Magnificat

It's a YES for me! So when I first smelled this from the cap - it was a complete no. But since I paid for it, I went back to it and actually sprayed it once on my wrist. I did not like the opening so much...it smelled odd and ununiform, like a bunch of smells and spices that did not "gel well." As I continued to wear it into the mid, it started to morph... some, but I still felt disjointed about it - it smelled like something I couldn't quite grasp. But once the dry down kicked in - the juice became MAGNIFIQUE! It turned into a warm and smooth, sweet smoky/incense-y like fragrance. And I actually do smell cotton candy, the darker and moistened cotton candy, like when the fluffy candy meets your saliva and it turns it into a soft, solid, sweet like edible mass with the sugar flavor breaking up on your tongue! The cotton candy doesn't swallow the whole fragrance but it is there, playing it's comforting confectionery part. The cotton candy with the spices and the smokiness are so wonderful in the dry down for me - I can dig it!! This is not a "run of the mill" kind of typical fragrance. Nor is it a gourmand. Only some noses that sniff this will enjoy it, but I am happy to have it.

I mostly get the base notes. Even at the start. Smokey resinous vanilla/patchouli/sandalwood just about sums this one up. Unisex for sure. But I would think that a smokey resinous woodsy/vanilla has to sound good to you, for you to enjoy this. Vanilla is not the main character though, but definitely as a supporting role. I would say the Incense is the main character. Smells good, kinda reminds me of Middle Eastern fragrances because of the incense, would make great Winter vacation fragrance (think ski-lodge)... reminds me of getting cozy by the fire. Don't expect a gourmand though (like I was) but this is still wonderful in its own right. EDIT 12/25/24: This has since become one of my favorite cold weather fragrances. It's super underrated. It took me a few times to actually really appreciate and love this. It's gorgeous, grown, sweet incensey amber with vanilla & spice. Feminine, femme-fatale sexy. I can not give this enough praise. Smells like it should cost $200+. Really makes me want to find more from this house because it's so good.

Oh this is gorgeous, it was a blind buy, I got it for a heavily reduced price and couldn’t resist, the opening put me in mind of Tom ford black orchard and I thought this is not what I expected but hold on 5 mins later I got the most gorgeous amber vanilla with a hint of incense, I don’t get much cotton candy but it is sweet however it’s not too sweet or cloying, it’s dark but rather beautiful. The notes shown here are spot on. My only complaint would be that for an extrait it’s not that strong, I can’t comment on the longevity. The packaging deserves a mention it is packaged the way I would imagine a fine champagne would be packaged the bottle is covered in dark blue velvet and it sits on a pillow of white satin, the box opens up at the front, like opening 2 doors. All in all I would describe this as exquisite, well worth the money. I have ordered v canto cicuta which sounds like a dark gothic Rose, looking forward to trying that one.

This perfume was recommended to me by a fellow perfume addict. I was wary, especially bc Terenzi is so hit or miss for me, but I decided to go for it. So glad I did - this was well advised. I am very pleased with my first V Canto experience. I love a good cotton candy note, and this perfume does it really well. It is definitely center stage in this fragrance. The Amber backs it up in a way that leaves it mostly still gourmand to my nose, but keeps it classy and makes me think evening wear. It is a very rich fragrance. I immediately get the feeling that it is long lasting, powerful and refined upon sniffing it. It is not subtle. I feel that the bottle/packaging is very appropriate for this fragrance, bc I could see myself draped in a blue Velvet dress, wearing this perfume, turning heads at the orchestra or socializing at a dinner party. If thick, luxurious blue Velvet had a scent, this would be it.

Beautiful sweet amber scent. I can definitely feel the cotton candy note standing out on my skin, which was unexpected. Because of that, I believe “sweet” should be in the top 3 accords. Overall, it is a very cosy and addictive scent, I do not find it challenging at all - I can’t detect any bitterness or strong incense, which others have mentioned. It’s however a bit alcoholic in the opening and the performance is not great - definitely quieter than I expected, but the scent is so nice that I am okay with just wearing it around the house, where performance isn’t an issue.

