Sole di Positano

This is a really nice fragrance for men and is just lovely! I got it as a sample when I was buying my dad and brother presents for Christmas one year. Tom Ford is a good fragrance house for men, but not so much for women in my opinion. Everything they make is far too masculine for a woman to wear, apart from Tubéreuse Nue and Soleil Blanc. This fragrance is certainly masculine, but in the fresh, green and citrusy sort of way. You can smell a decent amount of non-indolic and only slightly sweet white floral notes too. I can pretty much smell all of the ingredients in here, apart from the oakmoss. The notes I can smell the most of are the bergamot, the vetiver, the neroli and the orange blossom. Neroli is definitely the most prominent note out of these. I get small whiffs of the jasmine, ylang ylang and lily-of-the-valley also. This fragrance makes me think of being in the Mediterranean in either Italy or Greece and diving into a beautiful lake surrounded by orange trees that are half covered in orange blossoms and half covered in oranges. There is lots of greenery by the lake too and this is wafting into your nose gently and serenely. It's a very serene vacation scent, if anything. Somewhat zen. Projection and sillage are moderate as well. It's slightly overpriced for what it is, but so are all Tom Ford fragrances. It's still one of the better neroli fragrances out there for sure! 8/10

One of the best Tom Ford fragrances, and I've thrown this buzz word around a few times on here, but this deserves it, too: a masterpiece of a scent (or very close to it). I've gotten many samples of it, and I think it's very addicting. As a man, I mainly just wear it around the house because it's incredibly pleasant and inviting. It's how you'd imagine the breeze in Positano, Italy to smell in late Spring or early Summer--clean and refreshing. It's a little light, and I wish it had a little longer longevity/sillage. However, it's partially those performance characteristics that make the opening so gorgeous; it adds to that light floral, citrusy, slightly soapy and green perfection. I wish there was a "Forte" version like Neroli Portofino has. I own and love Mandarino di Amalfi--another gorgeous offering. I don't think this is super similar, but it's definitely clear that they're in the same family. Mandarino di Amalfi is more easily worn by a man, and this would be the perfect match for an accompanying lady to wear. All the ones from this line are very nice, with the exception of Costa Azzurra that I like but has oud in it that can be offensive. This is the best one for the girlies for sure. Guess I'll have to get it for my girlfriend some day to match my Mandarino di Amalfi! 100% full bottle worthy. 10/10 scent, 6.8/10 longevity, 6.5/10 sillage (not overpowering) and 9/10 overall.

I have several Tom Ford fragrances. This is my favorite one. Typically Tom Ford doesn't rub me the right way. There is something about the general fragrance style of this company that isn't for me. I find many of their fragrances too loud, too weird, unusual to the point of not being pleasant to smell. My problem with Sole di Positano is its longevity, like others have mentioned here. But I think the scent itself is gorgeous. Perfect for summer and romantic, it's a carefree scent and I do find it quite unique, honestly. I knew as soon as I tested it that I really liked it and I ended up buying a full bottle. I wear the scent often. As far as projection goes, it's basically a skin scent, maybe to light projection. Another thing I like about this fragrance versus most powerhouse sillage bombs from the Tom Ford line. I think this is a really elegant perfume. I'd wear it on holidays in Monaco or the south of France/Italy/Spain. It's subtle and understated, definitely on the feminine spectrum. I think this one is really underrated, but I can understand that it is an outlier in some ways to most TF fragrances. I really like it though, and I'm totally looking forward to wearing it again once the weather warms!

This is absolutely beautiful. It's how I imagine a sexy, romantic getaway would smell. Not in the way a Caribbean vacation smells (tropical, coconut), but more like a Mediterranean vacation (citrus, neroli). It's so fresh and so clean. It's definitely unisex but I find it slightly more feminine, although I would love to smell this on my husband. It's bright and uplifting, it's warm and calming, it's fresh and crisp but in such a smooth way. I can actually smell all the notes in this one but they are all blended so beautifully. This scent makes me feel so happy and refreshed! Longevity is actually pretty good on my skin. I wore it yesterday and I could smell it on myself for about 6 hours. Mind you it's winter here in Canada right now and this definitely is more of a summer scent. I can't wait to try it on the really hot, humid days of summer. I'm wearing it again today and we're currently experiencing a big snow storm outside, yet this perfume is making me feel like I'm floating along the Mediterranean Sea with my super toned, tanned, sexy husband on our own private yacht. It's such an enjoyable scent. Rating: 8/10

I resisted buying this for so long due to the price and owning too many fragrances. But my yearning for it led me to sample other similar fragrances but nothing compares to this beauty. So beautifully blended, the fresh citrus burst melds with the white florals perfectly. But my favourite thing about Sole Di Positano is the depth of the green-ness acting as a backbone, but not positioning as a green perfume (for the record I love green fragrances). But don’t be alarmed by the fresh-green-ness, there is a beautiful softness from the white florals and I detect a tiny ozonic note to add extra interest. In my sampling, the closest I found was This Is Not A Blue Bottle 1.6 by Histoires de Parfums. But if SDP is the golden child with both beauty and brains, TINABB is more like the pretty but ditzy cousin - a little more floral and sweet but not many thoughts going on behind the eyes. Still a great runner up though.

