Ethere

Sometimes a cheap but cheerful fragrance reveals its own stroke of genius, testament to the fact that it doesn't always require expensive, natural ingredients and a luxury price tag for a fragrance to be thought-provoking and appealing to the nose. Éthéré, for which a 50ml can be had in the US for under twenty dollars, features a translucent chamomile tea note that sets it apart from the myriad fruity florals that were de rigueur in the 90s. While it has that sunny disposition, the chamomile note, reminiscent to me of the Moroccan chamomile variety (Cladanthus mixtus), often called wild chamomile, feels bright, apple cider-like, yet more floral than its aster cousins of the blue/German and Roman variety. I don't want to say that natural oil is used here (how likely could that really be?), but the effect is felt for sure. Its opening may be a bit of a shock, challenging to a nose who expects a more rounded entrance, but I find it quite stimulating, and actually evocative of smelling pure chamomile oil; whether that's deliberate or not is definitely up for debate—it could just be the budget. It also reminds of celery seed in the early stages, a crunchy watery green. After the top, the chamomile is punctuated by a tea accord, and an overall aqueous nature, with hints of watercolor violet ionones. Soft florals almost levitate in the heart, including mimosa and far away jasmine. This is aptly named, feeling weightless yet substantive. The chamomile merges with amber in the closing stages, revealing more pineapple-like facets, eventually feeling like a cordial distilled from its blooms. A rose note somehow pushes through in the late stages as well. This one is fascinating and quite an enjoyable wear for me, but it would require an open mind and setting aside prejudices about cheapies. If we were to ignore that fact, it could easily pass as an evocative niche scent (which may probably spend the same amount on materials and production!). Plus the bottle is really something else.

This invigorating green tea herbal caffeinated blend hits it out of the park for me. It is 100% unique to my nose and it not only pleases me as the wearer, but it garners compliments from strangers in the wild. And then as if it needs anything more to draw me in, it is enshrouded in the most gorgeous Lalique-inspired figural frosted glass bottle with a liquid the color of a bright mint julep and all that at a price of $23 on Amazon. I thought it would be interesting to layer Ethere with 5th Avenue by Elizabeth Arden, and the result was a dupe for Liz Claiborne! Vicky's other fragrance 'Sirene' is only $19.44 on Amazon which I just ordered, so even if it is repulsive I have another gorgeous bottle with ballet pink liquid inside.

I may agree that it came out like a little autum storm, but give it time it slows down. And in my oppinion it ́s harmonic, feminine and a class I didn ́t thought. Newbee, as I am. But i ́ve learned as well as they have problems, knowing easy marks to us of course natuarlly perfumhouses that are big, Ihave read about such perfermeries, now. Big and popular . I wonder like the "sirenes" buyer, is it big different in scense. Now I ́m go and read about Vikcy von Tiel, hear her story,. I ́m looking forward it very much !

So I don't know whether it's boredom or curiosity or probably a mixture of both but I have been trying out some lesser reviewed affordable fragrances lately, even if the reviews have been less than stellar. For some reason I keep trying these "green" herbal fragrances trying to like one of them and really I guess I have to admit that I am not a fan of them. So many of them come off as bitter, short lived and meh. But Ethere has a beautiful bottle and I have not tried any Vicky Tiel fragrances before and well, come on, 1.7 oz for $8.00?! I'm game! The bottle is literally a work of art! Beautiful and unique. The first spray is intensely bitter with that old familiar "green note" that I detest. My first thought was UGGH! Portfolio Green by Perry Ellis, so bitter and fleeting! But where Portfolio Green is bitter, fleeting and uninteresting, Ethere is much more complex and lasting. Ethere takes you on quite a ride! Yes at first you get that feeling to head over to the sink and scrub...but.. just WAIT! I am getting the celery seed note and that is bitter, but if you wait you should smell some of the florals come through eventually. Now the florals are not strong and they never will be throughout the wearing of Ethere, but in the end you do have a herbal, floral wearable fragrance. While I do not consider this a successful blind buy I have definitely bought worse and if you are a person who has curiosity about unique fragrances this is definitely well worth around $10 to try! This is celery seed all the way the first 30 minutes. Then it calms down a bit, something green but not really floral except for water lily and lily - which are both sharp - and there is definitely musk and amber which make it pretty complex. Ethere is not for everyone! It is just a little like Coriandre. I really like it. It dries down to a green scent on me, and is very fresh and different. It also is long lasting. I would recommend Ethere for the bottle alone, which is just gorgeous and fun, but the fragrance is really an interesting green/amber/musk combination. This is definitely not your almost pure alcohol floral celebrity fragrance. It is maybe a little like Chanel No. 19, but I may be wrong on that as it has been so long since I've used No. 19.

