Rice Makgeolli

WoW! It's the first thing I thought when I smelled this perfume for the first time. One of the most realistic rice-scented perfumes I have tried so far. A rice note that blends with almond notes, soft and slightly bitter, and with milky notes that give the fragrance a creamy touch. A very talc-like and pleasant perfume that, despite its mild scent, is very consistent. It is a friendly perfume, with a close-to-skin projection, that won't bother anyone, yet lasts for hours and hours, even days on clothes. That's where it demonstrates its 30% concentration in essences. For this reason, it is a perfect perfume for going to work or daytime events, as to me it exudes elegance and class, and is suited for the spring and autumn seasons. It is a very unique and different scent, so I would recommend trying it before buying it, because although, from my subjective point of view, the fragrance is a 10 (powdery perfumes are my favorite), there may be people who find it a bit strange. This is such a nice scent profile, I absolutely love it! It’s not going to be for everyone but for me and my girlfriend we absolutely love it!! Men don’t be scared to try something like this, it’s so nice!! To make things simple on how it smells on my skin I get this Creamy, Powdery, sweet, a little warm, kinda nutty with a beautiful clean musky touch at least on my skin and on my girlfriend she gets the same but ALOT more Sweeter more gourmand on her skin and the rice shines more. So crazy how so many different scent profiles her and I test out smell different. As a Man I will be wearing this a lot and I know my girl will too. You can easily layer with this but also wear it on its own

Ok I’m in LOVE. This is milky creamy laconic perfection! I love a rice scent, but this is like a dessert rice, maybe like rice pudding? But it’s inspired by a Korean rice drink made of wine.. I’ve not had that drink but this fragrance feels cozy, yummy and delightful.

I can’t believe it says almond in here. This smells like the most realistic hazelnut + bitter rum/cognac. Very nutty scent. Beautiful gourmand... I love it!

Received a sample along with a recent purchase, and was pleasantly surprised. After spraying on paper it mostly just smelled like a realistic cinnamon, but after spraying on skin the rice notes came out much more clearly. It has a sort of milkiness to it which I believe comes from the almonds, although it's hard to place. Very slight booziness in the dry drown, but honestly could just be my nose. All in all very nice fragrance, decent performance (sprayed on hand and can still smell ~4hrs later), would recommend for a solid gourmand scent.

Anyone who has had rice pudding or chai before will immediately make that connection when they smell this. Nutmeg, cinnamon, sultana raisins and evaporated milk come through clearly. It's creamy with a very gentle touch of spice, not cloyingly sweet or your typical gourmand. But once the novelty wears off, would I really want to smell like this? I’m not entirely sure. Still, it’s a wonderful creation.

You definitely get the rice and almond, but the yogurt note gives an interesting sourness or like plastic-sharpness that I sometimes get with notes like coconut. Not sure what I think. Wanted to love it based on the notes. Definitely not blind but safe. I do not get any of the spices which is unfortunate, but I seem to be in the minority there.

I like this, but won’t get a full bottle. It’s a strong, doughy, comforting, musky ambrette, with a faint hint of cooked rice. It’s just not unique to me - too similar to other fragrances I have in my collection.

This is definitely sweeter than what you are lead to believe with it being a rice forward scent. I love a sweet gourmand but if you already have classic sweet vanillas like Escapade Gourmand then this may seem redundant. The only different I would make to distinguish between this and some other more vanilla forward gourmands is that this is a denser and more syrupy sweet as opposed to a fluffy and airy sweetness. It’s giving more maple or caramel so definitely a cooler weather scent. I’m layering a lighter more starchy musk over mine to bring in the rice element that I’m missing from it. I just have a 10ml devant of this and that may be as much as I need.

Very, very, very powdery and almond-y. The rice comes off more as a doughy note - sticky and white. My sample is sitting across the room from me and the wafts just smell like baby powder. Up close, you get a bit more of the glutinous note but from afar, not so much.

Much sweeter than I anticipated. I would have assumed theres some kind of boozey rum note. Reminds me of Douceur Brulee unfortunately.

I get a lot of burnt sugar which isn't listed. It's the same burnt sugar that deterred me from Escapade Gourmande.

