Violet Blonde

Violet Blonde is for sure quite like nothing I’ve smelt before. I get very little mandarin tartness in the opening with a lot of pink pepper and violet leaf. The composition feels more orris and iris centric rather than violet and it’s the dry, slightly earthy, dusty type of orris rather than buttery—the perfume smells like a combination of bougie makeup powders and perhaps some scented foundation were spoiled and crushed inside a plush suede cosmetics bag... along with an essence of kohl pencil eyeliner/lip liner scent, like waxy pencil shavings but ever so soft, just underpinning that cosmetic feel. You can imagine the horror and the absolute mess but the perfume is NOT that. It’s gorgeous, powdery, smooth suede with that Tom Ford signature vein running through. I do feel the refreshing ozonic edge and aquatic nuances of this perfume coming through which I find is amplified in cool breezes and you catch wafts of it especially on cloth which is unusual, it gives me an upmarket scented sun tan lotion kind of texture when this occurs, but in no way beachy coconut, tropical—kinda hard to describe. It has a vintage cosmetic feel and definitely one of the most unique Tom Ford offerings I’ve come by, I don’t usually gravitate towards TF fragrances, my favourites amongst the discontinued (Sahara Noir, Plum Japonais, Lys Fume) but I remember smelling this a while ago and never got a bottle before they ceased its production—bummer. I managed to snag a 100ml bottle for a great price on Vinted, kept in storage and the juice is a gorgeous orange colour, the benzoin has definitely deepened up which makes the dry down delectable and lends a gentle balsamic sweetness. I can’t stop using this lately I am really enjoying it. Lasts for a week solid on clothes perhaps longer and around 6-8 hours on skin. I’m going to have to calm down spraying my bottle because the prices for this one on eBay etc are jacked up to fugg so 🫠 I find it to be unisex leaning femme

After I got a sample of this and smelled it for the first time I fell in love with it immediately. I opened straight away the package of it - it was just waiting if I would love it or not. Personally I love more Tom Ford’s perfumes in Signature line than in Private line. I don’t know why but they feels more special to me. This is an amazing high quality scent, it’s very different than all other Iris / Violet scent’s which I have. It’s an elegance in the bottle. It’s a little bit vintage style but not in a soapy way and it’s not so “dry” powdery. it’s very cozy, soft and warm but in the same time it’s very unique and romantic. Benzoin makes it different from other warmer Iris scents and I love the way it does it warm without Vanilla like sweetness. Violet is there but the name is misleading imo since Iris and Orris are more dominant - together with Jasmine they make an irresistible core for this scent. Musk and Suede in the base make it not only so cozy but very very sensual as well. Concoction is somewhat full of contrasts. I don’t get any ozonic or aquatic which are included in accords here in Fragrantica. This scent was released 2011 and was discontinued only 5 years later. I don’t know if it was too special or too old fashioned as a designer scent or if the reason was the name but so sad that this kind of creation is not produced anymore. PHENOMENAL !! SIZZLING !! ELEGANT !! This just had to be reviewed again, As a day or two ago I moaned a tad about lasting power and a note I at first felt I disliked,boy oh boy was I wrong. ( Lesson to myself don't review anything too fast :) This is the most addictive and precious fragrance ever ! I'm in love with you violet Blonde you sweet musky minx ! This is the most beautiful pretty and different mix of stunning notes ever, a muted violet and crisp violet leaf blooms first, tingling on skin,then warm powdery iris surounds the initial burst,soon a more buttery orris absolue mixes in with a dusting of perfect sweetness from the benzoin ( my favorite note). A touch of spiceyness amps up the florals.Sexy musky notes complete everything! This is a little bit of heaven, and no it doesn't last as long as I'd like it to but I can't say I'm that bothered ( well it does work out expensive I guess) I've used 12 ml of my bottle in less than 2 days as the middle notes purr and leave me wanting more more more :) I've been spraying & sniffing my wrists every hour for those seductive mid notes ! There's just enough florals, just enough dusty sweetness, just enough powder & musk & velvetyness. I never want to be without this amazing perfume ever, VB just flew past the diors and chanels to first place on my most loved section of fragrances. So adorable and unique , how on Earth was this axed ?? Tom Ford please bring out a extreme version of this equisite and heartbreakingly pretty perfume! The man from Delmonte he say YES YES YES :) 11/10 If you love Prada candy or infusion d iris absolute this may be one you get all dreamy over too :)

