Vera Wang for Men

What an unexpected pleasure of a scent! I'd read rumors of its discontinuation and saw a bottle for a bargain, and after reading some of the reviews here decided to take the plunge and WOW am I glad I did. Smellinggreat's review is spot on - it's fresh, insanely classy, and one of my new favorites going forward - as well as the assessment that it's not a projection monster. This one is mostly for you and those embracing you - but it does have some moderate staying power at that level (6-7 hours as a skin scent on my skin). And the bottle is very, very impressive in its elegant-yet-durable simplicity. I think "woody spicy" is a bit of a misnomer, as from opening notes to drydown the scent is utterly defined by the citrus freshness of the yuzu, accented initially with the spiciness which gives way to the tobacco and woody notes on the drydown. It is woody-spicy, but only as the sidekicks to that tasty citrus note. This is a delicate, hidden gem that creates accords that I haven't smelled in too many men's scents. It has the "tenderness" of a women's scent (something I'd expect nothing less of from the sole men's offering from Vera Wang), but enough of a leathery-woodsy base to keep this a solidly unisex-to-male offering that should have a lot of appeal to women who like to dabble in men's scents, and it's a great entry for women who would like to try a men's scent that might be more palatable to wear for the first time. If the discontinuation rumors are true I will have to buy a few more bottles, because this is great, great juice. I might just buy them anyway. UPDATE: I actually chose this to wear when I got married - great scent for the transitional seasons.

Mmmm. Oh yes honey this is quite the fragrance. It’s been formulated to smell like something that would be worn on your wedding day, Vera Wang and all of course it’s going to be like that. What’s interesting though is that it actually does smell like that, when I sprayed it the first thing I thought was man on his wedding day, maybe just my mind playing tricks, I don’t know, what I do know is that I like it. It smells very intelligent, maybe a little more for an older man but I’m also one that thinks that we shouldn’t put an age on fragrances, wear what you want to wear no matter what your age is. I get a subtle lemon smell at the top, and then later I feel it transforms into a woody/ orangey smell, and then even later a kind of oaky/ earthy, it seems to constantly change, which I like. The price is just as attractive as the bottle, for the price I think it’s good value as it smells like it would cost more and the strength and longevity is quite good, on me at least. Also, just a little tidbit: Tan France, that lovely cappuccino of a man from Queer Eye lists this as his signature fragrance, if you think of him then that’s the kind of man that I think this suits, refined, smart and handsome. 9 out of 10.

First of all, full marks for one of the most elegant bottles in men's fragrance. I absolutely love the presentation. This is such a far cry from the despicable looking presentation of Ted Lapidus or Perry Ellis, etc. fragrances. If Vera can do it with so much class, those guys should be able to put a bit more effort into treating their products with more respect. As for the fragrance itself, the prominent yuzu opening is a burst of freshness and very pleasing. Once the sharpness of the yuzu fades, it smells a little like scented eraser, mixed with an array of enticing spicy and green notes. There's a very delicious green note that surfaces from time to time that's sublime (I think it could be the mandarin leaf, I'm not sure). All in all, this is a very subtle and classy fragrance. It doesn't project well and lays close to the skin and that's the kind of fragrance that I like. I find it to be a sophisticated and mature (in a good way) scent that is quite alluring. I am certainly very pleased to have it in my collection. However, I would buy it just for the bottle. Unbeatable.

I read somewhere that this scent is supposed to be a wedding day scent. I would say mission accomplished!! This is a fave scent for me. I'm not quite sure how I bought it but it wasn't something I came across while someone else was wearing it. My bottle is way old but isn't affected in some ways my older bottles have been. Thankfully. My first impressions have never changed. Its delicate yet masculine. It has fresh mowed grass green notes and then there's a definite citrus note (yuzu mandarine leaf as noted i guess) the base notes are masculine leather tobacco sandalwood but never overly done. It stays fresh while being well rounded and somewhat warm and comforting. I recall thinking this one was a modern take for the times of what a man's scent should be. It's like they took a classic man's scent base notes and gave it refreshing green top note. I wear this one as a treat but will now be cycling through my fragrances. life's too short to keep frags just to have them. No more daily cuba gold to save the good ones...we're drilling to the bottom

