Tom Ford for Men

Tom Ford For Men was certainly quite a surprise with how the brand launched its feminine perfume line with Black Orchid. To release a very understated classic-masculine-type scent after giving us that banshee wail in the feminine line was a head-scratcher. But the original Private Blends lineup that came out the same year more or less informed us that maybe For Men was a bit of an aside. Perhaps this was simply something Mr. Ford really wanted to have, either for himself or to be able to finally check-off of his list a perfume he had been wanting to make. Regardless, Black Orchid, this, and the Private Blend lineup created a broad palette of fragrances that stated Mr. Ford was taking perfume creation for his brand very seriously. For Men has been a cool weather staple of mine to this day very nearly since the year it was released (thanks to backup bottles) and is one of my favorites to have come from the brand. Bergamot and orange open the perfume and are immediately joined by massive amounts of parched green herbs. There is a lot of thyme, some rosemary, and something a bit herbal lemony like verbena. There is no moisture or sweetness to this at all; it is dry, bitter, and bracing. Next up is a layer of very gentle florals tying to the orange-like note from the top. This could be either orange blossom or neroli, or maybe both, but it’s hard to tell because of how much it overlaps with what seems to be a very dry, citrusy, and resinous cypress type note that's been pulverized into powder. Edgy and metallic like neroli, but something vaguely soft like orange blossom, and citrusy resinous. The piquant and spicy qualities continue here as well, further complicating note detection. It’s a very pleasant and classically masculine melange, if a bit nondescript. The final skin scent is gently mossy and woody vetiver forward, with plenty of peppery cedar in the form of iso e super to boot, and wisps of dry patchouli. This works almost like snapshots stitched together of some of modern masculine perfumery's stylistic inflection points in its timeline, as if we went from the 40s/50s or so at the start through to the 60s and 70s and fast-forwarded all the way to the 00s predominant use of synthetics for woody bases. Yet it’s very quiet and restrained, with barely any projection or sillage, but as an excellent retro masculine skin scent it will last for most of the day and it will also be quiet memorable for those that get up close and personal. For Men is not a statement so much as it tries to be a part of your person; very comfortable, very wearable, with just a bit of a modern edge to make it striking. Perhaps this is not as head-scratching as I made it seem, since we know Tom Ford's fragrances very frequently hark back to Mr. Ford’s favorite perfume genres of yesteryear, but that For Men does so without caring if you notice - which is not a characteristic of the majority of modern masculines, little alone the masculines of the 70s that inspired it - imparts a quiet but established confidence in personal taste and style that men very rarely get from fragrances designed for them. A man who knows what he likes, what he wants to smell of, and doesn't give a damn if you notice until he invites your nose to his collar.

The epitome of classy, understated (and a bit old-school) refinement, elegance, and class. Tom Ford for Men is a gingery, peppery fresh fragrance that is given depth with tobacco leaf, leather and patchouli. There is such a great progression to this fragrance on skin. It starts with a blast of citrus and ginger, then dries down to a peppery and woody heart, and then the leather notes come out with a long creamy finish. It's like sitting in a well-maintained leather armchair in a Frank Lloyd Wright home. People hate on this fragrance because of its "performance". The longevity is 2-3 hours, sillage is moderate, and you won't be choking people out unless you overspray it. I would say, for a fresh men's fragrance that is supposed to be "For Men" (quite a generic name) this is a good entry point into Tom Ford's men's fragrances. Very inoffensive, fresh, and accessible. That's what its use-case was! After a few hours it's gone; it doesn't overstay its welcome. Not every frag needs to be beast mode, projection monster, choke people out in the next town type nuclear juice that gets you branded "that Cologne Guy". Too many people will pass on this because reviewers said that it "lacked performance" or the "projection is awful". Tell me: Should a man wear a fragrance or should a fragrance wear a man? Should a man be judged by his actions, words and deeds, or by the type of aromatic chemicals he puts on his skin? Should a fragrance compliment a man's style, or should it choke people out? "Choke them out! Choke them out!" I already hear the pitchforks coming out, the villagers are angry. How dare you! Heresy! Heresy! Tom Ford for Men is a refined, classy, understated and refined scent for a gentleman who wants to add to his presence by using a fragrance, and not be defined by it. 9.5/10 Snifftacular!

