Antidote

A modern aromatic composition that blends so masterfully so many different notes. I will go so far as to say that this is a top-shelf contemporary fragrance for me - absolutely Stunning! Near perfection for me! I don't understand someone with taste not appreciating it. Accords layered upon accords with individual notes revealing themselves at stages throughout a little more forward. It is so vastly different from anything else out there...it transcends what a traditional note pyramid comprises. Some may apply this and say it is an oriental while others (including myself) would call it a gorgeous woody aromatic that has oriental aspects. This really does show uniqueness with each wearing and can "shape-change", transform and mystify. While at times it is a very aromatic mint & Sambac jasmine top blended with lavender and rich spices along with a base of wood...at other times it comes forward as a rich and resinous incense filled with various floral hues and overtones. I actually find that it wears well in both cold and warm weather - while it may be better to wear it lighter in the heat, it will also react incredibly with body temperature. It is one of the few scents that others can smell on me (great projection) more than I can smell it on myself. A sniff of the back of my hand is personally wonderful, but it has an intense aura and leaves a scent trail that is always noticeable. If Viktor & Rolf can do any better - than I challenge them to impress me. Hands down...show-stopper. Compliments galore and you will smell like nobody else in the room, unless you are in a room with me. Cheers! Update: I am so, so impressed with Viktor & Rolf's Antidote. I will inch my score up to 9.5/10! Not because I found new notes, but because I was able to find, besides the after-shave balm (which is so wonderful, light and radiating), but I ended up purchasing the after-shave liquid (in spray form). My only slight complaint about Antidote (and it's also a compliment, as it is a wonderful intimate scent) is that it is not loud and I need to apply a fair amount to really radiate the fragrance. The after-shave spray is fantastic, as I can utilize the 4.2oz of it as a refresher when wearing Antidote EDT. The balm is there on days I shave - I like a little facial hair (nothing permanent) and I usually shave twice/week. When I do, one of the first after-shave balms I reach for is Antidote, which leads me to the EDT and the indulgence begins. I give kudos to V&R for not just creating a masterpiece fragrance, but a whole line of products that compliment the amazing serum that is Antidote!

I got a chance to pick up a 75 ml bottle of this in Dubai recently and went for it. I had sampled Antidote sometime before and was - as many before me - not terribly impressed. However, the growing appreciation for this in the community (indirectly correlated as usual to actual availability), and the notion that it takes some time to figure out such a complex fragrance, led me to pull the trigger for $40. Clearly this is a fragrance that you need to 'work through' to appreciate and I know it may take quite a bit of time to get the notes (which others refer to as 'popping up' through the life of the fragrance). All said, however, what carries through the time with Antidote is a certain minty incense and clean lavendar. This is absolutely fine for me and is actually one of the better incense fragrances I have smelled recently. It reminded me of Gucci Envy at times but Antidote is clearly more targetted at an older audience. In short, Antidote is quite understated, classic in its execution and definitely a quality scent. It's downside is that it could probably do with more projection (especially as I get a bit anxious about heavy applications of such a complex fragrance, three sprays is enough). I recommend this - if you can find a bottle - as a versatile, formal fragrance that is non-offensive and definitely an interesting wear. If you wear fragrances for yourself - which you should - you will undoubtedly appreciate this. I am looking forward to spending more time with Antidote. Edit, 28 January, 2014: Have just recently picked up Antidote after-shave balm (100 ml for less than $4) and must say that it is a really good complement to the EdT. Highly recommended, very close to the original scent, doesn't seem to lose any notes, and serves as a very good base for added longevity with the EdT. Excellent.