Oh my gawd,let me calm down and breathe. This is so beautiful. It very very similar to Serge Lutens Ambre santal I promise you very very similar. It is warm,cozy, the amber is prominent, the vanilla, the benzoin, kinda boozy, very sweet. No it does not over take your olfactory senses. It is simply divine. If you love amber, I don't care how many Ambers you have, you need this in your life. It is 9.5 out of 10 over all for me. This was a blind buy too. Ahhhh I am in love. I need a back up, back up bottle.

Adore this stuff, love the cotton candy / amber / balsamics / smoky combo, and the icing on the cake is I completely accidentally discovered a cheapie scent combo that really resembles this. Al-Rehab choco musk + Nabeel king of oudh layered. It's 90% similar! Mostly similar notes with choco musk; The oudh adds smokiness and the earthyness of the patchouli, and the 10% difference is the cocoa vs cotton candy. But the vanilla makes up the difference in sweetness so super similar :)

This is basically if you took serge lutens Ambre Sultan that did a fusion dance with vanilla ice cream with high quality vanilla extract in it . Last longer than ambre sultan , silage is so good it’s slightly headache inducing only three sprays is enough personally. If from Uk , by this niche instead of those newer dupes coming out this Black Friday. Quality- 8.8/10 Longevity- 8/10 (11 hours) Silage - 9/10 Overall- 8.6/10

Another candy floss, glossed with patchouli that's coming home with me! Imagine walking through a market in India, Nag Champa burning at the temple, beautiful dark haired girls with rose-water scented hair, spices and bright colours. All the while you are eating some neon pink candy floss and using a bunch of patch' leaves as a fan. May sound a ludicrous scent to some, to me it's heavenly!

It's a beautiful artform of a scented treasure. I would not change one thing about it and I can easily imagine loving it many years. It's made out of the most fragrant ingredients that are always a pleasure to the senses in the balmy, woody, sweet and smoky realm. Loved it and would gladly spend more time with it.

Wow I am loving this. It is an ambery fragrance with some cotton candy. The cotton candy isn't super noticeable as a stand-alone note but it mixes well and makes this more of a fluffy ambery scent. I get more cotton candy as it dries down. This is so so good! One of the best amber fragrances.

Smoky, spicy, sweet, exotic incense deliciousness. The amber is warm, burnished gold. The cedar is magnificent entwined w/ my olfactory love Madagascar vanilla. This composition exudes a furtive sensuality that sneaks up on anyone nearby, enticing them w/ each whiff...🤤

Never imagined a cotton candy/amber/patch fragrance could smell as good as this. Unfortunately the performance is abysmal considering the ingredient list and the price point. It barely projects for an hour and then quickly becomes a skin scent by the two hour mark.

I've had this fragrance for a couple of months and while I like it well enough and will wear it, it seems like a fairly straightforward amber fragrance to me, albeit with some extra sweetness and incense thrown in. Very nicely done but well ... it's amber. 🤷🏻♀️

I LOVE Magnificat. The floral opening with amber is absolutely lovely. But I love the middle notes the most, cotton candy notes mixed with amber! Truly truly lovely, and very sensual for me. <3

