Sparkling Jo

I’ve worn perfume for over 60 years. I deliberately spent two years selling it just to come back up to speed in the modern market. This is one that I love because it is an all around beautiful daytime go anywhere scent. It stays close to the skin so you don’t have to worry about your fellow riders on the elevator, but anyone who comes in for a kiss hello will know exactly why you’ve picked it. All the notes come through, perfectly timed as she warms on your skin, but that champagne stays there throughout. My nose can’t detect the pear as much as I would like, but that’s not the perfume‘s fault. She holds up well for 6 to 8 hours, but I wouldn’t ask her to hang on if you’re sweating in the kitchen or fencing in some French château. I truly think she is a perfume. You could buy blind as a gift for anyone who is a feminine spring or summer perfume person. My only regret for this lovely perfume is the bottle they chose. It’s squatting. It’s inelegant. It has no style. You expect something this pretty to be in a tall, thin flute of a spray. Something that could caress her cheek or she could warm in her hand before she bends to gently missed the back of her thigh. This is a romantic scent. It needs a romantic bottle.

Well I'm a Jo so I kinda had to test this eventually and damn it, it is lovely. Is it a serious scent? Nah. Is it FUN? Yes. It is sparkly and bright, like sunshine on water, or a fizzy orange drink, or indeed champagne. Does it actually smell like champagne? Not *really?* I mean there might be some champagne out there, a rather sweet one, that smells similar. But that's fine. This smells like the FEELING of champagne. Bright, bubbly, effervescent. And it lasts. On me hours. No idea if other folks can smell it but I can and that's what matters. I was kind of hoping I wouldn't like it because I don't actually need another bottle of perfume but with that name and how lovely it is. Well.

The moment I experienced this perfume, I was instantly captivated. The top note of effervescent champagne creates an air of sophisticated celebration and I love how it stays till the very end. I'm surprised champagne is not listed among base notes here. Pear note unfolds beautifully in the middle and fades within coople hours. I would say these two notes are the most prominant and the rest are well blended and create nice composition all together. It's fresh, juicy and moderately sweet. Totally fb worthy. I put mine on my spring fragrances shelf. Love!

I have Moschino Toy 2 and I find this quite similar, though Sparkling Jo is a tad more aldehydic and overall a much nicer blend. I'd put this somewhere inbetween Toy 2 and Byredo Blanche in terms of similarities, and I think I will replace my Toy 2 bottle with this once I run out as this is really lovely and my favourite of the three. The pear and champagne/aldehydes are such a nice combo. It's slightly sweet and fresh (and sparkly!) but also a bit green from the woody notes. Bright and comforting. The longevity is great as well.

This is a brighter, more effervescent Another 13. Although this is beautiful, I don’t think I need both in my collection. Perhaps I will purchase a bottle once my Another 13 is empty. It would layer wonderfully with so many different scents! For those wondering if Sparkling Jo smells like ELDO’s Remarkable People, it doesn’t. The champagne note in RM is quite fleeting and dries down to a nondescript aftershave type scent, whereas SJ is bright and boozy and persists throughout the dry down.

This is pure joy in a bottle. The aldehydic champagne opening is intoxicating and fizzy. This dries down to a sophisticated pear with the aldehydes. It is more crisp than sweet. The smell reminds me of a happy buzz after a couple of brunch cocktails when all seems right with the world. Longevity could be better but two applications during the day was sufficient for me. It is spring, airy, effervescent, with enough aldehydes to give it bite. My go to scent this spring.

Gorgeous sparkling, citrusy, boozy aura. It smells like a classy woman drinking champagne in the sun. It comes off a little sharp at first but it settles beautifully effervescent. It becomes predominately fresh pear after a while, but still with a hint of the sparkly champagne. It disappears from my skin fairly quickly but it lasts quite a while on clothing. This is a very pleasant everyday option for warm weather.

Gorgeous perfume, amazingly fresh yet deliciously sweet. A realistic champagne scent with a very nice, musky base. The champagne pulls through to the end, pairing beautifully with the middle pear and ambrette accords. Its projection is decent, and its longevity very good for the scent profile. One of my all time favorites, I am on my second bottle and it will always have its special place in my wardrobe.

I had such high expectations for this fragrance, I was afraid of being let down. But I actually love it, the champagne is very realistic and sticks around a bit on the dry down. I am mostly left with a juicy, ripe pear. This is one that is not overly sweet, pretty true to the scent and taste of champagne. Beautiful fragrance that I am very happy to add to my collection.