08. may 2013 Ok, i usually don ́t review the male fragrances since i don ́t wear them personally but i have gifted this one to my best male friend recently who happens to be my roommate as well, so i get a chance to smell it quite often now. And i tell you, that if he wouldn ́t be my friend it would be very hard to control myself when he ́s around. This just happened to be one of the most aphrodisiac male fragrances i have EVER smelled. I guess on a right person it can make miracles! He is dark haired and has a bit of southern blood in his veins and his most favorite fragrances are "Farenheit", "Farenheit 32" and now this one. They suit him perfect. This fragrance is more suitable for the name of another V&R fragrance named "Spicebomb", since for me this is exotic spice bomb indeed. Very oriental with huge outburst of incense, cinnamon and cardamon, this scent has a fantastic sillage but sadly a limited staying power, since it is not much detectable after couple of hours (might be a skin reacting problem). I don ́t get anything green out of this frgarance at all, like some of users have mentioned before. Seriously i had to ask my friend not to wear it much when i am around since this is a real aphrodisic in a bottle (for me at least)! If i would smell it on another man (who suits the fragrance) i tell you, i wouldn ́t be able to resist. I might try to though but i admit i would fail. :) For me this is pure sex in the bottle for men! I read that some women tried to wear it, but i guess this one should be left as a male territory strictly uncrossed. Some things better be left alone. Girls instead of wearing it yourself just give it to your man. :)

antidote is one of those fragrances well crafted like rocabar by hermes, u can feel the complexity of the notes without any confusion or disorder. it's so complex that anyone, based on his own experience, can say different things. it seems to be a safe scent instead is very polarizing. if i have to describe the smell, antidote is a mix of bleu de chanel edp-boss bottled-ysl jazz+ herbal notes. the less interesting part is the opening, fresh with the bergamot but nothing impressive. then the woody-spicy notes begin to come, and after a while i detect somthing like apple and cinnamon tipical of boss bottled. after an hour the herbal notes are more detectable. it's only my humble opinion on what i can smell on my skin. the final result is a great spring-fall fragrance, maybe it doesnt have the "wow factor" but i love this juice and i consider antidote a very very interesting fragrance. the most disappointing part is the performance, almost average in longevity and sillage, just decent in projection for the first hour. it's not worthy for crazy euros or dollars but if u find a good deal buy it like i did(125ml for 50euros).if there's a tester still available in a store try on your wrist because it's so much better on the skin than on paper. un profumo fatto molto bene. scent:8,5 long: 7 sillage:6,5 versatility:8 bottle:8 uniqueness: 8,5 compliment factor-7,5 my vote:8,5 in one word: complex ps: it was sealed but the sprayer came off loosely. i dont know if im the only one with this issue

Looking over the "pros" and I agree with most of them. 1.Enigmatic ✔️ 2.Unique (for it's time) ✔️ 3.Leads wearers out of their comfort zone. ❌ No, it's firmly in my comfort zone and super easy to wear IMO. Powdery, creamy, jasmine, lavender, slightly aromatic with a light dusting of cinnamon, nutmeg, and mint over a light leather that leaves pretty fast. It reminds me of many successful fragrances but is not a dead ringer for any of them. Reflection Man comes to mind first, then, PDM Darly, Le Male, Penhaligon's Sartorial, Original Santal (slightly) Platinum Egoist (slightly). Into the mid and the violet becomes more apparent in tandem with the sandalwood. The final drydown is still sandalwood with a touch of powdery musk, and then finally the cedar shows up. Why the hell did they discontinue this, it's fantastic! But.... longevity isn't great on my skin. By the 3.5 hour mark it can only be detected if I put my nose less than an inch from my skin. I already have vintage Le Male and Reflection Man and I'd still consider buying this but... I wouldn't pay outrageous prices for it as I'd burn through the bottle fast. Excellent creation that may have inspired many others, or been inspired by Le Male. Scent 8.5/10 Performance 3.5/10

