Grey Vetiver Eau de Toilette

To quote the late Kevin Samuels, "The Marlboro Man steps off the billboard" is the best way to describe what is one of my favorite fragrances from the house of Tom Ford. This and a handful of other perfumes are what I'd classify as the "essence of masculinity". This woody aromatic perfume is exactly what you see in the note breakdown and accords. It starts with a refreshing blast of citrus notes with the fresh spicy accord lingering throughout the background. By the time it phases into the dry down you're left with an addictive earthy musk. This fragrance will help you stand apart from everyone whether it is the boardroom or the classroom. Versatility, refinement, and simplicity come to mind when it comes to the aura of "Grey Vetiver EDT". As far as performance goes, I get 6-7 hours that will get me through most of the work day with moderate projection. This isn't the type of fragrance that needs to shout it's presence. It makes its statement subtly as it occassionally wafts through the air revealing itself in brief moments. It saddens me that this version of "Grey Vetiver" has been discontinued. John Varvatos XX Artisan comes close to capturing the essence of "Grey Vetiver EDT" and is a great alternative if youre a fan of this DNA. I have yet to open my bottle of the EDP, however, I can only imagine how impressive it must be. I will enjoy each lasting moment with this bottle until its final wearing. In closing, "Grey Vetiver EDT" is not only a great warm weather fragrance, but an essential part of a refined gentleman's wardrobe. If you're in search of a classy and masculine signature scent, feel free to give this a try before it is gone from the grey market.

Tom Ford Grey Vetiver EDT has to be the easiest dumb reach of my ever burgeoning fragrance collection. I’m sure we all have those days when we cast our eyes over all the lovely bottles but nothing jumps out or you just can’t be bothered taxing your brain..... this is simply my go-to troubleshooter. A bottle at home and a bottle at work, gets me out of a jam every time! It’s classy, sophisticated, professional and the Vetiver is so well blended, with the citrus particularly, that it never feels like it’s going to go dirty on you in the dry-down. Nothing wrong with that in something like Lalique Encre Noire but that’s not it’s purpose here. The EDT is my preference over the EDP, which ventures into slightly darker Vetiver territory but that’s not a comment meant to dismiss the EDP..... just my preference of the two. Grey Vetiver EDT is just simply a great all-rounder that is unlikely to offend anyone and is a fantastic introduction to anyone who hasn’t wanted to venture into Vetiver territory. As has been said by previous reviewers, performance isn’t the greatest I have to admit too but I just don’t care.... just put some more on! Works just as well in a suit as it does in white shirt & jeans...... you’ll feel clean & confident in this without trying too hard. Good for 30+ age group and I’d say perfect for us ‘mature’ gents. Lots of great compliments with this one and I’ve never had a negative one; it just works. I’ve been through four 100ml bottles and two 50ml bottles in the past few years, in between my other fragrance rotations but I can guarantee one thing; when I finish my current bottle, I’ll go straight out and buy another!

I have recently purchased this G V EDT. It opens with very nice natural smelling lemon/Grapefruit and bergamott, with hints of vetiver floating around. as this scent dries down the citruss notes go to the background and the main note Vetiver comes into play and pretty much stays that way for the duration with hints of light spice/oak moss and a green basil note which smells very natural. What i like best is the fact that the citrus notes always stay for the whole duration. The scent lasted 10 hours on my skin with two sprays to the neck and 1 on the chest. This scent can be worn year round. It is one of the cleanest and modern smelling vetiver's i'v come across. Quality is very high which is expected from Tom Ford. I do prefer this vetiver over Guerlain vetiver which to my nose has too much tobacco. Age range for this scent 25 and up give or take. Sprayer is average. I prefer this version over the EDP as it smells a lot more fresh and clean and also lasts very long so longevity is not an issue. i have tried this during summer as well as winter and i get better longevety in the cooler months. summer time i get around 8 hours and during the cooler seasons i get an easy 10 which i find strange. This would be perfect for a work scent and can be used casually as well.

really good. reminds me a lot of geurlain vetiver with some key differences. the ''iced'' lemon is spot on. when i first sprayed it i got this citrus opening with the same effect as one of those menthol balms. it even slightly opened up my nose smelling it lol. its fresh, clean, airy vetiver. rooty, herbecious mid supported with a bright orange blossom and sage with only a slight herbal bitter. side by side i still think geurlain vetiver is better by a long shot but this is lot more wearable for most people even if you don't like vetiver in my opinion. from the mid it lacks the deeper notes like carnation or tabacco. from the base its almost a nearly identical vetiver but without the warmth, myrrh, leather.. just complexity and richness thru all phases. its is a lot fresher and cleaner. it doesn't last as long but the silage for this is.. i hate to use the word... ''opulent''. geurlain vetiver is still refined but i never saw it as ''classy''. it had this ruggedness of an outdoor working man vibe. but yeah great stuff, smelling this in the air on someone would be great but that tom ford price tag makes it not as accessible. amazing stuff however.

