Rose Prick

First off, the Alhambra Rose Petals dupe is pretty fire if you want a cheapie of this. Onto my actual review: Rose Prick was kind of the first rose fragrance that made me fall in love with roses years back. I encountered it upon investing on my first bottle of TV as a small sample I was given with Rose D'Amalfi. Though I found Rose D'Amalfi brighter and intriguing at first, at the time when I couldn't really appreciate much of the notes besides "Sweet Lotion," but after a while, I went back to Rose Prick. It's soft and sweet and surprisingly earthy for a scent. It reminded me of rose jams I would have with some of my toast or my ice cream. Where noir de noir chose to up the patchouli to an almost chocolate-like consistency, this just straight-up made Patchouli as "soil" as patchouli can be while taking a much softer approach. In comparison with NDN, the rose is also inverted to a lush, softly-spicy sweet rose, again, like jam in contrast with NDN's more dense and fuller take on a rose. Of course, over the years, I've come across far more radiant examples of rose-patchoulis like Radical Rose (my forever reigning king of roses) and the one that made the warm spicy rose-patchouli mainstream, POAL. Certainly, MP and FM make perfumes with far better performance wise and sillage. A real bang-for-your-buck, so it was easy to just forget about Rose Prick near completely, but I was gifted a bottle recently that made me look back. I've realized that I've always used Rose Prick as my standard for what I like in a warm, sweet rose. Sure, there are those that rise far greater that it does now to my nose, but I can't help but treasure it just the same. Rose Prick, despite the name, isn't really sharp, which fits its pastel bottle perfectly. Then again, a prick isn't always...'sharp' so to speak. The szechuan pepper introduces a nice sharpness at first but that goes away within 30 minutes, persisting as something more citrus-like (which is what the dried peppers indeed smell like) and the turmeric (having some dried in my kitchen) is what I know smell as the oddly bitter and soil-like opening open first spray. Within minutes, It reveals a heart of a soft but radiant rose that's sweet without being close to gourmand (in comparison to the biscuit flakes and rose jam of Rose D'Amalfi). The patchouli more or less supports the soil-like smell you get in the background and the tonka bean does provide an almost 'vanilla' like touch that gives way to the sweetness of the rose. All in all, it feels like a lighter, pastel take of the usually dark rose-pathcouli combo. I've worn this to parties and events and I always like how I smell sweet but clean. It's not powdery on my nose, but I could see why someone would say that it is. I can't tell you if this does smell like a grandma scent because...my grandma smells like lavenders mostly. In terms of practicality, you can try the Alhambra dupe first (be warned that sometimes, you just get a bad bottle) and let it macerate for a bit. it's pretty convincing with a stronger tonka-vanilla note. Then, you can try Rose Prick at the store and make the choice. Personally, this projects better from the neck and chest more than wrists!

This is one of those fragrances that surprise me in the sense that I don’t feel like it deserves the relatively low rating that it gets. I’ve read enough opinions on fragrance all around to know that patchouli is not everyone, but Rose Prick to me seems very inoffensive compared to fragrances like Noir de Noir and Black Orchid, who both also have a lot of patchouli. My guess is that this gets a lower vote from a lot of people because of the expensive price point? I agree that it’s overpriced. I find that the Runway Collection from the Private Line is actually more simple and it has less of that ‘Tom Ford’ flair that their regular Private Line collection has. The Private Line is expensive as it is, but these particular ones are very much overpriced. But they are good quality as far as I’m concerned. Rose Prick specifically is not beast mode as far as projection is concerned, but it has good lasting power. I don’t think that if people would get a waft of you, they would immediately pinpoint that it’s rosey. It’s one of those perfumes, to me, that takes itself to a whole fragrance experience of its own where you don’t have to pick apart the notes. I like that about it. I think it’s unique, but not to the level that it can become ‘weird’ to some people. The spiciness is fresh to me, and there’s something green about the fragrance that I really like. In all honesty, I was familiar with the Maison Alhambra dupe ‘Rose Petals’ before the real deal. The dupe has a little bit more of a middle eastern vibe, but all in all it’s a great likeness. It was after testing it in the London store that I felt like I needed the real thing. I was tempted to buy the gift box in London, the package with the 50 mil and a 10 mil travel set, but I couldn’t justify it considering the fact that I could get the 100 mil for a cheaper price point at a discounter. So that’s what I did and I have no regrets. I feel like you can wear this one to pretty much every occasion.

