Versace Man Eau Fraiche

I have a story about this fragrance that really transformed my fragrance philosophy and hopefully offers a new, worthwhile perspective to others. This is my first cologne and I bought it this spring before I knew anything about sillage, longevity, or any smart fragrance terminology. I even overpaid $95 at Macy's without knowing better (at least I got shower gel and a cool Verace travel bag). I wore it every day with confidence. I got compliments on it. I even wore it over a gifted bottle of YSL Y EDP I got the previous Christmas. When I eventually realized it didn't last that long, I naturally began over-spraying. Throughout that spring and subsequent summer, without realizing it, I was wearing this fragrance during a joyous and monumental time in my life. I graduated college, spent my entire summer across Europe with my family and friends, and made memories that will forever define who I am. Always alongside me: Versace Man Eau Fraiche. Eventually, I visited a friend who had family and a place in Dubrovnik. That city truly embodies this fragrance's smell: sun-glazed crystal water, fresh, beautiful, relaxed -- but that's beside the point. I realized my flight back to Belgrade did not include a checked bag, meaning it wouldn't make it through airport security. So I gave her the remaining 40-ish percent of my bottle and asked if she could take it back to the States with her and I'll pick it up from there. I spent the next month and a half without this fragrance, discovering new ones, and getting involved in this niche, fun, and sometimes hilariously pretentious community. Always excited to internally debate about what my next fragrance was going to be. Then, finally, back in LA, at my birthday party, my friend brought me this fragrance back. I naturally gave it a whiff, and everything came rushing back: My graduation, the seaside Dubrovnik villa, Sarajevo's surrounding hills, my family's commie block in Belgrade, that one time I got food poisoning from this weird Croatian hot dog. It was a brief, unexpected tsunami of memories and emotions. That is what makes this my best fragrance of all time. It was my first and will always be. Our sense of smell has been proven to be closely linked to our emotions. It's why regular smells such as gasoline or Irish Spring soap weirdly hold such nostalgic value to me. It's why we always distinctly remember how our loved ones or ex(s) smelled. It is this uniquely powerful correlation between scent and emotion that I believe the world of fragrance holds the most potential. Find a scent that really activates something within you. Or, in my case, you don't even have to do that. Just find a pleasant scent. Live in it. Grow with it. And when the day comes you grow a little tired with it, you will forever have a wonderful, irreplicable vessel back to that time in your life.

For full disclosure; this is a fragrance that holds a special place in my collection and I have a lot of experience with it. This was actually my first fragrance I ever bought back in 2016 & for years after that Man Eau Fraîche was my fragrance for everything. I currently have two bottles of it, a 200ml that is over half empty and a 30ml travel size that I used for the photo simply because it photographed better. Interestingly the opening and dry down for this fragrance smell almost the same to me. The opening has a citrus note that fades slightly as it dries down. The pleasant notes of musk and woodiness start to blend very nicely with the citrus. There are some other notes that appear as well that I can’t recognize but I believe they are star fruit based on the notes listed on Fragrantica. This is a very basic fragrance but in a nice way, for me this is an easy no thoughts need fragrance for any occasion. The notes are suited more for warmer weather but after wearing on this fragrance for a couple years I can say it can work any time of year. In terms of projection and longevity it’s unfortunately a little bit hard for me to say; I’m fairly certain that after how long and often I’ve worn this fragrance, even though I don’t wear it as often as I used to, that I am slightly nose blind to it. For today I could smell it for around 7 hours in total, with 6 hours of strong wear before it faded out entirely by the end of hour 7. For longevity I would give it a 7/10, I feel that for a fragrance as light as Man Eau Fraîche that this is good longevity. My thoughts on projection for this fragrance both based on today and passed wear. I find projection to be quite good as well, slightly outside of arms length. I also will note that I have worn this one enough to revive a fair number of compliments on it over the years. I would give it a 7/10 for projection as well. Overall I think this is an amazing fragrance, especially for the low price point and it’s easy wearing nature. I would give this a 9/10 but I think a 7 or 8 out of 10 would be more realistic.

