Black Bird

A very strong, photorealistic rose opening that reminds me a bit of this house’s Mevlana (but less seasonal/Christmasy). I can’t imagine a rose lover disliking the opening to this fragrance. Now, about three hours after my first spray, the rose has become more subdued and given way to gentle, woody notes with a touch of incense. There might be the faintest whisper of vanilla in the background. It’s a gentle, relaxing, walk-in-the-woods on a cool morning kind of scent. Wearing this makes me want to curl up under a tree with a good book. This is my third from the discovery set (following Running With the Wolves and Mevlana), and while I slightly prefer the strong spice of Mevlana, I think Blackbird is the more accessible, comforting, everyday wear. Haven’t had a miss from Untamed yet and looking forward to exploring the rest of my samples. It’s going to be hard choosing which full bottle to invest in, but I definitely see myself picking up one by the end of this journey.

I was just looking through my old fragrance samples, and could not put my finger on what is this beautiful scent coming from one sample box. It was Black Bird, a perfume I already have a mini bottle of but don't wear often enough. It's one of the most addictive, opulent and juicy roses I own, but can be a little too fruity sweet for me to wear on its own. I like to layer it with Tabac Rouge by Phaedon for a dark Victorian vibe. Almost makes me wish it was fall already so I could douse myself in it.

This is one of my favorite perfumes EVER!! I get primarily rose, spices, sandalwood and a hint of vanilla. The sillage is fantastic and this is a major compliment getter. I find this sexy and mysterious and it always lands me compliments. It has fantastic longevity as well. It smells smooth and almost velvety. It has a similar profile to santal royal by guerlain but honestly, this one is better because it has an added hint of sweetness...It's seriously and intoxicating GEM!!

Why on earth isn’t this house better known?! There is such talent, imagination and quality in every single fragrance, and Black Bird is no exception. I often find fragrances with a notable rose note a bit sickly and same-same but this is deep and interesting with a bright fruity sweetness that plays with the subtle incense that comes through so beautifully. Truly, this is a very special fragrance, suitable for day or night in colder months - well worth a try.

Years ago I wanted something that had a similar vibe to rose jam from lush, but I wanted something more mature, sexy, woody, and spicy, well I had no idea when I got an untamed discovery set that this would be the one I was looking for .. it's a rich jammy rose with intoxicating spices and woody base notes and a bit of incense. Gorgeous. Also the longevity and sillage is impressive as well. Definitely a cool weather and evening scent.

If Dior or Chanel released this perfume, you would not hear the end of it online. That's how good Black Bird is. It's sweet, it's deep, it's sophisticated, romantic, it lasts a long time, what more could you possibly want from a rose perfume? Black Bird opens on an appealing, fruity-floral wave of berries, currants and roses, reminiscent of the opening (and middle?) act of Le Labo's The Noir 29 -- a taste as much as a smell. Within minutes, the flood of aromachems rises up, those familiar soft incense-esque, resin-like -- and very very familiar -- synthetics. These will surround you (and infiltrate your clothes) for days, unchanged. I apply perfume right before bed, to scent my dreams. In that context, Black Bird has its place. But my morning, how I wish it would go home -- or at least show another side of itself. Black Bird's simplistic, synthetic heart is inoffensive -- but its sheer persistence laves nauseas and a sense of unmet expectations in its wake.
