Valentino Uomo Born in Roma

*** A necessary introduction *** This is another fragrance unfairly beaten in the fragcomm mainly for ideological reasons, in this case against L'Oréal's new business decisions with the "Uomo" line. Paradoxically, Valentino Uomo "Born in Roma" It is one of the best-selling new releases, specially in the UK & Europe: A clear example of the serious disconnection that sometimes occurs in the fragcomm with the mainstream reality. *Another important question: I've read "Invictus" many times in VU "Born in Roma" reviews. I've never liked "Invictus" or any of its flankers (for me). ... But I like this one. So draw your own conclusions. *** Review for Connoisseurs and Perfume Freaks: *** First impressions are often wrong... But you already know that, right? So you don't need to read my review, because you have really tested the fragrance well... Or not..? *** Review for stylish and fashion people: *** This is a very pleasant, modern and trendy fragrance. Furthermore - which is not always the case - it's very well done and blended: VU "Born in Roma" is more polished, pleasant and less "synthetic" than many other similar proposals on the market. I usually chew gum, especially strawberry - for your breath it's better than a strong lemon or herb smell ... Right? - . This fragrance basically smells like bubble gum, violets, a light watery breeze with woods and a clean vetiver base. The violet leaf stands out with the mineral and salty accords, which give it a fresh and aquatic undertone with a non-cloying sweetness, very pleasant. Sage and ginger add aromatic nuances and accentuate the freshness, while woody notes and an increasingly prominent vetiver are revealed during the development and dry-down of the fragrance (my favorite part). - Longevity: 6 to >8h. - Projection: Average 2h, Moderate 2 to 3h, Soft the rest. - Mood & Ocassions: It's juvenile and very trendy. Not necessarily for youngsters, but I don't see it suitable for the typical serious blue collar guy; there are things that simply do not match well. ... But if the same guy wears a dark suit for a date with his partner in a cool restaurant, things change 180 degrees with this scent. - Conclusion: It is what it is: Fresh, sweet, charming, slightly provocative... That's all. Maybe with this fragrance you have to like strawberry gum, but not all chewing gums are the same... And this is the good one.

Yo I absolutely love this scent. I walked past it for so long despite adoring the bottle design. For some reason for the longest time in my fragrance journey, I despised sweeter scents, in particular the one million types and the 9pm types of bubble gummy cloying clubbing sweetness. I always kind of put this one in that box for some reason, big mistake, because when I revisited it, I finally realized the beauty of this one, Valentino is the best to do sweetness in the designer game, I have/had a few and they have been fantastic. This edt version has this mineral fresh sweetness that is totally addictive and uplifting, classic designer dna, smellls sort of like the fragrance/makeup area at Macy’s. Overall: this stuff lasts and projects, I don’t go nose blind easily, it’s a one of one type of sweetness the way it’s so damn fresh, the bottle is sick, the line of flankers is awesome, Valentino is really the only sweet scents I have, otherwise I like more watery fresh, airy, lightly woody scents, as you can see by my collection, so this sweetness fits in that group with the others miraculously. Hats off to Valentino because they are a great house and make the most addictive scents. Anyone who hates on this scent in particular I believe is too deep into the hobby of fragrance and lost the plot, this stuff just does it right, and I can see how this wouldn’t be preferred by some, like me for a while there, but to say it BAD or overrated or whatever is ignorance and I don’t trust that persons opinion. This one is 10/10 sleeper SPARKY OUT

Immediately on the opening this is clearly a more mass appealing fragrance but in an extremely appealing way. There is a strong floral woody note on the opening. With the dry down this fragrance improves remarkably, the floral note losses its overpowering nature and a slightly spice almost salty notes with hints of an almost mineral nature that is very pleasant starts to shine. The salty mineral like note here is almost oceanic in a nature. On the far end of the dry down (about 30-45 minutes in) there is a subtle note of violet that I enjoy greatly. I am a lover of violet in fragrances so this isn’t surprising at all. Regarding performance. The longevity shocked me in all honesty, I got 8 hours total on skin and around 6 on clothes. 7 out of the 8 hours on my skin was very strong, with the last hour being a closer to the skin scent. An 8/10 here. The projection on this was amazing as well, it definitely projected outside my arm range for the 7 hours of strong wear. I would give it a 8/10 here. Overall this was a shockingly good fragrance, I’m not sure exactly why but I just didn’t expect this type of performance and delightful scent profile from Born in Roma but I’m very pleased that it was there. I would give this an 8/10 overall!