My elder daughter had just finished high school and achieved fantastic results, so in 2000 I took her to Rome to celebrate before the university academic year commenced in earnest, I think it was around April. We live in Sydney and she had not been to Italy before but had heard me talk about my childhood memories of Rome. It was around Easter time, and we ended up going to multiple mass sessions on the same day because each location was breathtakingly beautiful. Each church had its own unique atmosphere along with numerous art treasures hanging on the walls. Even if you didn’t go to hear the sermon, it was worth basking in the glory and beauty (some may say decadence) of the church itself. Going to mass in Rome was magical, and spraying Magnificat for the first time today took me back to that time. I get incense, but a subdued version of it. The first spray reminded me of the “nut” smell I discerned in Lancôme’s Roses Berberanza but that quickly dissipated and the fragrance evolved into an intimate, slightly sweet incense. For an extrait, this doesn’t project like I expected it to and I am struggling to get any cotton candy - not because I have any interest in smelling it, but because I am curious about what others are perceiving. I don’t feel I have experienced this enough to make a proper call on it, I just wanted to record my initial thoughts on it, I hope to update this review after I’ve tried it a few more times. This is an alluring amber forward scent that is sweet and warm. The amber here is the golden, transparent, fluid type; unlike darker resinous and spicy ambers of the likes of Serge Lutans Ambre Sultan. The sweetness balances amber really well and light incense in the background adds an air of mystery. This perfume does a great job of representing the time period that it is dedicated to: it evokes a feeling of medieval donna who is dressed in velvet dress, perfumed with an exquisite scent and is ready to take part in queen’s court. To me this scent is not that of a young carless girl, it’s a scent of an established woman who knows the rules and how to play by them. To me the projection is pretty good for the first few hours, then becomes a quieter scent that one is able to catch a whiff of with a movement of a hand or a turn of a head. A really nice scent that is worth giving a chance to.

This is a mystical fragrance with a deeply religious vibe, like stepping into an old church or walking through a smoky procession, and I mean that in the best possible way. It’s all about myrrh, incense, sandalwood, and a strong smoky presence, resting on a warm vanilla base. I don’t pick up any of the cotton candy note at all. What I enjoy most is how unusual and unique it is unlike anything I’ve smelled before. I like it, but it’s definitely not my favorite from V Canto. It’s not blind-buy safe, and not beginner friendly for those new to exotic or resinous fragrances. You have to be open to the unexpected.

This is one of my favorite fragrances to wear to bed during the colder months. It’s a very warm, cozy scent, and the projection is softer than many of my other cool weather fragrances, which is what I look for I’m a bedtime fragrance. As an aside, the bottle is one of my favorites in my collection. It’s clear that this house cares about their work, and you definitely get a lot for what you pay for considering the price is not as high as some comparable offerings (Bouquet Ideale by Xerjoff comes to mind).

Amber. Yes, a very classic amber. Beautiful with a smoky, incense touch. Seductive and sexy perfume. Smells nothing like Kashimire to me. Nothing indolic either. If I close my eyes and focus, I might smell a slight oud. Easily wearable and most appropriate for cooler weather. Beautiful packaging and very long lasting.

One of my favorite fragrances - amber vanilla or vanilla amber. Only blind buy if you like amber and love vanilla (and vice versa) - this is like resinous cashmere (of course there is not such thing but if there was, this would be it). Don't blind buy this, Its a very unique scent, I do think this scent works better for woman. but i can still easily consider this unisex. If you like burnt sugar smell you would like this. The dry down is really pleasant. The incense is churchy. I just really dislike burnt sugar smell on me. Maybe Ill give this another try in the winter. Edit: Its starting to get colder now in my area, Its lovely on colder nights. Im realising that this DNA isnt really my style. Its in no way bad, Its just not my taste. It really gives Catholic church that is having a fair in the backyard by the graveyard on Halloween and they are giving our cotton candy with out coloring.

Super sweet amber that dries down a bit woody and dark, the cotton candy opening is honestly a bit sickly but it gets better. Just alright I guess.

I decided to throw caution to the wind and give another Terenzi composition a go. I even went FB after reading all the glowing reviews of, Magnificat, on various perfume sites. Well, Magnificat just turned into yet another reeking epic fail, on my skin. I can honestly say, it's not the juice, it's me! For some reason, the Patchouli used by Paolo and his sister Tiziana, turns into a headache inducing, stomach churning gasoline/rotting meat odor on my skin. I know oils are used in their creations, so testing on clothing would've given me an oil stained top to go with the headache and nausea. I had this same problem with Kirke, by Tiziana. I was hoping for a long lasting incense dominant frag, and all I got was gasoline, queasiness and a need for a dark soundproofed room and some "Plop Plop Fizz! Fizz! Oh what a relief it is!" The same result when I sampled Erba Pura. These fragrances are like olfactive tattoos: painful to remove and aren't easily removed by soap and water. After scrubbing a few layers of skin away, lesson learned. Stay far away from Patchuli (and Oud) and ALWAYS sample first!