The opening notes are very citrusy, and the come down is very pleasant, with really nice forest-y and floral notes coming together for a unique musky scent. This is sort of what I imagine Wendy Froud fairies smelling like. However, I don't particularly care for how those opening notes smell on my skin, which is more comparable to "old person who just got done using the bathroom". Thankfully, it doesn't stick around long and I will also say, that smell is not apparent when you spray in on clothes/just in the air in general. I think it also helps this was so cheap, and the bottle is just stunning. I would recommend giving this a sniff, just be prepared for an odd opening if you're spraying it on skin.

Ethere by Vicky Tiel. It's a nice surprise to find these notes in a long-lasting perfume--cypress, chamomile, rose otto. It is so evocative for me of summer in the Great Lakes region, which was a season more like Fall other places, really. But it somehow combines this ecstatic, lottery-winning feeling of summer's promise in a land where summer would not mean more than 75 degrees F. Beautiful herbal smells with a celebratory vibe, and an undercurrent of moist earth. Refreshing. Never overdone or overstimulating. Natural and vibrant. I love it. For me it is a time travel device.

This was a blind buy to enter my Vicky Tiel collection. By the reviews here, I was expecting something unusual and herbal, and it is exactly what it is. On my skin, it starts off-putting with this celery smell, but the dry down is very feminine and beautiful. This Dr Jekyl/Mr Hyde reminded me of Catalyst by Halston, that also starts terrible (terrible!) only to reveal its beauty later on. On my skin it was tea and cypress all the way. I was not expecting this to last much, but lasted 8 hours on a hot day. Got complimented. And the bottle is to die for.

I reviewed this a while back, and wearing Ethère today I wanted to echo that this is really a beautifully musky floral. The dry-down is a really pretty and, to me, unusual musk. I agree the opening notes can be strong, but I only use half a spray on each wrist, and it's a watery green floral which dries down to musk in a really nice combination of fresh and warm. I think musk ought to be prominent in the pyramid. Peace.

I used to wear this one a few years ago. Fresh, clean, light and very nice to wear at office or just every-day-use. No sharp or heavy notes on me. Maybe not a wow-scent but a good one to have. Denna doften hade jag för några år sen. Härlig varje-dag-doft. Mjuk, clean, fräsch doft, Ingen rumsdödare men tydlig i sin framtoning. Ingen wow-faktor men en trevlig parfym att äga.

I get the celery seed! This is an odd, interesting, spring fragrance. It reminds me of LOTV, oakmoss and artemisia. Very herbal. The chamomile is the dominant note with cypress, lily, musk and cedar. This is close to the skin, a tad watery like a strong chamomile tea with no sweetener. Oh, and the bottle in real life is exquisite. As wonderful as any Lalique.

Nice but not unique by any means. Even with all the notes, all I get is a light and crisp tea scent. If the sweet notes and jasmine came out a little more, I think it would grab your attention. As is, it's just another watery tea floral. Ho Hum...

Bought this blind because I found Ethere on a list of favorite chamomile scents, and now I know why a 1.7 oz bottle is available for the unbelievable low price of $10 (which includes shipping!). Yes, there a reason it’s so cheap and it hit me on the first spray. The opening is a green hodgepodge of chemicals, nothing nice or easy about it. I had no idea what I was smelling, other than aldehydes and some generic “green notes”. I did find myself weirdly drawn to holding my arm up and trying to figure it out. On a cool winter day this putrid opening lasted more than 90 minutes. Ninety long minutes. During that time I resisted the urge to wash it off, and to the credit of other reviewers, Ethere does mellow out; gentle florals and a mellow tea note softening the rough edges. The transition was so abrupt that I was in awe of how something so ugly could turn beautiful. But no matter how cool and beautiful the bottle and dry down is, that opening is a rough walk. I’m now stuck with trying to figure out what to do with it.

