Domus Numeni

Stepping into DN starts with feeling of entering my local church on a day I’d selfishly rather stay curled in blankets on my couch. And finishes with zero regrets. As a child, I hated going to the church; the gloomy, incensy scent used to smell marginally better than my neighbors Chanel5 or her husband’s slivovica-induced breath. Memories of funerals and weddings that often felt like funerals used to evoke unsettling feelings. Until many distant years later, and with humble maturity, I realised those unsettling feelings were part of something bigger - deep rooted sense of belonging, sense of community, sense of normality. And this masterpiece of a perfume exactly represents this sentiment: at first I am hit by almost unwanted “raging and overwhelming opening”, like a metal rod slamming against a stone wall, loud AF. Then, about 30 minutes in, a flare of fresh peppercorns and dried cloves settles me into state of curiosity and discovery. After couple of hours I am fully immersed with familiar smells - subtle frankincense, oudy-woody tones, whipped-like wax, more of a drying dumpiness than full on dust, and for some reason some soft-leaning leather lingers through hours later...Victorious smile, when people around me are intrigued what I am wearing... On a strong day, I wear DN neat. On an emotional day, I add one layer of 1907 Muscaccino (snobs will judge!). DN is not for the hurried or the superficial. It is a multi-layered meditation with a gong at the beginning that soon becomes a house of memory and familiar rituals. If you are lucky, it will capture your soul more than your skin.

Domus Numeni smells like some black sludge concoction I'd mix up as a child in the dead of autumn and call it a "potion." Which is to say its stunning and I'd put it on the FB wishlist if it wasn't so fucking impossible to get my hands on and expensive. Wet resinous pine bark, curly strips of birch, mud dug out of the dead garden, pine needles, paper leaves crushed into powder, small soft fruit of landscaping trees and bushes all bittersweet and spoiled, everything ferociously stirred together in a plastic bucket, both hands on the garden trowel. Left out in the rain overnight and inhaled under a full moon. Now I can speak to the divine directly. Wonderful fragrance.

the price is crazy and I can't justify buying a full bottle at all, but I picked up a small decant. it literally smells like the basement of some eastern European church, it's insane. you can smell the burnt incense hanging in the air, the old wooden pews, the moisture on centuries old stone. not something you would wear normally unless the whole gothic vibe is your thing and you want to smell like some priest from the 1700s, but it's an experience and I enjoy the scent and appreciate the art of perfumery on display here.

Really enjoying this one, however, not worth the price. Take Me To Church might be better (well, my wife seems to think so). I would’ve gladly paid $250–300 for this without having to enter some giveaway... Beyond the price tag.. it's a very very very nice scent, performs well on my skin. My 2nd personal favorite from Toskovat, TMTC being #1.

Im absolutely in love with this perfume. From first sniff i felt like i was in church for christmas mass at midnight.its exactly what ive been searching for and wears beautifully as the day goes on. I can smell it on myself all day and it makes me so happy and im already mourning the fact that i dont have a full sized bottle.

smells like an incense stick and pine needle in a dusty room. it opens fresh and dries down smoky but there is a dewy quality to it that stays. all the notes are well blended into a pleasant and wearable perfume. it is definitely masculine leaning but i really like it.

Got mine this morning and been wearing it all day and these are my final thoughts. For a toskovat release, very good. I love this house and i think with each addition they bring something new to the lineup and stand well as fragrances alone. For me, this type of fragrance has already been explored with Fillippo sorcinelli who, imo truly does incense and church vibes best. So when standing this against some of my favs like Quando rapita and Reliqvia, it isnt quite as good. This is an amazing perfume however i believe this genre or perfume will always be overshadowed by Fillippo sorcinelli. However for this particular perfume this does not take away from the scent. The smell of this to me is a complete non spicy resinous scent with very slight but noticeable green bitterness in the background. To my nose, this almost does have an old musty kind of smell but its in no way stinky or anything. Its like that one storage room in a church or something where extra chairs are just excluding the dust. Overall Domus Numeni is a great release and stands up well with other toskovats just doesn't particularly glow with amazing unique qualities when looking at the pure scent alone. As an anniversary perfume i think this is an excellent choice and I am so happy to have grabbed a bottle. If you can afford and collect, purchase- if on the fence and not sure. I'd pass and have a look at Fillippo sorcinelli.

