Milestones

Not so easy at the opening due to the burst of fossil amber that characterises it with its plastic and burnt smoke notes, associated with green ones given by costus and pine resin giving that conipherous vibe. In the following minutes, this lively sensation is dampened by a vague floral note, a generous dose of cocoa with mainly edible traits and beeswax, which are blended with various types of oud, revealing a chocolatey, tobacco, smoky and slightly animalic sensation, with this common thread lasting for hours. The base is characterised above all by its damp earthiness, thanks to a combination of sandalwood and mushrooms. Overall not an easy one, but it is highly evocative and perhaps one of James' most successful creations.

Milestones is a fragrance which can hold its own against legendary scents like Bloodline and Oud Zen. I feel very lucky to have purchased this before James Barry discontinued it in favor of A Man and His Pipe. This has exquisite natural notes including 3 wonderful ouds. This is a labor of love fragrance and I wish it would be brought back at some point. It leans male, has strong sillage and longevity. Price point is great too, but not sure it can be found anywhere. I do plan to get at least several more of his scents.

As a non oud lover, this is very wearable I'd say. I would actually consider buying a travel size of this. Also high quality ingredients used here, same with his other offerings.

This may sound strange but Milestones reminds me of my youth at summer camp. I grew up in the city and looked forward to my yearly trips to camp and being out in nature. The various natural notes used here remind me of nature, in the best of ways. I'd be pressed to say I recognize all the notes in this fragrance, although the Champaca is identifiable, but the blend is amazing. I also have Vicki-Lin and really enjoy it. However, while Vicki-Lin has perfectly captured the smell of a campfire it is that same achievement that keeps it from being worn about in normal day life. Milestone, does have some of the same campfire smell as well but it is not as pronounced and blends in well with the other accords. We all wear fragrances for our own and perhaps varied reasons. When I wear this it reminds me of a great and happy time in my life and brings back a bit of that happiness every time I wear it. I usually wear it around the house and when running errands. Given the outdoor vibe of Milestones I'd be cautious of wearing it in an office setting.

I smell chewing tobacco at first & then a distant smoky bbq.

Milestones gave me somewhat of a milestone as a sniffer of fragrances from near and wide. This milestone is one of severe discomfort, disturbance, and a general disillusionment for all of humanity. This is the first time that a perfume I've sampled seems punitive and sadistic. That someone took the time to use precious perfume materials of all sorts, I am guessing maybe floral absolutes, agarwood, beeswax, who knows what else—to create this resulting, eye-watering, suffocating miasma of dread and despair: I am at a loss. This smells like what I'd imagine the Circles of manias, shit, and blood smell like in Paolo Pasolini's film Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma if drenched with iodine and triclosan. Holy Hell, this shit reeks. It gives horrific images of post-apocalyptic carnage, bandages with congealed pus and blood, burnt flesh and burnt skulls under burnt trees. It makes me ill. A previous reviewer states: "Some may find this to be a bit medicinal." Just a bit, you think? Or maybe take it one step farther and consider heaps of medical waste. A biohazard. This so-called perfume is an abomination and if one were to wear it, others would consider that person for being sectioned by their loved ones. It permeates my space like the olfactory equivalent of a wailing banshee, a grim cloak of fetidness that will not soon escape my mind. Milestones is absolutely atrocious and mercifully discontinued from production.

Oh wow...it reminds me of Sayat Nova, but better! The boozyness, the white floral, the ouds, wow... Honestly, I feel I prefer this one, and feel the mixing and layering has been done better. I'd be inclined to seek this one out, had I not already bought Sayat Nova (twice, in fact...!). Another TSVGA I'm gonna test again, but so far, so good... ***EDIT*** OMG a few hours in and the pine tar drops. Man -- it's noxious! Probably a little *too* noxious for me. I really really wanted to like this, but it's just too tarry...

This is a very approachable and wearable scent considering how many different Ouds are included. The pine tar makes the dry down smell exactly like Hawken's Wintergreen Long cut chewing tobacco. It teleports me back to high school, thinking how cool and bad-ass I was with a big dip of chew in my lip. Some may find this to be a bit medicinal.

I’m still a novice to ouds and such. I find this very comforting. There is an earthiness that bring back memories of my childhood in Mexico.