For the Gentlemen or those that aspire to be considered as such, this is arguably the most versatile fragrance from the whole Tom Ford world of creations. Inoffensive, professional yet casual and well mannered. One of the easiest fragrances from the Tom Ford library of scents that a well put together individual can and will pull off. A fragrance does not have to scream or announce its presence for justification of its quality. I love the Eau de Parfum & Parfum versions but, when I just want to be understated and relaxed while still being a Gentleman, this one does it beautifully without being pretentious or obscenely obnoxious. It’s a personal & close scent that lingers lightly throughout the whole work day and for anything else or occasion in between and after. Pure class in a bottle that is not stuffy nor stoic and neither too relaxed. It’s just right. Regardless of what anyone may say or declare this fragrance to be, it’s a signature worthy scent that can be worn with aplomb and not a care in the world any time of year. I might like Guerlain’s versions of Vetiver & Extreme Vetiver slightly more but, this is excellent juice, period.

Creative modern and crispy clean take on traditional men's citrus-vetiver cologne by Tom Ford. There are many vetiver based scents around but to me this one is very special: designer price and niche quality. This is between green and light vetiver of CREED's Original Vetiver and dark and earthy vetiver of, say, Guerlain's VETIVER. OK, maybe a little closer to Creed! Love the citruses here (many praise EDP version but I really think this one is more interesting and likable). Has herbaceous aspect to it through out but far in the background. Great dry down with vetiver, oakmoss and white musk. Classy, expensive soap smell and great performance (lasts 6-8 hrs on me). Projection is not as strong as in some more traditional vetiver scents but average for EDT. Better in spring/fall but can be year rounder, mostly day fragrance. Great for office and formal occasions. Someone on YouTube called it "Sean Connery in a bottle": it was both funny and kinda true! :) Definitely check it out!!!

If like me you were wondering whether to get the EDT or the EDP, here's a little help. It can be answered by one simple question: how big a fan are you of soapy scents. The EDP is much more dark and soapy while the EDT has more citrus and is cleaner. I got samples of both and sprayed them side by side. For me, the EDP was a little too soapy for my skin, but my roommate preferred it over the EDT. The difference between us is that I prefer citrus and he prefers soapy. So, if you are someone who does not like soapy scents or knows that they don't work on their skin then the EDT is probably the better choice. If you're someone who prefers a stronger scent and doesn't mind or loves a soapy cologne, then the EDP is your baby. The best thing to do is to give both of them a try side by side and see which one works best for you. With either one you will get a great and interesting vetiver scent that will garner many compliments.

I'd agree with others, this is just a lighter version of the EDP. No crazy or weird changes in key notes. It's still vetiver forward - a clean, modern vetiver - but has less of the heavy monginess (that kind of round, 'mushroomyness') in the drydown that the EDP does. And I prefer it this way - it's better blended and balanced because of it. (I'd love a more iris prominent version too!) The only problems are that the EDT doesn't last anywhere near as long as the EDP (silage or longevity) and the EDT is discontinued. Oh, which to buy? The over-priced EDT on eBay or the long-lasting but mongy EDP for normal price. Maybe I'll buy one of each and mix them. Perfect!! EDIT: There's one problem, the EDT has no real drydown. It becomes a skin scent in an hour or two. At least that's decided then. EDP it is!

This eau de toilette is one of the best refreshing fragrances for daily market use. Excellent opening, citrus, refreshing, herbal, with a floral point that is noticeable and of course, as the name suggests: "vetiver", this feels good during drying, has a touch tinted by a soft musk that makes the drying case in wonder leather. The duration is moderate and the wake is also, so it is very suitable for daytime use. Gray Vetiver does not look so gray to me, it is much more multicolored than its title says, it also seems to me to be stylish, masculine, chic, classic that is not antiquated, that under that Mediterranean scent enjoys a perfect balance and a fine aroma and for my wonderful taste Rating: 8.5

I find this one of the most pleasant smells that I've experienced on a fragrance. The opening citrus dominated tones are, I agree, slightly disorientating, but as soon as it settles in and dries down, it becomes very well balanced; I sense the vetiver all the way through its ultimate evaporation. The heart and base is simply wonderful. Furthermore the old fashioned bottle design really appeals to me. Definitely a keeper, and for me usable all year round, since it has relatively powerful sillage (I have it on my wrists and can smell it when walking a pretty long while after applying). As for longevity: I apply it on the early evening and it is still there the next morning when I wake up.

