Eau de Hongrie

When I first sampled Eau de Hongrie, I was watching "Renegade Nell", which is lightly fantastical, taking place in eighteenth century England. The scent fit the show perfectly, causing me to fall in love. It just feels golden, soft and pretty. While I am not personally familiar with Tokaji wine, I can detect a similarity to a chilled American mead, with its gentle honeyed sweetness. This lacks the heaviness or the animalic quality of some other honey fragrances. Instead, it feels quite clean, with a vintage bar soap essence. The immortelle and jasmine notes together create a wildflower quality that feels feminine, but not in a stuffy way. Everything blends nicely; nothing awkwardly stands out. My mom described it as "old world," which I think is quite fitting. It is not what I would consider to be mature or dated from the current perspective, but rather from a hazy time in the past. It somehow also reminds me of Epcot. While I can't say it smells like Laila (or any of the various scents I have sampled there), it still reminds me of it and would fit in well with their roster if they were to ever showcase products representing Hungary. Longevity is moderate without leaving too much of a trail, but this is the type of fragrance you want to remain intimate. Headache-free, so far. I purchased a full bottle and it is the only 100ml in my collection. Most of the actual scents I enjoy do not come in the most fun bottles, so I could not resist getting Eau de Hongrie in the little wine bottle. It came in a satin padded box and felt so luxurious to open. Price per ml is fair for the quality.

Oh my goodness, I love this. This is grown-up, boozy honey that is ever so slightly spicy, entirely sophistcated and, as another reviewer below put it, almost royal. This is sweet, but not sweet as you know it. It is feminine, refined and sexy. This says "don't mess with me". It says "I am quietly important". It is full bodied with plenty of depth - much like Tokaji wine which I am a HUGE fan of. It does indeed remind me of Tokaji - its bottle suits the fragrance perfectly - but thankfully without smelling as though you have spent all day at a boozy lunch. Sillage is pretty good and it lasts about four hours on me. This is certainly an evening scent, and perhaps one for the winter months. As a final note, if you hate cloves, please don't let this put you off of this fragrance. I tend to find cloves make everything smell ugly and medicinal on me (Mugler's Angel is my worst nightmare) but in this case it is so beautifully blended, its presence is enough to add warmth, but not enough that you will detect what it is. This is going on my wish list!

Beautiful, smooth, somehow heavenly, royal scent. Very nice. Sweet, warm, not too spicey, not too sugary. I am hungarian, and also a wine lover. Tokaji Aszú is different, than vines generally: it is sweet, balmy, mature. Definitely the main note in this creation is this: honey and raisin. Actually I dont like honey scents, but this one is so wonderfully balanced, that once you smell it, you just cant forget it. Linear on me, so no surprises. Well, maybe it has a bit different dry down, it reminds me a scented eraser gum, which we used to have at my childhood 40 years ago :-). Not bothering me at all, indeed! I am in love with this perfume, and so proud of you Viktoria! Normally I like perfumes with one hell of a sillage and lasting power, but this definitely is not the one. No problem though, when I wear this (and ultimately I wear this a lot), I put the bottle in my handbag, and reapply it every 3-4 hours. Also spray it on my wrist, as I really enjoy smell it every now and then.

I am not as wowed by this perfume as I had hoped. Like the original Hedonist, which I owned and sold, it starts out really beautiful and so promising but fades into a scent that is very flat, with low sillage. Hongrie smells like honey-wine, maybe a tad herbal, with some grapefruit in the top notes. It reminded me at first very much of Escada Collection and Botrytis too--but I like those two better and think they are far better perfumes. This dried down into a flat/dull honey-scent whereas Hedonist dries down into a flat/dull peach. I would possibly pay half-price for Eau de Hongrie, it smells nice enough, but $165 is asking too much. Edit: I chose 3-6 hours for longevity, and it still says zero. Is this rigged?!

This is lovely, with a similar boozy, spiced vibe to the original Hedonist. Where that one goes in a more peach and rum direction, however, this one emphasizes the honey and immortelle. I also find it very similar to Manos Gerakinis' Immortelle, which I recently sampled. Eau de Hongrie is a little lighter and more sheer, however, and the jasmine and honey work to soften the maple vibe, which I find a little overwhelming in Immortelle. Like all of Viktoria Minya's fragrances, this is a beautiful composition made of high-quality materials. Also in line with her other offerings, it's an intimate scent, but therefore the longevity is very good.

