Mortel Noir

I love this. This is similar to Mortel, but as the design of the bottle would suggest, this is darker and deeper. This is a churchy incense, but not as churchy as Mortel. I get more woody accords and spice/pepper in this, but it's surprisingly smoother than Mortel. The resins in this are borderline boozy and the rose adds a dimension that is lacking in Mortel. Performance on this is outstanding- this lasts ALL day. I like Mortel but I love Mortel Noir.

Hands down best church incense out. I have Comme De Garçons Incense Avignon, Armani BDA, Liquides Imaginaries Sancti, and this has the most depth / high quality natural vibe to it. Of course, this reflects in the price tag. If you like any of the others I mentioned, then you will love this and need to buy it since it’s a limited edition that is getting hard to find. There’s two on eBay as I type.

Very strong pepper and incense perfume. I love it, but it don't smell amber at all. It remains constant, very dark and dry. It makes me think of the spices odors we can smell during summer in Southern France, when the sun cook the bushes and grass along the roads.

I have tried Maison Trudon Fragrances because the blends intrigue me and undoubtedly, the quality of the fragrances is superior. I liked Mortel but as others have stated, Mortel seems to be lacking...like it needs a bit more oomph. So when Mortel Noir was released, I decided to give it a try. Mortel Noir is straight-up Mortel but more intense with more pepper, amber and myrrh, other woody resins and something green (perhaps). This fragrance smells more like any other mainstream amber fragrance I've smelled in the past. It's linear and simple...nothing unique, or special. And FWIW, Mortel Noir performs more beastly than Mortel, which makes it a very masculine leaning fragrance in my world. In comparison, Mortel is soft, almost powdery and unisex now that I've experienced both Mortel fragrances. Not much more to say. Silage is perhaps a wee-bit better than Mortel but this is still a skin fragrance. Longevity is moderate at 4-6 hours. Given the sum of all of it, while nice enough this is a full-bottle pass.

Incense heaven. This concentrated version of the popular Trudon scent amps up the pepper and olibanum several notches. The result is a deep study in smoky church like incense similar to Avignon. There are other supporting notes like labdanum, benzoin and myrrh but this is a peppery incense show from start to finish. The masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong sillage and good longevity. Must have for incense lovers. Enjoy!

A lot more fresh herbal and lemony than the original. Still a very beautiful fragrance that I would love to smell on someone else but not for me

Hm. I don't so much *smell* the black pepper as I do feel it tickling my nostrils and making me want to sneeze. This is overall a resinous, incense-y fragrance that's sort of similar to Etat Libre d'Orange's Attaquer le Soleil, but when compared to Attaquer, Mortel Noir has smaller projection, shorter longevity, doesn't have as much complexity, character, and intruigue as Attaquer does. When I wear Attaquer le Soleil, I am reminded of exploring ancient, mysterious churches, drinking a chai tea, and reading musty, centuries-old books, and frankly, I'm all for that. But when I tried wearing Mortel Noir, I'm reminded of stuffy weed/tobacco pipe shops that smell of old, stale incense, and that's not something I want to smell like or be reminded of on any sort of regular basis. xD If you're looking for an incense-y fragrance, ELdO's Attaquer Le Soleil is a great place to start, but Amouage's Purpose is EVEN BETTER!!! Purpose is very different from both Attaquer and Mortel Noir in that it is spicier, warmer, more complex, not as dark & dank, better-projecting, longer-lasting, and is all around a better fragrance than the other two. I know I'm biased seeing as how I finished my 2 ml sample of Purpose almost immediately and had to buy a full bottle, but believe me, it's worth it! <3

Mortel Noir lacks the original Mortel's honeyed incense note. It is as if an artificial sweetener has been substituted instead and the overall impact of the fragrance suffers as a result. It's good, but not very exciting. Another flanker as a non-event. Resist the allure of the black bottle: all that glitters is not gold.

So not needed; the market is saturated with this type of perfumes. It's the same genre as Casbah, Avignon, etc, etc. Personally, I prefer Mortel over Mortel Noir, it's more complex and easier to wear. MN is more woody and smokey, and has that "church smell." A pass.

A case of "what you see is what you get". Very similar to Mortel (regular version), but with more pepper in the opening and better performance overall.

Mortel Noir is an essential discovery for any serious incense lover. It is an exceptional choice for those who appreciate deep, "churchy" fragrances, featuring a prominent pepper opening that transitions into a sophisticated, resinous blend of frankincense, labdanum, myrrh, and warm amber. Note: BP LOVES this frag, I am also very interested in exploring Etat Libre d'Orange's Attaquer le Soleil; based on the reviews here, it seems to offer a similarly atmospheric.

I really, surprisingly loved this. Vigorously dark and peppery, likened to church incense but softened by a naturalistic tone, perhaps from pure cistus, which carries a herbacous note, and is warm rather than dry. Madagascan black pepper characterises the whole fragrance but you get nutmeg, frankincense, myrrh and benzoin resin—dark and intoxicating but really well balanced. Very interesting

Exactly like with the regular Mortel version, I only get ‘BANANA PEEL’. Am I the only one? I almost blind bought it because of the alluring description and reviews. Happy I didn’t, better stick to the fragrances Lyn Harris created for Trudon.

Heavy heavy labdanum bomb with some nice frankincense too. Really natural and high quality smelling. Very much in the line of Ma Nishtana or Avignon, dry churchy incense. I quite like it, it’s definitely very much my style