This perfume is more of an abstract to me. And it's not for everyone. It paints a picture. Takes me to places. It is beautifully crafted. Feels natural, expensive, mysterious and almost mystical - as if ancient recipe came to life. It's not dated or nostaligic, it's more like a forgotten secret has been revealed and then remastered. It is a glamorous, velvety and intense olfactory journey, which I struggle to place wearing it in day-to-day life. To my nose, this fragrance first and foremost features a very well done geranium note, and even emphasizes on those aspects, which are very unique to one particular type of geranium - and it is called Geranium macrorrhizum (some may know it by the name bigroot cranesbill, others by the name zdravets). It's a very aromatic plant - its scent is dense, velvety, herbal and slightly pungent (expecially the leaves), a bit bittersweet, rich, used in aromatherapy and in many rituals in Orthodox Christianity on the Balkans. I can envision someone noble, who's in their purple velvet ceremonial robe, decorated in all the symbols of the glory of his divine institution, leaving this regal aromatic trail behind as they walk on by. Especially with the prominent incense note on top... I get transported to another place, another time ... Magnificat does have a sweet resinous (ambery-benzoin) smoky mellow base (a bit like Shaghaf oud, but over tons upon tons of raw frankincense, or like LADDM), giving impression of luxury and royal tradition. But I also feel a thick layer of earthy/dusty mineral notes, as if you took pure granite and crushed it into powder, which gives me even more of a high end grand medieval stone construction vibe - cathedral, castle, tower. It is a unisex perfume and I, as a woman, can absolutely accept it as feminine enough, and very deep and sensual (the way Black Orchid could be - sensual, yet formal, depending on circumstances), but it suits best a winter, grandiose, royal/regal ceremonial event, in a cathedral or a castle, where I'd expect that popes, cardinals and the majestic queen-to-be-crowned herself should smell like nothing less than V-Canto Magnificat. If I have to keep imagining, how after the ceremony, as a guest or a common spectator, one can go buy a little souvenir from the gift shop, for keepsake, as a reminiscence of how all these glamorously royalties smelt like on this special day - that'd be ... EA 5th Avenue Royale in a little souvenir bottle covered in velvet, without a title - the perfume of which is nicely alluding to the far more complex Magnificat, stripped from all that regal glam, where the demanding aromatic geraniums are turned into carefree juicy raspberries, so that you can wear it casually, any day. The way I see it - the composition feels rich, thick, heavy, velvety, leathery, incensy, sweet and unisex and the notes that pop to me are paired in the following impression: rosy aromatic + ambery resinous + velvety mineral, for cold weather and special occasions (either very sexy, or very conservative). I agree with the LADDM comparisons, but the geraniums add a special twist to it. I'm glad to own a bottle, if not for regular wearing in the cold weather, at least for regular appreciation of the artistry behind and beyond it. If you are looking for a similar, but simplistic feel for everyday use, try Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue Royale - it's not Magnificat, but you will be able to wear it more often and keep Magnificat for all those magnificent moments you savour it for.

I just received this today so it’s a first impression. It needs to settle from shipping (constantly movement and temp fluctuations and it’s 104 in Texas as of today) and I find my nose needs a few wears of a fragrance before the full pyramid of notes blooms for me. First impression is I really like this! It’s not as sweet as I thought it would be. It’s very well blended, powdery and resinous!! I’ll update next week. Side note. What makes a fragrance an Extrait? I thought it would be a lower alcohol to oil concentration? If so this Extrait is an 80% volume. Can anyone enlighten me? Edit: 2/2024 I recently acquired a decant of Dior’s Mitzah which is a gorgeous incense fragrance with honey, labdanum and rose. When I was testing it, another fragrance kept coming to mind- it’s Magnificat!! The cotton candy in this creates a similar sweetness the honey creates in Mitzah. The stone powder creates a slight metallic tone, I get the same metallic tone in the opening of Mitzah- both have rose in the background, both dry down to a sweet, opaque powdery amber/incense. Delicious!

