NOIR SLEEPING BEAUTY Noir perfumes exude sophistication and seduction. The colour black symbolizes mystery and mysticism. It absorbs all spectral colours and leaves no room for light. It's the ultimate colour for a classic sleeping beauty. Black perfumes have a mysterious nature, awakening our senses and increasing the anticipation of what's to come. Noir de Noir is an inky black night of darkness. We know the night is made for fun, and so does this scent. It has the power to take you to the dark side. Once you feel its seductive darkness and the veil of mystery, you can never go back. For me, this is one of Tom Ford's best fragrances. I use it a lot and consider this perfume unisex. "Noir de Noir by Tom Ford is a very well-blended floral and spicy oriental fragrance ... and quite black. I still don't know whether to call it a dark or semi-dark scent. It can be semi-dark because it gives you some faint colours when showcasing its subtle floral tones. But it is also pitch dark when it fills you with its sombre black tones. This blackness completely outlines this perfume and its evolution. It just seems perfect the way it is. The perfume opening is very smooth like someone slowly approaching with slippers on. Soft and intimate saffron begins this fragrance journey, a bit leathery and bittersweet. This note persists for a while, but the fragrance development surprises us with a powerful, dark, and enduring rose that lasts for almost the entire life of the fragrance. The rose note gives you nuances of powderiness and gloomy woods. It's a dark, dirty, and woody special rose... a wonderful rose! I am not a big fan of rose scents, but I really like this composition. Presumably, due to the heart truffle note, the dark rose scent is underlined with musky, earthy, and sharp accords. The base sets a peaceful oud frame with earthy patchouli and slightly sweet vanilla, while the dark, sombre rose lingers for quite a while. The agarwood note is not all that noticeable and plays a background role in the shadowy development of the fragrance. Over time, the dry-down becomes sweeter and more powdery. "Noir de Noir" gives a strong impression of class and sophistication. It has above-average longevity, but only average projection. It's probably correct for this upscale fragrance. Excessive projection could be distracting or even annoying. I have a weak heart for these types of obscure scents and find them very alluring. However, the world is not perfect and not everyone likes this scent. It probably has as many haters as it has lovers. Many people reject the subtly overlapping shadow that is present in all phases of this fragrance. After all, "cést un parfum noir de noir" (it is a black made of black perfume). The only concern is the price! I can only call it quite expensive if there is a very well-mixed similar fragrance. It's "Club de Nuit Intense Woman" by Armaf and it costs 15% of the Noir de Noir price. I didn’t expect to fall for Noir de Noir this much. I thought I knew what a dark, rich Tom Ford scent would smell like: sultry, maybe a little predictable in the typical "Private Blend" kind of way. But this is something else entirely: moody, haunting, and nothing short of mesmerizing. The rose in this isn’t overly delicate or syrupy. This is a deep, brooding, and very gothic rose. The chocolatey patchouli immediately wraps around it like a curtain, giving the rose weight without suffocating it. And just when you think you’ve figured it out, the truffle and oud creep in with a subtle dirtiness that keeps the whole thing mysterious and honestly a little dangerous, but still luxurious as hell. This isn’t the kind of fragrance you wear mindlessly. It’s dramatic, unapologetic, and fully aware of its impact. You shouldn’t be reaching for this to blend in. It’s undeniably intense, yet never overwhelming. Sweet, but not in a gourmand sense, floral, but far from delicate. It walks a fine line between elegance and seduction, and it’s that balance that makes it truly compelling. By the time it settles, the rose and vanilla melt into a dark, resinous base. The patchouli stays strong and warm, and the sweetness turns more creamy and addictive over time. I catch whiffs of it hours later and still get that little spark of surprise, like yep, this is still going. The last thing you smell before it fades completely is vanilla, a little bit of patchouli, and a very subtle oud. Performance is fantastic. I easily get 12+ hours on skin, with strong projection for the first few, then it turns into a thick, intimate cloud that stays close but seems like it’ll never disappear. It's a fall and winter staple, but you could get away with wearing this on spring nights as well. This isn’t just my favorite Tom Ford fragrance. It’s one of my favorite fragrances of all time. Everything about it feels deliberate, from the way the rose and patchouli are layered, to how it evolves on skin. It’s a reminder that bold compositions can still be incredibly refined and evocative. Noir de Noir isn’t for everyone, but I think that’s exactly the point. You don’t wear this to chase compliments or fit into a crowd. You wear it because it speaks your language before you even say a word. It’s moody, magnetic, and built with the kind of power and elegance that doesn’t need to prove itself. There’s something undeniably special about a fragrance that can be this bold, this romantic, and still feel like it was made just for you. A long time ago in a previous career I had a managing director whose husband sent her a Valentine while at the office. They were wealthy, and the Valentine's gift certainly didn't hide it. It was delivered by special courier on dry ice, and inside this package was a "bouquet of twelve rose buds" in a bright red box with a hand-tied white silk bow. The rose buds were actually handmade dark chocolates infused with a rose extract. They were gorgeously intricate, the smell of the rose coming off of the chocolate was photorealistic and divine, and the dark chocolate was hand roasted and blended to the artisan's specifications from beans from a private farmer the firm worked with in some part of the world - or something like that - and it smelled exquisite. She shared it with me and her other managers, and I remembered thinking it was probably the best chocolate I've ever had in my mouth and likely still so to this day. Noir de Noir makes me think of a lot of things, but I somehow always end up coming back to that memory of decadent rose dark chocolate and Valentine's Day. Noir de Noir means to be decadent, just like that Valentine's gift, and the opening boldly announces this intention. A hay and floral saffron note and a slightly-garlicky and earthy mushroom black truffle note adorn a rose accord. Saffron and truffle are signals of luxury, both being worth more than most precious metals by weight, and to place them with a rose accord - which seems to be Damask, I believe - is excess luxury piled on top of excess luxury. The rose is pink, warm and a bit honeyed but also a touch green-fruity, yet the cast of characters around it seem to drive its pinkish hue to the color of wine. Almost immediately a chocolate accord begins to make an appearance, the blooming of a sweet and earthy patchouli and vanilla combo. The saffron and the truffle leave first, allowing the rose and the chocolate-patchouli to seduce and flirt for quite a long time after, before the perfume settles into a dark-woods, patchouli, and a bit of moss at the skin scent. There are some words I've already said that I'm going to repeat: excess; luxury; decadence; exquisite; wealth. There is so much of that character to Noir de Noir that it trips over itself and falls into the realms of guilty pleasures, sex, and the like. Yes, it's a bit sweet, but it's not that sweet; yes, it's gourmand, but it's not really a gourmand; yes, it's a rose patchouli, but it's not personified by going outside the bounds of the unisex category. It's a lot, and it means to be a lot, but you never mind. It is without a doubt my favorite of the Private Blend collection.