Ahh-maze-ing! This is, hands down, my favorite perfume. I never thought I would be a rose girl, but here I am with my growing rose garden thanks to Rose Prick. Rose Prick is the most unique rose scent I've come across. The spicy Sichuan pepper notes complement the overdose of rose that still retains a powdery softness while being grounded in sensual patchouli. I couldn't quite put my finger on what made this scent so unique, and I attribute it to the turmeric. I can't pick out the individual turmeric note, but it's there adding a subtle sweet spice creating perfection in this blend. After skimming some of the previous reviews, most people tend to have a problem with the heavy patchouli. For me, the patchouli isn't heavy in the least--it's just the right amount. However, this is coming from a patchouli lover. Although Tom Ford's private blends straddle the line between designer and niche, this has the depth and uniqueness of niche perfumery. I highly recommend giving this perfume a whiff next time you're at the TF counter. As a side note... I work in science and have access to a gas chromatographer/mass spectrometer (GCMS). My colleagues and I ran a few different perfumes, mostly designer, through the GCMS. Lo and behold, Rose Prick had the most complex and strongest volatiles out of all the perfumes we tested, meaning it was, hands down, the highest quality out of the lot. TF smacks a crazy price on their perfumes to create exclusivity around it. Setting that aspect of pricing aside, this perfume is super high quality. It still doesn't warrant the exorbitant price IMO, but it's comforting knowing I'm not just getting sh!t with a designer label. I'm getting high-quality ingredients. Rose Prick by Tom Ford, a fragrance that manages to be simultaneously prickly and velvety, just as its provocative name suggests. The Rose with Thorns launched in 2020 and created by nose Guillaume Flavigny, Rose Prick is the "wild" interpretation of a private garden. If you are expecting grandma's classic romantic, soapy rose, you are wrong: here the rose bites. A pinch of pepper and freshly vaporized earth, the impact is pungent. Sichuan Pepper and Turmeric create a cold, almost vibrant spicy opening. It's not the usual citrusy onset; it is a reminder of the earth and the thorns that protect the flower. The heart of the fragrance: The "Triangle of Roses" The true protagonist is an opulent bouquet composed of three fine varieties: Rosa di Maggio: Sweet and honeyed. Bulgarian Rose: Intense and liqueur-like. Turkish Rose: Spicy and deep. Together, these notes create a "fleshy", dense and incredibly realistic rose, which dominates the central scene. The base: chipré elegance as the hours pass, the fragrance settles on a base of Patchouli and Tonka Bean. The patchouli gives it that modern Chypre character, giving depth and a "dirty" but refined nuance, while the tonka sweetens the finish with a creamy tip. It is elegant but rebellious. The matte pink bottle contrasts with the juice inside, which is bold and not at all shy. It is perfect for those who love fragrances that evolve on the skin, going from an almost "spicy" start to an explosive floral heart, up to a dry and sensual base. In summary: A modern floral masterpiece that celebrates the beauty of the flower without forgetting the danger of its thorns. A must-have for collectors of Tom Ford's Private Blend line.

oh wow... this perfume... it doesn't smell particularly sugary or feminine for the bottle to be pink so already the design is misleading. it's not sweet, it's not anything that anyone would look for in a fragrance, and actually it is quite bitter and heavy on the patchouli. can be worn by men, something really smells messed up about it. do not purchase if you want a perfume that smells good. this is difficult to understand and for a rose perfume, does not smell enough like rose but it is one of my top 8 favorite perfumes, please don't ever discontinue this work of art. i cannot pinpoint or describe what is so disturbing about this perfume but i love it. also this fragrance is quite addicting, i cannot stop sniffing my hand. it's perplexing, almost as though i feel i need to find out what i love about it but it is so intoxicating. 💘✨️💝 the ideal setting for this, at least in my mind.. would be traveling. i've mentioned this in another review.. but TF fragrances strongly evoke a desire to change the scenery. the longing to dissociate by changing the setting and changing the music. i don't know if anyone can understand what i mean to express, but that's what TF fragrances do for me which is appreciated because it really offsets a comfort and complacency (or i'm sorry, not complacency as in making excuses but more like a want to find new places to explore) whenever i just feel... too content (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, to feel comfortable and at peace with myself is a good thing usually). for this reason alone, this is for sure one of my favorite perfumes.

