Eau d'Azur

I used to work for a fragrance company years ago.. this is well blended quality source oils that send you on an expensive coastal vacation. Growing up on the Southern Californian coast I can tell you this fragrance embodies a coastal vibe. Some of the other reviews smelling pledge??? Ridiculous. I feel like many people smell any citrus and neroli fragrance and their limited experience goes straight to that lemon oil pledge as a olifactory child memory. Says more about the reviewer than fragrance

I really like this and from the notes I can see why. Neroli, Vetiver (hay leaning), lavender, and citrus all together smell like a beautiful holiday on the Mediterranean. This is feminine leaning but I think a man could pull this off. Think upscale Spa at an all inclusive minus the cucumber note. My only complaint is that it turns soft and skin scent within an hour of hitting my wrists. It is quite lovely though and I'm debating on a full bottle which is currently $290 USD.

I have a few bottles from this house and I'm delighted. But this one is nothing special, with weak parameters. Nothing new. I will wait and give one more go.

I'm so very disappointed with this new release from Veronique. I own and love several perfumes from this house, and admire Veronique's ability to set consistent themes and standards for her fragrances. Most of them do a very nice job of embodying a Mediterranean feel and wear very nicely in warm weather. They could be criticized for being just a bit safe and mainstream, but they are well-crafted and should appeal to niche heads and novices alike. When the description and notes for Eau d'Azur were released this Spring - I was admittedly very excited. Lavender, citrus, oud, and musk presented in Veronique's style sounded ideal to me. But I perceive this perfume as an aromachemical mess, sadly. I apologize for being blunt, but it truly reminds me of an industrial strength detergent or bathroom cleaner. Which is not entirely unpleasant - it conjures the smell of a sparkling foyer in a resort spa. The whiff of chlorine, citrus surfactants, and lavender-eucalyptus shower spray. But it really does smell very artificial - like Comme Des Garcons' Marseille on steroids. CdG has a knack for taking industrial scents and making them into compelling personal fragrances. But that's not Veronique's style and it just doesn't work here. What could have been a bracing and herbal experience feels as if it has been reduced to its lowest common denominators. While I feel the spa reference is appropriate, you could also approximate this scent by mixing lemon Pledge with with lavender-scented laundry detergent. The top notes are incredibly harsh and the perfume ultimately dries down to resemble a simple cologne-style splash. Given that this is actually priced higher than the rest of the Gabai line ($290 for 85ml), the end result is all the more disappointing. I wear both Noire de Mai and Sexy Garrigue regularly, while also enjoying Vert Desir as a cooling tonic. But Eau d'Azur feels shockingly mediocre for such an expensive perfume. Folks seeking something in this vein would be much better served with an Acqua di Parma-type fragrance or even an inexpensive, traditional cologne.