Antidote, is one of kind men's cologne from V.R. I remember when it first came out, I found it to be too cloying. After several years, I was bored of what was coming out on the market so I went searching for Antidote. I finally found a place, so I bought it. Idk why but I found it so appealing with an opening mix of lavender with vanilla/tonka bean vib. After a good 30 minutes, I started to pick up some amber with cardamom/nutmeg blend. Floating above all those notes is several floral notes from orange blossom with freesia. Ik what mint, orange, bergamot and geranium smell like. Those notes are either so faint or so insignificant that I wasn't able to smell it at all. Longevity and Sillage are decent, last at least 6hrs+ at arms length distance. It's a shame that Spicebomb took over and this juice was left behind on a dusty shelf. Well, if you find a bottle...grab it! This juice isn't your mainstream fragrances that's out there. It's a stand alone with a unique blend of herbal/sweet vib with a solid blend of woody note. Perfect for fall/winter months, better for evening wear. Most definitely too much for office/workplace wear. 9.5/10 in my book

I thought I'd never smelled Viktor & Rolf Antidote but upon obtaining a decant of an older batch just recently, I've remembered that this is something I do recall from a decade ago, and it's phenomenal, mysterious, and signature scent worthy. Perhaps some nostalgia, even from a decade ago, makes me want to keep smelling it over and over again, but it's likely the combination of notes that hits a few areas just right. The note listing is immense, so I'd mainly hone in a few accords: the freshness of the lavender, soft woodiness of the cedar, and sharpness of the mint that adds a little bit of an edge to an otherwise smooth and unassuming mixture. I Antidote is classic, vaguely in the barbershop fougere sort of way, a little closer to Chanel Pour Monsieur EDT than some of the other kin, but still in separate territory, a composition somehow unlike those yet reminiscent of the same type of gentleman that might wear it. Performance is quite stellar for an EDT, with quite strong projection and longevity. Really a superb blend, an instant favorite and one that I hope to acquire. 9 out of 10

This was my signature scent from 2006 to 2008 when it was still available at Bloomingdale’s. I held onto the original bottle I purchased back then, cherishing the last few quarter-sprays left. Though nearly empty, I safeguarded it, occasionally indulging in a whiff from the atomizer for a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Full-size bottles—whether new or lightly used—now command absurd prices on eBay and other resale platforms. However, after some persistence, I managed to find a legitimate auction offering authentic 2mL sample bottles at a reasonable price. I couldn't resist and picked up a few. While the scent remained true to memory, it was noticeably subdued—likely a result of age and its original EDT formulation. As another reviewer aptly noted, this fragrance would make a fantastic modern counterpart to Viktor & Rolf's Spicebomb. If V&R were to re-release it—ideally as an EDT and, even better, as an EDP—I have no doubt it would be met with strong appreciation and impressive sales.

Simply stunning! This is a very classy fragrance. The presentation and advertising really capture the mood of this very well There are so many notes at work here that it’s quite hard to distinguish single accords. I would say though that it definitely has a floral heart and a smoky, warm and resinous drydown. The top notes are even harder to distinguish to my nose. The best I could say was that although I sense a fleeting presence of citrus in the top, it’s not really citrusy; more herbal and spicy. It’s distinguished, refined and sexy. When I’m wearing this I can easily imagine myself in a full tuxedo, at a French Riviera casino with a gorgeous woman on one arm and a glass of aged whiskey in the other. Sillage is more than noticeable without having to sniff yourself and the longevity is quite good. It lasts on me for most of a working day. Overall I’d be giving this fragrance an 8/10.

Antidote is the winner when it comes to my most worn scent last decade - until i ran out in autumn 2018. I finally received my second bottle of this legit magical elixir. The combination of notes brings me associations of circus and music festivals with the loud colorful jumble of hedonic elements. However, the scent itself is more likely to get associated with aristocratic luxury than the smell of a festival. Antidote offers a complex flower bouquet, white musk, spices, earthy woods, vanilla, leather, a bubblegum vibe, a make-up vibe, incense... All those faces + more cross each other during a day's wear. It's a daring, mysterious, seducing male fragrance with strong and bold projection. It's especially daring in professional contexts, as it's hard to abstract from the playful jumble of notes.

