Embrace Rose Buds and Vanilla

I loved this! Vera Wang Embrace Rosebuds and Vanilla was the first rose perfume that I actually liked! Most rose perfumes up to that point in my life, which was my mid thirties, gave me grandma or stuffy vibes. This was soft, airy, dewy fresh pink roses with a slight cozy vanilla. I think the magnolia and iris came through too and gave it uniqueness. My teenage daughter loved it back then too! I am in my forties now and she’s in her 20’s, but she may still have her body spray! I’ll have to ask. I would love to find a dupe as it seems to be overpriced now on Ebay. Maybe discontinued? This may be one of my all time favorite rose perfumes, but I do remember it not lasting long as others have commented so finding a similar scent that has better longevity would be awesome! I find the right rose very comforting and vanilla as well so this is a perfect pairing. Update: I scored and found a bottle at Burlington! I believe it was around $15 for a small bottle. It still doesn’t last, but still very pretty! And I have Mancera Roses and Vanilla, not alike at all. That is a deeper woody rose, more sexy and heavy. This is a more demure light rose with just a hint of warmth.

Well if it had Bergamot and Amber it'd remind me more of Hot Couture but to me it belongs in the same "sweet (jam-like sweet) yet sophisticated" category. But I do get some of the Mandarin(the only fruit in the composition!), it's an unexpected lovely twist. Overall this is very woody to my nose. When I was little we used to visit in Late April our winter abode in a green suburb of Athens close to the mountain. It was still chilly there, the house was in the pine forest and my mom made rose sweet(we cook the rose petals - we use the 100 petal pink or red roses for it- in sugar with rose water it's basically rose jam,only richer we eat it on its own or add it on vanilla ice cream), so the combo of the wood smell and this "rose dessert" is contained in this fragrance that's why it was love at first spray for me. Perfect chilly weather scent. Longevity on me is fantastic. Update: Now that I am getting deeper into the notes game, I realize that Iris is that magical note that gives perfumes a powdery almost doll-like sweetness (see La Vie Est Belle, Sensual Amber BBW, KKW Night Iris).

To be honest, Rosebuds and Vanilla looked and sounded so boring that I almost didn't try it. Some of these reviews make it sound really juvenile and basic, so it wasn't on my radar. But I did get around to sampling and was shocked. This is not just a dull rose and vanilla powder! There is a cedar-like nip and something almost boozey that I find very unique about this! In fact, I am terrible at detecting rose notes unless a fragrance is almost a rose soliflore, and had I not read the word "Rose buds" I'm not sure I would know! It seems like a hypnotically sweet, a bit powdery spicy-woody rose. I have nothing else like it. This is now in my top favorite florals. Seems like a winter or fall pick for me with that boozy, spicy vanilla and woods. Now I am VERY curious about the rest of the Embrace series.

Re-adding my review since I was not signed in below... I'm not drawn to florals and generally never, ever wear them. This one is different, or maybe I just found I like rose, or both. This is not sweet, powdery or overpowering. (I may have just learned the difference in powdery and soft). As soon as this dries on my skin the sandalwood comes barely peeking out from under the rose and vanilla. I know... call me weird, in this it reminds me of cedar shavings/bedding I used in my hamster cage as a kid. This is a beautiful smell and in no way offensive or overpowering. I love it. So, to my nose, this fragrance is mainly rose, vanilla, then the slight cedar-ish smell. After the first 30 mins or so, it sits fairly close to my skin. This is lovely. I am surprised at how much I like it.

I actually REALLY like this one for the simple fact it smells exactly like the name implies. Rose and vanilla. Soft, sweet and simple, I have been wearing this to work since I bought a bottle for $15 last week. Even my mum loves it and is already trying to steal my bottle! We both adore Stella and whilst this is by no means even close to the beauty of Stella, it is a lovely soft, playful rose scent. I have started layering this with other perfumes and on sale it's just a bargain fragrance in my opinion.

I love love LOVE this fragrance! It's so romantic and feminine, and different from any other scent I have in my collection. Powdery warm vanilla and sweet rose, a touch of musk and iris, and detectable sandalwood in the dry down. I sprayed this on to test and walked around the store with my nose pressed up to my wrist and decided I needed to own it. Love love love. I could see this becoming a favorite for me :)

This perfume is gorgeous when you first spray it. Like a freshly cut bouquet of roses. I don't get any vanilla at all from it, and unfortunately the scent is gone on my skin after two hours, which is really disappointing as it smells divine. It is not terribly expensive, so reapplying will not break the bank. I will use it up and repurchase because it is a safe, beautiful, romantic scent.