Tried this one the other day and fell in love immediately. A clever addition to Neroli Portofino line. They shifted the focus from neroli to bergamot and added a big amount of floral notes. Thus, Sole di Positano is a perfect choice as a masculine floral; bergamot and citruses at the beginning protect it from being ultra feminine. In comparison with Neroli Portofino the Sole smells less citrusy and zesty, more sophisticated; still soapy, however, without an aftershave vibe. Simply perfect. More floral than fresh in the dry down it reminds of Jour d'Hermes and other white florals with a lemony top. Some complain about the longevity. It perfoms well on me, the way the spring/summer fragrance has to perform (I don't like heavy frags).

There are plenty fragrances suited to summer but few evoke a sense of blue skies and sunshine like this one. I say sunshine, as opposed to fruit, sea, sailing, swimming or the beach, for example. Others evoking the same sense are Givenchy's Insense (the OG), D&G's Light Blue (again, the OG) and Creed's EROLFA. Each different, but all trick my mind into reaching for the factor 50. SdiP is really beautiful, and quite light, I think its the mixture of petitgrain, citrus and florals. Still exhibiting decent performance mind. Bottles are seemingly available at only obscene prices, I now rely on decants. 4,5/5

I used to think this was just another floral aquatic from tom ford but comparing it to neroli portofino or Costa azzura I Feel this one is underrated and has a very unique blend of florals and fresh. The initial spray might be too much for some, but my favorite with this fragrance is the drydown. Its so heavenly and a different musky from neroli protofinos dry down. 10/10. A tom ford masterpiece thats not a cold weather like the other from tom fords best (Noir Extreme, Oud wood, tobacco Vanille, Tuscan leather)

Does anyone out there remember a fragrance called Hawaiian White Ginger from Avon? Well, my grandmother had a bottle in her medicine cabinet and I remember going into her bathroom and smelling it. Sole di Positano reminds me of that. It has a tropical floral scent of jasmine, orange blossom and lily of the valley on a bed of moss. Yes, there is citrus, but flowers are the main players. It is a great summer get-away fragrance. I love to wear this on the weekends in a white linen shirt and Italian loafers, ciao!

Tried this and already said ,I have Mandarino D'amalfi... Also reminds me of Le Labo Fleur D'Oranger 27 Nice. Best color bottle. Bought a falcon. I like these fragrances and they wear down beautifully for me at work. I don't mind reapplying during the day. I have had to. Also the atomizers they give you now with the flacons hold half as much as before. I am glad I stocked up on the original Nice ,repetitive in the line,will appeal to many Yes citrus citrus white flowers yum

The scent is totally rad like a day at the beach with the sun shining down on you It's got this cool mix of citrus and white floral notes that will transport you straight to the Italian coast n get this - it's just the perfume, no need for lotion or any other fancy stuff so you can smell like an ultimate chad without any extra effort. I wore this for the first time yesterday and found it to be an excellent fragrance. Perfect for summer. You can tell it's a sibling to Neroli Portofino, but a little more floral and "bright". I found the longevity to be outstanding for this type of fragrance. With 7 sprays it was still projecting after 8+ hours. Just another well done frag from Tom Ford.

Probably my favorite spring summer fragrance of all time. Wore a sample of this abroad in the Mediterranean this past year(the sample lasted so long, it’s great) and was astonished by the scent and longevity of it. I wish I could find it near me to try out to confirm my love for this. Classy and casual at the same time.

A delicious savoury fresh eau de cologne-like perfume that lasts! The shiso leaves and good dose of petitgrain are what makes it slightly different from typical summer cologne perfumes I think, and oakmoss gives it lasting power. Florals round it out nicely. Very nice, very unisex and easy-to-wear.

Absolutely lovely, bright and sunny, slightly floral citrus blended to perfection! Stays quite linear with the main focus on bittersweet citruses surrounded by naturally soft and sweet flowers gradually yielding to a smoothly green and mossy base; light projection and reasonable longevity :)

Beautiful scent. Plays out beautifully in the summer heat. Refreshing, addicting. Worth a full-bottle IMO. I am weak for anything with Neroli, and while this has less neroli than Neroli Portofino, it is still beautiful. Perfect for summer.