This one was a victim of unrealistic expectations i think. Like the expression "the book was better" i hear walking out of the movies. As if comparing a cup to a plate,but i digress. Masculine,reasonable price and an entertaining development. I could not stand extreme which only shares the bottle.Unfortunately extreme had truffles and not the chocolate kind but the ones they dig out of the ground.(see review) This is not what i would call a sweet fragrance. Lemon oil is up front than the elements begin to coalesce into a new fragrance.tobacco,and musk,beautiful drydown. Many women i know prefer a guy to smell like a guy instead of a bowl of strawberries & cream. While i consider their opinions i dont honestly give a rat's ass what anybody else thinks of it.Since i love this. I dont see how anybody thinks its feminine. Girl smells like this and i will have questions. Longevity was acceptable.Versatile. Just go easy on the trigger as it is somewhat 70s style. If its generic why doesnt anybody name something that smells very similar? The after shave balm of this scent opens much better to my nose.Pity is i cannot find it anymore. Wish they could get the aftershave opening into the edt bottle. I like most of this house's fragrances and even what i do not like i can appreciate on some level.Thank you Mr. Ford! Please do not reformulated this.There are so few I love .

Lets not forget theres Lemon Leaf Oil & Mandarin Orange on its initial opening. So when we're testing & constantly smelling this frag up close looking to pick up the other notes it should be expected to go nose blind to the citrus. For me TF For Men is a Summer Night fragrance for small events. I spray my skin as well as clothes & I get good performance for the 6 hours I'm out. My body heat keeps it activated & subtle winds carry it to noses. For example I wore this fragrance to a friends Yacht Party. We all drank, danced & were fairly sweaty in the evening Sun. I couldnt smell the fragrance at all. However, my wife said that she could smell me the entire time. But then, at night it cooled down a bit, & we got this subtle breeze, & I could smell the fragrance again. And thats when I started to receive compliments on it. This same friend throws backyard parties & invites Local Bands out to perform. I wore TF For Men again, & this time I got better performance in the yard than I did on the Yacht. I literally smelled the fragrance the entire night we were out. And again, received compliments. So dont count TF For Men out on performance. You just need to figure out the best weather condition to wear this fragrance in. And for me its Summer Nights where theres a very subtle breeze. Dont forget To Spray Your Clothes......

Spectacular scent that despite its struggles in performance remains one of my favorite summer fragrances. Very similar to the L'Homme Ideal EDT, falling more on the fresh side while the Guerlain falls more on the sweet side - but the two have several similar accords in common. Vera Wang for Men comes the closest to this IMO. It's scent structure feels less complex but at a distance I'd struggle to differentiate them. And it would have to be pretty soon after application as they both convert to skin scents pretty quicky and both are barely traces after more than three to four hours. Both feel very, very light (almost ephemeral), and the trade-off for that airy beauty is performance. I am okay with these citrus-heavy EDTs that perform essentially as classic colognes, it actually works for my habit of applying something after I get home from work, and in these cases it means I can pretty much choose anything without having to take the remnants of my morning fragrance into account - and the bottom line is this: warm-weather fragrances just are made from more delicate aromas and on average are going to be gone sooner than their cool weather counterparts. That being said I do like to make the Extreme flanker my evening application after this one - it's just so insanely delicious.