It is quite lovely! It is very soft, pretty, and feminine. Definitely nailed the balance of rose and vanilla. I'd describe it as innocently romantic, yet comforting. I feel like if I was a princess in a fairy tale, I'd wear this, lol. It's not extremely complex, but if you love these notes, I'd highly recommend it.

I won the whole entire collection in a giveaway and fell in love with all of them. Embrace Rose Buds and Vanilla is truly a favorite of mine. It's inexpensive but screams classy. I can totally smell the rose , vanilla and magnolia notes. I recommend this scent to any one who likes rose top notes.

This is opens as a rose dominated scent , with vanilla sharing equal time, a light sandalwood and musk appear in the drydown, I really liked this scent, affordable, crisp and beautiful.

Reviews seem to be all over the place on this - just goes to show how individual even something mass produced can be! I’ll add my take on it - I like it. A lot. At first spray the vanilla is the strongest and I am not the biggest fan of the opening. I love roses and vanilla but this just seems mishmashes here. But wait, there’s more. About 5 minutes in, I smell the most gorgeous rose scent potpourri I think I’ve ever smelled. Not the plastic fantastic kind, but the kind where you’ve gathered and dried all the ingredients yourself, and even threw in a vanilla orchid (yes, they are real) for fun. Not super long lasting, maybe 3 hours, but a pretty good 3 hours. I’d agree with the review who said they pick up a little herbal scent, but it’s a good thing in my case. I think I picked it up a year or two ago for really cheap at my local discount store.

Rosebuds and Vanilla is a perfume with three distinct phases on me, and I have a different opinion of each. It starts out on me as a lush rose soliflore. I quite like this part. I don’t smell much else other than roses at this point. After a short time, say 15 minutes or so, there is a note development that adds a grassy, dry bitter element to the initial rose. I like the opening better than this mid phase. The dry down is when the vanilla finally emerges for me, the bitter note fades entirely and the rose is just slightly still there. I like this phase the best and I wish it smelled more like this throughout. The only problem is that by the time this last phase is reached, the scent is very faint and is basically a skin scent. The entire progression of this perfume lasts about 90 minutes, then fades away entirely.

The more I wear this the more I like it. I really really adore it. It's equal parts velvety pink rose petals and creamy vanilla on me. No one note stands out over the other. The vanilla brings the sweetness, of course, but not in a foody way. This is another one I think even vanilla haters might enjoy. I typically wear this to bed, but lately I've been using it during the day as I've been craving it. I suppose the weather here has made that happen. Longevity is 8+ hours on clothes, and projection is decent for the first hour or two. If you like roses and vanilla, this is for you. I think it would be hard not to like it. This is actually what I had wished Mancera Roses Vanille smelled like, and I find it amazing that I got this at less than a quarter of Mancera's price.

EDITED 2 September 2016: I've had this tucked away behind some other bottles for a while, thinking every now and then, 'I must get you out again soon'. Well, I finally did today and OMG - somehow I forgot how GOOD this is! Actually, not just good - but if I start throwing out superlatives I won't stop lol. I so, so love this perfume. *happy sigh* *** I get the merest hint of rose before it disappears under a stinky white flower - first try, I was about to wash my arm but waited a bit longer. Suddenly, I was hit by a smooth yet sharp vanilla that took me straight to how I think Hypnotic Poison smells on other people but not me! I am overjoyed by this little gem - even better, it was a $15AUD blind-buy.

oh my god this smells DIVINE!! Actually the most authentic rose fragrance I have ever smelled. It smells exactly like a bouquet of deep red roses. I am usually somehow disappointed in rose-perfumes because I never really smell the rose, but here it is present and leading the show! The dry-down is a deep, sensual dark vanilla and is amazing too. Rose and vanilla. what an amazing kombo. I don't think a teenage girl would like this because it's somewhat mature, but for me at 22 it's great. I get to feel like a grown up elegant lady without smelling like an old sofa. Only downside is that it does not last past 2-3 hours. More like a body spray than an edt. Rate this 8/10

This is a classic in my 100+ full bottle collection - the rose is delicate, and the vanilla gives it a beautiful warmth. I get good longevity out of this, too. Wearing it today and I am still getting whiffs after applying at 7am (6 hours so far), but it does not project very much. It is unfortunately discontinued but I have 3 or 4 backups from years ago when it initially discontinued. The only dupe I've ever been able to find is the "love" b&bw aromatherapy rose and vanilla scent which i think is also discontinued. I would never put this in the same range as a mancera perfume, which is so synthetic and overpowering. This is light and delicate and beautiful!