Ooh, I really like this! Just got my samples today and tried this one first. I have a horrible head cold and this perfume even bypasses my stuffed nose and invaded my senses with a smooth opening of honey, then the wine starts to blossom. I don't get much citrus, but the clove and sandlewood are stars in this. After 2 hours it is still wonderful. I hate to say it, but it reminds me of the original hedonist, for a better price. I see a full bottle in my future.

I must update my review, to be fair, as I sampled this perfume again. Hongrie opens quietly, but it blossoms as it remains on the skin, retaining a bit of complexity into the drydown. It smells like honey syrup and maybe some herbs and a little fruit. Sillage is decent, wafting up to my nose here and there but never overpowering. I still think this is a cousin to Botrytis and Escada Collection, but a little more down-to-earth, softer, and more natural.

I am from Hungary and I am a botrytis lover. So I love this scent. It is very similar to botrytis but lighter somehow. One of my favs❤️ but a con: it is difficult that Vikoria Minya doesn'n make smaller versions only 100 ml. This is not an everyday scent for me so 100 ml is a huge amount. I know it is a niche thing to make only 100 ml versions for 10 years but that's why I have 1/4 bottle Confetto by Profumum Roma on my table since 10 years. 😊😁

Eau de Hongrie would have been my childhood quintessence of fragrance. I’m not sure whether it’s because my mother wore something similar when I was young or something else. Honey and florals, a contrast of citrus and spices, a touch of powder, and a base of musk and sandalwood. Sweet and intoxicating, but not cloying. It is a scent of anticipation, somehow. The night is about to begin, wonderful things lie ahead, sparkling and festive.

I had the pleasure of sampling this beauty today. It had such a light sweet gossamer honey note with the lightest touch of wine - just a kiss of wine. I think my eyes rolled into the back of my head when I sniffed it. I will say that it wore pretty much exactly like Hedonist - same honey note - and they were too similar for me to justify purchasing it, but all day long, I kept sniffing my wrists and sighing.

An elegant, opulent, languid veil of honey scent. The clove anchors this scent but doesn't turn it "christmasy" (thank goodness). But yeah there's a delicious undercurrent of spice, and the wine note is apparent as well. Just so lovely. Prominent jasmine scares me but it's all dependent on the type of jasmine, and this kind doesn't turn bathroom-freshener on me. I just love it.

Absolutely gorgeous. I liked it the first time, but the more I wear it the more I fall in love. It's honey done right- not too cloying or too sugary sweet, just enough with a hint of sparkling quality that lifts it up, probably the wine. A very feel good cool weather scent.

I love Tokaji wine, so I bought a sample of this fragrance and it is wonderfully reproducing the spirit of tokaji without making you feel you are wearing a wine on your body. (You wouldnt smell like you are drunk lol) It is sweet, powerful and long lasting.

One of the Best in my small collection! And one of the Best Honey based fragrance in the niche offering right now!!! Sweet, mounth watering, dreamy, gourmand lovers best choice! On top of thet long lasting! I absolutely love love love this fragrance!

The epitome of honey scents. So beautiful. The wine note is present, without causing the fragrance to come off boozy, as in Botrytis (which I also love). Just enough subtle citrus to brighten and barely detectable spice to round things out.

My newest crush... When I was about 10 years old, my parents brought Tokaji from their trip to Hungary, they allowed me to taste a tiny drop of it only - and all those childhood memories just came back all of a sudden. Mesmerizing scent!

I just want to add that Eau de Hongrie is the closest thing I've found to the dc legend, Botrytis. I did a side-by-side and they're very similar. Both fade quickly on me though, but still so worth it for that gorgeous honey!! 🍯 🥂

This is magic. So irresistible. The combination of jasmin and honey is aphrodisiac. Sensual and feminine. Every woman should wear this perfume. Even I want to buy it, I don't care, I'm a guy, I just want it!

I adore it. I adore it and I adore Viktoria Minya. Brilliant and beautiful use of honey. It's fabulous and I must try Tokaji wine soon! Really creamy, the right touch of boozy, I love it. 8/10

It was love at first sniff. It is a wonderful warm and clear composition of honey, florals and spices. I find it very sensual. (I haven't tried Tokaji wine, neither the Botrytis perfume.)