Ginger note reminds me of a softer version of ginger in Apres la Mousson. Round, buttery, not bitingly citric or peppery. Mature, clean, and sexy. Truly sexy scents are not overly loud. Most females do not actually want to get close to that. And I mostly don't want to be close to it either. Scent and longevity matter much more to me than projection. Is this not projecting enough for you? Wear it in hotter weather. This is not a barbershop fragrance but it is a fragrance that I like wearing to the barber. This does remind me of a (nicer) warm weather version of D&G The One. Even more so it reminds me (although it has been almost a quarter of a century since I smelled it!) of the original A&F Woods which was one of my favorite first fragrances that I ever had! It makes me feel the same way that used to. The 1.7 oz is slim and does travel easily. Smells like the boss. Calm and peaceful yet powerful and authoritative. (+1 Men Extreme is one of my favorite fragrances of all time. They give a similar feeling but do not have much of a shared scent profile. I recently suggested that if one owned only 2 fragrance for the entire year, Dior Homme and Dior Homme Cologne would be an excellent option. At least equally so would be Tom Ford Men and Tom Ford Men Extreme)

Very likeable, but not an average mass "for men" scent. I don't think anyone would dislike it. I have to say, I'm not into lemon or citruses at all. I avoid bergamot notes as well, but the lemon / ginger mix in this one is really nice. It opens up with fresh lemons and ginger (it doesn't smell like detergent thankfully), and it kind of stays that all the way, but in the drydown the tobacco and the amber becomes more prominent. Performance is not very good, it becomes a skin scent very quick, and after 5-6 hours it is almost unnoticeable, so you kind of have to carry around the bottle if you want it to last all day. On the other hand this is very good for work, because even though it's unique, it won't offend anyone. This is an autumn lemon scent, but I think you can get away with it in hot weather too. Not specifically a date scent, but again it's likeable, so you can wear it for a date too. Occasion: business / business casual / smart every-day Modern / old skool: mixture of the two Mass appealing: 9/10 Art (Genius factor): 6/10 Projection: 4/10 Performance: 4/10 Weather: All Season Personal score: 8/10 (If the performance is better, I would give it a 10/10)

To the reviewer below me (TeeEm), I know exactly what you're talking about, I went through the same thing, but I've been wearing this to work and I've found that it's become one of my favorites for indoors. If I apply at work (indoors) a few sprays and reapply one spray or so every 3-4 hours then it works amazingly without choking anyone out, and as you mentioned in your review, it smells fantastic. I get the most enthusiastic compliments with this, women love it, as they should, I love it. And because the bottle (50ml) is beautiful and sleek and light to carry I don't mind bringing it along. Don't get frustrated and sell or give away your bottle. It may become your fav like it became mine. It's a killer date scent too. It also smells better as the juice gets time to aerate. P.S. I would never recommend this to young men, not because it smells dated, but because it's too mild of experience I think for young noses.

I'll agree with ATH on his video for the performance of TF for men. It has a weak performance but I reckon it's performance similarly on par with some of Creed's weaker performance juices. I put it to test this morning at 0920am. It is essentially a skin scent about 2 hours later. It is not 5-10 minutes according to ATH but from the vid it seems he based it on a spray or two on his right hand. I did easily 3 sprays on forehand, 2 on wrist and 2 on the inner elbow area. I'll just say it's a typical 80s classic aromatic scent profile. The rest of the details are what ATH mentioned for notes and stuff. TF for men hardly projects and sits on skin and I'll say it's a self pleasuring scent. Not worth the price as there are similar old school fragrances dating and smelling similar during the 80s 90s that are cheapies now.

Tom Ford for Men is a very well done fragrance.. It has a very classic masculine vibe but it still smells fresh and modern.. Tom Ford for Men opens up with a lot of fresh citrus notes along with some ginger and some herbal nuances.. The heart adds some pepper, a very nice tobacco, and a touch of orange blossom.. Tom Ford for Men dries down to a woody base, with some patchouli, oakmoss, and a touch of amber.. There is a lot going on in Tom Ford for Men but it still manages to smell light, pleasant, and yet very masculine.. This is a great versatile fragrance which can work anytime, anywhere, and in any season.. I don't think this fragrance gets nearly enough attention as it deserves which is sad because Tom Ford for Men really is a great quality fragrance that is definitely signature scent worthy..

This is a very peculiar fragrance that is vastly misunderstood. I have come across thousands of fragrances, but this one performs quite differently. If you plan on wearing this fragrance, it is an absolute must that you intend to be out in a warm environment where your body heat will increase. It's unfortunate, but the one wearing this fragrance usually goes anosmic to it, but rest assured the scent is still there as you move around this aroma will gently swirl off you and provide a nice, intimate bubble. If it's winter or you are going to be in a cool, mild temperature then forget about it. Spectacular fragrance and is a wonderful choice for those who want a charming, yet mild-mannered scent.

