Gunpowder Rose

I know it's not listed as an accord, but at first blush with Union's Gunpowder Rose, I felt like I was smelling tuberose. There was a sort of herbal quality in the mix, and the blend was quite lovely, but by the dry-down, what I smelled was the most beautiful, straightforward representation of a rose I've smelled in perfume. It was not cloying, nor was it overpowering, but simply resonating that lovely accord which never seems to fall out of fashion. This is rose presented in a very contemporary way that is not fussy, but is simply beautiful. This is at the top of my list of MUST haves. UPDATE - later wearings, there is a definite floral opening but I'm not sure if tuberose is the accord - just a combination that may suggest that for an instant. Absolutely gorgeous. I got compliments on this one too, and Le Boyfriend loves it.

I actually went and bought some garden roses at the florist to be able to go back and forth smelling this and the actual flowers! It's honestly uncanny how photorealistic the rose in this is. It's pale pink and almost transparent, but the gunpowder and coal accords anchor the whole thing. After about an hour on my skin, the herbal notes start to come through, very lightly. Since it's winter, I've been layering this with Sonoma Scent Studio's Fireside Intense to ground it even further, and I've had several compliments on that combo as well.

Nice rose with a bit of earthy coal/stone thrown in to make it unisex...really nice sillage on this one...floral without being too floral...

Initial burst of powdery and rose. Then develops into quite a floral scent. But with underlying notes of gunpowder. After an hour or two, a soft rose scent dominates. Quite a fem at heart, and am a little surprised Union have tried to brand it as male frag when they seem to specialise in unisex. Not usually a fan of overly floral frag's but this is definitely one of the few that I recommend.

it's a lovely rose but I don't seem to get much of the famed gunpowder or charcoal notes... my bad, was hoping for something more punchy....

This brand seems to have disappeared from the planet. Does anybody know who sells it? I looked it up at Selfridge's website: absolutely no trace to be found. And they are the only ones listed as sellers... As a lover of the UK's many natural beauties, I'm very curious to find out more about these scents. Update: Seems like they are listed on the Selfridge's website again. Must go and have a sniff when in London.