I NEED HER TO MAKE AN ABSOLUTE OF THIS PERFUME!!!! It smells so good but it just doesnt last lone on the skin.

Eau de Hongrie is linear on me, with the notes present being jasmine, honey, wine, something fruity (apricot?), tonka sweetness and musk, general order of strength. Despite the rich notes, this is not a heavy scent. Then wine gives it a sort of clarity. It does remind me of a delicate white wine, though it's not boozy. The honey in this is nice, with a musky base that rounds it out and makes it more realistic. But this is primarily a jasmine scent on my skin. It definitely has the house base present in Viktoria Minya's Hedonist. It's sweet, and has no sharp edges. For some reason I imagine a beautiful blond woman with a cloche hat, waiting for a passenger train and wearing this. The overall scent is pretty simple. For a take on the honeyed grapes / wine theme, I prefer Ginestet Botrytis

Ooohhh...something very smoky, erotic scent...sweet but not like sugar- it is obligated for WOMAN who are really woman- after the ages 35. I don't detected Tokaji but not too sweet honey and smoke first of all. Very beautifule, soft and warm scent for night and ocassion (for evening dress). Not loud, elegant and smart.I have a 15 ml but I will buy a whole bottle! Edit: of course there is jasmin in it- very good pairing with tokaji and honey.Heavenly!!!!

If you love the original Hedonist then this is your next best alternative as it’s a even more hedonistic and sweetly decadent version. I love the honeyed florals as it’s very honeysuckle-like with a heady night-flowering-jasmine. This is what nectar must taste like to hummingbirds. I would rename this to Miel Des Flores to better describe the scent. A heavenly and indulgently intoxicating version of Hedonist.

When I sprayed it on, I got punched in the face by a very strong alcohol-smell. After maybe 15-30 minutes, this softened a lot. I get honey, jasmine and fruity wine. It is sweet, but not as cloying as I expected based on the honey and tokaji. It perfectly imitates the smell of tokaji in my opinion. Nice, but too mature for my taste.

this opens with honey, wine and immortelle. the immortelle is quite strong on my skin, along with honey. later on i get a hint of clove and tonka, but primarily this is honey and immortelle. it is reminiscent of botrytis, but i remember that one being a bit sweeter and had something that smelled almost fruity to me.

A very sweet, boozy and resinous fragrance. I have the l'occitane and this is less sweet and dense. The overall effect is a light honey scent. The wine fades quickly as do the spices. It becomes pretty meh very quickly. Poor spillage but hangs around for many hours as a skin scent on me.

I was going nuts trying to figure out what this smell reminds me of because it was immediately so familiar! I finally got there: I think it smells really similar to the African Nectar tea I sometimes drink! It’s a really pleasant sweet honey scent.

It opens with boozy scent of raisins and honey on me, quite strong. Then dries down to smooth spicy honey scent with tonka - reminds me of chocolate. It's not too sweet, just a beautiful gourmand. Longevity and projection are great.

This is a nice floral honey scent that leans just enough on the sweet side that I'm not really interested in pursuing it further. But if you love sweet sweet scents, this might be a very good option for you.

I adore wine-honey based scents. Just love it. My husband likes it as well. A greatly designed concept for a unisex perfume. It s longlasting, the fruity scents are in a perfect proportion for me.

boozy and sweet. good sillage but only lasts 3-4 hours. i could see this for special occasions during winter but not an every day fragrance.

