70's Mood

Love at first sniff. It is flowers with some undertone earthyness but generally it is strong and beautiful patchuli/cola fragrance. Im wearing it and sniff my arms every 3 minutes. Edit: longevity 8+ hours on my skin, I love it more and more and it will be for sure purchase once again.

"So ironic, overwhelming, intense". Well yes. It's deeply ironic that I don't think the 70s did smell of patch, not for the vast majority anyway. I was hoping for more cardamom from this, it's my favourite note but I didn't really find it very present. This reminded me v much of Montale Patchouli Leaves.. it's a bit thicker, earthier, without Montale's DNA room filling synthetic invasiveness, but it's a similar chocolate wafer biscuit ("It's biscuity" was the first thing my son said), getting sweeter n more vanillery n less chocolatey as it dries down. It is such an overwhelming cliche that the 70s smelled of patchouli.. maybe they did for rich people, for hippies in communes (only aristos had enough cash to runaway in the first place), but aside from my own childhood scent memories, all the people I know to ask insist the '70s for them smelled of Ma Griffe or Chanel No.19 or even more likely, Tweed or Charlie. All wreathed in fag smoke & nylon housecoat. But Maffei has made a nice biscuit. I got about 5/6 hours of wear, which is good going for my skin. I would love to try this again, to see if I could find the cardamom, but sadly I only got like a quarter of a ml. If I were going to create a 70s scent, I would love somehow to combine cut grass, creosote, petrichor, n cottage garden flowers, so rarely grown now because so many gardens have gone.