This was a big surprise for me. I usually steer clear of rose/patchouli fragrances because they have become so ubiquitous over the past several years that I thought the last thing needed is another one on the market. So, I had zero interest in even trying it until I received a sample with a recent purchase and immediately fell in love. This is beautiful. A jammy rose, slightly spicy from the Sichuan pepper, with an herby patchouli and delicious tonka dry down. I usually hate sweet notes blended with patchouli, but here the spice notes blend with the patchouli creating a warm herbaceous earthiness that balances out the sweetness of the rose and tonka. And unlike other rose scents in the spicy rose genre, it isn't Middle Eastern, or syrupy sweet, but just sweet enough that it should satisfy those with gourmand tastes and green, spicy, and earthy enough for those who enjoy rose chypres too. Since I enjoy both, this is a delight for me. I think because of that, it should have wide appeal to both young and old alike. While I only purchased a travel sprayer it should last quite a while since this lasts and projects very well on me, though a fb is not out of the question in the future. I'll have to wait for a sale though, because, oh my, that price. Ouch!

When I first sprayed this on my skin, I was not a fan! I went into Sephora to purchase the new “cafe rose” but that’s not on sale till tomorrow. So I left the store, got almost out of the mall and smelled my hand and turned right around and purchased Rose Prick! It smells way better than the cafe rose 2023; to me that one smells like “grandma rose” Rose prick starts off putting, but after about 10 minutes it’s a hard scent to explain, it’s earthy, spicy, rosy, a tiny bit sweet but not gourmand. It’s gorgeous, I can’t stop smelling my hand. I don’t get “powdery” from this on my skin. I’ve really never smelled anything like this before, it smells nothing like anything in my collection; maybe in the same family as Sweet Diamond Pink Pepper? I’m in love! Let it dry down a little before you say no, and you have to spray it on skin, I would have never purchased it from the scent on paper.

Mighty roses with spices, and patchouli. Very unusual rose perfume, absolutely unique, if your are looking for a jammy, sweet, syrupy or pink rose then this is not for you. This one is kinda powdery and green. It will trick your nose for sure, you will never be sure if there is rose or not although it is overloaded with the roses, the bubble which creates around you is very different. Tonka here also not a sweet kind. Actually there is no hint of sweetness whatsoever. Very luxurious. Very niche. Very Majestic. Blended tov the perfection. TF never fails with the perfumes. And it is super potent! Easily fills the room just with 1 shot, projects like a hell for the whole day, lasting is eternal, survives even the shower. Once you put and won't like somehow you will not able to wash it off :) Thinking to get backup bottles, I love that much. ★★★★★

Just picked up our bottle of Rose Prick yesterday (1/24/20) from Nordstrom. The bottle is beautiful in person. It is much less pink than expected and it has a lovely, velvety matte finish. It looks very elegant and understated cool in person. The scent is actually amazing. Being honest, I did not love the first 15-20 mins, as it seemed like some sort of amberish mishmash of notes, but once it settles you are left with a warm patchouli, a faintest hint of dark rose and you will actually pick up on the pepper! There is also a smoky, wood note that is prominent, but not dominate. 1 spray on my wrist lasted almost 6 hours, so longevity seems excellent. If you are hoping for a rose fragrance, chose Cafe Rose, as Rose Prick is very, very little in terms of roses. But if you want a smoky, woody patchouli.....it's excellent!

Tom Ford never disappoints when it comes to making a unique fragrance and Rose Prick is one of them, the blend of of different roses and peppers creates something that feels out of this world. It's highly feminine, but a confident man could easily pull this off, it's not for being shy and timid. Tom Ford always has distinct notes and creates a sense of sophistication that is unrivaled by its fragrance peers and can't be truly replicated by a dupe. Rose Prick has the downside of not lasting as long as most people with about 3-4 hours of good projection and still stays on the skin in close contact. If you can get your hands on this scent either discounted or you're really just like that and buy it full price, I'd say it's worth your money. Anyone that is buying Tom Ford knows what they're getting into.

Got it on a great discount in private sale... As a male, I really love it. The rose is not overtly floral, gardenia or powdery, dusty etc. It is soft with a good spice undertone. There is also a resinous or syrupy dried fruit type of sweetness rounding everything off making it really nice. I love layering this with leather forward scents, dryer woody scents, spicy scents. Works really great in those situations. I do not get any dusty, grandmas purse type of vibe from this at all. Warmly spiced, resinous dried fruit backed rose. Also I feel that it is very much so unisex. I wouldn't have enjoyed paying full retail for this. At retail, I think its drastically over priced. But if you can get a deal around retail designer cost, I'd say its worth it.