Another day, another ebay.. I would be disappointed full price for this, is not what I was expecting.. It's not the bomb, or even a bomb. It's quiet to me. It's like Pink Sugar (here me out) but like an octave lower, a few hours darker & with a little smokiness. The sugar is smoked instead of burnt. & it's less sweet. & whether it's supposed to be there or not I get barely perceptible hint of licorice, unlike the v obvious in Aquolina. Might layer the two n see what happens. My long suffering child, who gets all sorts wafted under his fresh young nose for comparison, shrieked "Burnt grass & horse poo!" on being confronted with this one. First few times I dismissed that as him exaggerating or just being silly because he wasn't in a mood to be smelling.. But I just noticed what he means.. mercifully it doesn't last long, 2 mins tops on opening, but it was a tense 2 mins.. its now dropped down into dark pink sugar again but with a strangely oily incense.. So far so odd.

Patchouli enveloped in the sort of candy floss-like sweetness is what Magnificat is. There is superb amber in it with the incense and smoky touch. This is actually a sexy and seductive one that is easy to wear and is very appropriate to wear in all kinds of weather, Packaging is just amazing, the bottle is lovely and the juice is beyond expectations. Classy!! I am using this fragrance for the past 6 months and I am in love with it. seriously I don’t feel like need any place, occasion, or time to wear it. This is my all-time kind of scent that I can pick any day and every day without second thought whether this will be good today or not. As I am pretty sure this is good any time of the year. I just love this one. very amazingly done amber I must say. Vibes I get from this one is cozy, warm, and a little boozy. Truly a rich fragrance that feels luxurious and lasts long. Highly recommended piece! Though, must try on your skin before you buy it.

Magnificat justifies its name truly and imparts enormous longevity and silage. This unisex scent is more of amber accord with the woody, musky notes in base. I would prefer this spicy and warm scent for fall and winter nights. Opening of this scent gives amber backend well with ylang-ylang and rose. In the heart of this, one can smell more of sandalwood and cotton candy with amber in background giving it feminine touch and adding sweetness to this scent. Dry down is all about the sandalwood, patchouli, vanilla, benzoin and musk. I love wearing this scent and would love the same on a man too. This is a genuine unisex scent with the sensuality, romance and deepness in it. Packaging and presentation is beautiful and this is highly versatile. If you are into amber scents, go for it without any second thought. Simply divine masterpiece. Recommended for sure!

This fragrance opens on a lovely blend of amber with yellow flowery notes such as Ylang-Ylang and rose. The second stage of the composition is sweet and gourmand thanks to the caramelized sugar ambiance of the Cotton Candy note with the creamy and woody facet of sandalwood. The dry down is definitely the most sexy stage of this composition which develops its musky and woody side with the Patchouli over a sweet bed of benzoin. A lovely fragrance to wear preferably on colder seasons of fall and winter.❄️🍂🍁 If you are a fan of perfumes like Midnight in Paris by Van Cleef and Arpeels you will surely dig this creation. Longevity is between 4 to 5 hours on my skin with moderate projection. This is an intimate scent that stays close to the skin but that will radiate around you leaving a sexy and semi-gourmand sillage on your way.🧡

Magnificat is a true masterpiece and one of its kind with the amber, woody, warm spicy and smoky accords at its best along with some of sweet, vanilla and powdery ones. Opening notes in this one is rose with some of amber and ylang-ylang. Rose is very nicely blended without being overbearing in it while the heart is cotton candy, geranium, sandalwood and amber. Cotton candy herein is pleasant and not too extra sweet. The dry down is vanilla, benzoin, incense, patchouli, sandalwood and musk. Performance is excellent with long lasting longevity and enormous silage. This looked like a masculine scent to me rather than unisex one due to its warm and spicy notes. Preferably this must be worn in colder seasons like winter, fall and in nights due to its warm accords. Sexy, deep and an amazing scent. Superbly done. Thanks!