I love this scent because I'm a white florals fan. A beautifully well-made summery, aquatic floral scent that is a bit light...but who wants heavy beast mode fragrances in the hot weather? Whether it's worth the price is another question.

This has one of the most beautiful dry downs, but unfortunately that amazing scent doesn't last very long. This is a fragrance you would have to reapply constantly to keep it in it's wheelhouse, but it's totally worth it!

This fragrance has all the best stuff of all the Portofino collection releases. The most complete, rich and diverse of all of them. This is the perfect perfume for a Mediterranean summer place.

This smells like the June wedding of Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino and Gucci's Mémoire d'une Odeur. On the beach. With a subtle hint of sunscreen breezing through.

Sole di Positano: positively sunny. It's just so ... Tom Ford. Begrudgingly, I have to give it credit: a wonderfully classy, crisp, upmarket orangey citrus with JUST the right amount of other things to enrich and stretch the zing out into a fully rounded, intensely appealing summer scent. As you would expect from a TF Private Blend line, the zesty orange stuff is balanced just right, nicely detailed, and garlanded with enough original, florally hints and contours to make it never-blatant - and far, far away (a whole first-class luxury flight away) from cleaning products or anything like fake tartrazine-coloured "orange" junk food or fizzy drinks. There's a lovely layer of almost-buttery warmth from the ylang, and very slightly raspy/more bitter hits of oakmoss and shiso, which make it way more than simple generic ' fresh citrus spray' and grow it into a fully-fledged, all-round-appealing, perfectly unisex summer sparkler. BUT. Ugh. It's all just so ... Tom Ford. Insanely expensive for what it is, and far less original than some of the other Private Blend takes. And the longevity is far, far less impressive than the price would justify, and its bubble is tragically close to the skin (or even fabrics). There are other orange fizzers near the luxury TF compound which can give better bang for buck, and you might enjoy just as much, for fractions of the price. Not worth the label-brag value in this case I feel. If anyone else was buying: ANY TIME, BABY! But to make me spend my own hard-earned? eeeeennnhhh maybe not. (*and a disclaimer: I'm a Neroli Portofino loyalist FOR LIFE, and a genuine lover of many other TF Private Blends. To me only, this one just doesn't bat quite strongly enough to be one of the favourites.)

This is a beautiful fragrance that really does transform over time, at least on me. I initially called it far more feminine than unisex, though I’m all about wearing whatever the heck makes you happy and I have at least a dozen “male” branded fragrances that I wear unabashedly. That said, I spritzed my best male friend down with it (and a little goes a long(er) way than you’d expect. I was wrong. On him it is very much unisex - go figure. Body chemistry is a fascinating thing! I’m terrible at describing notes so I’ll just say that on me it initially seems very sweet floral, but not saccharine sweet. Later I get a bit more citrus with a creaminess to the floral and on the dry down I get a somewhat soft floral with a little zing of citrus mixed faintly in the background. It’s beautiful and could easily be a signature. On my male friend there was almost a spice to the floral versus the creaminess and a bit more citrus, and while I love citrusy scents I’m picky - no chemical household cleaner scents for me. No idea if any of this makes sense but what does make sense is wearing this! It’s a lovely, less crisp of a scent than my typical summer go to’s such as Light Blue Intense and Versace Versense, but more floral than my other TF favs like Soleil Blanc and Neroli Portofino. It’s more similar imo to NP in the style of the dry down except NP has a very clean, fresh out of the shower at the beach house scent on dry down for me. (That’s another that evolves boldly on me). Reminds me loosely of D&G Light Blue Escape to Panarea (just a little) mixed with LB Forever (getting closer) with a hint of Anna Sui Mermaid (a teensy tiny hint). But all those things, still different, and def better... 🤷♀️ it’s a good one.

