Mycelium

Feb 11th. In testing this blind the Initial opening had an earthy soil and green aura to it that reminded me of walking into a garden center filled with plants and bags of fresh dirt. Any floral elements seem to be in the background if not completely absent. As the day went on it turned more forest floor with a green pine feel, and maybe some herby leaning vetiver? Looking at the notes now, the soil is pronounced, and the pachouli with the Japanese cypress represents much of what's on display, with the cypress taking over the second half. The mushrooms echo the soil and making them somewhat moot, where the black currents feel like we're in the wrong aisle as I get nothing cassis or jammy. But I am sure they add something. At the end of the day this essentially feels like an aromatic woodsy projection but with a more pronounced earthy green twig and leaf presence that, while interesting at times, remains a bit too reminiscent of potting plants, than mysteriously lost in the magical woods of Oregon where mycelium grows. This makes it more asexual than unisex, and while longevity and projection were both good, I just feel like this pot may be overly soiled.

Smells of... Mycelium. Dank, woody, earthy notes. I do like it, though it may be challenging to wear. The patchouli in this is strong and earthy. I like it a lot, it's photorealistic. It's not my thing, though. If you like earthy scents, this is for you!

The perfumer lists five notes: Soil, Mushrooms, Patchouli, Black Currant, Hinoki Wood ...but only the last three have ended up on Fragrantica's note pyramid. This happens all the time, and too often. ...I'm not sure why. Soil (as earth tincture) and mushroom are both already established notes, which makes their absence even more bizarre.

Cool scent, more "perfume as art" than something to wear out. Very challenging wear, with a photorealistic mushroom note.