As a huge fan of Sirene I was excited to try another Vicky Tiel scent. Today is the second day I've worn Ethere and all I can think is, "I don't want to smell like this." On me it's smelling of very damp forest, and after three hours the bitter green scent isn't delivering the promised drydown to chamomile and flowers. I can't imagine a context in my own life where this would be an appropriate scent; I imagine it being worn by a starlet in a French movie from the late 1970s about a glamourous (in a handsome way) vineyard owner's wife having an illicit affair with a poor grape picker or something. I'm rarely tempted to wash off a scent but I'm really torn: see this one through to the end of the day (for science!) or wash it off and immediately improve my quality of life.

All I get is Celery seed, I think we have a past its glory days here. I did as suggested, left it on for a few hours but the Celery was just overwhelming. If like me you collect beautiful bottles this is one you should add to your collection it is just gorgeous. Frosted glass with naked women and a clam shell lid. The blue shade of the juice just adds to the ethereal beauty of the bottle. This is worth the money if you like pretty things to decorate your shelves just don't be too disappointed if the juice is off.

Not for me...almost water in fact...there was a funky odor then nothing. I find there to be no reason to purchase this. I am surprised seeing how Serene is so delicious! Of course, Vicky's dresses are hit and miss to so maybe it's just her style? Happy Perfuming! ♥

I'm beginning to see a trend taking shape: Vicky Tiel perfumes open big, in fact, HUGE. The basis of this induction is pretty slim, I'll admit (n = 2), but upon applying with a decidedly light hand ETHERE, I found myself somewhat overwhelmed all over again. This time, however, the cloud was not of aldehydes but of what smelled remarkably like a two-note composition of hyacinth and celery. As ETHERE dried down, it became nicer and nicer, to the point where finally, by the end, I can actually say that I like it. Still, it was a rather rough journey getting there. ETHERE becomes, eventually, a close-to-the skin lovely floral green, but the flowers really have to wait their turn for the greens to make room. It might be the cypress which is ending up smelling very celery-like to my nose, who knows? With all of the listed notes the possible explanations abound. The house of Vicky Tiel really manages to create some lovely drydowns. The question, I'm afraid, is: who has the patience to wait? In a culture undergoing progressive Twitterization, people are apt to judge perfumes by the first 140 characters, rather than waiting for an epic poem to unfold. And if those first 140 characters are too bold, they might just run for a scrub, as I was frankly tempted to do with both SIRENE and ETHERE. Now I know, with the benefit of hindsight, that to have done so would have been a mistake.

I sniffed the bottle before trying it on my skin, and it was all alcohol and aldehydes, but I ventured on and tried it. Opens with something vegetable... Yep! Sherapop nailed it right on the head... CELERY! Celery seed, aldehydes and tea. Ugh, couldn't apply this one at work! ***WAIT! We have a chameleon here!*** It's drying down now and the celery seed smell has all but gone away. Now I'm getting chamomile, green / tea and a fresh-cut wood smell. The chamomile puts me to mind of honey. Maybe that's the mimose. After a short time, most of the chamomile is gone and what I'm left with is something softly flora and a heaping dose of tea. EEK! had to edit a bit... I've just started itching where I applied this. Have to wash it off! Darn sensitive skin!!!! :( I really like tea fragrances when I'm in the mood for them... but I have to be in the mood. This isn't my favorite tea fragrance, but I have to say that it's interesting and not half bad. Bottom line: If you're a tea fragrance lover, don't be put off by the opening! Wait for it to calm down and enjoy.

I recently bought a small bottle of Ethere and tried it today. It's always interesting for me to read others' reviews because it truly highlights how our differing body chemistries can react to the same fragrance. When I spritzed this on this morning, I was very disappointed because it smelled like it had gone bad - it was very bitter and just YUCK. However, by the time I got to work (about 45 mins later), it had totally changed to a yummy floral, slightly watery fragrance. As I'm typing this, it's 2:45 in the afternoon and the fragrance is still hanging tough. This is one of those scents that I'll wear through the Fall season to cheer me up & remind me of Summer.

I blind bought this because it was a 5 usd offer. This is the strangest perfume to me, yet i can't stop sniffing it it's like a camping made fragrance. Camomille, tea and cypress make a very "environmental" perfume, not in a air freshener way, but in a very very herbal way. I couln't dare a spray but i did, just a tiny spray, and the opening was like a truck.