This is one of those scents that's grown on me with repeated wear. When I first smelled it I liked it just fine but thought it was a bit generic in a mass appealing kind of way. But the more I've worn it, the more I like it. It's a really well blended scent mixing fruity, floral, and woody notes into an accord that is fresh, smooth, and so likeable. I get a bit of mineral element but not full on salty, and overall this one doesn't feel like a marine fragrance to me. There's a little sweetness, a tinge of spicy thanks to the ginger, and overall it's masculine leaning but not aggressive. It's also super versatile for any time of year, time of day, or occasion. In retrospect, I think my initial impression was tempered by the fact that this one doesn't have any particular note that stands out making it memorable. Now I've come to consider it skillfully blended and with much more character than I first realized. For what it's worth, it's also my 20 year old son's favorite scent from among my 60+ scent collection. Good stuff indeed!

This doesn’t deserve half of the hate it gets - depending on how you look at it. If you look at the “Born in Roma” line as a new line, separate it from the original, you have a line a of serviceable scents that work in most situations. Not original. Serviceable. These are all mass pleasing scents that pull inspiration from the other top selling scents in the market. There is nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with the fragrances. This one is exactly what the “reminds me of” says it is - Valentino’s take on Invictus. It’s sweet, a little bit of fresh spice, clean, and new-masculine. If you enjoy this type of scent, you will enjoy this. An easy reach for any occasion, decent scent trail and longevity, and a compliment getter if there ever was one. If you don’t like those things - that’s ok. Stick to your oud - stick to your earthy Vetivers and dirty leathers - no one is trying to take them away from you, but don’t act like this is something it’s not, a bad scent.

This has to be one of my new favorite male scents! My boyfriend got samples of this, and despite usually disliking masculine scents, I decided to test it on my skin for fun. It opens with freshness – I’m not too familiar with mineral notes so I associated mineral + salt with marine notes, regardless, I love it. But how the scent developed a few hours later was my absolute favourite part. The top and middle notes disappear, and you’re left with this gorgeous sweet woody scent, that is quite unisex! The sweetness took me by surprise, and I couldn’t stop sniffing my wrist. 8 hours later the scent was still very much there, but now even softer with the sweetness gone and some vetiver lingering. The longetivity and projection are insane! Now, would I wear this on myself again? Probably not, as it’s still a male scent, but it’s definitely addictive still even smelling it on my own wrist, and I’d love this scent on a man for sure!

I am kind of new to Valentino line and I have to say this is growing on me. It smells like Old Spice Timber which was my favorite deodorant and I rebought it just because of this scent. Coral and this one are similar but I find this one to be more sweet floral than coral. I heard someone on youtube this smells like hair spray, I am sorry but you will not ruin this great scent with that opinion. To me it still smells like Old Spice timber which has some sandalwood and both Coral and this one has giving me some sandalwood vibes. Projection on ths one can be amazing but not monster about 2 feet or so but sillage is fairly weak as usually last around 4 to 6 hours on my skin. For the price there are better lines but I find this one to be one of the best date night scents in my opinion. Spray away my friends!

Fresh, mineralic, slightly sweet. Bog standard mass appealing fragrance that I can confidently say will pick compliments and never be disliked. Moderate longevity, 5-6 hours tops, definitely something which needs reapplying at midday. Haven’t smelled the newer EDP, but this certainly still holds up, only reason I’d swap was if the new frag had far better longevity. TLDR: safest blind buy of your life if you’re under 25 years old, fresh youthfullness in a bottle. (Side note, the cap is terrible and doesn’t stay on the bottle at all, when I carry this in my bag with my I find myself digging around to find the cap since it constantly falls off. Not a dealbreaker, but shouldn’t happen with a 100+ pound fragrance.)

Love this fragrance. My favorite sort of freshie right now. Its aromatic, woody and the violet in here is done very well. While its still a masculine fragrance its rounded out by subtle sweetness that sets it apart from the rest of the genre in my experience. Performance is fine what I expected from it as EDT. Opening is a little synthetic and pretty screechy but that's exactly what I want for a freshie. Its the mineral notes that make it smell so abrasively clean and its addicting to me. Overall Its fresh, sterile almost metallic, and has a focused violent which is my favorite note. I like putting this on when I get out of the shower. I also I rarely ever layer fragrances but when I do its with this 9.45/10

One of the most iconic daily-wear designer fragrances. It’s an easy-to-wear masculine scent with a woody, mineral, slightly aquatic profile. It feels mature and masculine, but still youthful enough for younger people to pull off comfortably. I found myself genuinely loving it while wearing it. It’s just incredibly appealing, pleasant, and easy to enjoy. Performance is not amazing — around 4 to 5 hours of longevity with moderate projection — but it still gets a surprising number of compliments. Overall, this is one of the great everyday designer scents. It feels overhated now and does not get talked about nearly as much as it should. In my opinion, it deserves more attention and should be worn more often.