I'd much rather pay higher prices for this than some of the other niche colognes I've paid $100's for. This is a clean/green/woods scent that reminds me of an Abercrombie and Fitch cologne i wore in high school. I think it was called Abercrombie woods maybe. That was 15 years ago, so maybe I'm not remembering the Abercrombie smell correctly. Anyway - I've been sampling Tom ford vert des bois this past week and I think these two are similar. Antidote isn't necessarily groundbreaking - but it smells very good and can be worn for a multitude of occasions. If you're looking to add a heavy woods/green scent to your collection, and don't mind forking over some bennies, this is a great option. PS - the bottle is sweet. 8/10

I used to wear this many years ago. I still have half a bottle, I stopped wearing it cause I found it too cloying- especially in warm weather. Today I tried it again and I really missed it. To me this smells like no other out there. It's spicy and heavy but very different from Spicebomb. This is more herbal and magical. Somebody mentioned Gandalf below and I can see where it's coming from. It's quite a mature scent not for the youngest boys. Also the bottle is stylish and mythical with a green liquid - inspired by Middle Ages and wizardry. Antidote is one of my favourite winter fragrances, I sincerely hope they will bring this back again one day. Scent 9/10 (very unique) Longevity 8/10 Projection 7/10 Design 10/10

I managed to get a bottle of this and God I am soooooo glad I did. There is something so mysterious about this fragrance. There are other reviewers on here that said that they didn`t like this at first but when they went back to it and tried it again, they loved it. That is the enigma that is Antidote. It changes like the tide, some days it smells wrong but wearable but other days it just smells soooo good. The packaging is great, the bottle is simply beautiful and the contents........well words can not describe just how wonderful it is. You need to try it, not just once, not just in the Winter.....just try it and you will love it, if not at first, then sometime, and without regret.

A super safe scent for men. It has the perfect hint of masculinity and is really a hit with the ladies. I was lucky enough to find this in my local fragrance shop (last bottle) I purchased it as a complete blind buy off of the hype in the community in mind. All the notes and depth truly made an amazing fragrance. A true antidote, the fruity top is nice, I get great spicy cinnamon and lavender with freshness from the mint and vanilla throughout the life of the fragrance. Perfect mix of sweet and spicy, and longevity of the fragrance lasted for over 8 hours of work for me. Not sure about how well it projected, but I could still smell it on my wrist after work.

When it first came out I remember it being very sweet! Just recently I came across this fragrance and tried it again and I still found it sweet but much more attractive smokey/powdery aroma. I do pick up a hint of a floral aroma..it completes this juice. Both Longevity and Silage is better than moderate lasting over 6-8hrs. Finally thoughts, When I first sprayed it on my skin yes it's a bit sweet but it quickly changes to a more warm/woodsy/spicy juice coming from vanilla, amber and musk supported by sandalwood, lavender and incense coming altogether as a fall /winter fragrance. To describe this fragrance in a word...luxurious or elegant =8/10

A modern version of Gucci Envy (one of my all time favorites). This one is sweeter, and the intensity is tone down a bit. Weird thing is, I got a 1.7oz for $26.99 at Perfumania, it was discounted 50%!. I guess the reason is, locally, people are not buying this one (and it has nothing to do with seasons, since we only have 2, very hot and humid is the first one, and less hot and humid is the second one). This means we don't have the issues of what to wear/when, people just wear what makes them feel good....any time, any day, any season. Perfect for me, now I am one of the few wearing this......but I still prefer Envy.

One of the best mainstream I ever tried. Similar on vibes and potency with Gucci Envy, they are cousins. very good longevity - 7-8 hours on my skin, good silage. Still have it in my collection and I am using very carefully. @Kasque Noire - probably your sample is something else or maybe dated, compromised, because nothing from yur description is suitable to this stunning fragrance. or maybe this is your perception, but comparsion with Avon fragrances is simply innappropriate. A BIG love from me and a huge compliment getter - unique, nowadays! Not even in a small percent similarity with Sage Spell V&R, sorry. 8.5/10

I am absolutely baffled by some of the reviews, I guess different people get wildly different experiences from fragrances. Someone below likens it to a freshly laundered white shirt, for me it couldn't be any further away from this. It's a beautiful, sexy, date night fragrance, definitely not office safe and something that divides opinion. It's probably gotten me the most compliments but I also know people who really dislike it. On another note, I've had a total of 3 bottles and the spray has broken on all 3, just me or has anyone else had this??