A pleasant fragrance but quite poor in duration, sillage and projection. It is only perceived at skin level from the start and for a short time, about two hours being very generous. The bottle lasted me a a very short time because in order to being able to smell something, you have to atomize a lot and even then no one near you would give you compliments since they have to hug you or kiss you (that level of closeness 😂) to perceive something. It is not expensive but taking into account the poor performance and the 30ml I would say that it is a waste of money.

I bought the body mist without testing and I am quite pleased. Embrace Rose buds and vanilla is very rosy and dewy - light, a bit sweet and fresh. I would not buy the edt, the body mist serves it's purpose well as my "wake up and smell the roses"-kinda scent. I wear this in the morning and during my morning walks. Very similar to Yardley's English Rose. The body mist is also nice for work days, it's so fresh and light it doesn't annoy anyone. Beautiful, uncomplicated almost soliflore rose scent.

I bought this blind, given a great price at Target, and finding Vera Wang to be well-constructed fragrances. Alas, I was hoping for more rose in this fragrance, but I mostly smell vanilla, from beginning to end. That said, it still is a nice fragrance, quite long-lasting, nothing bitter or offensive. Just not much rose to my nose. However, if you want a soft floral vanilla with staying power, you'll love it and the price. Prettier than Vanilla Fields. The bottle is pretty too.

What I have says EDT, seems they don't make an EDP of this. I sprayed it on a cold spring morning and the vanilla rose still felt almost too cloying, but because it's an EDT it doesn't get to the point of overwhelm and settles into a skin scent. Reminds me of dried rose petals next to a vanilla candle. Not too sweet. I smell it on my wrists through the day but I don't think anyone else can smell me. It's pretty but I wouldn't purchase. Maybe as an easy inoffensive gift.

I love the scent in this eau de toilette. It's simple but the right kind of simple. Absolutely beautiful green fresh roses with a touch of vanilla to make it just a little bit creamy and slightly sweet. The big... big problem with this fragrance is that it does not last at all. I can spray half of a bottle in me that the scent will be gone in one hour or less.

I cannot say much about the perfume, but I recently purchased the body spray. I do not like florals very much. However, I love the smells of roses. I really wanted to buy the Bath & Body Works Rose body spray until I found this. This one smells way better, and lasts a good 2.5 hours. For a body spray 2.5 hours is not bad. Very pretty scent, but spray lightly.

This smells exactly like rose flavoured turkish delight, in the box and covered under a layer of icing sugar! And it stays like that for a good while. Some time later it starts to settle and resemble something like Damask rose body cream or lotion ( i got some stuff from Bulgaria and this is very similar). So, if you want potent, sugary rose - here you go!

This one makes me smell like cookies, in a good way :) Both on my skin and fabric I don't pick up any rose at all, only a loud vanilla and a hint of jasmin. But I like it still. It's inoffensive and a safe choice for office. My ten year old loves to smell it on me and said, "You smell like my favourite cookies!". Loved it. I'll be wearing it often :)

This is really pretty. Light citrus, roses and vanilla. It's actually lighter than most body sprays though and I barely get 2 hours of scent from it. It's ideal for work, or other places where scents with sillage is an issue. It's also a good one to put on right before bed. I don't think I'll repurchase it because I want something a bit stronger.

I layered this with sexual sugar, expecting sugared roses. Instead, the fruits in each perfume really synergize when combined for some reason. Interesting. I'm getting a lot of blueberries and oranges, each perfume by itself does not smell fruity to me. I find the best ratio to be 1:2, using twice as much rosebuds as sexual sugar

I had this perfume and I liked it a lot. I couldn’t really smell any vanilla, the rose was the only note I could detect. There’s the smell of alcohol in the first spray which goes away pretty quickly. One thing about this fragrance though is that it is VERY fleeting. If you like rose I would say this is a safe blind buy!

Upon first spray, I didn't like this scent. It was too strong of a boozy rose. However, after it dried down, the scent became something intoxicatingly delicious! The rose and vanilla exist in harmonious perfection. Really a beautiful scent, and it lasts a long time.

I'm in love with the embrace collection, i was searching for a simple but clean scents last spring and vera wang provided that. Rosy, vanilla, musk in that order! At first it's a little overwhelming but the drydown is a rosy creamy vanilla scent...I LOVE IT!