Accidentally bought this one because it was on a huge discount. It’s really nice, i’m honestly not a fan of a pear nor ambroxan (i gave away jhag not a perfume) but this one hits different: i guess the mix of the notes and bright champagne in the beginning makes it a really pleasant scent, very festive, non offensive and gives positive vibes.

It’s so pretty. Absolutely top 3 from Vilhelm’s range. It’s delicious but light. Sparkling really is the perfect name for it. I get champagne but not in a “you smell like alcohol” way at all. It’s sweet but not sickly. Crisp with fizzy ginger and pear. It’s beautiful. Perfect for a spring wedding or a light everyday signature fragrance.

Love, love, love this for a special occasion. It's perfect for a birthday brunch or dinner, it's also the perfect NYE scent. It's a photorealistic champagne - it goes with anything celebratory! It's light refreshing, and it stays sparkling throughout the whole wear.

Perfect summer scent for daytime or evening events. Campagne and citrus notes make it smell like an expensive dinner in the South of France. However, it is more of a skin scent as projection is weak.

Smells exactly like champagne, heavy, decadent, absolutely love it. Probably not a safe blind buy, but perfect for celebratory occasions.

Sour champagne meets fresh citrus and herbal juniper before it meets sweet, juicy, powdery pears. The champagne note in this perfume is very realistic and you can really smell the bubbles and how they feel in your mouth. It is powdery in that perfect way that really encapsulate the pear, and together with the musk it gives off that shampoo-fresh vibe that pears often do. But that does not mean that it smells cheap, on the contrary! It feels exclusive and sophisticated, like an occasion where you have several reasons to drink actual champagne. Though juniper really becomes the star of the show in the drydown. The champagne really lifts that herbal note, but I am a big fan of juniper to begin with. I am disappointed that I never get to grasp the ginger in this one, and I never get so far into the drydown that I get to the woody base. The perfume disappears from my skin way too quickly, and the only thing I am left with after two hours of wear is a faint hint of a fruity musk/ambrette with a sliiiiiight pear vibe to it. The opening is incredible, but the longevity is a joke.

As a reviewer below me as put forward, this fragrance while being nice and inoffensive, smells ultimately like a vert expensive shampoo and/or lotion one would use for this skin after having a shower, with the namesake alcoholic note of Champagne being the wildcard in this fragrance, the booziness startled me upon first smell but its alright. leans feminine but is more or less unisex, good for virtually all seasons but weirdly enough I cant see this being a good autumn fragrance for a reason I cant really explain why. for its price point I personally believe its overpriced, but to each their own, in terms of silage and projection they're both moderate but it leans every so slightly to being a skin scent, which becomes more apparent the longer into the dry down you go, which further enforces my thought process as to why this reminds me of an expensive shampoo/lotion. Final verdict for me is a 6/10, I'd appreciate smelling it on a lady more than I would smelling it on my self, but nonetheless its still pleasant.

Gorgeous, uplifting, feminine fruity floral scent, it really smells like a celebration! It has beautiful fragile quality to it, it is not heavy or animalic in any way. The main notes are truly the champagne, Pear and bergamot. Perfect for day wear in spring and summer, it is so elegant and not at all like old lady, lovely to wear to the office or a walk outdoors. Not a dupe, but it reminds me to Dolce Amalfi more than anything (but with Dolce Amalfi being hevier/richer and different composition obviously). It is not crazy loud, but for such pretty fragile scent it lasts incredibly well, especially on clothes, it is still there the next car with its' beautiful composition. It might not be your usual pick (I would normally not have pickef it based on the notes and lighter performance), but please try it and you might be as enchanted as I was 😊

I don't perceive it as a signature scent, but at the same time, it’s a very interesting and kitschy fragrance. I associate it with autumn. More bitter than sweet. It reminds me a bit of the smell of a glossy magazine. There’s a slight leathery direction. I can see the similarity to champagne, but the scent itself is not alcoholic. It feels like this aroma is bubbling, that's true. Either like the bubbles in a brut champagne, furmint, or like a freshly painted or freshly lacquered surface. This might come from the citrusy ginger. At the same time, it also gives the impression of how a brand-new computer might smell. 55% feminine, 45% masculine. In the heart notes, a slightly sweet pear scent emerges—like a bubble blown from liquid hand soap with a delicious fragrance. Light and airy.