My good I love this fragrance. Why do they always discontinue the unique and beautiful fragrances? I did my usual run around all shops that I do, whenever I am looking for a new scent, smelling literally everything they have, until I find something that sticks out. Way back in 2007, at my local Fenwick's store. This was it. A dreamy, incense quality to it but never sickly. If anyone knows of anything that is produced in the UK, that is similar (or a strong clone) please let me know.

my favorite perfume all time , very deep mysterious soft unique elegant , being discontinued is too hard to accept for such a masterpiece , as much as was hard to discontinue Gucci Rush . when looking to the composition Antidote you can never imagine how it will smell , many ingredients to have a nice perfume is really genius work . unfortunately i stopped using my bottle after using half of it not to lose the rest since i believe always that genuine is always the best .

I hear many people talk about fragrances that you have to power through the opening to enjoy. Not so with Antidote, as it smells amazing from the beginning until the end. Everybody smells something different with this one, but to me it is just simply spicy and sweet. As to whether or not it is worth V&R's asking price, I'm going to say yes. There is nothing else that smells like this, it is not very well known, and you will likely be the only one wearing it.

Love this !! So hard to find now, what a shame they discontinued this unique gem. It does share a Gucci Envy vibe but replace the ginger with a floral note , as an Antidote to the female V&R Flowerbomb, and if you like one, you will like the other. It also has a YSL LNDH feeling as well , it's that type of fragrance, but make no mistake, it's it's own scent. If the color purple had a smell, lol, it's this. Grab a bottle if you can before it's just a memory.

beautiful green fougere fragrance.love the allure homme vibe it gives me up top...the lavender in this done very classy....the citruses are beautiful as well.but the price tag is ridiculous now...its an awesom 9/10 juice but not worth that price tag.buy a 2/5 ml sample and you will be good to go.its a must try..,...very unique high class designer fragrance...sad it didnt sell so well and they had to discontinue this...a shame really :( love this stuff

A difficult decision to make. Its great but overpriced. If you love it , it will definitely worth it to bring this gem back to your collection as it is discontinued. but only if you had it before, otherwise you have far too many better options within this range of price both in designer and niche world. It still shine the same way it did in 2007. Elegent,lovely,wearable,Beautiful and complex with fair longevity and projection. 4/5 +30

This is very complex fantastic scent. Woody, spicy, minty, floral, sweety, incensy, leathery... U cant expect that everybody can understand it. Strong projection and great longevity. Sexy, very hot as fire. Can be worn daily, casual, and 2office. Perfect 4 romantic occasions. Better for fall, winter and spring. All ad etc remind me the movie: The Perfume. It is really magical elixir.

Magical scent. It's so deep, delicate and mysterious. One of the most feminine Pour Homme's i've come a cross, but that just makes it even more interesting, daring and attractive. For some weird reason, this hypermodern scent matches the nobile 1700-theme from the advertisement very well. So interesting combination of aesthetics all the way through.

Anyone who has ever owned romeo gigli uomo, it's a classic men's frag, perhaps discontinued now. This one smell a lot like it, except romeo gigli notes is little less fresh. V&R is beautiful inside out, very subtle and easy going. I'm sure, like any other high end brand this contemporary collection will continue its legacy.

The opening is a cacophony for 30-60 minutes until the drydown becomes a smoky, regal spicyness. The nutmeg comes out to play and dances with wisps of twilight incense. The dance is a slow, meditative one. And as the fine trail dissipates into the still air, you are left pondering the great mysteries of the universe.

If Antidote was a person he would be like: A kind-hearted and generous but very mysterious (at the same time) renaissance gentleman leaving in a mansion. He spends most of his time in his liberary reading books and does not care about what happens around too much. The scent is one of my all time favourates.