Pure opulence. Dark and mysterious fragrance. Very classy and elegant scent DNA that is very well constructed extremely smooth and an example of great perfumery as this is the fragrance that truly started this genre. Better suited to evening and formal occasions. Built around intense truffle, smoky patchouli and dark chocolate giving this fragrance a very earthy and unique scent profile that smells divine blended with a lot of rose punchy warm saffron and a sweet slightly powdery vanilla to balance this fragrance and really compliment and accentuate the earthy core well making an incredible aroma that smells indulgent and sophisticated making this fragrance much more palatable and rounding off the more intense notes-the vanilla is warm and sweet but not too much. Saffron gives this lift and effervescence. Some warm ambers in there aswell to provide the fragrance with a deep resinous feel which is not strong but noticeable adding nice complexity to this formulation. Sweet vanilla and bitter earthy notes blended to perfection, intense yet smooth. The element of mystery makes this fragrance extremely alluring and intriguing yet without being unappealing. Extremely complicated and well composed by the perfumer extremely precise every note balanced and layered well and of the highest standard is what makes this fragrance much high quality than competition whilst not worth the full retail currently at £220 for 50 ml and £295 for 100ml at discounter this is a no brainer an absolute staple for unique deeper special occasion fragrances. Can pick this up for £150 for 50ml and around £230 for 100ml. Strong projection that isn’t too strong or annoying as this fragrance is so smooth it can be powerful yet soft with a wonderful sillage trail that lingers. Great longevity around 10hours on skin and a day on clothes. Overall one of the best fragrances Tom ford had ever produced and a great introduction for those looking for a more unique complicated scent profile compared to mainstream fragrance and also great tho those experienced collectors who want to add to their collection pure class but get your nose on it first as not a safe blind but however more mass appealing than many fragrances. Unisex slightly leaning masculine smells wonderful dressed up. Wear this on a date and thank me later. 9/10