this smells exactly like a romanian christian orthodox church service and is a versatile fall winter spring day and evening scent. resin, incense, oud prominent, incredibly warm and boozy as well. reminds me very much of reliqvia except that one has more earth in it. the dust and metallic in this comes across like that scent from a fog machine. beautifully done, and also wearable. definitely masculine and packs a decent punch in terms of strength and performance. for what it is, i think for the artistry it’s worth the money if you can afford it....but maybe those are just my childhood memories talking. anyway, wash away your sins with this

So this smells absolutely horrible, but I like it. Its aim is to recreate the smell of a church cellar, and it does that extremely well. Obviously, the smell of a musty church basement isnt nice and this is it hopped up to a million, but it does an amazing job of it. My personal recommendation would be to buy a sample of this, then play Resident Evil 7 while it dries down. Youll understand exactly what I mean

Man I’m excited for this, this seems like a total upgrade from original TMTC with it being less peppery. I was worried about buying this and it being a Filippo Sorcinelli type fragrance with overly potent spices (which I love but want limited to Filippo Sorcinelli) but I’m really looking forward to this

Marvelous scent. On my skin it is mostly incense and birch tar, and I am obsessed with birch tar. It starts little bit like Zagorsk (one of my most favorite perfumes), and quickly ends up with tar and oud. It smells like a church in a village. Love it. Not worth the money, though.

I’m usually a big fan of Toskovat, but this fragrance isn’t much to write home about. My main issue is not the price. It is that the scent itself falls short of being truly good. At best, it is decent. The oils feel high quality and well concentrated, and the longevity is strong. However, the scent comes across as a more metallic take on James Heeley’s Cardinal. It is so metallic that it almost leans aquatic. The wood note is quite shy, lacking depth and complexity, and it comes off slightly soapy. Overall, the fragrance feels flat and not particularly nuanced. That said, it works reasonably well as a layering option.

Overall for a 600Euro! Scent 4/10 for that price Presentation 4/10 for that price Packaging 4/10 nothing special with scratches Delayed 3 weeks from purchase nothing special about the scent at all. I would say its cheap scent with no vision for that price Disappointed Would have bought 2-3 bottles of 600Euro from other brands with quality scent

I just don't see which ones are try-hard edgy enough to labelled "cringe" I guess besides Spinal Fluid on the Walls which is definitely exactly what's being talked about and just edgy for the sake of edginess with no artistic value - that one was a total miss and I reviewed it as such over on it's page. Maybe Age of Innocence but I would argue that one is definitely tongue-in-cheek and meant to have a little bit of comedic value in it's concept. The rest just deal with darker emotional subject matter (depression, loneliness, etc.) drawn from the perfumer's personal experiences which I don't see why any of that is automatically edgy or cringe just because it's channeling negative subject matter. Unless you know something I don't idk what was "fake" about that creative falling out with Ataraxia, from my understanding that was some guy who was a fan of Toskovat attempting to make his own fragrance house but essentially relied on David for all of the creative input and then attempted to steal credit and/or an unfair amount of profits - I agree the proceedings were overly public and dramatic but I guess it is what it is when the "partnership" is so public in the first place. Like I said I'm not the biggest fan of the fantasy accords either but they can be fun when paired with the story behind the scent, I just wish we got an actual note list included in addition to that.