I prefer this over the EDP because its fresher, cleaner and ideal for Spring/Summer. Although few people other than fragheads will know the difference. I sold my EDP because it was too much like Guerlain Vetiver which I enjoy but found redundant to own both. The EDT is little more unique with perhaps the best grapefruit opening I ever smelled. So beautiful on a Spring/Summer morning to put you in the right mindset and a smile on your face. My wife didn't like the EDP that much so it was a no brainer which one to sell. In short, If you're in the market for a gentleman/office/suit fragrance for warmer months Grey Vetiver EDT is full bottle worthy.

As someone who doesn't much care for a potent vetiver note (I can't stand any of the Encre Noirs, even the GV EDP was a little on the strong side for me) this EDT version is perfect. Opening reminds me a little of LL Bergamote 22 - fresh burst of citrus rind, easing into a sort of candied/frosted lemon with smooth vetiver hanging out in the background. To my nose vetiver can harsh, but not here - it's blended perfectly, there is no awkward transition between the citrus top and the woodier drydown. Not a complex scent, but still excellent perfumery. Leans classic and mature, but this strikes me as more unisex than the EDP.

This is my favourite vetiver fragrance. It's green, but not as harsh, as some of the other vetivers out there. It smells citrusy fresh, a bit herbal and above all: clean. I wouldn't call this a "sexy fragrance" it has more of a business vibe to it. I wish I had more than one bottle, so I could wear this all summer long, but alas. I'm excited to try the new Eau de Grey Vetiver, as I'm hoping it's as easy to wear as this one is. The EDP is a good alternative, but it's just a bit more harsh and "cold" compared to the EDT. Why do all the good ones always get discontinued...?

I think this could be a pretty versatile fragrance. I can see a man in a suit and tie and I could see a man in shorts and t-shirt on the beach wearing this. I was not always fond of vetiver but to me this one is well done. Similar to Encre Noir Sport but less floral. I really do enjoy this fragrance on a hot day. I would say that this does really appeal to most of the crowd but not everyone. All in all I would say this is a safe buy if you are a fan of vetiver. If you are not, you may want to steer clear. 8/10

This is my all time favourite EDT. I bought it around 10 years ago, but it was quickly discontinued in the Netherlands. I loved it on me and have gotten lots of compliments wearing it. I tried with the EDP, but that turned out to be an incredibly dull scent. I miss this EDT that lasted forever on me, but I've never found a proper alternative. This vetiver is lovely androgynous and because of that a bit mysterious, which made it exciting to wear. The alternatives I've tried are too masculine for me, a woman.

I got a half full bottle on ebay for a reasonable price. I feel it is too expensive otherwise. I also have the EdP version (also from ebay!) This is a very nice, non offensive fresh vetiver smell. I doubt anyone at work will hate it, but then again I also never got any comments about it (good or otherwise). It's a definite dumb reach for work and never fails to deliver. I would definitely overspray this so it will last longer. Sometimes I layer it with the EdP version.

Clean, cool and businesslike. A masterful blend of quality components. That's what I like about this EDT. After a rather powerful citric opening, the scent is quickly calmed down with herbal notes, and then Mr. Vetiver steps in, accompanied by Messrs. Oakmoss, Musk and Amber. Beautiful rooty-woody drydown. Projection and longevity are only moderate but quite sufficient for a day at the office. Worth every penny, recommended!

I have to agree with the majority in saying this frag is a classy masculine scent. Fresh and an absolutely fantastic take on vetiver that's not too earthy. This is an absolute office beast for me and one of my most complimented frags. Of the 40+ bottles I have, this is one that I've gone through twice already and need to purchase a third.

I really like this scent in both the EDT and EDP versions. They're both different. The EDT is airy, more citrus and a bit more floral than the EDP. Also the vetiver is not as sweet or as deep in the EDT. This from a guy who did not even like Vetiver scents other than the old Guerlain Vetiver to some extent.

Just getting more and more into vetiver, found this at my local shop for around 50 usd per 100ml discounted. They still have them and going to grab an extra bottle today. Fell in love with it and enjoy it more than the edp i tested there. They seem to be trying to get rid of em and keep edp but i love it.