Lots of strong woody citrus to open. Slightly bitter, green petitgrain, and yuzu... yes! I love yuzu (the only note that has a 'z' in it!) for its florally lemony presentation. Nutmeg then begins to surface, with it's smooth woody character, almost soapy. Then full-bodied warmth and natural sweetness from sandalwood and tobacco. Anise is barely discernible but offers some sweet, gentle fire in the background. Leather: barely a touch. If it's there, it's soft, supple, subtle. Vera Wang... why create another male scent? This is perfection and I can see why you want to quit with just this one for men as this is already top notch. A little Chanel-like dignity and class, with a very quiet, woody growl. Impeccably paired with your signature Black collection suit and some wedding bells, however versatile, yet distinctive enough for a signature every day scent. Gorgeous bottle too--love the wood cap. Utterly alluring and sensual. This one makes me purrrrr...

A refined fragrance which is captivating and sensual. It also manages to be refreshing despite its elements which border on warm. I bought this and wore it often in 2005, and when i ran out of it i did want to replenish it but somehow did not. Recently again i went out to grab a fragrance that is neither too warm nor too cool and saw this on the shelf. Bingo, the fragrance and i asked the salesman to spray some on my wrist. It was a reunion! this belongs to me and it sort of compliments who i am, so there were not second thoughts. i bought it right away. If you are looking for something medium-stated and just appropriately luxurious you cannot go wrong with this one. The plus point is that not every one is wearing it! so there will always be that uniqueness which we all love. I am quite surprised reading comments about how it does not last. On me it lasts for a good 8-10 hours. It gets subtle which is good because end of the day one wants to unwind!

I love this stuff. I almost made it my signature scent. To those saying not to buy it because of projection and longevity issues, don't listen to them. I will say that VWFM wears on the skin similarly to The One. They smell vaugely similar at first, but end up going different directions. However, If you're a fan of The One, and you're a gentleman, go for this! This stuff projects better and lasts longer than The One EDT or EDP. It comes off as fresher to me, probably due to the yuzu. You still get that semi-sweet woodiness and dry tobacco in the background, and let me tell you, it is delicious. It pairs perfect with the fresh top notes. This stuff is so elegant, and the wedding ad campaign for it's release couldn't have matched the character of this fragrance any better. All in all, this is a criminally underrated fragrance. It smells very high-quality. Also, the presentation is top-notch. Truly class in a bottle. 9/10.

Picked up a 3.4oz tester of this for a song on eBay. Glad I did as I hear it's discontinued. This is a wonderful everyday scent, very fresh, albeit somewhat light, but I don't find it "weak"; it's just a bit subtle after dry down, once the POW! yuzu citrus mellows out. Then maybe it's the mandarin leaf and sandalwood that are working magic for me. To me there's almost a Chanel Pour Homme lurking deep down in there, perhaps that's what others identify as Allure. It's subtle, but a wonderful, mellow subtle; one that is intoxicating, leaving you wanting more, inhaling deeply to capture the balanced and subtly nuanced nose. I would say this works as a unisex scent. But it's definitely masculine enough, and subtle enough, for men in my estimation. Simple, understated and refined. Love it. (Wondering if I need to stockpile! WIsh I had the cap...)

Wore it way back when . I remember liking it then. The "This perfume reminds me of " section here on Fragrantica listed D&G The One and Tom Ford for Men, which further peaked my interest. I have a sample of the TF (wow !) and want to get my nose on the D&G (recently purchased the EDT) . Still not sure of the comparisons, but this frag definitely stands on its own. I got a 50ml bottle off ebay for $27.95. Glad I did - liked it then , still like it today ! This one punches above its weight class. Not a wimpy scent - spicy and masculine. May not be a suitable choice for younger guys. I'm 65, so it's very age appropriate for me. Great for fall and winter, day or night, and evenings in the spring. Great selection to round out your collection, at the very least ! Thumbs up. 8.5/10

Vera Wang for Men smells fantastic but the projection and longevity is below average which is the only downside. I would actually prefer to have the EDT in a splash version as you can spray a lot with this and it still stays light. The Yuzu and Tobacco notes are pleasant(IMHO) and there is a certain classiness to this. It's airy but present, I believe it would shine in romantic settings or curled up on the sofa with your significant other. Without the risk of sounding sexist, I believe this is a feminine interpretation of what a modern male cologne could be. In that regard I think it is quite interesting as there are predominately masculine notes in its composition but it still strikes the balance between masculine and feminine. Very Nice Indeed :)

