Phoenix Oolong 鸭屎香

No wonder this perfume comes with 18ml size only, no bigger bottle size and the sprayer spray very little each time, cox this stuff is STRONG. Btw the 鴨屎香 oolong tea scent is very prominent and very realistic, really worth the price.

Compared to Tea Mountain, which is a total disappointment to me, I have a love-hate feeling towards Phoenix Oolong. It is quirky in a way that is different from other perfumes featuring tea or green tea; yet the notes of various spices overpowers the oolong tea note, which somehow borders on the smell of sweaty feet. I tested it both on paper and on skin. Then opening is much more interesting on paper. I get this sticky rice note, earthy and nutty, slightly sharp and synthetic, but still pleasant. Soon it brings out the smell of dried tea leaves, even slightly smoky. There is also the subtle magnolia in the background. It is a good amount of complexity. On my skin it goes straight to smoky and dusty, even a bit sour. As it develops on paper, it gets milky and smoky, and I even get some medicinal bitterness, which resembles the smell of a traditional Chinese medicine shop. My skin eliminates this stage and fast forwards it to the drydown, which is basically a mixture of spices such as licorice, star anise, cinnamon and a bit of curry. Next to the smell of various spices, I get this delicious dried plum smell. Growing up in Asia, I enjoyed dried plums as snacks, its distinctive sweet sour and even salty flavor. The longer it stays on my skin, the more I get the dried plum and licorice notes. The performance is much better than Tea Mountain, especially its sillage, it is much stronger.

While I really like tea scents this one was a fail for me. Compared to other Chinese nice brands which all have a lovely airy, light quality to them, this stuff is unbearably strong. I used a microdrop on the back of my hand and found it nauseating to be honest. There is indeed a strong (artificial) tea note in this (known from other tea scents), but it has nothing to do with real Oolong tea (which is my favourite kind of tea, I have about 30 different ones in my kitchen, I know how they smell). Problem with this apart from being way too strong is that the tea note is combines with something strangely sweet and earthy, and it gives off a smell almost like something mouldy, stinging in my nose. If you like light, soft scents, this one is NOT for you.

It's pretty potent tea smell, very earthy and not really appealing. I can pickup any other notes other than tea. It's not even a nice light floral tea sent it has a barnyard hay like smell to it. Maybe I'm giving a Western's opinion, because I can see anyone wanting to wear this scent all day. I tired it before work and washed it of before leaving the house.

Whoa, it’s like a traditional Chinese herbal tonic — bitter roots, dried herbs, and warm medicinal spice. The cypriol and vetiver create a strong traditional Chinese medicine cabinet vibe, and the oolong reads roasted and herbal rather than fresh or mineral. Guaiac adds a smoky medicinal woodiness, and the magnolia is overwhelmed.