This is another of his haunted perfumes. Decades of beautiful rose perfumes referenced. But yet modern, and aggravatingly desirable. There is a nub of pure legible rose as we understand it. Perfume-y and unforgettable like the greatest of days, almost too perfume-y. It has an incredible sillage and beautiful ghostly trail of memories. A whiff of iris and jasmine and sandalwood rose potpourri. I’ve got about 8ml of it in a bountiful decant from first release plus a sample which arrived in a forgotten order. I say aggravated, because to me it is a reference rose, and I don’t identify as a rose lover, but I need it in the collection. It’s more crimson than pink, has a touch of chocolate oud and mushroom, possibly waved the patchouli flask over it.

I took a year off from this because I thought I didn’t like it anymore, but decided to try it again today... and I’m so glad I did. The magic is in the dry down for me; a juicy, spicy, patchouli rose that isn’t overpowering. The first hour admittedly is a little aggressive for my preference, but it’s worth it for the finale (which lasts SO long). There’s a tangy fruitiness to the rose, I can’t quite pinpoint where it comes from, but it makes the rose really lush, like a rose jam. There’s brightness and smoke concurrently, zing and softness, femininity with edge. It’s not an everyday fragrance for me but it’s really exciting to wear and experience.

Pleasantly surprised by this fragrance! I tend to dislike rose scents but I received this one in my TF discovery set. I’m starting to love it. Initial spray was not great - very potent, sharp rose and peppery. I let it macerate for a month or so and came back to it. First spray in the skin is again peppery and rose but better than before; not so sharp. The rose is more realistic rather than the sickly sweet rose often used in fragrances. Like stepping outside and inhaling a blooming rose bush. It has the TF DNA that I know and love. The dry down is a subtle rose-pepper-musk that is truly unisex and beautiful.

This is so spicy and gorgeous I can’t believe the negative reviews. Grandma? I’ve never smelled a grandma like this..dusty? Nope not dusty at all, earthy and Lucious. perhaps it’s my chemistry but this smells warm to me where others say it’s a cold stinging rose. I smell the full body of the rose and the earthy quality of the patchouli. The turmeric gives it’s a savory spicy edge. Projection is mild but longevity is decent. It’s not the greatest rose fragrance I’ve ever smelled. That’s Radical Rose. But if you can get this at a decent price and you’re a rose lover do it.

Creamy-spicy-warm-ambery-rose Love at first sniff! The color of the bottle describes it well, but the label should have been gold or even better - bronze.. these colors visually clash but they well describe the notes. Luckly, there is nothing pricky about this perfume. Very elegant and rich. I will only complain about its pathetic longevity, which does not justify the eye watering price. Got a 10 ml decant in the meantime, and negotiating with myself on the 50 ml upgrade.

I discovered this perfume on a date with a very wealthy young man and he later gifted me the fragrance because I loved it so much. It was arousing on him and I have received so many compliments my self. I typically stay away from sweet scents but it is not overpowering in that regard. It has a rosey wamrth to it that is refreshing and electrifying. I love wearing this on a date or whenever I'm feeling extra sexy. Will continue to purchase once I've run out.

I don’t wear this often and every time I revisit it, I wonder why! My bottle is 4 or 5 years old so, to my nose, the Sichuan pepper doesn’t have as much bite as when I first got it. Now, it’s a softly sweetened, sophisticated rose. The rose is modern and “clean,” rather than being jammy, fruity, or “antique” smelling. This scent smells like a freshly bloomed, baby pink rose that’s wet with morning dew and a drop of nectar. Beautiful.

I have always loved rose scents. I was looking for a true rose that's strong and not powdery. I blind bought this and I really love it. I honestly don't detect any other notes. It's just straight up rose to me. I've seen reviews in which people say it is powdery, but it's not to me. I find the scent to be very calming. It lasts for a while too. I like to spray it on me before bedtime and I can still smell it on me in the morning.

I find this to be audacious. (Exactly what I like.) My observations: -I’m a sucker for a sichuan pepper note, and this one is delightful and prominent. -The rose is prominent and not covered up or overshadowed at all. -The rose varietal profiles are in equal measure. You get the new fresh bloom and the dark, rich Turkish. -Fantastic performance. You don’t need much to announce your fabulous presence. ;) -So expensive. Ugh!