There are a few words that come to mind when I think of Sole Di Positano - opulent, relaxing, and tropical. I bought this years ago simply because I got a fantastic deal, and the bottle looked really pretty to me. I’ve since only used it sparingly, but it’s an excellent perfume. It’s got this transportive quality about it where you’re immediately taken to walking a tiny path by the beach on a summer’s day on an island, while wearing a relaxed-fit button-up white shirt with shorts and a straw hat on. Neroli, Orange Blossom, Jasmine, and Ylang-Ylang are the standout notes, and this fragrance is outright and unapologetically floral. The ingredients used are of very high quality, and it feels like the fragrance would be something you may come across in nature, on the aforementioned imaginary island on a warm summer’s day. This is a mood-lifting fragrance and could really make you feel like a million bucks on a hot, sunny day. Despite the complaints, I get very good longevity out of this on my skin. I detect this for about 7 hours, and the projection is consistently moderate throughout. My bottle bears the batch AA7. While I will say it leans quite a bit feminine, it certainly is unisex. Men who are very confident in themselves and their masculinity can easily pull this off, while women can pull this off effortlessly. This was made for warm weathers only, and especially for relaxed dates, vacations, and so on. You could perhaps use it in the office, but why would you want to? This is a scent that, in my opinion, was made to enjoy in a personal space on special days.

Here’s a summary on the citrus issue: Sole seems to be the best contemporary option because Mandarino is too obvious and sweet, Neroli is too similar to 4711, and most modern takes are blind and short-lived. Acqua Viva is okay, as is Eau de Yuzu by Nicolai, but they all become dull quickly. There’s also Pomelo Riviera and Grapefruit by Malone—these serve as alternatives moving away from basic lemoniness. After smelling all these, one concludes that the best remain Dior Cologne or Mugler Cologne. So, all of these still don’t quite hit the mark. Acqua di Gio, Dior Eau Sauvage, and Chanel Monsieur are all too creamy and dated. Something original seemed to be present in Heeley’s Lemons or even their Yuzu. Some Hermes flankers are pleasant, as are select pricier “Colognes.” Cristalle Eau Verte is good. Among all this, Sole di Positano seems to be the best—noble, deep, unexpected, light, and beautiful. This requires further verification, but that’s the impression. Then comes the category of citrus fougère: besides the ones mentioned earlier, Armani ph, Monsieur de Givenchy, YSL ph, Chanel Boy, Rive Gauche, Habit Rouge. Here, I think the best is YSL.

Well, it's cute and pretty, but also totally an unnecessary addition to the Private Blend family. It's a short-lived floral citrus that straddles the line between eau de cologne and laundry detergent. I get get a sweet citrus with bitter zing enveloped by sweet wafts of jasmine/ylang ylang á la Jasmin Rouge. It doesn't develop much and just gets weaker and lighter the moment you spray it. Talk of oak moss, lily of the valley and shiso feel like a delusional stretch. It's almost like a blend of Mandarino di Amalfi and Jasmin Rouge now that I think of it. I would like this, but in the context of Tom Ford, it's weak and dull. With Fleur de Portofino in the line, this was completely unneeded as Sole di Postiano does the same job but much worse. I guess at least the SdP bottle is the prettiest in the line. It's quite sad to see the gorgeous Oud Fleur and sumptuous Ombré Leather get discontinued to make room for such mediocrity. I think it's time for Tom to take a vacation and go back to the drawing board.

This is a great scent. It's well-blended, soft and fresh. But I have smelled this before. It has its slight differences (a more pronounced bitter orange, and the addition of shiso and LOTV), but this could be many white floral/orange combos that already exist. Would I take a bottle if it was given to me? Absolutely. But I'm not keen on buying one myself. If you have yet to find your perfect scent within the realm of white floral citrus, try it. If you already have one you love, this is probably redundant. Also, this has unfortunately poor longevity. EDIT: This one is growing on me the more I wear it! A pity it has poor longevity and a high price tag or I might actually go buy it!

Fragrances don’t have a built-in gender. In ancient times men used to bathe in rosewater and lillies. In modern times, men typically use flower-scented creams and soaps that leave a scent behind, and nobody thinks about it. If you’re a man, have you not washed yourself with Dove from time to time, or applied Avon Skin-So-Soft, or washed your hair with Salon Selectives because it was in the shower and belonged to either your girlfriend, wife, or mom? This scent is amazingly fresh and light. It feels like reclining in the sun in an orange grove amid millions of blossoms. Scent: 10/10 Longevity: 4 hours Sillage: arm’s length

I have a 10ml decant of this. From first spray, it is captivating. It made me feel alive and invigorated. The white flowers, particularly neroli stand out from the start. The bitter orange provides a delicious citrus undertone. I can see how this could be truely unisex. It only lasted 3 to 4 hours before it was gone as a skin scent. So, unfortunately longevity is not great at this price point, but this is lovely to wear if you can afford to respray throughout the day!

Though many may think that after having Fleur de Portofino this perfume is obsolete, I do enjoy layering the two together. It does give me lots of satisfaction, much more so that spray just one or the other. If you just happened to have both like me, do give it a try. I do hope that you, like me, enjoy the result.