A soft, fresh, spicy scent with a dash of citrus. The citrus hint in it comes from mandarin leaves so it's not as citrusy as say 212 for Men. The opening is one of my favorite openings of all fragrances! The dry down is nice & warm. The longevity is rather short & the smell stays close to the skin. This is a smell for nice guys who don't like to attract unnecessary attention. Cozy & lovely. The wedding ad captures its spirit perfectly! 15th July 2017 update: it's such a terrible shame that such a lovely smell is plagued by such weak performance! A bottle of Vera Wang costs about the price of 3 Adidas bottles but the cheap, although nice, Adidas bottles will last & project 3 times more!

This fragrance is the progenitor of every popular warm citrus release in the mid to late 2000's. Its blueprint is quite impressive to even be so influential. On those merits, I give it the respect deserved. You do not compare it to them, you compare them to it. With that said, Vera Wang for Men walked so D&G The One could run and The One EDP could fly. They do everything this does and more...but better, as is expected of the successive generation. If you enjoy driving a classic vehicle despite it not having the modern touches to make it more comfortable, safe and reliable you will understand the appeal of this fragrance over its counterparts. This is a weekend driver for me.

This is one fragrance I don't want to be without. A very CLASSY fragrance. I can't imagine taking the listed ingredients and blending them any better than they are. This is not a projection beast, but it is acceptably noticeable in a crowd and does have good longevity compared to many of today's watered down offerings. This perfume to me does not smell synthetic in the least, and that is an amazing feat at the price point. It really is a gem. I would say it is the kind of fragrance that can be easy going and casual, but you would also make a great impression to wear it to a formal gathering in suit and tie... or going to a very important job interview.

On a 0 to 10 scale this fragrance deserves a 9 for the scent (a thinner THE ONE or a brighter Tom Ford) and a 2 for the performance (4 hours longevity and 2 feet sillage and faint projection). You have to spray on clothes for average longevity. I don't detect any sweet vibe. If you want a touch of sweetness, layer it with a previous spray of Demeter Vanille or Body Shop Vanille. You end up with a sweeter "The One" and you increase the performance of Vera Wang for Men by 50%. With a decent performance(example: 8 hours+ longevity and 6 feet sillage) this fragrance would deserve a 8.50/10.00. With current performance I rate it 7.50/10.00.

I love this fragrence. It's just like the one IMO but has a light tobacco smell that gives it a more formal smell. It lasts very short. Under 4 hours and silage is average. I truly cannot get enough of this smell. It's under rated in many levels. Wish it lasted longer but overall a perfect ten in the actual smell. Must try. I will for sure use in my late nights with my sexy girl. I recommend the same for you other guys. Masterpiece for the night out before the sheets. Thank me later :)

This is the first cologne I ever bought back in 2004. I loved it, but because of life I eventually stopped wearing cologne all together, that is until I started dating my current girlfriend who is a fragrantica-phile. I decided to bring out the ol’ Vera Wang for our first New Years eve date and she LOVED IT. Now I wear it quite often. I love this scent. I’m pretty much a newbie in terms of picking out notes and such with colognes and purfumes, but I know that I like this one.

This is the perfect fragrance to wear when you meet your girlfriend's parents for the first time. It says that you are a gentleman with class and style and taste. Yes, it is similar to D&G The One, but this fragrance is fresher with citrus notes. The citrus notes give it balance, contrast and versatility. It's not just a date fragrance like D&G The One. You should have bought it several years ago when it was dirt cheap.

Warm, soapy and a tad bit spicy, like a cross between the One & Pour Homme; both being Dolce & Gabbana scents. I prefer this over the One since the One has terrible longevity and despite smelling phenomenal, is not worth the asking price. I first got a bottle of VW when it came out in 2004 and current bottles smell and perform exactly as I remember so I would be surprised to learn that this was reformulated at all.

