Trafalgar

This is an absolute love for me. I finally bought a bottle of it after putting it off for years; it's always been on the back of my mind, and I sparingly went through my multiple samples of it. This reminds me of how my dad would smell when I was really young, and it would just waft out of the bathroom--and especially his suitcase when he would fly to NYC for work. I really admired the whole thing, and I guess that connection makes me like this one so much more since it's a fond and familiar memory. It's a slightly spicy, very soapy barbershop scent. It's in the same family as the brand's other offering, Grafton, but I think this is probably the superior one. It smells clean, refreshing, and very classy--but not in a formal "I need to wear a tux for this" type of way. This is clean shaven in a suit or "Church clothes" vibe. It just smells plain good in a classic way. You can put this one on, and it's not going to stink. I think it's not easy to overspray either, and it would take some significant overspray to make this one offensive to others. Longevity is pretty good--gets you through the workday. May need to reapply in the evening. One of my favorites in the collection, and I've got a fair amount of heavy hitters from Creed, Tom Ford, and the like. It's a scent like this that has made me sort of drift away from the expensive stuff that I seldom receive any compliments on and start to wear excellent offerings like this that are far less risky to wear in public. As mentioned in my other recent T&H review, I highly recommend pairing this with the shaving cream and/or aftershave balm. Both do a perfect job and make shaving less of a chore.

First of all, even though the juice is blue, the scent is definitely not...Freshman should have been this color. You start with an unusual combination of lemon and nutmeg, a very light high-pitched soapy citrus over sharp, non-sweet woody spices. I'm sure it's one of many men's scents with this combination, but one of very few that I can smell the two simultaneously...a miracle of un-blending which I like a lot. As the lemon fades, some sweetness comes to the woody spices, yielding something like Santos, or Curzon, containing notes that normally fall into a heavy "winter" category, but are executed rather lightly. There's just a trace of anise, but I don't mind it because the nutmeg is so dominant. To some extent, this is the type of scent I wanted to find in some of the older Trumpers (Astor, Eucris, Curzon, Marlborough), but many didn't quite fit the bill or were too weak. It has just a trace of the distinct floral (carnation?) in Marlborough, but I mostly only notice this if I "revive" the mid notes by breathing warm air over the test spot. Trafalgar is also slight smoky, but avoids the over-the-top ashtray aura that kills Floris Elite. Even though it's not very strong in the base notes, I like what they've done here.

To be honest, this is the only T&H fragrance I have tried so far. I got the shaving creme and aftershave lotion to start with, and fell in love with this scent. The Lemon and Jasmine really "pop" to start with, but you get a woody dry down. It is not an intense woody smell, but it blends evenly with the Lemon and Jasmine in the dry down and no one scent really stands out. This is one of those "intimate" types, as in my opinion the sillage is not that great. It does last a good 3-6 hours though, depending on the activity/weather for the day. Great frag!

My favorite scent out of the T&H line. A nice way to start off your day...(shaving cream, balm, cologne even soap & shampoo!)....talk about layers!.......delightful.

Starts and continues until no longer detected as Lemongrass, with a hint of lavander, Jasmine. This is a much nicer version of 4711 citrus bomb, more subtle and sofisticated, slightly better longevity 2-3h. A bit outdated for modern taste

Lemony citrusy bomb on the nose at first. Very fresh. Transforms into sandalwood and warm cedar. Very solid choice.

This is another interesting one from T&H. I think the blue color of the liquid gives this away as peppermint/citrus bomb, but I also agree that a green or yellow color would also have been fitting. As an aftershave this makes a lot of sense but as a cologne that would stay on your body for hours, it's a bold choice. The super minty/citrus top notes almost remind me of those fruit shaped chewy candies that are coated in sugar. The base notes are very light, with the spices coming out the most. As I test more of the T&H scents, in understand I'm not really the target audience for this becuase im not a big fan of overly citrus/aromatic scents anyway. I'll give this scent a 6/10 as I've definitely smelled worse, but I don't really enjoy it. After the dry down, increasing to 7/10 cause it does get better.

Lemongrass, along with nutmeg (?). Light, fresh, nice, short-lived. I don't really get to any base notes before Trafalgar fades out. Would be great as an after shave or shower gel. The real notes written on my T&H sample sleeve are: lemongrass, bergamot, orange lavender and spice cedar, amber, musk. (Echoing other reviewers below, the color choice is wrong - Freshman and this should switch colors. )

"Spicy Cologne." Lemon, rosemary, black tea, some kind of spice, maybe allspice/nutmeg; not sure. Not bad, but not for me.

A Bit of peppermint and on your nose.

This is a pleasant enough scent but I find it just a little too complex for my liking. Redbeard below is in part right about it's colour I had exactly the same thought. Just the name Trafalgar and the smell of the scent suggests a green colour to me, if it really needed to be coloured at all. As he also quite rightly pointed out Truefitt & Hill's Freshman scent would most definitely look the part and tie in better with the scent being this nice blue. As silly as it may seem but small details like this do matter to some end users.

I get no lemon or bergamot, no florals, no sandalwood, no green notes, no tea – just a very faint nutmeg and an even fainter musk. Perhaps my bottle is off. A definite dislike for me.

When Polo Modern Reserve was in the store, I sampled it and was immediately reminded of Trafalgar. This is my favorite T&H scent along with Grafton. Deep and luxurious.

Brilliant and sparkling citrus with herbs- an English citrus with meaditerannean Nostalgia and breezy undertones. One of the best from T&H

Overpriced in terms of performance. amazing in terms of smell. Wish it was 50 bucks, it would be my go to dumb reach.
