Let It Rock

blind buy for me also. i wear boudoir and thought i'd give another westwood fragrance a go, based on the notes on here. when i took it out the box, it had the familiar whiff of L'Agent. tried it yesterday (it is stronger, darker and sweeter...much sweeter..than L'Agent) and the beginning it's amazing...lovely rich patch with a gorgeous floral opening and jasmine middle with creamy amber. i was outside hanging out the washing and got massive lovely wafts of it as the wind changed direction. enjoyed it very much. but it was the dry down later in the day that bothered me...once the flowers had faded, it was very sickly sweet on my skin. not sure what i was getting, other than simple cloying (synthetic vanilla?) sweetness. it isn't love at first whiff (like my other perfumes), but will have to give it a few more tries. it is something special, despite the sweetness. good sillage and 6+ hours longevity on me. EDIT: it has grown on me and i really quite like it now! i might go so far as to say it is lovely and what was sickly sweet has become a new sweet friend. i was standing in the queue in the supermarket and said to the cashier (who was pulling faces like she had a strange whiff up her nose) "i know, i can smell patchouli too" and i was accusing the man in front, with my eyes...erm...it was me! haha. but i'm not averse these days to smelling like an 80's goth (that's my olfactory memory of Patch btw).

When I saw the name Coty on the back of the box I thought "Oh no, what have I got here" but I am so surprised both at the scent and the longevity!!! I love this perfume - I love the way it opens with the freesia and the bergamot and then calms down to a soft, warm enveloping sweet scent! It never becomes too woody on me rather more sweetly floral and gentle as it gradually dries down. The patchouli and amber put me in mind of some of those late 80's early 90's 'big' scents and if released back then I think this would have run riot over those big names! I almost detect a powdery rose in the dry down - but it's not in the notes so I suppose that is just my nose/skin chemistry! The 80's/90's vibe continues into the longevity - remember the days when you woke up with your perfume (and your hair) still intact LOL - well this is what happens here! Silage is amazing - a real stink bomb to start off with so I don't know how well this would travel in a cramped tube or train early morning - I think to that end it is better as an evening fragrance and most certainly one for the chilly and cold evenings as well .... !!! Enveloping, warming and charming - I do suggest a test of this if you are not so into big scents For me this is a winter charmer.

I’ve had a bottle of Let it Rock (with about 5ml remaining) languishing in my collection for at least 10 years. I wore it a lot when I first got it. Today I’m housebound following surgery, so I thought use it up to free up space, & get the bottle out of the way.. This is a clean patchouli, & I also smelled liquorice or anise today - which is what brought me here to look at the notes! I also pick up a sort of continental posh biscuit vibe, but it is not gourmand or sugary. My son came home & hugged me & said “you smell so good” I think this is a lovely smooth effortless perfume, beautifully done & smells great from top to bottom. I really had forgotten just how good this one is., & now I m in love all over again. This is a real gem imho, & I’m sad it’s discintinued. It’s made me realise that I neglect my older bottles, constantly moving on to the next new (but not necessarily better) thing ! After all these years (to me) that’s the sign of a really good perfume.... and now I’m seriously thinking I need another bottle. It’s a funny old game, this perfume lark...sigh :)

I sought out three Price line stores in Melbourne and found it at the third try. It's on sale for 19 dollaroozies for a 5o mill bottle, and suited my preferred budget for fragrances. I'm addicted, rationale is there. Anyway as a teen I loved patchouli. But seemed to avoid it for thirty years or so, until now. I put it on last night on my wrists, and very much liked it. I couldn't tell at all that Let it Rock contained patchouli. It did remind me of another fragrance not mentioned on any review here, but as luck would not have it. I became side tracked and neglected to jot down the similar comparison. Sitting here late morning next day writing this review, I can still smell traces on my wrists. So kudo's for staying power. And yeah when I realised it was a coty. I thought there goes longevity. So presumptively wrong. I think this will surprisingly become a favourite of mine. I know implicitly who and what I am and what I like and don't. I think this is a well thought out and well balanced fragrance. Cheers T.

Something familiar hit me on first spray, like i knew it, i'd had it before. If anyone remembers how different CK Obsession was in the 90's, you may see a strong comparison. I recently bought a new bottle and was shocked at the difference. Anyway, Let it rock is sweeter and less claustrophobic. At first, there's a LOT of amber, but that dries down to a soft patchouli/spicy vanilla and it stays that way for a long time. After about 7 hours, it develops into a rather beautiful powdery gourmand. I didn't think i would love this as much as i do, especially since the summer is on its way. Who would enjoy this? Well, I wouldn't recommend it to the light and fluffy brigade, that's for sure. This girl has edge and there are no frilly dresses here. She wants to seduce you on her own terms and leave you wanting more. I have seen the 'old lady' insult being thrown at this one a few times now and all i can say is; well, you must have known some pretty rockin' grannies on your day, missy!

