Mr. Vetiver

Somehow close to the Imaginary Authors aesthetics, some Lana del Rey style. A little bit of smoke, a bit of nostalgia; sweet notes, bitter notes. It could easily be called "Memory Motel", too, and I find it better; Mr. Vetiver, too, suggests enclosed spaces: rooms, halls, abandoned bars. Even though there's a pretty standard vetiver/grapefruit accord in the opening, there is also a certain ashy-ness that takes it from there and grows with time. I was recently inside an ex-school that had been closed for the last 15 years and I recognize this smell: dust and expired lab materials in the chemistry room, old carpets and curtains. This, combined with the persistent, oneiric, cardamom-sprinkled sweetness, creates the tension, the contrast I call nostalgia. Nice work, great for daydreaming or going to sleep.

bought the discovery set - this and jardins the misfah (the original fragrance that inspired me to try the discovery set) are my favorites. this smells like a bathroom in a fancy restaurant, aka pretty similar to aesop's scents. will keep this in the running for a full bottle purchase but ultimately might not be worth the price as it is kind of generic. but so so fresh and spicy yum

The lukewarm reception of this vetiver is baffling! This is a stunning vetiver! Not trying to reinvent the wheel; tried and true as a vetiver frag, this captures all that sort of dried goodness of a great vetiver scent, with an amazing spicy but not heavy undertone from chili pepper, and some stunning aromatic and sulfuric notes to brighten and zest the whole thing up. LOVE.

Fresh and aromatic on the opening and something comes off a little saffron or leather to me. It’s fresh and spicey, it is unique to me a fresh scent. I get a subtle sweetness as well. The vetiver comes out more in the dry down. It leans a bit masculine on paper but on my skin I think it’s right in the middle and as a female who loves fresh spices scents I need a full bottle

Even though I don’t usually enjoy fragrances where vetiver takes center stage, I really liked this one because it’s so refined and well-balanced. Vetiver blends beautifully with grapefruit, creating something that feels both fresh and earthy. Basil; one of my favourite herbal note, adds a green and wonderfully aromatic twist to the whole composition. Being quite particular when it comes to cardamom, I picked up on its presence right away. But here, it’s a more subdued and well-integrated version that suits the overall structure. Some interpretations can feel overly edible on my skin, but thankfully that’s not the case here. The vetiver stays ever-present, almost as if it defines the entire scent: it never fades into the background. There’s also a deep and dark undertone to it. It doesn’t scream summer or winter; it strikes a perfect middle ground, making it wearable year-round. I’d also call it truly unisex.

Mr. Vetiver is a fresh, aromatic, green perfume that could appeal to people who usually don't like this type of scents (like myself): there's in fact some warmth from the spices and the woodiness that balances it out and makes it more interesting. While I wasn't initially crazy about the name since I don't strictly divide fragrances by gender, once I tried it I found myself agreeing with this choice; there is such a cold (and cool), vintage, masculine energy coming from it, I can almost see the character materializing in front of me. Mr. Vetiver indeed. Very masculine leaning scent. But I challenge you to make it a winter day signature! I know it was probably not meant to be, but I get a crisp winter day with full sunshine and drops falling off the icicles. A cup of tea in rocking chair, wearing a sweater, smelling the snow. Woody, gentle and clean. I could sleep in a scent like this! Update: After 24 hours, I still clearly recognise it on my skin. I didn't expect that longevity! Wonderful!

This is in-your-face spicy. Not something I would expect myself to like but I'm pleasantly surprised here. Chili pepper, lime, oakmoss and (of course) vetiver really sell the story. Too masculine for me to wear personally. Mr. Vetiver is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy in that I don't really know why I enjoy it as much as I do, congruent with the very mysterious and enigmatic imagery UNN is successfully evoking with the character "Mr. Vetiver" himself...

I agree with Q80 - it is a typical vetiver frag and the chillies and cardamom fight back and forth with the vetiver overpowering it at times. It is a very pleasant scent nonetheless but not a vetiver standard. Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: 6/10 Cost ratio: 8/10 Overall: 7.5/10 Definitely check it out.

Vetiver with citrusy and peppery notes is what I smell. Smells great on all genders but definitely masculine leaning! I wouldn't buy this or wear it myself but I do enjoy the scent quite a bit. -

I bought Suma Oriental, and got this for a sample...Hard to detect the vetiver, but overall, it is a good oriental - spicy scent. It's a so-so to use, but not for a purchase paying full price.

For vetiver lovers, with strong spicy notes. Fresh, clean, perfect for hot days. For a man, office compatible.

This is a sharp, spicy vetiver. Opens up with a spicy, vetiver note, dry down again spicy vetiver with geranium. It's not my favorite kind of vetiver. Its also gone in 2h.

Earthy vetiver without a chemical scent. A bitter, medicinal feel. A very typical vetiver aroma.

Ordered the discovery set from Une Nuit Nomade, and first off, BEAUTIFUL packing, very evocative and artistic, and super fast shipping. <3 If you're a geranium fan, recommend. It's peppery and sharp and herbal, and unfortunately not my cup of tea. Masculine leaning for sure. Soft projection, average longevity.