I love this juice. On me it lasts for several hours and the projection is good. Not overbearing. I like having this in the rotation right now. I'd recommend giving it a try. It won't be an expensive mistake. I paid $17 total shipped to my door. And note: many, many people say that Vera Wang for Men smells just like Tom Ford for men. So if you like that try this and save yourself the $100 and buy more fragrances!

Where I live the fall has arrived and the days of summerfrags are over. I took this out for a spin and my what a wonderful scent this is!! Cosy, fresh and professional, all in one bottle. This could easily be a unisex scent, but maybe more on the manly side. Decent longevity and sillage. For the price this is a winner.

I do like this fragrance!!! Now for all the other lovers of Vera Wang for Men I do suggest you to layer it with Alyssa Ashley Vanilla. FIRST: 1 Sprays of A.A.Vanilla SECOND: 2 Sprays of VW for Men Do apply above the ears and on the shirt... It lasts all day long, and women love it a bit sweeter with the added vanilla

I find this very alluring. A man's scent, but it has a soft/tender side. It's so appealing to smell this on someone. The most negative thing I can speak of is....The bottle isn't so much! I myself, think this is a must have. Most certainly worth a blind buy AND....a wonderful gift if you decide it's not for you.

On my skin this stuff lasts forever. Sprayed around 9am and it's almost 5pm and can still smell it. One of the best bangs for your buck. Classy and soft is how I would describe it. This is not to get noticed but expecting someone to be near you. Instant fan. Somewhere between ysl l'homme and D@Gb.

That's how a gentleman should smell like. A fresh clean smell but not in that blue fragrances zone. Very masculine and classy. I heard this expression so I will use it: this perfume separates men from boys 100%.It has good performances for those who do not want to be noticed from 2 streets away.

At $13 this one was on the money. The opening is beautiful and seductive but the dry down is weak. 2 to 3 hours and it's gone, re-apply. Nothing amazing stands out about this fragrance but the name Vera Wang. Smell: 6/10 Longevity: 3/10 Silliage: 5/10 Age: 20+

My husband just tried the tester vial of this.Its nice on him. It smells to me more easier on the nose than the D and G original he's worn in the past. Someone (another man) walking by after he had it on for 30 minutes gave the scent a compliment.

Amazing...better than any other citrus scent, and different too. The tobacco and the woods really keep it from being your typical acqua di gioneric. Perfect for all occasions, this one reminds me of Boss Bottled (not the smell, the versatility)

Wow so these bottles are going for over $80 now? I got mine for $14 from a fragrance discounter on eBay 2019. Anyways it's very good, classy, warm, fresh and not like everything else. On my skin it lasts forever. Much longer than D&G the one.

This is so much better than the one and lasts a bit longer too. This is seductive and smooth. Definitely one for a special date, it's too good to be worn casually. I'm surprised Amber isn't listed in the notes? A keeper 9/10

a summer /day version of D&G the one intense. this is good. you could wear this during the day and the D&G the one intense at night. this can easily be your signature scent. only advise is to avoid during a holiday!

Such a great buy, Picked it up at a discounter and was immediately surprised. For the price, notes and performance I would say it holds up 100% not perfect by any means but the majority would enjoy this fragrance

A lovely smooth warm fragrance. Seems beautifully blended. Starts a little fruity then the sandalwood and tobacco come through. Longevity and silage are both good on me. A really lovely and classy scent!

I purchased this for my brothers wedding, and im very pleased with it. It's a very Warm, Sexy, seductive scent. Everyone alway compliments me on this one.

Top quality spice..Beautiful earthy, fresh scent..I think it should be a unisex..I surely will steal it from my husband's collection.