Finally i came across a niche brand and i discovered a really similar perfumes with higher intensity and louder , but price is much higher , it has been my favorite , but i feel glad to find the new gem ; I suggest whoever like Antidote to try a perfume from Cupid , its number 4 from the series , cheers

I wish they'd make a version of this for women...because this stuff is awesome. It's very masculine, and very clean, with something deep and intoxicating throughout. And the base is sort of sweet and soft and PERFECT for a warm neck begging to be nuzzled. Or perhaps bitten. UGH, I just love it.

I found a tester of it online .its really well blended fragrance.at first its fresh.somthing like bubblegum like smell .then it gets warmer .its modern while its classic at deep . I love it .I can see why it has been discontinued. But its atomizer come off loosely.is it natural.or its impared.

I have to say, I discovered this fragrance after it became discontinued and it makes me sad because it really is a knockout. It's sweet and spicy and all around deliciously intoxicating. The only negative thing I have to say about it is that, because of its rarity, it's waaaaay expensive.

Straight class in a bottle. But it's a kind of Jekyll & Hyde in the sense it's so mysterious yet familiar,Clean & dirty, Dark but yet still comforting. It's a very complexed well blended fragrance that has staying power, A true masterpiece by Viktor & Rolf. 9/10

If I could get this fragrance easily, at a decent price, this would most likely be my signature scent. I love this stuff, it was my signature scent , but now I have very less of this amazing juice! It is soooo gooooood. Is there anything similar to this ?

beautiful dry down of jasmine, sandalwood & vanilla with incense & patchouli for depth. Opening is curious but dry down is stunning & gentlemanly. Discontinued. Longevity above avg, proj avg. Highly versatile. Enjoyed my sample, recommend you get one too.

I love this one. Very classy, sweet, slightly powdery, and carries a definite masculine sophistication. I purchased a sampler bottle at an outlet mall, and am unable to find it anywhere else in a 3.4 other than online. Do they still produce this?

Very rich and complex. The scent is neither linear or bland; it remains quite interesting. The 1990's sure was a decade of great scents for men and women. Sadly, another discontinued gem :'-( Scent: 9 / 10 Projection: 8 / 10 Longevity: 8 / 10

My top 3 designer fragrance of all time! Nothing can compare to it, it is extremely unique, beautiful, every details is perfection. I am lucky to have bought it when it was launched, such a pity I did not buy more then. PERFECTION TOTALE.

This intriquing perfume by Viktor & Rolf is a warm, sweet scent pouring with myrrh ... it is intense with good longevity and a beautiful sillage ... it projects great and that makes it one of my favourite ... so kudos to Viktor & Rolf

I really want to wear while I pity to wear it , a sensational aroma with several stages , if it were possible it would buy two more pelomenos of about 125ml , discontinue a shame ... a niche in my humble opinion ! 10/10

I have to agree with many of the other reviewers.An amazingly complex fragrance from the top notes through the spectrum.I get lots of fougere,woods & spices.A recent discovery but I rate it very highly.

This is a good and spicy fragrance with a hint of the 80s powerhouse DNA, but at the same time more modern and classy for todays frag heads, i like it a lot, to bad it is so hard to get this days.

I second what Kasper Larsen says below: spicy and a bit heavier, but not overwhelmingly so because of the fresh herbal notes. I'd say it's classy and stylish. On my wishlist.

a love affair in a bottle, exquisite fragrance. very well made in a lovely balance of notes, but TOO EXPENSIVE 8/10 (would have been a nine if it weren't so pricy)

Today I bought a back up bottle.it has a nice floral masculin fougere scent.I feel kind of bubblegumy vibe at the opening.but moderate longevity and progection.

since this scent is very very "hard to find" as it has been discontinued - can i get suggestion some other frag that smells closest to this beautiful scent?

A real 90's vibe, but there is a certain like honey suckle scent that I just love. A real awesome scent, vv different than anything else.
