Chocolate Earth

this perfume made me mad. i’ve been let down by so many perfumes before, particularly those with straightforward names like “chocolate earth”. they almost never deliver, but this? it’s exactly what it says on the tin, and more! i get the mushroom and the pine and the cedar moss and ugh, it’s just so good. i didn’t expect to love it as much either because i’m not an earthy kinda gal but i just find it so intoxicating. it makes me want to roll around in the dirt.

Beautiful, smooth, green earthy, slight floral powder, slight pine camphor, creamy woody, chocolate is dusty in foreground. I smell all the notes sit distinctly ontop of warm chocolate dust cloud not blurred no nose noise. Sunyata Smith did great job. Chypra vibes. Very musky. Perfect for weather 70 - 78deg. Im in new orleans today 12APR24 68deg littlie windy overcast cool but still spring warm.

This is a luscious chocolate fragrance. It has hints of earthiness that really ground and round it out. It's very smooth but I feel all of untamed perfumes are very smooth. The chocolate stays present for the whole wear of the perfume. I would say that it sits a little closer to the skin with only moderate sillage but it lasts for at least 10 hours. This is cozy and sexy!

This is a slow burner. I was shocked by it when I got my sample. I did not know what to make of it. I got a strong camphor and black licorice smell, followed by fresh dirt and cocoa powder. A few minutes in I really sense the bitter green marigold note. Earthy is the correct description of this fragrance. Dark too. But somehow fresh. I really like it. But haven’t tested it on the unwitting public yet. Absolutely not a safe blind buy. I think everyone should smell it though. Moderate projection, 6-8hr longevity

This gives me strong black liquorice vibes, but the naturally sweetened Australian kind, not Twizzlers. It’s sweet and savoury, soft spicy, and “natural”. Very unique. Reminds me a bit of Penhaligon’s Legacy of Petra. I could see this being worn well by a bold personality in cold weather. Totally unisex.

I was hoping for more dirt/soil/green accords but all I really get from this is a dark, bitter salted chocolate.

Like pastry made from earth... The opening smells like moist chocolate cake, almost boozy too. Personally it makes me think of black forest cake sans the cherry. As it settles, the chocolate cake facet recedes and the forest floor elements come through. It's kinda funky and dissonant, but pleasantly so? I mostly smell the wet soil aspect of patchouli, mixed with stale brown mushrooms you get from the grocery stores and the sensation of biting into whole fennel seeds. There's other things going on but it's blended/abstract. Weird on paper, but I like how it smells. I can see why the interplay between delicious/ gourmand and inedible elements is polarizing, but I think that what makes Chocolate Earth so interesting. I'd describe Chocolate Earth as inedibly delicious. And no, Chocolate Earth doesn't smell like Lutens' Borneo 1834. That one is a bone dry instant cocoa mix with camphor-medicinal patchouli. Chocolate earth smells wetter, outdoorsy, with both gourmand and herbal-savoury elements. And it has more things going on too. Borneo is pretty linear. To be reductionist, Borneo is Betty Crocker's chocolate cake mix before you add water and Chocolate Earth is after you do so but you add some spices and herbs as welll 😂

All I can say is that despite my hope of a strongly earthy chocolate fragrance, for me, this is an unexpected clone of the original Angel. It’s uncanny. It’s disturbing. It brings me back in time. And unfortunately, give me a headache.