A young rose, vanilla sweet. It's fairly straightforward, like a more linear and natural version of Lush Rose Jam. Definitely wedding vibes. Sillage is soft but longevity is good, I can still smell it on skin 6 hours later.

Bright sparkly citrus rose to start off with then dries down to a lovely soft vanilla rose. It’s really lovely and delicate but longevity is poor (1-2 hours) and only a skin scent on me.

Ty southern blond for the schooling on magnolia. Lol. I was wondering what the non citrich tartness was coming from. Now I understand. I don't get much vanilla from this though

I normally find rose way too overpowering but this is super delicate- it almost reminds me of rose bath pearls from the 90s. A really nice bedtime scent.

This is a total misnomer. I cant smell the vanilla in this at all. It's a nice rose scent, not a great one, a nice one; no more, no less.

This sort of does what's on the label, very sweet rose and vanilla. I don't get any citrus, maybe a little iris, bit of musk and powder. It's very pretty but comes in with a wallop of almost nauseating sweetness. Can see this being a headachey one if over-used. I feel like it would be really beautiful lightly misted over hair and clothing. Dry down is much more calm, less of a punch. I want to try this layered with some darker, spicier scents, something with bitter chocolate maybe. It's too... pretty and young and...bridal? for me (that's Vera Wang, I guess!) but I will try and wear it different ways to make it work as it is clean and pretty and uncomplicated. I like it (apart from gag-worthy opening).

It's a nice and light sweet rose scent. The performance and spillage is so poor though that it's kind of a scam that they call this a perfume. It's barely a body spray.

Used the body mist version. It's not awful when used lightly, but it can give hairspray if used too heavily. Also not detecting any vanilla.

Meh. Such a shame, as the bottle and the pink juice are so pretty and classic. This opened up harshly on my skin with a blast of vanilla. I never really got the roses, which was disappointing. The vanilla is too sweet for my taste. It has lasted almost 5 hours on me, long enough for the musk to come through, with a little sandalwood. Basically, to me this smells like vanilla and musk, which I like to remain in the background in my fragrances. I agree with others that it smells somewhat cheap. I have gotten much more enjoyment from a less expensive pink juice that also has rose, vanilla, musk and wood notes: Sirene, by Vicky Tiel.

True to its name, this fragrance is a very equal blend of rose and vanilla. The result, unfortunately, is sickeningly sweet. Think bathroom soap mixed with custard. Although its sillage may be light, the sweetness almost immediately triggers a headache. There is nothing particularly sophisticated about this fragrance and it disappears after an hour or two.

The beauty of Vera Wang's Embrace lies in its subtlety. At first sniff, I nearly dismissed it as too simplistic. But the drydown took my breath away. The rose vanilla tendrils are like a lover whispering the most intimate declarations in your ear: that you are beautiful, deeply loved, cherished. Just lovely.

I’ve had a bottle of this sitting around for a few years. I must have blind bought it. I don’t like it at all. I usually love rose fragrances but this smells like roses and herbs to my nose. I do not detect vanilla. I would not blind buy this unless herby smelling roses is your thing.

I had high hopes because from the bottle it reminded me of a long-lost rose-musk perfume I enjoyed. Alas, when I put it on, it reminded me of a room freshener. It's got marginally better over an hour, but perhaps that's because it's dissipated so quickly. I think I'll keep looking.

I did my research before buying this. I like floral scents and thought the rose and vanilla would be a nice blend. I was wrong. I don't detect any rose because the vanilla is so overpowering. It smells very alcoholic and lasts max an hour. Overall quite disappointed.

The entire Embrace collection smells cheap to me. Rose and Vanilla sounds like something right up my alley, but it reminds me of an alcoholic beverage. I've tested this one twice. I wanted to fall in love, but I didn't.

I spritzed this on my arm at the drugstore today. I get no roses, only vanilla and lots of powder. This is nice, but smells nothing like I hoped it would. This would probably layer well with smoky, boozy scents.

I smelled a tester and got confused and thought I loved it. I got it as a gift. Long story short, I do not love it. It's too sweet, too cloying and too on the nose.