I discovered Noir de Noir the same day I discovered the TF Private Blend line, back in 2007. A sales associate had me smell it, touting that it was a unisex rose, and I was immediately smitten by its dark burgundy velvet petal rose, conjuring up red wine and blood, thorns, dark, shadowy earth and chocolate-cake-patchouli sensuality. This was early on in my exploration of fragrances beyond just the one or two here and there to wear in heavy rotation. I was thrilled with all of these new discoveries, and was more than happy to use my credit card to have them in my possession. Noir de Noir made me feel like I was really treating myself to a luxury (my first knowledge of Serge Lutens, Frederic Malle, and Creed would be just around the corner). It would be the scent I would often where while DJing, when I was younger, leaner, and always randy. "You smell so good" never felt so authentic as when heard from someone approaching me behind the booth to flirt. To be not quite 30 felt like I had so much ahead of me, and the attention seemed like it would never end. Over time, life happens, often in the form of detours—changing attitudes, changing health, grief and heartbreak. I would retire from DJing and discover the hobby of perfume-making by 2014, which started with exclusively natural perfumery. I'd convince myself that everything I had was too synthetic and not "artful" enough and would sell a whole lot from my collection, include the bottle of Noir de Noir I had at the time (forget about all the now long-discontinued Creeds that, regretfully, were just too easy for me to let go!). Fast forward ten years, and I have long since embraced classic perfumery with its amalgam of natural and synthetic, reignited my love for fragrances tenfold, and now and then, I've sniffed Noir de Noir at the perfume counter to reignite those memories. It's another one that I've not been compelled to replenish as with many that were worn habitually in my past. I also heard and read time and again that it now lacks the depth that it had the first few years it was in production. It will always, however, be fondly remembered as one of the scents that bookended my salad days.

This fragrance is to me a strong memory that came from nowhere, or perhaps the deepest recesses of my mind, the first instant I smelt it. I was a young child in the 70's, falling asleep on my mother's lap, my head against her chest, her heart beat loud, strong, lulling me, hearing her voice so loud in her chest when she spoke. It is a hot sultry night in Australia, we are under a leafy oak tree in a family friend's backyard. Everyone has been drinking wine and they are all very mellow and chilled, there is smoke from a BBQ fire, and people smoking. I am sleepy and feel so safe and content on my mother's lap, nothing can go wrong when she is holding me. I had forgotten all about those nights at the Belair's house as a child. My mother's perfume, her skin smelt like this, I know it did when I smell Noir de Noir. I have no idea what perfume she wore back then, but this is so familiar. My mother died when I was 25, she was too young, she was my best friend, I held her hand as she died, I still think of her almost every day 28 years later. I love this perfume and every time I smell it that night comes back to me, but I struggle to wear it very often because it brings such a deep and aching grief that is almost unbearable, it makes me feel that if I just close my eyes and reach out, she will be there, I can smell her, right there, somewhere. The memories tinge this fragrance for me so much, but it also has a feeling of deepness and almost melancholy in some ways. The blowsy, boozy deep dark rose, the almost earthy soil, the damp woodiness, the patchouli, my mother loved patchouli. It's a masterpiece of a fragrance, and I wish I could wear it more often and without the memories, but alas, they are forever intertwined in my psyche. I have none left, and reminiscing here I realise I must get some more, even though it's almost torture in some strange way, how to explain?