This is smoky, ambery, incense with a touch of sweetness. Once I put this on every now and then I keep sniffing my wrist. This is so good and addictive. Another blind buy and I happy with this purchase. When I first sprayed, oddly this smell so familiar but just can't pin point to what perfume. I've been wearing this and the more I wear it, I feel that this perfume suited to be worn in the evening as I feel it has this sensuous sexy vibe to it. I think it is also work both in cold and warm weather just maybe you can slow down the trigger if you are living in a warm weather climate. Does this have the church vibes ? Yes, it does and it is so good. Unless you don't like incense, amber & smoke then maybe you shouldn't blind buy this. Now I'm intrique whether I should get Mirabile too as it's highly rave here.

Magnificat, Magnificat and Magnificat. This is what is on mind every morning after my shower. HaHa! This has truly made me mad about it. The candy floss in this tossed up amazingly with the patchouli makes it more beautiful. Above this, the amber! WOW! The amber in this is classic, beautiful that have incense and smoky feel to it. The sexiness and seduction in this are way beyond anyone’s expectation. To me, this smells like kashimire, pure and insane kashimire. This is so easy to wear anywhere and everywhere and is perfect one for the cool weather. Winter, fall and cold nights are perfect to wear this one. Packaging is totally luxurious and the perfume is doubtless amazing. Longevity is long lasting and the silage is enormous for this beast performing scent. Perfectly done scent! LOVE <3

Classic masterpiece I would say. Magnificat as name reflects is something that is magnificent, you feel like in another world altogether. It is seriously nostalgic, velvety, glamorous and mesmerizing. There is amber, benzoin resinous sweetness with the mellow smoky base making it feel as royal and luxurious one. This one is deep, sensuous and best fit in winters or in the royal events. With the initial spray, you would smell more of amber with yellow floral notes of roses and ylang-ylang which would settle shortly in sweetness of gourmand because of caramelized sugar with woody and creamy notes. Then comes the most loveable phase of this scent, dry down, that is more of woody, musky, benzoin with the patchouli. Easy to wear and long lasting for sure. In love with this beautiful scent!

I blind bought this for a good price-- I love dark incensey gothy perfumes. A quick tissue/paper test gives me cotton candy incense- which is rather disappointing/generic. I hope it wears differently because this is like a weaker (and less interesting) Black Sugar from Aquolina- something that used to be very very cheap and worth every penny. Also smells a lot like Something Wild by Derek Lam. Presentation is top notch tho! And I DO like it, it's just not worth the big price. WOW! My tissue test from Friday (Monday now) is very very AMBER! Powdery amber with some resin/balsamic. NICE! What a changer! My proper wearing had more depth, but I'm still finding sillage/potency to be depressing despite my tissue test lasting 3+ days.

it's an older brother of Kashimire, it's warm and sweet, so deep and dense, leaves a sense that you are relaxing in your sweetest dreams. I smell lots of amber an incense with vanilla which I love so much, may be thats why I feel comfortable with it, and of course it's beautiful when it's more cold than hot

Loads of benzoin, a nice amber and Ylang. Reminds me of Bijou Romantique from Eldo. It's beautiful and almost a realistic cotton candy scent. Cons: The drydown is amazing. (Amber, patch, musk, cloves).

One beautiful woody fragrance with the hint of sweetness. It is more on the female side. It is very sexy and mature, but playful and elegant. I love it for autumn sunny weather. It lasts all day.

Incense with a slightly vanilla and sweets (not the cloying one) and i guess it's the cotton candy. So as well Amber & Patchouli with an essence of myrrh. A nice combination.

Really nice, this! Resinous & a little smoky Ambery scent. Oriental vibes, something to smell in a Dubai mall, in a good way.

It does remind me of Mitzah by Dior and I just had to have it! Good performance, interesting bottle. Happy to have it!