FOR A WOMAN: It looks like Viktoria has concocted a fragrance that allows you to rest in peace while you're still alive. Welcome to your tomorrow. This has all the fancy add-ons to pacify your hedonist ways. The girly aspects are outlined by the continuum of maple. In the fragrance world, the note of jasmine can be a little nudnik but here, it rests subtly under the balsamic work never interfering in Hongrie's catering purpose of satisfying sweet tooths. Heymoe9, if I could give you 17 balloons, I would. I wholeheartedly agree with your comparison. This does parallel the Original Hedonist. Peachy-floral vs. Honey floral: That's the dichotomy of the fragrances in question. FOR A MAN: Unless you're Ruby Rhod from the 5th Element, welcome to your NOT so promising future. For masculine purposes, this could benefit from a different kind of spirit(alcohol) for a certain kind of booziness. The fellas see wine in the line up and want "wino." Do keep in mind, this fragrance isn't meant to be boozy. The tokaji in conjunction with everything honey fortifies this as a feminine fragrance. The lemon and grapefruit is baby-faced and doesn't really add the requisite umph to qualify this as unisex(the citrus was the last line of defense before deeming this totally feminine). While wearing this fragrance, you'll definitely learn something new about yourself. You're gonna find out how much you can truly tolerate honeyed fragrances because this has some serious hang time. On another note, this is a jasmined version of Stephane Humbert Lucas's Une Nuit a Doha. FOR WHOMEVER CARES: I think Fragrantica's gender-neutral tag gives way to unfair pressure. If they had labeled this feminine only, it wouldn't be scrutinized for not living up to the label of unisex.

I’ve run across a few honey scents as of late, as this is one more to add to the pile. Eau de Hongrie’s sweet, but not overly so. It’s a buttery, somewhat floral, somewhat citric scent that’s steeped in a dry, woody-honey, but there’s not much else to look at. The company blurb declares this to be a “modern version of ‘Eau de la Reine de Hongrie’” but I don't get the connection. I wrote a piece on the Osmothèque a while back where I sniffed their holding of the original “Eau de Hongrie" and I recall it being camphorous and quite herbal. This is neither camphorous nor herbal, and I’m having a tough time differentiating between it and the myriad of other honey scents I’ve smelled, some of which were celebuscent cheapies. It’s pleasant enough, but it reminds me too much of a muted Ginestet Botrytis—a better, more interesting scent overall.

My latest full bottle purchase, and current favorite scent. Had a sample that I went through in a streak, and wanted to re-up immediately (a rare occurrence). Makes my mouth water, though it's not a gourmand. The honey is front and center, yet never too sweet. The wine is present, but not overtly boozy. The flowers shimmer in the mix, but subtle and never screechy. The spices are present, but just serve to add structure to the blend. This is so very perfectly, masterfully put together. I wish it lasted a little longer on my skin, but I adore it nonetheless.

This is a tricky one, cause I know very well the Tokaji Aszú! If you expect this to be just like that, you will be disappointed, however if you stay open to the experience and just wait to see how the perfumer interprets this delicious wine specialty, you will be surprised by the subtility and research that is behind it! It has the winey aspect, it has the sweet aspect, it has the spicy-citrusy side that are all present, but taken to a different level, rather impressively! Very big sillage, if you like that, you should definitely try!

I'm baffled. I ordered a sample from a stockist and I can hardly smell anything. Either I've been conned or I am anosmic to something for the first time, completely. Update: Okay, I'm getting it a bit now. It is very, very soft though; bit of honey, bit of spice, and very subtle. It is nice, but not that noticeable, so not sure if it would be worth paying a lot of money for. I'll have to give this a few more tries, but I would say it is a daytime perfume, not noticeable enough for evening.

This is sooo sexy, in an effortless way. Imagine being at a beachfront resort, skin is hot from the sun, wearing high end suntan lotion, and drinking a boozy fruity sweet cocktail. Somewhere nearby you can catch whiffs of a barbecue place grilling meat with pineapple. But from the sea you get fresh breeze and scent of bouquets of flowers drifting over. Everything here works in perfect harmony. Every woman should smell like this.

Oh,how I would love to try this perfume! I adore boozy scents and this one has some of my favorite ingredients. The addition of tokaji wine makes terribly intriguing. That's the problem when I browse Fragrantica. It can turn into a bit of a Tantalus agony at times. Sigh.

I also received the sample, its smells very nice but very strong and long lasting... I think the sample is gonna last for a while before i decide to buy the bottle... (though the bottle is 100ml which is big enough to last for a while. a good investment :)

This is a lovely honeyed scent, it smells a little floral and vanillic, but also innocent like the head of a doll. I love this. I don't think this is too mature, it's just an elegant floral gourmand scent. It smells golden!

If you loved Laura Biogiotti's Venezia or Escada Collection (original), you will LOVE this! I did love them, and this is a gorgeous perfume!

If this smells like Tokaji tastes, I'm in. I love her!!!!! :) I can't wait!