I had high hopes for this, but it ended up smelling like plastic to me. Just plastic doll heads all the way thru. :(

I fell head over heels in love with this perfume to start with, it was alot more complex than I was expecting, one minute it smelt like stella McCartney's peony (newer version) and the next it smelt like a soft whimsical rose and vanilla I found it totally adorable, however after wearing it for a few months I started getting a little bored with it which I really didnt expect because I loved it that much initially, it was also around the time that boredom started taking over with it that my 13 year old son said to me "what's that horrible smell?", I started sniffing the air in the room wondering what he was talking about, I said what smell I cant smell it what does it smell like? And he said "I dont know really it just smells funky and nasty like somethings gone off in here", i said it's not my perfume is it? And got him to smell it (thinking theres no way that he could be talking about this perfume being that he had such a strong negative reaction towards whatever it was he was smelling, I thought theres no way that it smells horrible let alone disgusting and I only really asked because I had only just walked in the room when he said it) and straight away he said omg yes that's it!! Sorry mum!!, I said are you serious? I said how does it smell to you then?, he said I dont know really but it doesnt smell like perfume it just smells funky and gone off and not nice. I was in total shock because I've only ever smelt a few perfumes that I absolutely gagged at, even if I didnt love them they were still somewhat ok and likeable and since i liked this one so much I still couldnt and still cant fathom how his nose perceived it as revolting.... anyway, it gets worse, wait for it... - So, my boyfriend then comes round a few hours later and I mention it to him, i said smell this what do you make of it and explained that my son had no clue it was perfume and thought there was something funky and nasty smelling in the computer room and straight away he said "Vikki I don't need to smell it, I really didnt want to say anything the first time that you wore it and every time since because I knew you loved it but now that Brad has mentioned it first i have to be honest, I really really really dont like it, I know exactly what he means by funky smelling, it's not often I dont like a perfume that you wear but I really really dont like this one, I'm so sorry and I just glad that Bradley said something first",I was absolutely horrified 😭. I'm glad they were honest lol and it's a good job that I was getting a little bored of it by then but im still really shocked even now that they both felt the same way about it, I'm always asking them to give me their opinions of my perfumes and the only reactions I've ever got are "thats really really nice that one" or "yeah that's ok but not great", theyve never ever hated a perfume that ive worn but this one caused their noses to turn up, I still cant believe my son thought there was something that had gone off in the computer room 😂, I do NOT smell this myself, I really really loved it and when I say I loved it (before I got bored of it) I mean I honestly loved it, it was everything that I had been looking for, I have my evening perfumes but i wanted a soft rose scent for ages for the day and tried soooo many perfumes and this really hit the spot for me, I dont get it one little bit but I think its safe to say that men really do not like this, I cant speak for all men obviously but the fact that both of the boys/men in my life were in total agreeance that this smelt horrible is enough for me so I shall not be wearing it again, their reactions were so negative that its unfortunately put me off wearing this for life. I was getting bored of it but I probably would of fancied wearing it again in the future being that it's so cheap and that I could never hate it, but yes this is the only perfume that both of them have ever hated and I've tried ALOT, it was a very sad day infact I'm still sad about it now 😂😭 my cheap little fluffy rose Turkish delight fragrance gone forever it's very poo indeed X

Absolutely adorable scent 💓 I fell inlove with this on first sniff. Ive been looking for a perfume for ages that is pretty, dainty, feminine, a tad cute but not overly juvenile, and this is THE ONE,this is so whimsical and lovely, it's perfect! it also happened to be the very LAST sample I tried on my perfume journey to find said perfume because that's just my luck 🤦about 500 samples later and my perfect scent is the last that I try 🙄 This does smell exactly like soft rose Turkish delight with a small sprinkling of sugar and vanilla but it isn't a gourmand..to me anyway, this is blended to perfection with just the right amount of each note, it isn't sickly and its exactly what I wanted all the samples that I tried to smell like, I can't actually believe this is better than the expensive ones I've tried either, such a whimsical little scent and beautiful in its simplicity. I do wish the longevity and sillage were better it really isn't great but I've also had alot of compliments which is wierd so maybe it projects better than I think or I become anosmic after a while. The only other whimsical fragrance I have found is Valentino Donna which I'll keep for special occasions, it doesn't smell the same as this but it gives me the same kind of feeling, they are both soft and feminine so if you like Donna you will likely love this too. This is truly an absolute gem, I imagine this is what a fairy tale princess would smell like but it could be worn at any age, I absolutely adore it 💓💓💓💓 I cannot understand the negative reviews whatsoever, "soapy", "custard", "room spray", really?, I know everybody has different tastes but I view this perfume as universally likeable!, it smells nothing atall like any of those things it's bloomin gorgeous and addictive! So don't let the bad reviews put you off of trying this X