Dark sexy and seductive.. thats what i would call this fragrance. The first spray was mindblowing.. a earthy gourmand!!! But quick after that the patch and amber kicks in heavily and it goes straight to a familiar territory.. It reminds me of ombre nomade but bit more airy, weaker and earty. Not saying its a copy because its not.. there are definitely some different nuances. This is more gourmand that is way more oude compared to this.. but more like its a familiar profile. Oriental gourmand. It makes me dream about arabian nights, a beautiful princess and her palace.. the room is colored in beaultful dark and goldish colours.. fruits lying on the table, incense burning in the room, open balcony with a beautiful moon shining in to the room.. thats the thing i think of. So again its seductive and sexy.. definitely a date night fragrance. Tom Ford nails it again by making scents seductive, doesnt matter which perfume but it always has that sexy DNA in the formula. Not sure if this is reformulated as well.. but i have a 2018 batch. Performance like i mentioned is not so great, at least not in de projecting .. it still lasts 6 hours at least during winters. 8/10 for me ... i really like the DNA of this perfume but the performance lets this down and make me grave more for the ombre nomade, altough that one is extremely masculine, and this is for anyone who wants to feel sexy and sophisticated And another point it starts beautiful chocolaty and patchouli amber vibe kicks in.. and I hoped the patch would stay a bit more, but it turns into a more rose perfume with some thin nuances of the chocolaty vibe. It's beautiful don't get me wrong but I hoped the mid with the patch could stay longer then 10 min.

I hardly expected to find love on the tube in London...but my heart missed a beat! The tube is a good place to encounter smells, but usually they are not the pleasant kind....this time I got lucky! A striking, long-limbed, beautiful black woman was sitting not far from me. She was captivatingly beautiful in an androgenous, artsy, Shoreditch way. I was deep in conversation with my boyfriend when my head snapped round, my nose on full twitch... a stunning deep, treacly, oud rose with a woodsy twist filled my nostrils. The dark bottle she was holding was unmistakably Tom Ford.....but which??!! Poor girl. I hope I didn't come across as too much of a perfume psycho. I received a beautiful bottle of Noir de Noir this birthday - some love from my love. To me this is a scent of real, deep love. Not first love or infatuation, not maternal love, nor passionate love, but intense, romantic love. Beautiful. Timeless. The scent is blended to perfection & smells like liquid gold pouring over molten woods & love letters scattered with the darkest of rose petals. The oud is present, but not over-powering & the deep, ambery sweetness is tempered by some patch-love & an earthy herbal twist. I am an oriental-lover & chypres can sometimes turn my stomach, but when they are done well I tend to adore them. Noir is mixed perfectly. Great sillage & lasting power - but not to the point of vulgarity. Just enough evolution & interest to keep you on your toes but not so much as to be loud, unclassy or confused. Inky black with a touch of scarlet, flecked with gold leaf. “The rose speaks of love silently, in a language known only to the heart.” A dark beauty & a real heart-stealer.

When I was a teenager I worked at a grocery store with an older gentleman who had a vintage fragrance collection. He insisted that I should have nice fragrances for when I go out on dates etc. since I am around people often as well. He would gift me some of his vintage bottles; Prada Infusion, Azzaro Chrome, and one day he gave me a sample vial of Tom Ford's Noir de noir. Being so inexperienced with fragrances I was blown away, couldn't even name a single note in it but I loved it regardless. Years later I still love it, maybe it's nostalgia but to me it's one of the best rose notes in a designer fragrance. I love the vanilla & subtle oud dry down which just exudes elegance to me. This is what I imagine a rich old lady wears yet I still love wearing it myself. I went through my 10ml vial fairly quick, & would love to buy another bottle some day but wow that pricing even on discounters is pretty wild. If you want a fantastic clone to it, I highly recommend Club De Nuit Intense Woman. I wear that like it's Tom Ford, longevity is great and when I smelt it I was immediately reminded of those old times at my part-time job. (And like $20-30!) 9/10 for me

Got a sample of Noir De Noir and it literally smells exactly the same as Club De Nuit intense woman on my skin. Like I can’t tell any difference. Maybe a bit more chocolate if I’m digging my nose but I’m splitting hairs. Shocked honestly as I’m usually cynical when it comes to clones due to past experiences, but either I’ve been scammed by the sample company or CDNI woman is a dead on clone of NDN (on my skin to my nose anyway, everyone’s body chemistry is different). This is my second day trying the sample, will update if I realise any future differences or further depth. But yea if you don’t wanna spend the money CDNI woman is the way to go, and I’m a 24 year old guy wearing it. When I wear this I always get a weird vibe of sex and darkness, I think it was because by chance when I tried it I was watching a documentary on the Black Dahlia Murder, but it really does capture the unsettling Noir crime aesthetic where sex, lust and danger go hand in hand. Weird road this review has went down I know, I think just the name lends itself to that whole aesthetic. But yea smells amazing, smells like red wine, crimson roses and dug-up earth.

