Freshman

Apparently this is what the vintage Cool Water used to smell like. More citrus here and less of the mint and 'green'/'freshly crushed leaves' notes in cool water. Also much less lavender and more bite thanks to the sage. It's also a touch sharper thanks to the white floral heart.

This is T+H's Cool Water clone, but like CM Greenbriar, it comes across as more natural in the top notes, with more realistic florals and herbs. Here, as in 1805, "barbershoppy" elements start to manifest themselves very soon, in the form of a clean but spicy wintergreen that takes over after a few minutes. It intrigues me how much their clones of popular designer scents are so true to the original at first but then deviate into more traditional, "gentlemanly" territory, like a Trumper's scent. The wintergreen becomes more dusty over time, but gains a new sweetness like honey, and doesn't bother me like most wintergreen because it's warmer and greener, rather than icy and sharp. Because of this, the scent manages to be warm and cool at the same time like Geir. Toward the base, the florals come back very strong, with one that's very perky and natural that I only notice after not sniffing at it for a few minutes. The only problem is a bit of a metallic tinge on the sweet basenotes, Ultimately, this is a very nice entry into the Cool Water family, with some hidden surprises.

Though it was formulated a hundred and forty years ago, it's amazing how up-to-date and fresh this smells (is it the original formula?). I was once told by a saleswoman this was supposedly inspired by first-year male students at Oxford and Cambridge, and it's well named. Very pretty, and appropriate for any gender for the summertime.

Zesty&bergamot version of clubman with the same soapy undertone. In a sense, both are good fresh floral aftershave splash, but not a real fragrance you want to wear all day, everyday

The opening gives strong citrus and florals from the lemon/bergamot and the flower mid-notes. This is a very fresh, summary scent. I'll agree with the comments below saying this is a Cool Water-clone, although this is more citrusy/aromitic and does not have the synthetically sweet blue notes that CW has. I've only test two of the Truefitt scents so far, but I get the idea that these are all old-fashioned, no-nonsense male barbershop scents, not something you'd wear to make a big impression or draw admiration. Altogether I'd give it a 7/10. It's a slightly more mature version of Cool Water, especially on the dry-down when the resinous, sweet amber starts to come out. It's a nice scent but it's really not my style.

Top notes are fresh, feminine lavender flowers. It eventually transforms into your basic sandalwood/cedar scent. It is nice, but rather uninteresting.

Quite a disappointment. I set out to try a scent launched in 1880 and what I get is a modern fragrance with much of the same synthetic aquatic chord as Cool Water and Green Irish Tweed. I can't imagine that the original smelled anything like this. Probably an ok CW-clone but unfortunately I don't like any of them.

The first thing that came to mind was Green Irish Tweed and Cool Water. The similarities are difficult to ignore. It carries the same fresh, green and slightly aquatic character, although in a more toned-down manner. Pleasant, but nothing particularly special.

Cool water clone is wayyyyyyyy off base, if anything CW is a clone of this since it's 100 years older.

People will think it's Cool Water, but Freshman has much better longevity and sillage!