After reading reviews for this scent, I had mixed feelings about what to expect from it. Today I finally tried it for the first time. I half expected it to smell generic and boring and that I would be disappointed. I can now report that it's better than that. I had an appointment this afternoon with my massage therapist and as he was working on me I kept catching whiffs of something in the air that smelled nice and I wondered if it was the fragrance I was wearing. Turns out, it was. When I first sprayed this scent on, I thought - hmmm....it reminds me of something I've smelled before, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Truth be told, I wasn't too impressed. However, once the fragrance settles into itself and the heart notes come out, it gets more unique and pleasant. The one thing that made me nervous was the tobacco note in the base. Generally, I am not a fan of tobacco in fragrances. Something about the note reminds me of cigarettes, which I despise. The smell literally makes me nauseated. A perfect example would be Versace's The Dreamer. I don't like it or anything else that smells remotely close to it. Dirty ashtrays come to mind. I cannot detect the tobacco note in Vera Wang for Men and I'm happy about that. To me, this fragrance is warm, making it perfect for Fall and Winter. It's a little strong when it first goes on but becomes smoother after about a half hour or so. It's soft spices pair nicely with the acidity of the yuzu. I am glad the yuzu is in there, it adds a dimension of freshness that is needed. I believe Vera Wang was successful in how she marketed this scent. It is, in a word, "classy." Perfect for a man on his wedding day. I don't love it but I do really like it. The sillage is good but the longevity could be better. Still, it has its place in my collection and serves its purpose well.

I'll boil this down real simple for you guys. Presentation - Very Impressive. Extremely classy, but masculine bottle that no man would be ashamed to display. Also represents the scent itself quite nicely. Scent Itself - As others have mentioned...if you like Dolce & Gabbana The One For Men...then you are 99.9% likely to like this one. They are EXTEMELY similar. Not a 100% dupe, but as I said, extremely similar. It's got a very smooth and warm feel to it. It's a couple of things...it's spicy, warm, tobacco, and woodsy. But unlike a lot of spicy or warmth infused fragrances...this one is not overbearing. It's quite the perfect balance to be noticeable and not weak or pathetic in terms of performance...but also not even CLOSE to being overbearing. It's light, but very present and for that, I respect it. It's a decent fragrance in every way. Performance - About 5-7 hours depending on how heavy handed you are with it. And the projection is moderate but perfectly so. It's a great scent for a date or even for the office as it smells great, like a masculine hug and will not offend anyone. Scent Itself - 8.5/10 Performance - 8.5/10 Quality For Price - 9/10 Presentation - 10/10 *Overall Score - 8.5/10*

I didn't know what to expect from this frag. I found a 100ml bottle for less than 20usd...you couldn't go wrong. I decided to make a blind purchase and I wasn't disappointed after spraying it on my skin. After looking up all the notes Yuzu (grapefruit) is the only one I'm not able to detect. Yuzu tends to be a strong bitter citrus aroma, instead I pick up nutmeg, Sandalwood and hint of leather which makes for a really nice masculine aroma but not heavy and it's perfect during the fall/winter months. As a side note I don't find this frag generic at all. Longevity and Silage are both very good on my skin..last's at least 6hrs..you can smell at least 2ft when it's been sprayed. Overall opinion, this fragrance is very good during the fall and winter days. Finally, I don't know if I would buy this bottle at full price nor would I go out of my way that I had to wear it on my wedding day. It's a really nice frag...it deserves at least.... 8.5/10. One last note about this juice...if you kinda like DG's The One but one want something with a bit more body as well a woodsy/warm vib go for this frag and you want regret it !!!! Two thumbs up...

Simple, subtle, elegant, masculine. It has by a mile the best yuzu opening I know. The yuzu lasts a long time and is definitely detectable 2 hours on. It evolves to reveal nutmeg, mossy woods and leather. The anise is beautifully subtle so that you don't feel you are wearing a spicy scent. The sandalwood is very light, as is the tobacco that barely registers for me. The whole thing just hangs together so beautifully. It reminds me of the different aromas experienced walking around Vienna's Naschmarket or Stuttgart's superb indoor market. Projection is modest - which is my preference. No longevity issue on me (having wondered around Grand Bizarre, Istanbul in May when it lasted comfortably four hours in almost 40oC). This is one of very few sweeter woody scents (along with Lancôme Hypnôse Homme) that has the potential to establish itself amongst my permanent rotation. I have worn this for 3 years without a hint of "scent fatigue". Some scents have their day in the sun, then disappear. I cant see this happening to Vera Wang. This has a timelessness about it.