I love this. I'm new to perfume. I can only tell you how I think it smells, and how it makes me feel, both of which are likely to be different from others' experiences. I smell rose, the most appealing of all the rose notes I've tested so far, perhaps because the color I get in my head is not bright red or bright pink, but a deep black/red color when I smell it. The color looks velvety. Maybe this is the truffle? You know how your eyes feel when the lights shut off and it's kindof a relief for your brain? The color I get from this scent is like that. A black-burgundy velvet eye mask. Soothing but sexy, yes? I smell something warm and chocolatey, but not too spicy. Comfortingly warm, like a hug. But there's depth to the hug. It's not just a "hi, friend!" hug. It's like a hug from someone who is secretly pining for you but will never tell you. Comforting, but hopelessly romantic, yes? I don't know how Tom Ford (and the perfume magicians) can make me feel soothed and aroused, content and full of longing, all at the same time, but it suits me down to the ground.

there are perfumes that tell you who you are. Noir de Noir was my entry into the world of serious fragrance — the first bottle I spent real money on, back when that felt like a statement. I wasn’t sure I deserved it yet. But something about it felt like the woman I was reaching toward: grounded, unhurried, the kind of presence that makes a room quietly rearrange itself around her. Not loud. Just undeniable. I’m firmly in the niche camp now, and my collection has grown in directions I never anticipated. Yet this is the only perfume I have ever repurchased. Twice. Twelve years apart. What Tom Ford did here is rare — a dark rose that never tips into sweetness, anchored by truffle and oud into something almost carnal but never cheap. It’s opulent without performing opulence. It simply is. On skin it evolves slowly and stays close, like a secret. People don’t smell you coming. They turn around after you’ve passed. That’s the feeling. That’s always been the feeling. Some fragrances mark a moment. This one has marked an era.

I’m extremely late to writing a review as I’ve had enough time to sit with the scent. This was not only my first Tom Ford fragrance, but also my first private line fragrance. This is one of those scents you develop a personal connection with. It reminded me of a smell from my childhood, specifically when I was in my mom’s room dancing to a song she played. My brother was there too. So that explains why it resonates with me so well. I bought NDN in 2021, but sold it last year due to financial reasons. I bought another bottle, which arrived yesterday. Not sure why, but I’m getting a better experience with this bottle. There was no noticeable “chocolate” quality others mentioned in my first bottle. The rose was more jammy. But in my 2024 batch, the jammy sweetness is dialed back while that earthy, chocolate quality is more noticeable. I do like that jammy smell. Maybe it’ll appear after letting it macerate for a while. Regardless, I’m glad to have it back. It won’t leave my collection again.

I just don't have enough words to express how lovely this is. This reminds me of something very special; an Indian dessert called Kulfi, which has been very popular culturally in India since centuries and I've always loved it. The moment I smelled it for the first time I was like whoaaaa this is some high end Kulfi with the finest ingredients, and also made so sophisticated so sexy, I'm just falling short of words to explain how good it is. It's perfectly milky, sweet, TASTY and so nostalgic. Honestly feels so comfortable. And trust me ladies love this, in fact everyone's gonna appreciate it a lot. Even though this fragrance in general should rather be dressed up in a suit and mainly meant for older men who want to make a statement, I still put a spray or two every night before bed, it's just so sexy. The only issue is it's performance, but it's not as bad as Oud Wood(adorable scent but a cheap Axe body spray performs better), so just overspray it and you'll be perfect.