Now this has been an interesting one.. when I first tested this I thought, "yuuuck!" nothing but overwhelming, dry, dry powder! Completely dismissed it as another overbearing TF monster. While searching for some new fragrances at Nordstrom, this was on prominent display with a nearly empty tester bottle. So I tried it again, thinking I must be crazy. Again, dry and powdery but also something very subtle I hadn't picked up on my first time.. the florals. Fresh and airy, just my type. Jasmine? Natural smelling jasmine, at that. I absolutely loathe synthetic white flowers (ie Dior Pure Poison, Alien, sorry ladies..) Unfortunately I ultimately dismissed it as too "familiar", as its white flowers soooo remind me of the ones in Coco Chanel. Luckily, I spritzed myself before having left so I got to watch it on the dry down. Maybe my expectations are just too high, because I just drilled with my cynicism all the way home. Hours after, just before falling asleep, I could smell a whole new side to VB -- a warm suede, and wispy white flowers with smoky resins. Ugh! Too brilliant. It was just luxurious and probably one of the smoothest new scents I've tested in a long while. I don't get much of the citrus notes, they seem to be tied into the white flowers, and again, very subtle. If I had sprayed a bit more generously, I may have gotten the full effect -- anyway, I went ahead and ordered it that night. Another review will be posted, hopefully not as obnoxiously long as this.

I really need a full bottle of this! This opens with quite a masculine opening on me, suedey leathery smells, ceder, vetiver, pepper, almost a hint of cumin? along with green violet leaf. Then along comes orris and iris to play with the violet, softening this and making it more feminine, the violet leaf along with orris and iris giving an illusion of violet flowers, fleetingly, here one moment and gone the next. The suede, vetiver, cedar and pepper give this a slight masculine edge that I enjoy a suedey woody green smell, while the iris, violet leaf and orris make this softer and more feminine. The muskiness is present from about half an hour in, for me. This is a nicely crafted perfume, not the easiest to wear but not difficult either. Longevity, on skin I'd say about 6-8 hours with surprisingly soft sillage. On clothes it lasts longer, as expected. Only downside really is the price, this stuff doesn't come cheap where I live. I would very much like to have a large bottle of this as I think I would wear it often, seeing as it balances my love of quite strong slightly masculine notes with my love of violets...suede and violet, mmmm....but it is nearly £100 for a small bottle in the only place I have found selling it! Going to keep my eye out for better deals but in the meantime I will have to just use this on the days I pass the store selling it!

As of September, I started making monthly perfume trays in order to get to know the perfumes I already own even better. This is on October's tray, and now that the last days of October are coming to an end, I feel that I can give a pretty fair review on this. :) This was high on my favorites list since I owned it, but don't like to use it often since it is discontinued. This is a perfect "perfume" perfume, if you know what I mean. It doesn't smell like fruit, food, patchouli...it's not supposed to smell like anything in particular. Although Violet is in the name, it's a powdery iris that is a predominant note. I still find that there's something in this that smells a lot like violet. I used to think this perfume smelled JUST like those little packs of violet mints, but I am wrong. What radiates from the scent reminds me of those violet mints, but this is very much a sort of makeup scent that reminds me of an actress's dressing room in the 50s (this sort of scent may not have been popular then, but that's what it reminds me of). I find this to be super elegant and great for weddings, but also works as an errand-running perfume. I find that this smells best when it's slightly wet outside, but low in humidity. I would buy this over and over and over again!

I have always wanted to own a brand new, full bottle of this perfume and I was so sad when I realized that it was discontinued and can't be found anywhere. So, you can imagine my joy when I found out that one reputable shop in the country where I live sells it. I had to order it as soon as possible, as everyday there were fewer and fewer bottles of this perfume in stock (apparently, people in my country really missed it.). The bottle arrived today and my first impression is, that the scent is otherwordly gorgeous. In the beginning it's very spicy, peppery and woody, slightly citrusy and green, but then it transforms itself into that beautiful, powdery, sweet violet/iris (yet still slightly peppery and woody) scent that feels very cozy, nostalgic, cosmetics-like. To my nose it smells really unique, they don't really make those nostalgia-evoking, powdery perfumes like that nowadays. It also reminds me of Bronze by Ellen Tracy (very similar in its cosmetic, makeup-y powderiness, discontinued, too >P) and Infusion d ́Iris by Prada (woody, green element). It wasn't cheap but I'm so glad I got the bottle. Also, the perfume has a very nice unisex feel to it, at least to my nose. I will be testing it a bit more today and may add something more to my review. :)

