Sparkling Jo

I’ve worn perfume for over 60 years. I deliberately spent two years selling it just to come back up to speed in the modern market. This is one that I love because it is an all around beautiful daytime go anywhere scent. It stays close to the skin so you don’t have to worry about your fellow riders on the elevator, but anyone who comes in for a kiss hello will know exactly why you’ve picked it. All the notes come through, perfectly timed as she warms on your skin, but that champagne stays there throughout. My nose can’t detect the pear as much as I would like, but that’s not the perfume‘s fault. She holds up well for 6 to 8 hours, but I wouldn’t ask her to hang on if you’re sweating in the kitchen or fencing in some French château. I truly think she is a perfume. You could buy blind as a gift for anyone who is a feminine spring or summer perfume person. My only regret for this lovely perfume is the bottle they chose. It’s squatting. It’s inelegant. It has no style. You expect something this pretty to be in a tall, thin flute of a spray. Something that could caress her cheek or she could warm in her hand before she bends to gently missed the back of her thigh. This is a romantic scent. It needs a romantic bottle.

Well I'm a Jo so I kinda had to test this eventually and damn it, it is lovely. Is it a serious scent? Nah. Is it FUN? Yes. It is sparkly and bright, like sunshine on water, or a fizzy orange drink, or indeed champagne. Does it actually smell like champagne? Not *really?* I mean there might be some champagne out there, a rather sweet one, that smells similar. But that's fine. This smells like the FEELING of champagne. Bright, bubbly, effervescent. And it lasts. On me hours. No idea if other folks can smell it but I can and that's what matters. I was kind of hoping I wouldn't like it because I don't actually need another bottle of perfume but with that name and how lovely it is. Well.

The moment I experienced this perfume, I was instantly captivated. The top note of effervescent champagne creates an air of sophisticated celebration and I love how it stays till the very end. I'm surprised champagne is not listed among base notes here. Pear note unfolds beautifully in the middle and fades within coople hours. I would say these two notes are the most prominant and the rest are well blended and create nice composition all together. It's fresh, juicy and moderately sweet. Totally fb worthy. I put mine on my spring fragrances shelf. Love!

I have Moschino Toy 2 and I find this quite similar, though Sparkling Jo is a tad more aldehydic and overall a much nicer blend. I'd put this somewhere inbetween Toy 2 and Byredo Blanche in terms of similarities, and I think I will replace my Toy 2 bottle with this once I run out as this is really lovely and my favourite of the three. The pear and champagne/aldehydes are such a nice combo. It's slightly sweet and fresh (and sparkly!) but also a bit green from the woody notes. Bright and comforting. The longevity is great as well.

This is a brighter, more effervescent Another 13. Although this is beautiful, I don’t think I need both in my collection. Perhaps I will purchase a bottle once my Another 13 is empty. It would layer wonderfully with so many different scents! For those wondering if Sparkling Jo smells like ELDO’s Remarkable People, it doesn’t. The champagne note in RM is quite fleeting and dries down to a nondescript aftershave type scent, whereas SJ is bright and boozy and persists throughout the dry down.