Im a huge fan of spicy masculine fragrances, this is no exception. Ginger is the star with citrus, tobacco, fresh green herb and amber being the supports. Fresh, spicy and has some depth. Performance isnt amazing, but I still love wearing it and it does a good job on clothing. Masculine at its best with enough going on that its perfect for all occasions. If they ever released this as a private blend or redid it similar to beau de jour and increased performance it would become a best seller again. You really cant go wrong with this scent. This looks to be discontinued or shortage of supply? Cant find on Tom Ford's US website plus most grey markets are out of stock atm.

I am not Tobacco Vanille or Tuscan Leather guy... Actually i don't like this house at all, but this is the only TF i like it since 2009. So sexy, timeless classic, manly, woody/fresh. Like a "Joker" perfume, can be wear anytime anywhere, no matter of occasions or weather conditions, basically you can't go wrong with this. Smell of the "modern" man. Today i heard is discnontinued, and i can understand it, we are living in 2023, nobody really appreciate such a classic scents anymore, today's guys often use to wear a sweet awfully gourmands, even girls love man's to smell on fu***** killian. I just can't get what's the deal with it? Everything is going to hell.

I remember when this first came out, people were saying bad things about it. That it’s not unique and smells cheap and weak, but man come on this is so classy and alluring scent, people didn’t know that Tom Ford wanted it to be a classy signature scent. Not too strong that can be used all year around, high quality and full of charisma. Having this bottle nowadays can tell how good this fragrance is. It’s better than all designers men’s fragrances in the market right now easily. If they bring it back again with the extreme version they will hit the market so hard and people will go crazy to buy them. I love them both so much sadly discontinued.

Guys this one is a Masterpiece. One of Best cologne I ever smelled, so Masculine, so powerful, yet subtle. Some says it's safe, but this is a cologne a powerful man would wear, who does not need to show off, so confident. mature, yet modern. Every men must have this. Your life is incomplete without this, yes you Sir, note it Projection and Longevity is GOOD, not beast mode, but I would not buy it, if it projected more. which will make you an attention seeker wannabe, but this is just PERFECT. Real Wolves of Wall Street would wear this cologne. Top Man Tom Ford, Well done Sir, you deserve all the glory.

I have been interested in this scent for a long time.. The warm weather is coming and I want a fragrance that is fresh but interesting enough to keep my attention and that is what Tom Ford for Men does for me.. I got a little sample from sephora and wore it for the first time.. It was cold out so it was hard to smell through the cold air, but the few whiffs that I did pick up on smelled amazing! This is a modern take on a classic vintage men's EDC.. Citrusy, herbal, tobacco, it just smells great.. Love it! I will experiment more with this guy..

I managed to get a bottle of this a few weeks ago. This is "middle-aged gentleman freshness" in a bottle if it were the early 2010's. It somehow makes me think of my late father, and I'm going to savour every spray I ever take as if it were the last. The citruses and ginger is perfectly blended, making it pop out so much more. It develops beautifully over time, the woods and spices in the heart and base keeps it ever evolving. If you ever get the chance to smell this, please do. It's very easy to wear, and could be an absolute everyday scent.

Decent fragrance! Nice Tobacco, ginger, spicy citrus and herbal fragrance. It's not a complex fragrance and a very linear one with some development mostly for the violet note. Pretty mature fragrance. I do not want to stereotype this fragrance but I associate this fragrance with the Latino community. I think it give an interesting spicy vibe to it. Versatile yes, Office,dates, casual and formal wear in spring summer and fall in the days. decent longevity 5 hrs and fair projection. so 7.5/10 Try berfore buy, might not please to everyone

I love this stuff. I wasn't sure about it initially. It presents as an old school classic Old Spice style scent, but I feel like this is the best possible version of it. It opens with a blast of classic lemon and violet, which dissipates fairly quickly into the spicy gently floral mid. This right here is what sets it apart for me. Rose and lavender generally aren't my thing, but this right here is perfect. The dry down stays close to the skin, and it's not a huge performer, but it lasts the work day just fine.