I forgot how divine this fragrance is until wearing it to work today. It is a beautiful enveloping violet leaf powder with subtle hints of suede. It is both comforting and cold. Reminds me of the smell of some Revlon lipsticks (the violet/iris). Gold is a very appropriate color for the bottle, as it smells rich and glamorous, in an old-school sort of way. Lasts forever and isn't overpowering despite being very strong. On skin, dries down with heavier aspects of musk, and I get more cedar than I do on my clothing, which holds the iris/violet leaf notes more. I have it sprayed on my wrists and shirt to test the differences. Definitely appropriate as a "special event" scent, but does just as well to wear to work as it is also professional. Edit: May be an unpopular opinion, but all day I was wondering which aspect of this smells similar to another perfume, and I figured it out. The cedar in this is a much lighter version of the cedar in D&G Light Blue (on skin). I used to own that and gave it away, but did enjoy that aspect of it, so I'm glad Violet Blonde gives me that plus so much more. :)

OMG I saw this come up on a group and I bought it for a RIDICULOUS price, probably LESS than what the RRP was 10+ years ago, and it sat on my shelf, still wrapped in cellophane, until a few weeks ago when I unwrapped it and did a quick spritz. I wasn't all that blown away then, but I sure AF am now... The violet, violet leaf, orris and iris mingle EXPERTLY here. The violet leaf provides JUST the right amount of mechanical coldness to add a different texture, the iris is used in PERFECT proportion to create JUST the right amount of plastic, and the orris adds the right amount of rooty warmth. The violet isn't front and centre in this, but I can detect it and feel it, and all 4 wonderful components seriously work PERFECTLY in unison to create this amazing scent. I love it -- I seriously LOVE IT. Sometimes I have NO LUCK when speculatively blind buying scents I 'should' like, but this right here is a sheer LUCK and I can't believe I was THIS lucky. Obviously I need to live in it, and really get all the individual bits and pieces, but, for the most part, I am UTTERLY smitten by this. AMAZING.

Dear God in heaven this is the best fragrance in my entire collection. I just got a small bottle of it and I am completely and utterly in love. Unfortunately my bottle leaked in the mail so when the package came into the house I could smell it immediately and thought what is that amazing scent? I think the mailman might have gone home to his wife like a horn dog after handling that package. I would say my nose is fairly experienced at this point and the quality and consistency of this perfume is unbelievable. How can I describe it other then it goes out sweet without that nauseatingly cheap gourmandness. And after the period of settling it has a residual sexual aroma that is just the most exotic and hot scent I have ever come across. I honestly would be willing to part with about 75% of my collection to have a surplus of this. I would rate it a 11 on a scale of 1-10. Most sexy female scent out there!

This is incredibly beautiful. I am actually astonished at how gorgeous it is. I blind bought it because I love violets and it sounded intriguing....a really good blind buy! I particularly love the opening, but the dry down is also very nice, kind of buttery and rich. I don't find anything harsh here, just lovely violet and iris and lasts about 7 hours on me. If this kind of thing bothers you, though, I will say that my first time wearing two young girls said it smelled like an "old lady perfume". While I hate that ridiculous phrase and find it insulting to women AND perfume, in this case I think it means this scent is incredibly sophisticated. This not sweet or redolent of berries. It's sleek and smooth and astonishingly well-blended. I will happily be the "old lady" who wears this perfume....Tom Ford, once again, you rock!

My gosh! I am so happy I decided to purchase this!! I’ve been strolling down the Iris and Violet fragrance rabbit hole as of late. First it was Dior Homme (2017 bottle) and Dior Homme original. Then Dior Homme intense- all wonderful sort of fresh and woody irises except intense that’s more chocolate vetiver and Iris. Then Valentino Uomo and Guerlian Iris Torrefie. Great. Then Insolence edt and Ombré leather Parfum- Neon Violet candies and Luxury leather. Violet blonde is both playful Violet candies and plush luxury leather jacket. The Violet leaf adds just enough green to keep the Violet candy toned down and sophisticated. It wears closer to the skin than Insolence and I wish it projected more but that’s just me. This is very sexy. I’m getting images of 90’s pin ups - Dita Von Teese.

