Incense

I have this in unguent form. There is such a high percentage of oils in it that they precipitate out and form a film on the surface. Scooping the buttery soft unguent with my nails and rubbing it into the skin is a luxurious experience that has become quite addictive. Bearing in mind that this was probably how the ancients used perfumes in certain cultural contexts, it makes sense that applying unguents triggers a kind of cellular memory that is deeply therapeutic. Smooth, creamy and dignified olibanum is tempered with the fresh terpenic qualities of fir and juniper. In the background is a gorgeous Cedrus Atlantica. I have high quality therapeutic grade atlas cedarwood essential oil so I recognise this note well. When aged and very pure, atlas cedarwood (and not the juniperus virgiana variety that is used as a substitute these days) exudes a thick woody resinous and almost sourish scent that is absolutely enchanting. But on its own atlas cedar can quickly become overwhelming and "tired". Incense is the only fragrance thus far in which I can smell that glorious atlas cedar without getting surfeited. Overall it is predominantly a very crisp, summery and light-hearted frankincense-centered perfume that is wearable in all seasons. It's not a "date" perfume. I will use this when I want to be alone with my thoughts. Which is most of the time anyway :)

Incense suspends time as the green-tinged honeyed light of the setting sun pours through the forest, illuminating diaphanous insect wings as they hover over a fallen tree. Under your feet are sticky, resinous needles. Between your hands, crushed fresh needles of juniper and fir. You bury your face in your hands. Inhale - hit pause - and exhale slowly. Imbued with a tangible spiritual quality, Incense is an uplifting and invigorating but very calming fragrance. This beautiful marriage of frankincense, bergamot and conifers hums along all day, comforting the wearer and blessing those who encounter its delicate trail. Sublime.