"J'aimerais boire un v-... un, un verre... de boisson... de champagne !" This is more spring and summer, but smells like champagne so it can be safely worn to parties in wintertime. Costs too much for how weak it is. I'll still have it in my top 10 to keep because I love the smell of champagne and this one is good. Also the bottle is the most inconvenient shape. Update: A friend of mine smelled it immediately on me though, when I visited over New Year. And he said he still smelled it when changing the sheets I had slept on.

I got this as a sample and my first thought was: basic, familiar and pleasant. Upon first spray it’s light, a little fruity, mild champagne and slightly green. Something about this smell is so familiar. I want to say it reminds me of a less green Chloe Naturelle but I don’t have it with me to compare. I feel like the scent sticks close to the skin and is fleeting.

The first spray starts with a fizzy champagne note along a soapy and fruity pear note. The perfume has some spiciness in the back. Huge compliments to the perfumer behind this stunning, bright, and boozy musk. It’s an incredibly elegant, subtly fruity skin scent that is completely charming. While its longevity leaves something to be desired, it’s so beautiful that I really don't mind reapplying it every few hours. She's a quiet lady, but oh so fun!

More like perry than champagne but it’s very delicate! This is a low projection low sillage juice that is very high quality. It’s still there 12 hours later at 50% it’s not for me as I don’t love skin scents but really appreciate this is a high quality well blended fragrance. I really wish this was slightly louder!

There are two Champagne perfumes worth attention. At least the ones I am familiar with. It's Dom Rosa and Sparkling Jo. Between them, Dom Rosa is my pick. Sparkling Jo is much lighter and the lasting power is quite abysmal. The drydown is very aldehydic, the Champagne is lost, no remains.

I absolutely love the fragrance, it’s beautiful, feminine, a bit flirty, clean, light and airy. The longevity is absolutely terrible. It’s not even 30 minutes. If this had projection and longevity it could be a signature scent.

Fizzy ginger, citrus sweet and an amber touch. Smells incredibly unique and luxurious. Lasted hours on me Edit: day after on my clothes it smelt a lot like mojave ghost

Plenty of champagne pizazz to start but runs out of fuel fast. You wouldn't get through one dance. If it had any longevity at all, this would rate a 'love' from me.

The champagne note is fun. It's nice, but not worth it for the price vs projection. It's an intimate skin scent on me in an hour at the most.

Five minutes of spilt champagne, followed by thirty minutes of pear detangling spray. And not a moment more. Remember L’Oreal kid’s “Pear Tangle Tamer?” It came in a lime-green bottle shaped like a long-snouted fish. (Automatically outing myself as a millennial here). Sparkling Jo southpaw’d me with one hell of a nostalgia kick not two spritzes in. One minute felt like I was at a sloppy bachelorette, sequins splashed with fizzy Moscato, and the next I was seven years old, picking through a snarl in my childhood bathroom. Weird bit olfactory of whiplash, but not an unpleasant trip. Pity it doesn’t last any more than an hour. Mental Snapshot: A sparkling pear sprite. A playful pixie. Part Tinkerbelle, part Daisy Buchanan. Golden ringlets, dragonfly wings. The champagne sister to the absinthe fairy, and every bit as sweet as she is fickle. tl;dr: imaginary pear 🧚🍐

So this one started off promising for me — soft freshness with a fizzy, champagne-fruit lift — but it very quickly became a bit too much. The fruit feels heavy rather than sparkling, and as it develops the musk is a bit overbearing. Finally, it all turns sharp and slightly acrid on my skin (a known chemistry thing with my skin and certain dark or synthetic wood base note combos) Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad fragrance at all - I can honestly see this being gorgeous on the right person (in fact, it actually worked beautifully on my daughter), but it just didn't fit so well for me. Pretty, yes, but NOT a safe blind buy — skin chemistry makes all the difference here!

This is what I associate with expensive shampoo. I get citrus, basil, and soap. I see someone being in a nice hotel room, wearing a white bathrobe freshly out from the shower, and popping open a bottle of champagne. I think almost anyone can wear this, it’s not very challenging or offensive. I’ll enjoy the sample every once in a while, but not at all full bottle worthy especially for the price.