Versace Man Eau Fraiche is truly legendary, nearing 20 years old. . . It stands out in the now oversaturated blue fragrance market. It has the DNA of any other blue freshie, but very crisp, airy but also has that citrus bite. However, the most important part of Eau Fraiche is the starfruit; it's what makes this fragrance unique because on top of a now generic blue fragrance sits the starfruit which if youve never eaten has a pineapple/lemon hybrid allure, depending on ripeness it can even taste pear or mango like. It's a very unique fruit and perfumer Cresp made it stand out so perfectly! Sadly I've only seen starfruit in fragrances marketed towards women, but it's still underused in fragrances two decades later. If you like Versace Pour Homme you'll love this, & vice-versa, in Pour Homme you trade the floral rose for starfruit! Both are elite & are timeless. It's a great gym sent, primarily suited for warmer weather but decent for all year, while it's not musky like other blue scents, compared to a Dylan Blue (which is too musky in my opinion for a gym scent, Eau Fraiche is not, despite the wood & musk listed as notes, theyre only slightly present) this fragrance can thrive in temperature controlled environments year round! For a blue fragrance its longevity is 6 plus hours. Id also say it's one of best performing blues on the market, instead of having to over spray like with similar DNA's, this fragrance can hold its own within 2-4 sprays. I don't believe in blind buying, but Versace Man Eau Fraiche is the only one I'd reccomend. Teenagers, young adults, middle aged men, elderly; Eau Fraiche is suited for all, even some women use it for the starfruit! 10/10

The absolute all time #1 summer freshy. My girlfriend calls this the "fuck boy scent" in the best of ways (she loves it too). My go to summer/spring frag. Gym scent, not sporty. Not played out like savauge and no one will know what it is when you walk by however. I wear it day and night. Work and chill. Edit* Sprayed "Encre Nior" and a few seconds later a spray of this on the same wrist. Suddenly you mix one of the most hardcore earthy vetivers of all time with a summer time freshy making a unique you'll never smell like anyone else in the history of the world - fall scent. I did notice that the older bottle got spicier and less fresh, and my travel size is fruiter than my big new bottle probably from sitting in my car through 4 different seasons. Perhaps it depends on the batch. The scent is hard to describe. Its not soapy, its not aqua, its not green, its not sporty. Its just refreshing. The best way i can describe it is Garnier Fructis orginal shampoo which is "green apple, citrus, and a little melon" but in a masculine way. The sunnier the better for this frag. Personally i love it. Extremely happy to find a fruity "miami tropical vacation" type scent that isnt ruined with coconut when it dries down. I just wish it lasted longer and was a little fruiter honestly. With that being said, I am going to try out Aura Fresh Armaf being that it is a EDP and reviews state it lasts longer and may be fruiter? Problem is, for a "dupe" it's literally a few dollars cheaper than the real thing, so last time I needed a bottle I ended up getting the orginal. Easy blind buy.

Versace Man Eau Fraiche, now 20 years later still maintains its exceptional DNA despite reformulations, its only change is a slight reduction in performance by about an hour or two. It opens with the now oversaturated "blue" DNA but a VERY unique citrusy, fruity & crisp bite; that starfruit note, which is STILL underutilized in both mens/womens perfumery! Starfruit is aquatic, tropical & fruity but by no means cloying or too sweet. For those who've never smelt starfruit in person, this is very realistic on what youd get which is surprising its not used more! The green base emerges on the dry down, the spicy cardamom is subtle but effective, hints of saffron & woods. I adore this DNA, its masculine but leans slightly unisex! This is still what I consider as one of the best fresh/blue fragrances of all time, that starfruit is so unique, it really blends the other notes expertly; what's best is you can find this at resale stores/discounters for pennies practically! Its also age friendly! I've seen teenagers to middle aged people wear it. Its modern even after all these years.