So good, has some winter-y notes and some fresher ones, which makes it very versatile. I think if i buy this one (i hope to soon) it could become my signature. I love tobacco as a note but usually find it presented in such a heavy way that even during the winter I can't wear it because i'm indoors all day. This could work well both indoors and outside in the cold (or not cold, just not hot summer days). Fresh gingery/Citrusy tobacco with some amber, good quality for the discounter price, solid longevity. 9/10

This is my second take on this fragrance. Quite strangely this one is the most complimented fragrance from my collection, it even gets more compliments (mostly from women) than Pure Malt. I think the reason is because it smells very "manly"...and indeed. This one is like a modern interpretation of the manliest colognes that our fathers and folks used to wear. You get some tobacco, amber, vetiver and pepper mixed in a very nice way. It might not be the best from the TF line, but really deserves a try.

Maybe someone wore this when I was growing up as this this is just how I expect a man's fragrance to smell. For me, it's pretty much perfect, fresh yet warm, complex and beautifully blended. I had no idea it had been discontinued until I saw it on here today. I'd agree with other reviews that it stays fairly close to the skin but longevity for me is excellent. I did one spray on the back of my hand yesterday morning as soon as got out of the shower and I can still smell it the next morning.

A nice fresh scent unlike anything else yet has a similar vibe to many such as Gio but very different. Nothing like Elysium which turns very woody from a strong citrus blast, or The one which is very creamy, this is just Ginger and woodsy tobaccoish but very fresh the natural citruses evaporate leaving a subtle ginger scent. Its very unique yet people like to compare it to many others that only have similar vibes yet very different aromas. Good for office or summer days just casual use.

My experience seems to match the other reviews; I didn't appreciate this so much in the store on the test strip, but this morning I sprayed some of my sample on me and I even like the opening, with the burst of fresh ginger and juicy orange. I do also agree with the other reviews in that it seems to dissipate quite quickly (maybe even faster than Beau de Jour EdP from the signature collection) which is a shame because I really like the actual scent.

Such a classy piece of art, performance and sillage are not bad at all actually, definitely on the mature side, mandarin, ginger, and pepper are the most prominent notes, it stands out from all other Tom Ford fragrances just like Tom Ford Noir does, if you have this one as your Summer/Spring scent and Noir as your Fall/Winter scent you will smell amazing year round. I got lucky finding this gem for a bargain, alreading looking for another one😊

Both classic and modern at the same time. I agree with reviewer below comparing this to lidge. They are similar in some ways. However, TF has a fresher profile. People complaining about longevity, but on my skin it is quite strong and long lasting. Maybe TF has improved the longevity in the new bottles? I remember trying it a couple of years ago and it was weak, but now the huice is potent! Very nice classical dumb-reach for office wear.

An example of a lemon fragrance done right. A lemon and ginger scent with spicy nuances. Reminds me a little of the lemon in Guerlain's LIDG. Classy, ideal for all ages and can be worn in transition from day to night. The main problem is, as quoted by other reviewers: performance. Longevity is only a few hours, projection is skin scent. If you don't mind reapplying, then you can't go far wrong with this classy, sophisticated fragrance.

Woow this scent really is beautiful. The citrusy notes are quite dominant but not sharp. It is well balanced and doesn't induce pain in my nostrils which many other sharp citrusy scents do. A really good summer-night scent. Not for the warmer summer-days though! The projection and longevity are poor but acceptable. A safe scent I would say. Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 6/10 Projection: 6/10

Phenomenal scent, just wish it would last longer. On the initial spray there is a distinct fresh citrus smell, reminiscent of a twang of sweet orange peel. This initial fragrance gently fades to reveal a sweet and beautiful floral smell, wrapped in layers of spice. Brilliant smell, only noticeable to others for an hour on my skin. Still lovely as a foundation scent.

