A Man and His Pipe

I don’t usually leave reviews because I don’t ever feel compelled to. But after discovering TSVGA Parfums, I’ve entered a different era of my journey, I am gravitating to more transparent and natural brands and there are none on the level of TSVGA, James is an amazing person and perfumer, I still have a lot of mainstream niche fragrances but this brand is direction I’m going now, it’s not just about quality but lifestyle as well. You pay for what you get here, which is amazing high quality raw materials. A man and his pipe was the first fragrance I fell in love with from the brand, it is so deep and rich and sweet, just like all of James fragrances they are transportive af, some I’ll admit for myself aren’t the most wearable because I’m still new to collecting but don’t kid yourself they are all magical in their own way and will conjure some sort of emotion or feeling out of you.

I got this in a discovery set, and when I looked at the name I had a hard time thinking it was unisex. I'm woman enough to admit when I am wrong, and I couldn't have been more wrong about thinking this would only be suited for a man. I shared this with my Husband and it smelled very different on both of us. What stuck out to me note wise is the Amber and Oak with a backdrop of whiskey and tobacco This does NOT smell like mediocre whiskey, it reminds me of a beautiful single malt from Ireland. The tobacco in it is mellow, pleasantly sweet and smoky. I would absolutely consider this a high end natural Niche perfume without the ridiculous price . I will rate this a 10 out of 10.

There is no doubt TSVGA perfumes are super high quality build. Sadly people whom can handle in your face ostentatious perfumes often deride such but I get his ethos. Some are left field and some are left filed extreme. This one is left field. Super strong and oily tobacco with ambery whiskey and balsam over simplified as an explanation - super super heavy - oily and stains kinda performance. Really for people who need to stand outing to wow. If you are bold this is for you as is most of his creations. I love this one but its only for super personal occasions as it is very strong.

The new Pipe is out! If you’ve never smelled sticky, intense, natural tobacco absolute, the new Pipe is where to get your fix! It changes hour after hour, and ranges from tangy-cheesy to sweet-fruity. Not a projection beast because it’s 100% natural but you will get wafts and smell sublime for 12-16 hours. On fabric, longer. Gorgeous real tobacco blend. I detect labdanum, too?

Even though there are several animalic notes used in this it never gets even close to funky. Somehow it is all blended together to be rugged but with a sweet undertone. Like a man who has a hard exterior but really is just a softy on the inside. Chocloatey tobacco and a nice whiskey. A man who has his head on his shoulders and knows what he wants from life.

Tobacco and Chocolate? With animalics? You know that this fragrance smells good. I received this as a sample and knew that I had to purchase it. One of my top 2 tobacco colognes with TF Tobacco Vanille.

My favorite of the bunch. It’s very strong. This is what tobacco oud wanted to be.

After a nice opening, it bottoms out into a redundant chocolate tobacco scent that pump-fakes like it's a Slumberhouse fragrance but ultimately lacks character and staying power. I've currently got AMAHP on one wrist and Ore on the other, and it's striking how superior the Slumberhouse perfume is-- more voluminous, more well-rounded, more polished, longer lasting. I think I see what the perfumer was going for, but it feels referential, and the drydown on this is a bit of a mess. Goes a bit sour on me and feels more like something that I'm putting up with than something I'm stoked to be wearing. Not a scrubber, but feels like a hobbyist imitating something he's a fan of rather than a fully fleshed-out personal vision. There was also a "more is more" mindset with this brand, that felt fully realized in scents like Fiona and Shirley, but the maximalist aspect makes this one feel jumbled. It's fine, but better options exist.

I hated this when I first tried on my sample. In fact it took me weeks to be brave enough to wear it. What always happens on my skin is that the left arm smells like a completely different scent than my right arm. On my left arm I get the funky animalics. I had just braved Hyrax from Zoologist and it smells a tad like that. Nothing overwhelming, but not very likable to me. On the right hand smells like a really good fruity tobacco pipe scent. Looks like I'm at a crossroads.
