Sur La Plage

I'll start by saying that this beauty has just been bumped up to my Favorites Shelf here on Fragantica and in real life! It is my summer 2022 signature scent ♡ I am one who's blessed that my body chemistry blends beautifully well with Glossier You (GY) perfume. ... On that note, this one has a GY vibe mixed with Tom Ford's Soleil Blanc. Upon initial spray, my husband said it smelled like eraser. Eraser?! I asked as I smelled my wrist. I've only heard that comment from Glossier You. Ahhh, yes, I see it now. Then one of my kids said it smelled like some sort of wood, whilst another one asked if I was sunbathing by the pool. I inhaled and took in the scent again. "Ahhh, Soleil Blanc". Inhaled once more, "Ahhh, Glossier you"! I thought to myself. It has that skin scent of GY and the beachy, sunny , coconuty sunblock lotion from TF's SB but the GY lightens up SB's intensity. Its not fruity. Its GY perfume and SB mixed perfectly. Not one note overpowers another. ☆This is my new summer crush. However, as I enjoyed my new found crush through the day, feeling as if I were on vacation at the Seabird Resort in Oceanside, CA (plz do check out that resort, highly recommended [in particular room # ... nvm that's my room, but it has a gorgeous private balcony]) I felt as if I was cheating on my main squeeze, Dior's Eden-Roc (ED). I've always felt ED was a tad on the masculine side for me. A gorgeous soft masculine, but masculine nonetheless, so I had a bright idea as I drank my imaginary Margarita on the Rocs (<-see what I did there, lol), I thought to myself: "what if I combine this Veronique Gabai Sur La Plage with ED"?! Its just my perfect refreshing cocktail for Spring/Summer of 2022. Please note, that obviously on its own is delicious. It doesn't last as long as SB, I get maybe a 4-6 hour performance on its own. Then SB is more oily, hence, lasts longer. This doesn't have that "oily" note. Its more perfume (GY) so I'm thinking that's why it doesn't last as long. Projection, I'm in a cloud all day. ♡ If you have SB idk that its worth purchasing this one too, as they are pretty similar with slight and subtle differences. Maybe a better purchase would be SB as it lasts longer? Up to you ^__^ Hope this helps ツ

Smells like a Southern California evening in early summer when the air is warm and the orange trees are flowering. Also blooming and scenting the air is jasmine carried on a gentle breeze. You’re a few miles from the sea so you occasionally get a whiff of some salty sea air, but mostly the delicate, yet heady florals dominate. I get about 5 hours weartime. Edited to add: upon first wear, I felt like the pretty white florals overwhelmed all else. But perhaps I oversprayed? I’ve found more nuance on subsequent wearing. During dry down, my brain insists my nose is detecting faint anise notes (which I love.) I checked the Veronique Gabai website and, while there’s no anise, they list pink pepper and cedarwood in addition to the notes listed here. I think the combination of pink pepper and orange blossoms is translating to anise for me. But overall, it remains a very floral, very feminine scent.

I wish I could find my decant of Tom Ford Soleil Blanc to compare these side by side because this is so similar. I like Sur La Plage more and can't place why. Beachy, fruity, unisex. Smells like being away on vacation so I'm wearing it today longing for warm days ahead. Veronique Gabai scents are pleasant but I find them so fleeting that they're not quite worth it. UPDATE: I now have a travel size of both this and Soleil Blanc. Soliel Blanc is much warmer, sweeter, milkier/creamier, lots of cardomom at the start, and has coconut notes which Sur la Plage lacks. Sur La Plage is lighter and more transparent, aquatic, greener or more plant/floral present, fresher. They both have poor longevity but are pretty beach fragrances - one being warm and the other being fresh. I am preferring the slightly milky sweet gourmand-ness of Soleil Blanc more now that I have them both.

This is the perfect summer vacation scent. I think that TF Soleil Blanc is too commercial sunscreen-smelling, but this scent is a perfect complement to an afternoon lounging at the beach. I bought a travel decant to use on my trip to Mexico and it made me happy every day- I couldn't tell where the orange blossom, salt air, and skin scent notes ended and my own began... I mean, in reality I probably would've smelled like a paloma-soaked, sun-bathing hot mess on my own, but this fragrance made the experience dreamy. I live in the mountains and I tried wearing this when I got home and it just wasn't the same. The memories it brought back were good, but I'm going to have to wait for a really hot day at the lake before I try it again. Or I'll just save it for my next beach vacation.

I have 10 (give or take, depending on what you count) samples/decants/minis of beach scents. This one is my favorite. It's got that indolic white flower, balanced out by freshness from the orange blossom and marine notes. It's not too creamy or powdery, just enough. I just love this scent. I only use my "love" ranking when I wouldn't change a single thing, and here it applies. It's so beachy while being well-rounded and not veering off too far into any one territory, yet it has personality—to me the personality is relaxing and optimistic, like all those thoughts you have on vacation about how you're going to change things around when you get back home. Hit me up if you've got a partial you don't want and can ship to California.