David claiming thier way of doing drop is not marketing tactic but: -site open for 1h, -new relises only limits, -does not offer any samples, so the whole toskovat snowball can roll on the mystery aspect and tiktok kids reactions, -theres no indication of the % of oils nowhere on the site as it used to be, -forcing perfume lovers to buy some cheap looking necklace and pricing everything at 600€?! Claiming u can enroll for a time with him contest and it's making it worth? For sure it wont be staged. Sorcinelli probably has the same scent for 1/3 cost, -not metioning beef with ataraxia when toskovat betrayal collection smells like diluted ataraxia. Claiming thievery about thier new relise tho by the first look on it it's two different perfumes. I'm not on anyone side but I'm pretty sure Sy Truong wouldn't copy toskovat fluid. -raising up prices and promising more availability which never came. Overall this brand no longer represents what it's used, everthing seems blown up by social media, relises are just mid as well as the performance of most toskovat perfumes. Edit: After the initial sale and contest being over he's selling the "returns" for the same price ofc. Btw online retail price for this is 450Eur. Not to mentioning how he fkd up US shipping and people were charged 1k$ tax to get their parcels.

“ Is telling a story or taking oneself seriously "cringe" now?” that’s not what I was talking about at all and is such a disingenuous argument. What’s cringe to me is the reliance on edgy shock value , which in my opinion is a low effort form of expression. I used to listen to odd future in 2011, shock value doesn’t impress or phase me like that. I think that being earnest as an artist and taking yourself seriously is important, but to me it feels like more of a “ bit” than being genuine. I want the storytelling, I just want it to feel genuine and not performative. When I talk about cringe marketing I’m referencing things like the fake beef toskovat had with their collaborator a few months back. And releasing every fragrance with 20 different made up accords. It’s all subjective anyways, it’s just my opinion and how the art looks to me. Clearly his work is very popular and resonates with a lot of people. All I’m saying is that TO ME, if the brand took like a 15% more grounded approach and focused on being less “edgy 20 something boy” and leaned into something more reserved and austere it would feel more put together and luxe to me. That’s all. It’s just a twinge too angsty young male coded

Domus Numeni by Toskovat. At first glance, not much to say tbh. Im going to start with something negative and then continue with something positive. The opening is a really static church (resin) smell, Especially Frankincense if i had to pick only one resin that im smelling. But thats what this is about, a Holy House. I enjoy it, its really well rounded and nicely blended. if i had to pick one word for it, the word would be “Refined” Now, Let’s be real, is it worth the €570 price tag? As much as i enjoy Toskovat, i would say no. Presentation-wise, it is worth it even 100 times over and over. Smell-wise it is nothing more than a churchy smell, the oud is inexistent. If you want a churchy fragrance, you could buy one from Sorcinelli or Adi Ale Van for 1/2 the price, im not a fan of either but they do really well church-wise. I cant say im disappointed, i have to wear this more, its just nothing extraordinary, i wish he came up with something more special for his 3rd anniversary. Looking forward to see what he’d do for his 4th. Or maybe I’ll be too far gone. Final Thoughts - Beautiful but Redundant. I’ll have to wear this more to get a solid opinion about the drydown.

Hello maladjusted, Everyone is free to put his or her money wherever they like, and Toskovat that I totally ignore their craft cause they only have this fragrance at 700$ at their website available, are free to put any price they like. As for me, yes I own lot of fragrances that are very expensive like Diaghilev and others, but with Roja I was able to sample before I buy, this fragrance that I was really willing to blind buy is around 700$. If I will have the occasion to purchase from this house other fragrances to understand and appreciate their work or if I will be able to sample before buying, I might put this amount and more, but first it’s very legitimate to ask why without being negative. @Sleimanaz I’ll apologise, I wasn’t intending to come off as overtly rude or negative. I just assumed you were being negative yourself and questioning why anyone would ever buy Domus Numeni at all. I never realised you were just asking a legitimate query. I will own up and say sorry for that. I recommend you do sample Toskovat’ if you can because they have some unique and wonderful fragrances. They’re just such a lovely brand, I couldn't recommend them more. My personal favourite is Born Screaming. Yet again, I am sorry. I didn’t mean at all to be rude in anyway to you. Peace.