I’ve sampled at least 15 to 20 different rice perfumes now and Rice Makgeolli is probably my least favorite (and the most nutty & sweet) of them all. So maybe it is good if you’re into denser gourmands, but I am not. Even though I do usually like almond notes in moderation, this is both too nutty and too sweet for my taste. I don’t get much rice at all from this— it’s more like 90% nuts and 10% rice to my nose, so I think the name is a bit misleading. In my opinion, the best rice prominent perfumes that are worth sampling are: — Sogni by Meo Fusciuni (Japanese green tea, woody notes, rice, and light incense) — White Rice by d’Annam (pure starchy rice) — Naked Dance by Oddity (unique clay notes & starchy rice) — L’Eau Papier by Diptyque (rice is not listed but it’s very ricey/starchy) — Nuit Tatami by Kenzo (soft, sweet rice with straw-like notes too) — Soft by Poesie (creamy, pure white rice) — Nearly Noon by DefineMe (cardamom-heavy rice pudding).

It's soooo sweet, too sweet and cloying for me, personally don't get rice at all from this, even in the dry down. To me it smells like a really strong milky caramel like a dulce de leche type of thing, with something just a little powdery and faintly sour added in there too (probably because of the supposed yogurt note). If you smelled it and didn't know the name of the fragrance or the claimed notes, you would never know it's supposed to be inspired by makgeolli. Very different from D'Annam white rice, white rice is MUCH less sweet and caramel-ly. White rice is more like a soft powdery skin scent, rice makgeolli is more like a very sweet milky caramelly gourmand.

Wanted to like this so bad. Smells like the inside of Foxwoods. 😭

I thought I was getting a rice fragrance but turns out it’s maple syrup or like a rich brown sugar syrup fragrance. Rice is nowhere to be found, just syrupy sweet nutty gourmand with something sharp and artificial in the background. Reminds me of some coconut fragrances where the coconut is super sharp and fake smelling.

I’ve never drank the namesake drink this fragrance was designed after, however, what I perceive is a delicious, rich, lactonic, slightly fermented, sugared rice drink. Maybe a fancy unfiltered sake cocktail at a cozy izakaya. Or horchata mixed with brown sugar & kaffir? I don’t know how to describe this without referencing various global beverages. I will try to simplify Sweet, caramelized sugar, lactonic, rice steam, starch, almond, a whisper of fermentation, vanilla musk. This is a really lovely, slightly unexpected gourmand with moderate projection & longevity. Extra points for beautiful packaging & presentation. I’ll have to try the beverage eventually.

This needs a lot more subtlety to have me enjoying it as a rice-wine inspired kind of fragrance. I definitely get the creamy, starchy rice aroma but it's overshadowed by what I can only describe as burnt sugar...maybe toffee...basically caramalized sugars like what you'd see on top of a creme brulee. Perhaps it dries down to something a bit more delicate but I didn't see that overbearing sweetness going away. I'm not a fan of gourmands though so this just isn't for me.

Smells really yummy, like rice pudding. It’s nice for what it is but not wearable for me personally because I don’t enjoy smelling like food and the almond note in here comes off smelling like play dough to me which I hate but if you enjoy foody gourmands and rice notes then I suggest checking it out.

This reminds me exactly of these honey almond protein bars i eat. It has the same granulated almond flour scent. It’s so similar it’s like i can taste it. It’s not unpleasant and a lot sweeter than i expected but it’s very foody. I wouldn’t wanna smell like this personally.

Non starchy sparkly rice powder, sweet sugary milk, marzipan, almond syrup. Very comforting. I didn’t perceive anything sour on me at all. At first it felt like a milky frothy sweet foam, then it turned into an almond milk rice cake from a cute Ghibli style eatery. Edible.

Toasted gourmand notes, rice, hazelnut, chocolate, coconut, whisky, oatmeal, vanilla brûlée. I getsandalwood as the major heart/base note. Reminds me of Baraonda by Nasomatto. Very nice and safe scent.

To my nose, similar to D’annam’s White Rice. But VE’s sweetness has a maple aspect to it, which others are describing as carmelized or burnt sugar. You definitely don’t need both.

yummy sweet. sexier than other rice perfumes which are more edible.