A gingerbread spiced champagne with a strange woody opening. Strange ambroxan dry down. More a candle scent IMO. Not a real perfume. The gingerbread vibe for me is very strong. I'm sensitive to ginger and not the biggest fan of it in perfumes. But this smells like a holiday gathering with gingerbread and champagne. That's about it. A bit fleeting as well. Not up to my standards for longevity.

So glad I only purchased the 20ml travel size. It's pleasant, sweet, a little fizzy, fresh and tart, but mostly I smell musk, a musk that is nearing the territory of that annoying Erba Pura musk. Not getting very much pear. Very light wearing, and overall just not worth the price. I have tried enough fragrances from this house to conclude that it is just not for me and not worth any coins.

Lovely, sparkly opening with bergamot ambroxan and some sweetness - would be very lovely for the summer if it stayed like this but, alas, the sparkliness dies down after the first hour or so leaving behind a flat dihydromyrcinol heavy base that I don’t care for. If you are looking for minimalistic summer fresh sparkle better veer towards Hermes Un Jardin series.

This is very nice. Quite simple but definitely an easy reach. The pear is detectable and it's encapsulated in soapy musks. Definitely up my alley. If you like Ex Nihilo 352, Another 13, JHAG Pear, and fruity musks, you'll enjoy this! Edit: the more I played with it the more I started to not like it, lol it's just ok now

On me, this is a spicy woody, masculine, leaning fragrance with a musky base, a little tiny pop of champagne, at the very beginning and it’s very fleeting. Just leans so masculine and spicy. I might like to smell this on a man, but I wouldn’t wear this personally.

Sparkling, fresh, and a bit fruity in the opening. Low projection and poor longevity on my skin. Dries down to the musky/woody Vilhelm base that I just don't get on well with. Opening is lovely, but that's not enough to get me to buy a bottle.

What Champagne Toast wants to be when it grows up. If you like fruity champagne fragrances this will probably be a good one for you. I'm just not crazy about that scent profile.

Smells like champagne or pear sake! Light, refreshing, slightly cool. Very photorealistic. Too alcoholic for me. Not a bad scent but I don't want to smell like booze. 5/10

I really love this one and the story behind it but I have to take off points because it doesn't long at all which is a shame. Skin test: Scent 8/10, performance 2.5/10

A spark of champagne and soapy fruity musky skin for an hour. Too delicate for me but can be great for silent musk lovers ones who don't like fragrances at all.

Honestly such an underrated scent if you're looking for a good pear note. I do get a mimosa scent in the beginning but it dries down somewhat soapy

I get the champagne in the opening and also the pear and ginger, but it's too woody for me. The oak and cedar are just way too prominent.

I wish it didn't have ambroxan & ambergris. That stuff gives nauseates me & gives me headache. Sadly not for me.

Pretty straightforward - if you are looking for a photorealistic, bright, bubbly, fizzy champagne fragrance, you will LOVE this. This is the definitely the most photorealistic champagne perfume I've ever smelt - and it's an expensive bottle too! The bergamot in the opening adds a sparkle to this perfume that really makes it shine. The pear and ginger are definitely present, but not overwhelming at all. In general, this is well balanced and blended, much like a real bottle of Moet. I personally don't enjoy this fragrance profile though. The idea of walking around smelling like alcohol just isn't it for me lol. But if that is something you enjoy, then I think this is a pretty safe blind buy. The projection is actually pretty subdued all things considered. Longevity is pretty short, only a couple hours tops. I'm finding that there is definitely a DNA carried throughout all Vilhem fragrances. I can't quite pin what it is, but Sparkling Jo has it as well. This is definitely nice for all seasons, particularly winter and summer. I'll pass on a full bottle though. Cheers!! Rating: 4/10

the opening is a burst of bright fruity champagne. definitely cirtus forward on my skin at first. it has a fresh green/spicy feel so i can definitely sense the juniper and ginger while the perfume settles. i was hoping for something that would be a little more reminiscent of another age- was definitely hoping for something a little more decedent and mysterious as the name evokes. but this kind of reads mimosas at brunch to me.. truthfully citrus fragrances aren’t my jam. pass unfortunately

For champagne or sparkling wine- I’ll stick to Dom Rosa and Pink Me Up. There is a weird, headache-inducing synthetic musk that’s reminiscent of few other popular fragrances (I will keep those names out of my review and focus on why we are here). That note eliminated and I would probably adore this. This is certainly likeable, and not a bad fragrance by any means. It just doesn’t “do” much for me.