Have had some hopes the reviews are wrong because I was looking for a new Vetiver fragrance. This smells very similar to Terre D'hermes (2006). Drydown is very subtle, reminds me of these cheap kiosk fragrances.

Weak and not a pleasant fragrance IMO. I couldn't wait to wash it off. Not for me, at least on my skin. DO NOT blind but this one. I received as a free sample and won't be buying a full bottle.

Honestly, tried to understand this one, but to me just smelled like a nice laundry detergent. The discovery set is 10/10 though. Very pretty and you don't have to blind buy.

Most interesting, Taking a blind guess at Mr. Vetiver, I came up with decorticated, white pepper and vetiver, nicely undersweetened with bergamot. Evidently the note pyramid has other ideas, ...but I'll stick with my concept, because I'm not getting much cardamom or tarragon here. Such note pyramids often play out as interpretive dance, but one might presume that the listed spices, ...blended with those other citrus (lime, grapefruit), ...a diffuse, but detectable, (rose-)geranium note, ...a heavy dose of Givaudan's Pepperwood (love it or hate it), ...and a fractionated cut of vetiver (perhaps only vetiveryl acetate), have joined to create something both more refined and undefined. (Yes, Escentric Molecules does make some similar scents.) So, ...regardless of exact identity, this finely peppered blend succeeds in lending exalted improvement to the sometimes challenging note of vetiver. Here, all earthly suggestions of sod, sweat, and ganja have been reduced into the subliminal. ...revealing instead an exceptionally calm blend of dry wood and sharp spice. This scent perfectly walks the line between the philosophical and luxuriant meanings of Epicurean, ...so enjoy as you see fit.

A burst of vetiver supported by invigorating green tarragon and sour lime, eventually gets overpowered by spices, firstly a clean cardamom, then a savoury, truly spicy, "piri piri". What an odd adventure, vetiver plays a very small part in this, mostly acting as a base throughout, with gorgeous green citrus at the start and later an unexpected edible spicy scent. I think that the spice near the end is too extreme for it be wearable as a "freshie", but it's a really fun experience. Essential Parfum's "Mon Vetiver", which it's being compared to, doesn't have that odd spicy scent but does have a refreshing juicy vetiver, unlike most wood-heavy vetiver scents. The opening is like a cocktail from a hipster bar that makes its own bitters and syrups. The cardamom accents the fresh herb notes that are elevated by the citrus, and the vetiver and mosses become almost become gin-like. It stays like this for a while, but in the later stages of the dry down it becomes more generic. It loses some herbal intricacies but there is still a faint citrus note. Pretty cool. I sprayed this on a card in the evening and the scent was faint but still present the next day. Leans a bit too masculine for me but I’m really impressed with the aromatic first few hours.

Vaguely pleasant in a Terre D’Hermes way once it gets to the skin-scent dry down, I can absolutely understand the negative reviews here. The opening and midway are all over the place and don't work well with my chemistry. To my nose the “vetiver” is buried under the chaos, rather than being integrated into it. Maybe the name is supposed to be ironic? Whatever. This comes across as being different for the sake of being different – and that only. Not for me, but worth a sample for those seeking something unusual.

Absolutely gorgeous approach to the gender! At the beginning I found a clear tone of Cinzano Bianco (or Martini Bianco), when drying down the sweetness starting to lure getting some smokines in. When staying on skin settling all it's ingredients nicely together like burned and cooled fireplace. My favorite of the house.

The vetiver is tamed, almost cosmetic, powdery and refined. Spices, especially cardamom, take the spotlight, resting on a warm, ambery base with a soft touch of vanilla. Just as vetiver roots grow beneath the soil, here the vetiver lives beneath the composition, supporting it without ever taking over.

I like it. I think this falls squarely in the unisex camp. A spicy Vetiver but doesn’t feel like aftershave or cologne. Nice for occasional spring and fall. Edit to say I gave a second spray from a sample and got more hot spicy the second time around. Does make it lean masculine.

Now Mr. Vetiver is peppery cardamom and vetiver and allot of chilies to confuse the vetiver typical note. Some basil, limes, and geranium to get it out of a typical vetiver direction. It's ok but remains a typical vetiver fragrance to me.

Besides the vetiver, there is also a huge chunk of cardamom in this one - with a smoky cedar base. Not your everyday vetiver, despite the name. Gorgeously executed. 100% unisexy 😜☺️ Very autumn/fall appropriate 🙏

There's a reason why there is a "Mr." in the title (but I wanted to try it anyway). I'll give the rest of this sample to my husband. As expected from this house, smells like quality with very good performance.

I smell zwart-wit (a sort of Dutch liquorice) with women’s facial powder with a hint of hospital. Not unpleasant, but I’m not sure if I want to smell like this.

Smells great, really reminds me of the now discontinued D&G Masculine. Not great longevity but one of the best in this range.

No a standard (boring) vetiver. Spicy hot and very attractive. I love the peppery cardamom combination. Very interesting.