Absolutely Lovely scent, horrible silage and longevity! 3 sprays produced something that I had to bury my nose to my wrist to smell! And even after 7 sprays, no one could smell it besides me! Didn't even last on clothes! While the perfume itself it flawless, the whole package is below average! It is crazy expensive and lasts just long enough for you to reach your destination! No silage to speak of either! I am sure there are better Violets out there! If it lasted more than 3 hours and had some kind of projection at all, I'd be a lifelong fan! Update: I've noticed I can't actually smell most of my violet perfumes after an hour...I guess its me and not them! Still love them though!

I agree with @SailorV this is an icy blonde for sure from autumn through to the end of spring, but try wearing it on a hot summer day and good god it morphs into something nothing short of spectacular. More fresh violet than lipstick iris, and much more earthy. Although there isn't, I'd nearly swear there's the slightest sprinkle of oakmoss in it. Honestly I find it a little one dimensional in colder months but on a sunny day like today it has great depth. I have a 100ml bottle that I had been using frugally due to its discontinuation. Why do all the best fragrances get discontinued??? Now I will strictly reserve it for hot summer months and enjoy every waking moment.

I recently wore this to a wedding and I was scared it would be a little overwhelming in the heat, but not at all. It was absolutely DELICIOUS. Not a bit cloying, but like a passing wave of violet. I used to get these violet mints that could be smelled through my purse and this reminds me of them so much. The leather and violet leaf are so beautiful. This is powdery, but not in a baby powder way. I think this is my favorite Tom Ford fragrance I've smelled so far. Tempted to make it my signature fragrance, but since it's discontinued, I don't want to use it too much. I got a great deal on a bid ($45) for a 1.7 oz bottle and am so glad I ended up getting it! :)

What a precious, intoxicating scent! Not a normal violet scent, rather a warm, dark, powdery, velvety-shining and a bit animalic violet (I think it's the patchouli and leather note). It makes me optimistic in a way because it's so happy and mysterious at the same time. It's high quality, lasts very long and you don't need much... Awkward but true: the heady notes remind me of the aldehydes in Chanel No 5 (at least on my skin). Where No 5 is comforting and elegant, Violet Blonde has these uplifting and exciting notes... Although the 2 perfumes don't share the same notes in general. Anyway, a great great perfume you don't smell everywhere.

Confession of an addict.. Yes. The opening notes I get from this scent have catnip type effect on me...I have to make sure that I apply it in private and at least 10 minutes before I have to appear as a genuine human being. That intense peppery violet twangs my nasal hairs, rolls my eyes back, pulls at my teeth...and I'm off! Chroming would describe it accurately :) I just cant get enough of it. Thankfully these top notes soften to a musky iris for the remainder of the ride and I recover to a bed of gentle benzoin. L: Moderate S: Moderate Currently on the wagon....though....its been long enough I think ;)

Hell!! This is so damn good!! The first spritz takes your breath away, in the the same way that it does initially with Black Orchid. There's that 'strange' note that you can't quite put your finger on, but then you just 'get it'! Those beautiful violets, that iris, the stunning suede note all enveloped in musk. This perfume almost has shades of Black Orchid, but is a much more ozonic scent, not quite as rich and syrupy, but has a wonderful charm all of its own. This perfume is a powerbomb with great longevity and heavy silage. Simply stunning, classy, head turning perfume. Mr Ford, you've done it again!

Overall: 9/10 Here's why: Lovely. Sumptuous silky violet and musk. I adore this. Powdery in the best of the sense, artificial to the tens for the first few minutes, but part of me thinks this is intentional. Once you get past the initial Tom Ford blast, this is a true beauty. Suede and violets, musk and leaves. A real amazing scent. Joyous and so much fun. Not for everyone in the sense that any other Fragrance wouldn't be for everyone. Love smelling my wrists during the evolution of this. The peppercorn with the white florals is stunning. Plays very well with Tuscan leather.

I received my blind buy today of Violet Blond by Tom Ford. Well I sprayed it on me and I smelled the violet and iris. Then a touch of sweat. Was a little Leary at first then about 20 million notes later that dreadful smell was gone and I smell the suede and musk. Which I was very thank full that is it changed to or I would have been stuck with a 1.7oz bottle of sweat. Still prefer blach orchid, but going to try and wear the black orchid moisturizer with the VB and see where that takes me. the thing with perfume is chemistry either you it works for you or it doesn't.