It's a little better than Neroli Portofino, I like the sweetness of the white flowers which softens the lemon and makes this perfume more sweet than Neroli Portofino which smells straight like lemon. But the price is too high, there is nothing unique in this scent.

greener, more citric and less sweet fleur de portofino as usual, amazing, gorgeously realistic smell but awful, almost non-existent longevity here's to hoping I have the funds to purchase one of the TF blue line and respray every two hours or so like its water.

Great uplifting scent for warm weather days. Clean, bright citrus accords that evokes happiness and peace. If you can afford it, own it. You will find the scent has a place in your daily life.

Radiant, cheerful and refreshing. How can one dislike such a pretty fragrance? There are some similarities to Fleur de Portofino, which revolves around a more prominent floral accord. 7.5/10

This is a very floral fragrance. I get reminded of 1872 Clive Christian, maybe it's the neroli and jasmine combo along with citruses. Performance is not bad for this style of fragrance.

The opening is amazing, with minty and citrusy notes. But after one hour It becomes sopy and dry on my skin. I still love the perfume though

Bursts of bitter oranges and bergamot are squeezed over ample doses of jasmine and neroli. It is certainly not the "citrus" fragrance that TF markets it as - or at least not on me. The florals are the star and take up the entire stage. The marketing and/or visionary misses aside, this is still a good floral fragrance. It's certainly not special or unique, but the accords are photorealistic and they are singing at loud but crystal-clear volumes. "Positano Sun" doesn't put me in mind of walking through floral gardens in the bright and warm Positano sun; its temperature is too cold and a bit too sweet for that. But if I were to smell a bouquet of Positano jasmine and neroli in the indoor coolness of a Positano villa, I'm sure it would smell something like this.

I prefer Mandarino di Amalfi. This is just...alright 5/10

A lack lustre release from Tom Ford. Sure, it is a beautiful citrus based fragrance that does evoke Southern Italy on a warm, sunny day, but it has been done a thousand times before. I thought the shiso might add an extra dimension, but I can't smell it, at all. Strength, like most citrus heavy scents, is moderate to low. Sillage is low. At this price point I'm looking for unique, interesting, multi dimensional scents - not a linear, citrus one. So it is a pass for me.

I think it's quite pretty and fragrant and very pleasant. But I can't wear it because for me, it is WAY too feminine, in the way that evokes memories of the women in my life, and as a dude, for me, that's a no. I can't pull this off comfortably at all. I do wear other unisexual scents and I always like to try them, so this was a sample blind buy for me. I gave it to a dear lady friend.

I expected more. But this is basically an expensive version of Avon Percieve woman perfume. Avon 100% copied this and last longer. And I really dislike this, it is pufff-gone after you sprayed it. I bought this to my husband as a Christmas gift and I hope his skin chemistry or something works different.

A very “old woman” like scent, the white floral is not attractive or flattering at all, smells a bit like cat pee after a few hours! Don’t buy it if you’re looking for an orangytangy scent; it’s not that at all :/

An aquatic, lightly bitter citrus. A citrus for a cold days breeze. The citrus is in the opening are of the peel variety. Biting oils rather than the juicy sweet from the inside. I like lemon and orange kept in check by orange blossoms pull. He comes pretty quickly though. It isn't as lively as Neroli Portofino, or as woody as Costa Azzura. Imagery is always a big part of fragrance pitches. I've certainly not been to the location this fragrance references, but regardless I'm transported in my own way. I'll try to connect it to a reality that we regular folks. possibly share. You go to the beach in off season (not the peak of summer) and let's say it's in the high 60s (15.5 Celsius.) The water is cold but you took this trip to the beach so you're going to get in the damn water. You force yourself to submerge. It's colder than you wanted but it invigorates the body and wakes you up. You walked back to your towel and choose not to dry off with it, but to let the now much warmer feeling Sun dry you naturally. The breeze gives you bumps, so you close your eyes and bask in the light. The wind wrestles the coastal citrus trees and flowers. Ok, I've begun to exaggerate. You listen in total contentment. This is where Sole Di Positano lives. A bracing burst of citrus to pep up your step, then the breezy florals on an aquatic wind to find your peace. I want to reemphasize a cold citrus because that doesn't usually pop into my mind. Overall this fragrance is a brief affair. The opening citruses fade fast and the fragrance transition into the dry down happens quickly. Sole spends most of its time in a subtle skin scent stage. A de-spiced Jasmine and Moss that is mentioned in the note listing. It's as if you smelled your slightly salty skin with wisps of neroli an hour after your adventure. If you aren't at the beach, you know those iguanas that sit on top of coastal cliffs with their eyes closed while the ocean splashes below them? You are the iguana.
