East

A mysterious wooden box filled with Asian treasures, both dark and light, East is gently creamy, woody, a bit dry and slightly sweetened...a cedar lined box filled with golden and silky treasures, books and driftwood, and the mystery of the unknown. At once it feels comforting...yet dark, like a loving friend with secrets. You feel wrapped in the warmth of comfort yet there is a stillness, a quietness, but something that seems soul stirring. I can almost imagine opening a wooden chest in the quiet darkness, hearing a creak, and getting a whiff of what’s inside without seeing it. East feels like visiting a place you’ve never been but somehow feel like you know it. It relaxes me...but not in a cozy way but more in contemplative way. East calms the chaotic world around me, and allows me to relax, breathe, think, and know that everything is going to be okay. (This version of East is a floriental with hints of ginger lily and jasmine sambac, framed by several varieties of cedarwood (Moroccan, Atlas and Virginian), aged premium Sumatran patchouli and Mysore sandalwood.)

Where does this elegant ache and beautiful ephemerality come from? In this case, maybe it will come down from the east. Teone as the wonderful perfumer recommended "East" to me (she said that "you might like it"). She is very understand my favorite scent. Spicy White Ginger Lily and aromatic sweety Tiare Flower invits me to the East world. Amber and featly sweet Ylang-Ylang are like flying butterflies with the fertile ground. And hardness of virginia cedar recalls me, "please return to here."

I used to learn Tahitian dance a couple of years ago and we would put tiares behind our ears, roll our colourful pareos as far down our hips as we can get away with, and fa'arapu as fast as can across the dance studio. We couldn't quite afford importing the real flowers from Tahiti of course, so we bought the plastic clip-on tiares sold as cheap hair accessories and wore them with delight anyway. East would be the perfume I picture myself wearing if I ever dance it again. The ginger lily, ylang ylang and tiare gives this fragrance a very islandic feel and it makes me wanna sway my hips while being lulled by the rhythm of the waves and coconut trees. East is a scent saturated with the primary colours of nature. The blue of the ocean, the red of flowers, the yellow of the equatorial sun. I close my eyes and I'm wearing a white tiare behind my right ear, a string of pink shells around my neck, a low-hung red pareo. And I can almost feel my feet softly stepping on the green green grass.

I've been so impressed with this line! Such beautiful, luxurious, exotic fragrances. I do love ginger but often the note in perfumes falls flat. When it is true, zesty and fresh, it just feels like food to me (I do love it in food). But this ginger lily is really different. Floral, exotic, fruity, sligthly gingery undertones, just enough to feel a little spicy. This frag feels tropical, with the ylang and tiare. I could buy this whole line.