Maybe I'm just new to the fragrance world or just starting to discover new scents whatever, but good god man I am so obsessed with this. Within only 3 months I have deleted half the bottle. I asked my fiancee's Mom how I smelt with this on and she said 10/10, then every cologne after that she said "yeah, its ok, but nothing smells better than that first one". Fiancee said I smelt like watermelon which I really don't get but other reviews seem to. Also, this reminds me of Rasasi Hawas and I felt like I was crazy for thinking that, yet the #1 fragrance on this and Hawas for "this perfume reminds me of" is Invictus!! Therefore I can't be that crazy when they both have the same similar fragrance, right?

Pretty average aromatic/woody summer fragrance. Smells pretty nice, starts kind of synthetic and a bit alcoholic, dry down is better and smoother, but also kind of a generic smell. Longevity is nice, I usually get 6-8 hours with this. Sillage is on the lower end, especially during winter this is basically unnoticeable unless really close to skin, it is an EdT after all. Overall Valentino Born In Roma EdT is a basic, mass-appealing, spring/summer fragrance. I wouldn't say it's unique, but it does still smell good though. I wouldn't highly recommend it though (personal opinion), since it is a bit overpriced for a simple scent. Coral Fantasy is in my opinion way better and you should get that instead.

A super-versatile, soft aquatic (more aromatic than aquatic), not too salty or sweet. Born in Roma has a consonant woodiness contrasted by slightly dissonant mineral notes that make it agreeable but not to the point of being a pushover. I blind bought yellow dream first (not sure why I picked that one) and wasn't thrilled with it. It didn't smell bad but wasn't much different than something like Stronger With You and was a bit too sweet for me. I like this one much more. Longevity is good, but it doesn't project heavy, so you can wear this anywhere and know you smell great without wondering if you oversprayed. A strong "like" for me, I'm now curious about the Intense version.

This was my first ever fragrance as a guy I bought. Maybe it’s just because I haven’t smelt enough fragrances, but this is one of my most favorite fragrances so far. I feel like it’s just perfect for school. It’s fresh with a bit of sweetness, and that’s what I like about it. It does take a few sprays to last the whole school day, about 5 for me. In my opinion, it is a bit overpriced due to the longevity being a bit short, but it is a EDT. Overall, if you want a fragrance for school as a guy, this one should be on your list. It’s fresh, and has a bit of sweetness also. It’s perfect for all year round, maybe not in the winter as much, but overall pretty versatile.

In my opinion this is the best Valentino Bir, it is not as good as Uomo Intense or Uomo 2014 but this fragrance has something special, it starts with a mix of mineral and salty flowers, then something spicy and a little sweet appears, all with a dry wood that makes it balanced and unique. I wore it throughout my time at university and it was also one of my first designer perfumes and I love it, it is also my girlfriend's favorite fragrance, so in conclusion, this is a very special daily fragrance, it is perfect for every day if you are young and don't want to smell like everyone in the collage with blue, ambroxan, coconut or very sweet vanilla fragrances.

Amazing everyday fragrance, fresh and clean slightly spicy, the mineral Notes are a bit harsh I think I tasted it in my throat when I first sprayed it, The top notes are my favorite, but unfortunately they don’t last long and the dry down leans more feminine and sweet, its a bit synthetic but i don’t mind it in this fragrance longevity is 5-7h but it becomes close to the skin, on clothes it lasts longer maybe even days but it mostly just smells sweet. One time my bro sniffed my neck and said he can’t smell it maybe he was trippin I'm not sure. Overall the scent itself is pretty good 8.5/10 recommend

Kesinlikle tatlı denemez ama çiçeksi ve ıslak odun gibi kokulara evriliyor nazikçe. Binlerce kopyası olan fresh maskülen kokunun özgünce yorumlanıp kendi ayakları üzerinde durabilen mükemmel hali. Açılıştaki tuz anladığım kadarıyla batch’lere göre değişebiliyor.

My favorite daily driver. This scent is pretty universally liked in my opinion. The fact that it doesn't perform stronger is lowkey a good thing as otherwise it would be a more special occasion scent. You can use this year round but I definitely think it stands out more in warmer climates as its more on the fresher side than woody, although it definitely has woody notes as well. Definitely can't go wrong with this and will always be something you can reach for if you don't know what to wear.

Here's your all purpose scent. I love this so much, 8.5/10 the one thing that's lowering the score is because the longevity is sadly not the best. Scent wise, it's like mineralic and salty with a sweeter haze underneath, it sounds kinda nasty but this is a beautiful combo. The very beginning is kinda sharp but that fades quick and from then on I have no complaints. Overall I do really love and recommend this scent for anytime, day night winter summer, it's just an amazing versatile scent.

This is honestly one of the best fragrances ever (in my opinion). Not only is it a beautiful long lasting, scent, it’s also so versatile. You could wear it to almost any event, and it would fit the occasion perfectly. It lasts for up to 12 hours on my skin, and I can smell it on my clothes days later. In my opinion, better the other variations by far (although I love them too), and definitely worth getting. If you were only to buy 1 fragrance in you whole life, I would recommend this.
