaps the oak and cypress may get a boost too. We shall see.

So now that I've owned a full bottle of this for a couple of months now I feel like I have enough time spent with it to give it a full review and express my well rounded opinions. First off, this and Clive Christian Art Deco Cypress XXI are easily the two most amazing, attractive and natural smelling cypress based fragrances on the market currently with Costa Azzura being geared more for warmer weather and the Clive Christian being better acclimated to spring and fall. Costa Azzura is much brighter, it's citruses juicier and more lively and volatile while not to the point of effervescent. A smooth juiciness if you will. Art Deco Cypress while just as bright, gets there by way of effervescence and it does make it feel higher quality in the opening while also allowing the fragrance to be much heavier later on. But I would prefer the Tom Ford in the heat without hesitation. The way they took the original driftwood accord in the original and beefed it up in this parfum is spot on, with a little additional amber from Spanish labdanum, this one really just hits all the right spots for a great warm weather, Mediterranean coast in essence type of fragrance that is ubber masculine and has well above average performance and projection!!! It is a bit expensive as a Tom Ford Parfum, but so far all but Grey Vetiver have been top notch and more than worth the asking price. This one is no exception.

Alongside Beau De Jour this is in my opinion the best tom ford has to offer. Very masculine and dry. Definitely 25+ territory, probably the best Cypress fragrance I've tried. If you can get this for a fair price and you enjoy woody aromatics it's hard to argue against buying a bottle It opens with fresh, aromatic lemon and Cypress with some sea notes. Summery, but not extremely so. It becomes much more woody in the dry down, almost getting a spicy note, and becomes increasingly cypress dominant. The sea notes also intensify somewhat. At the tail end of the dry down , it takes on a sweeter, ambery note that is a little more conventional. Overall, this smells like a forest by the sea. Performance wise it's on par with other parfums. Less projection than the EDP but it makes up for it in longevity and depth I think it's suitable for all year wear. It's fresh enough that it can be used in the summers, if a bit too heavy in the dry down. The forestry notes work well in autumn too,and the Cypress is piney enough that I'll happily use it in the winter too. If you're wondering if there is a difference between this and the EDP, it's mainly that this is a bit on the heavier side. The Cypress and woods are stronger, but it's otherwise essentially identical. If you want a pure summer fragrance, go for the EDP. Otherwise, this is better.

Not sure what makes an italian lemon different from other lemons. But thankfully, this doesn't have that lemon cleaner/disinfectant vibe. Instead the lemon, amber and oak combine to form a candied ginger backed with a cypress note. This seems to be sweeter than the EDP or PB versions but never cloying. It gives it some heft and with the lack of marine notes makes this seem less aquatic. You get a sense of being near the coastline as there is an airyness to it but it isn't like its predecessors. Those had a salinity, waves crashing upon the shoreline and being picked up by the air. With this one you feel a bit removed from the coastline, but this is more well rounded and smoother. Projection is good for the first 3 hours and it lingers in a small bubble for 8. I think it would be a good base to layer the others on. Or if you dislike marine/sea notes and wanted something smoother and sweeter then you'll be pleased with this. I prefer this one to the others as it is the easiest to wear and seems to be the most versatile. I also wonder how this will perform in cooler weather. The others with their marine notes felt out of place and the salinity kinda reminds one of human sweat which isn't a desirable aspect. This should hold up much better but time will tell.