Best Tom Ford because of it's versatility! old school vibe. all season fragrance for the guy over 30. This is for the guy that owns only one fragrance, and wants to portray that classy mature vibe. I'm a big Ombre Leather fan, but if I could only own one fragrance by Tom Ford, this would be it. VERSATILITY is the key term to describe this fragrance. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Love this one! Doesn't project that much, but not every fragrance should be attacking. It's decent and perfect for e.g an office environment. If you don't care about projection, and want to feel fresh and good about yourself, blind buy this one. I really love the combination of ingredients here! For me, besides the projection, a pure 10/10.

I enjoy this one a lot, and I think it’s worth taking time to find it. With that being said, there is a downside to this fragrance, and it’s the performance. It is rather weak and the fragrance itself is very fleeting. However, it is still worth picking up and having in your collection. Because it’s that good in my opinion. Nicely done TF.

Tom Ford for Men is THE perfect office fragrance. A fragrance only I can smell and no one else. The first spray is ginger with citrus, very nice. The dry down is soft tobacco/citrus/spicy. I have to agree it is not, by all means, a power bomb of a fragrance. It does not project very well, but the important thing is that I can smell it.

Using this one recent days as office scent. pretty good. really advised to have this. works in every climate, safe, rich, self confident, this what i feel when wearing :-) really. happy to decided to purchase, and wearing... Tom Ford so far makes me happy (along the grey vetiver what is fenomenously well blended high quality perfume).

It’s a classic and a must have for collectors and enthusiasts. When I was in Philly getting a haircut and beard trim the barber used this on me as an aftershave of types.......it made me like it more as I could now understand this as a “barbershop” scent. You really can’t hate on this one. If you do, just come back to it later!

I have the parfum variant and it does last but not as long as the Invictus parfum. My skin chemistry is on the dry side. Cold and dry weather affects it unfortunately. I wear it sparingly as it's cons is the price. I like it a lot and hoping for a duty free sale soon I'm getting another bottle.

Perfect warm, nice longevity and pure tobacco. Its not synthetic, its not boring.. Maybe not perfect sillage but longevity overnice. I recommended to for all men about look for masculen hot perfume. These kinds objects like this make me love winter. Scent: 9,5/10 Long: 9/10 Sillage:6/10

Just 4.07? Do people automatically vote with a lower grade because it's a Tom Ford and the expectations are high? This is an easy 10/10 for me and in my top 10 for sure. Extremely versatile, high quality, good sillage. I like Dvntex_'s review below - summarized my thoughts as well.

The scent is very, very good. Definitely masculine. I love this scent. The downsides are very poor longevity and sillage. After 2 hours it is nearly gone from my skin. I wish it lasted longer because the scent is amazing.

Great cologne surprisingly in my top 10 its great can wear this anytime even better for a date night just has that masculine sophisticated yet casual smell definitely for someone imo 30s and up a more mature smell

Very "manly" scent as far as citrus' go. I'm normally not a fresh/citrus fan, but feel like this is sufficiently classy to pass as a go-to citrusy scent whenever in that mood. Performance isn't that great though.

This is a close to the skin scent. For men that don't have the need to make noise. This is a 100% masculine scent. Not many 100% masculine scents in the market. Also, a sexy smell. An all time favorite.

Wow this is good. Spicy, citrus alpha Male fragrance. It would definitely be a head turner and a great, versatile signature scent. Something about this fragrance reminds me of luxury vacations.

Smells like citrus sex. It's not much for longevity, at least on my skin,but makes a great scent to throw on to run some quick errands. Classy scent.

Smells like opening a can of ginger ale. Bright and sweet. Dries down pleasantly. Lasts a reasonable amount of time for the price. Will buy again.

I don’t know why people don’t compare this to Dolce and Gabbana The One, they are so similar with the same vibes but D&G is a bit sweeter.

I don't have what seems to be the typical experience with this one - it consistently lasts as a skin scent 12+ hrs for me 🤔👍 smells great

beautiful spring version of D&G The One, but you have to keep the bottle with you, because the longevity of this smell is a disaster :(