Man I'm a little let down.. I remember I sprayed this on a strip a a mall kiosk and I said wow this is actually nice, I though I found a little gem, I didn't buy it then bc of the ridiculous mark up so I put it on my list. Remember two things when purchasing this, it's the only fragrance for men by Vera wang, she doesn't even make uni sex fragrance, or at least market them and two, you get what you pay for. I ordered this from what I remembered and for $20 shipped on the grey market. I sprayed it on my skin and it's nothing what I remembered. It's a very very synthetic mess of citrus. I don't know if this is because a majority of my collection now is niche and of high quality ingredients or what but this just doesn't smell that good. It does project very well and seems to be lasting for a really long time which is good.. At least the bottle looks good so I'll put it in my collection, but I'm not a fan unfortunately.. This is a definite try before you buy on your skin at that, you'll thank me...

SANDYDE, I agree with you, Luca Turin's review was WAY off the mark and entirely unfair with his review of Vera Wang for Men. Vera Wang for Men is high quality. The wood and leather notes smell great. It is similar to Tom Ford for Men. I enjoy it and would wear it with jeans and a t-shirt or a tuxedo. It has a classic masculine structure composed very well and is just good in almost any situation or setting. It is too heavy for summer, but light enough for spring. It does smell a bit "perfume-y", but still very good. The cheap bottles available online should be added to anyone's collection. I always recommend this in forum threads for members asking for high quality low cost scents to build a collection. Vera Wang is perfect for that, and you will still wear it when you have better, more expensive scents to choose. It will hang with any of them. I still wear it in cooler weather and it smells as good as many bottles costing 4-5x as much.

This was my signature scent for like a decade back in the 2000’s, back when the cap was made of wood and not plastic. When it was discontinued, I would pick it up in bulk from discounters because I was scared it would be gone forever. I still have a bunch of bottles in storage, but I’ve all but outgrown this scent, to the disappointment of all my friends and family who associate this scent with me. I pulled it out recently to give it a go, and was pleased to see that I still enjoyed it immensely. Maybe it was a bit of nostalgia on my part, but I think this is a really great fragrance. By designer standards, it’s an A+, even tho Luca Turin gave this 1 star, named it one of the worst perfumes and said it was a “soapy mess”. Highly recommend for someone on a budget, just looking for an everyday, all season, work friendly, non offensive pleasant scent.

Opening and sour / citric yuzu lasts a few minutes, then the note appears synthetic tobacco which is easier to please note than the natural tobacco. The leather note identifying still do not know, but if the smell of leather jacket, so I did not feel this perfume. Already 30 minutes after application I felt something a little sweet, like a musk, very lightly, but this note is not described in the perfume. In the drydown there is a very smooth sandalwood. It is a very pleasant fragrance and can be used both day and night. Beautiful Bottle, cover wood without varnish (just a sealer). I think it's worth if you buy at a good price. scent: 7.5 / 10 Projection: 5/10 (mild, very close to the skin) Longevity: 5/10 (about 6 hours) Age to use it: +25 years Versatility: 8/10 (Good for everyday use, except for very hot days)

The Yuzu reminds me strongly of Issey Miyake, who seems to have pioneered the use of this fruit. But what sets it apart from L’eau D’Issey is the spicy background. This makes Vera Wang’s Pour Homme a few touches more masculine. The Yuzu hits you on the first spray, then the dry down makes the yuzu sweeter and it mingles with the mandarin leaf, tobacco and leather – this softens the citrus making it more appropriate for autumn or night-time wear. It certainly is a soft fragrance that could be worn by men or women. I don’t find it very complex – nor do I find it very original. But I don’t think this matters one bit. It is a wonderful smell that hints at subtle class, pushing one obvious note, but as you get closer signifies a stronger background. I find Eternity does this also, and both do it extremely well.

What a great hidden gem!! It's a cheapie too! It is a warm, masculine, spicy cologne with fresh citrus up top, spice in the middle, and smooth warmth at the bottom. The yuzu, mandarin, tobacco, and nutmeg blend beautifully together. It is a perfect all year round cologne but it shines in fall. This can be worn casually as well as for a night out/date, and formally. Even can be worn to work. It is an inoffensive masculine scent that gets attention and compliments. It lasts about 6+ hours on me but with soft projection. The scent is unique but nothing earth shattering. However, it is definitely not boring like many have written it off to be. The drydown is amazing!! Overall i'm so glad I picked this up for $15 you can't beat this! Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 6/10 Projection: 5/10 Versatility: 10/10 Overall: 7.5