If you had one beach scent that incorporated everything to love about aquatic or skin scents like coconut, musk, salt notes, etc., this could be it. It’s so gorgeous and beautiful. It'd be expensive and maybe not worth it because the silage and longevity is poor. I love so much from this house and it's hard for me to choose as my budget can only incorporate one bottle at this point and this smells like several other scents I already own. Hard to justify the fb but would highly recommend if need this genre in your collection.

I just got a sample, and I love it. I was searching for a long time for a marine scent that is distinctive. It is somewhat similar to Nuda Veritas, but more creamy and beachy. On my skin this Gabai scent starts as a slightly sweet and creamy marine scent with light orange blossom and in the dry down the sweetness slowly dissipates and becomes a truly amazing fresh marine scent. On my skin it lasted about 6 hours starting moderately and later with intimate sillage.

Sur la Plage is very sensual and feminine. It's front loaded with white florals, but the warm beachy marine notes add an intimate twist; almost like bare skin drying off in the sun after a dip in the sea. 10/10. Though the sillage is very "french" (it will feel like it whispers throughout the day) this literally leaves a glowing sunny scent trail everywhere you go.

Beautiful white flowers, balanced by the sea freshness. It is not too creamy or powdery, just delicate and soft enough. It is one of my favourite "beach" scents.

I am in absolute shock!!! please go try Jasmin Immortal Neroli by L'occitane. I am glad I have just found the longer lasting version of it. soooo good ahhh...

Love the scent but very poor longevity

This is so nice. Sur la Plage definitely has a salty vibe but it doesn’t smell at all like algae or seaweed (thank goodness!!) It is perfect for Summer, or the warm months of the year. It has that Mediterranean smell of Orange Blossoms that I love so much. Sur la Plage is a shy-ish and subdued fragrance. It is summery, sexy and an airy scent that really reminds you of the beach without that ubiquitous sunscreen smell found in other fragrances. This is classy and refined. Souvenirs de Tunisie (by Véronique Gabai) is still my absolute favorite from the brand because it completely embodies the Mediterranean as it smells very floral. It is like the louder, older sister to Sur La Plage in a way. Definitely sample both, they are worth a try!!

I used to own Sur La Plage back in 2021, I think... It’s a beautiful fragrance but I much prefer Eden-Roc by Dior which has better longevity and smells better overall. This type of fragrance is quite common thanks to the popularity of Beach Walk by Maison Margiela and I find it was copied and over copied... Personally, Sur La Plage is a little too oceanic on my skin because that salty sea note is way too prominent on me. It’s definitely one I’d sample on the skin first...

It does exactly what the name implies. I see myself wearing this under the sun but, because it is freezing in October, I'll have to keep this sample close until June! It has something that reminds me of Light Blue by D&G and of Issey Miyake, a lovely airiness, but not because of any citrus. It's blue from afar, but much more intimate when you get close. There is also a soft sweetness and a tinge of soapiness that makes it unique. Very wearable and put together!

The opening was pretty much pepper and soap.. With the drydown came the beautiful salty florals. It reminded me of being on a beach near a garden on a hot day. Unfortunately, within an hour , it became a skin scent and I had to put my nose right into my wrist to smell. This is a pretty, feminine non offensive fragrance , but because of the longevity , nothing memorable . I will use up my sample, but not sure it is worth investing in a full bottle.

Nice perfume, with acquatic notes and perfect to wear on sunny days. Unfortunately it dissapeared from my wrist withing one hour and I could not even smell a single note anymore. Thankfully I purchased a very small bottle but I ended up giving it away to a friend since I cannot walk around topping it up all the time. I find the perfumes of this brand have a problem with longevity and sillage, specially for the price....

A small garden of orange blossoms and jasmine growing by the sea. Its breezy and the scent wafts over to you as you enjoy the sound of the ocean waves. Very fresh and soothing, sticks very close to the skin, doesn't project at all. I think it's worth sampling if the notes sound appealing, but I wouldn't purchase given the longetivity and projection issues. Best in spring/summer.

Simple, yet effective. This is such a fantastic beachy scent for Summer. It has the citrus, florals, and slight mineral effect without being overly ozonic or aquatic. Pleasantly surprised by how much I love this; it's gone on my "wishlist".

Pretty scent! The dry-down is exactly like Aerin's Mediterranean Honeysuckle in Bloom (which the base notes has Elie Saab edt in it) For those who want the extra wear on skin, try Mediterranean Honeysuckle in Bloom.

This somehow smells JUST like skin warmed by the sun and sea - it’s lightly floral, warm, marine, and soft. No coconut, nothing tropical citrus, but smells like the beach.