A jammy sweet rose resting on a bed of chocolatey gourmand deliciousness. It feels very rich and velvety at first spray, and the urge to keep smelling it is irresistible. The umami qualities of truffle/ chocolate give a luscious almost savory sort of counterpoint to the sweetness of the rose. The problem is that on my skin it disappears after an hour to two at the most. Given its high price point this is definitely very disappointing and keeps me from loving it. I just bought a bottle so I must have the newest formula, I’m not sure if an older version would have more longevity. Edit 3/25- I got a new bottle of this and though I’ve never paid much attention to the batch discussions I have to agree, based on this, that batches can be wildly different. This new bottle I got is magical, intense, and lasts ten hours. It’s so good I’m going to use it sparingly, since I can’t be sure what I’ll get from another bottle.

Totally different from the usual rose scents on the market. Wearing it feels like standing in a dark forest with a warm breeze on your skin. You sense the calmness of the soil and rose petals swirling around in the night. It’s dark, but you're safe. There’s no fear, you just surrender. It's gothic, very romantic, and unusually attractive. It always relaxes me and makes me feel like I’ve been transported to that safe place. On days I wear it, I’m literally a Castlevania character. Period! I don’t find this perfume heavy at all. Even though it’s a unisex fragrance, the roses here are velvety and dewy. The oud, saffron and all the sweetness are perfectly balanced. That balance makes it easy to wear on a daily basis, yet it still requires a certain vibe to really pull it off. Definitely not for everyone. But for me, it’s an all-time favorite. The matching track would be 'The Killing Moon' by Echo & The Bunnymen.

this is for close encounter dates that consist of making out and listening to the cure, the type of fragrance you put on when you want to be smothered in kisses by your questionable but sexy fling, putting this on is an invitation to get down to business full stop. Intoxicating, mysterious and irresistible. that goth girl you swear you can fix smells like this, the hot guys from those terrible vampire movies smell like this, 50 year old cougars who wear leopard print and drink red wine all day smell like this, this is the smell of sexy sinners. i think you get my point, this is for people who had doc martins permanently glued to their feet at one point or another. if you've ever seen those ridiculous ads of people being chased because of their fragrance well this is the only one that deserves an advert like that. it smells.. just like heaven.. 👀 see what i did there 👀 unisex but leans a little feminine.

One of my most complimented and asked for fragrances but with a caveat. I have a bottle decanted from the original 2007 250ml batch. When I compare that to what is out now... well there is no comparison. I loved Tom Ford, but between the price hikes and severe watering down of their fragrances, its hard to justify ever buying another Tom Ford (Outside of Ombre Leather EDP). This is an absolute masterpiece crafted by three complete legends in the perfumery industry. But when people ask me what it is so they can get it, I tell them I'm sorry but its not on the market anymore because the last person I told it to was so disappointed that they spent an exorbitant amount on a 50 ml only for it to smell nothing like the original I couldn't do that to people anymore. The original fragrance is an absolute masterpiece though and something that I save for extremely special occasions now.

This is warm, comforting but also loud and seducing. I get a deep, dark rose and something sultry and sensual. It is heavy, yes, but in a way that makes you feel like some sort of femme fatale out in the dark autumn night. I feel so confident wearing this, and the patchouli-blend in the background gives this a touch of something mystical and secret. Like you know something no one else knows. This is like being wrapped inside a deep dark, green forest, lying on a bed of moss whilst dark roses blossom around you. After the initial notes has dried down you get a sweetness, and the perfume feels lighter even though it has evolved into something more velvet-y. This is a masterpiece! And I don’t think I could ever be without this in my collection even though it is just for those special occasions. Though, I didn’t really like it at first, but I guess it takes a bit of maturing.

Deep, sexy, sweet and somewhat "thick", like, there's an oiliness and thickness to it. Warm and intoxicating. I'd even call it a "slutty" scent. I expected a more prominent Turkish delight rose, but the rose is drowned in in a bunch of chocolaty and warm sweetness, which doesn't come out as "gourmand", just as warm and sexy. It's technically a chypre, but it has more of an oriental vibe. I've gotten a cheap dupe for it (not club de Nuit, which I'm planning to get) and I've been wearing it as a signature for like 5 months. I associate it with smudged black eyeliner and strong drinks. It's so dark and sexy that I stopped wearing it at some point, cause it's just... Too much? Like wearing a beautiful dress that is way too revealing. Also, it works extremely well when layered with animalic white florals, like tuberose or jasmine. It makes it even sexier and more intoxicating.