Smells so nice, lovely dark creamy patchouli mixes so well with the freesia and the jasmine. Sweet and a bit complex very lightly spiced in the background. Great for night use very sexy good for fall or winter. It is summer here so when i went out into the heat the spiciness nearly over powered the rest of the perfume. Smells very nice even though i am not a huge spicy perfume fan. I think if I had worn it in the winter it would have stayed that lovely sweet creamy woody smell, and less spicy. If i were to buy this, I would definitely wear this curing the fall or winter seasons, whenever I needed something to warm me up and make me feel sweet warm and sexy in my winter coat! x

This was a blind buy as were Boudoir and Naughty Alice. This is my favorite of the three. While it doesn't strike me as a "punk" or "rock-n-roll" scent, its a nice fragrance. The opening on me was floral fruity sweet followed by a wave a jasmine and patchouli with amber in the background. Its strong but not as strong as Boudoir. Not a skin scent on me. Its different from my other patchouli fruit florals (I think I'm sensing a pattern). Don't judge the scent by the bottle its in...a preconceived notion can be disappointing and then you may not be able to appreciate the juice for what it is. This is going to be in frequent rotation for me.

The opening of this smells very similar to L'agent with an added burst of bergamot. A minute or so later, patchouli moves aside and lets amber take the spotlight. Amber is definitely star of this show and she doesn't like to share the stage. I barely get anything but amber on my skin. Very rich powdery amber. Only lightly sweet. Really nice, but I LOVED the opening sooo much. I would have lived a happy life if it just stayed that way forever. On the plus side, I love the bottle (prettier in person and high quality) and I know I'll love the juice inside once it gets cold again here in the city.

So many of the reviews are so fitting! I would call this scent sweet floriental woody. It is lightly spicy, smooth, creamy, ambery, edgy and darkly, darkly sweet. The patchouli is fresh and the flowers are vibrant somehow and the amber gradually becomes even warmer and darkly sweeter still. All in all thoroughly enjoyable and delicious and a little unconventional. To me this fragrance represents a girl (and that girl can be 17 or 71, but always with a sparkle in her eye) with a strong individuality. A rock chick, a punk girl, a biker, adventurer or maybe an artist of sorts. :-)

Special thanks to Bettany87 for the lovely sample! When I first sniffed this, I thought "Whoa, very strong and I'm not so sure about it!" But after I applied to my skin, it became a very beautiful patchouli scent that instantly wowed me. As it dried, it just got better and better; kinda woodsy a little sweet. For those that are scared of patchouli, give this one a try; it's very well done in this frag. I just dabbed a little of this on my pulse points and got around half a days wear out of it with moderate sillage. This one is a definite must for patchouli lovers!

My first and only VW perfume. I want to try naughty Alice but it's so expensive. Anyway, I find this in boots years ago for £15 in the reduced section. Bargain! I admit I wasn't too sure about the smell at first but it grew on me and I really do like it. It's v musky woody smelling. I like musky fragrance and this is very strong. Don't think I'd repurchase it having seen what ppl want for it online. I'd only buy it again if it was literally £10-15 but it's obviously discontinued. So that won't happen. Yeah, it's a strange one. It's nice. Very intense

This is my latest blind buy, and an extremely successful one. It's like a modern version of 'Shalimar' with less incense and more patchouli. Luckily I am a patchouli lover so this will be in constant use. It's brightly citrussy at the beginning with many more notes in the heart than are listed which definately include a healthy dose of vanilla. It's rich, bright, glamourous, quirky and delicious - I must point out that it smells as good as any of the niche samples that I've smelled lately. It's quite similar to 'L'Air de Rien' (Miller Harris)

In a nutshell: a classy, ageless, affordable scent for patchouli lovers. Very nicely balanced and delivered patchouli - neither too raw nor too 'busy' - and overall a perfume I'd be happy to wear throughout the day, come rain or shine. I love the way it settles on the skin in such a warm, reassuring way and the amber really shines through. As with any perfume, of course, I feel that less is more and so one shouldn't go mad when spraying it on - the price is irrelevant, 'let it rock' is elegant and deserves a place among the classics.

Potent earthy patchouli/amber bomb! This was my indie sleaze perfume of 2007/2008. I can still envisage it even though it's a hazy distance memory. Backcombed hair, smudged eyeliner, black skinny jeans, fringed scarves, battered ballet flats -Noel Fielding and Amy Winehouse were my style icons- sticky pub floors, double house vodka and coke, local indie gigs, clouds of cigarette smoke, bad decisions, even badder hookups, hungover at work the next day and still smelling Let It Rock in my hair... what a time to be alive.

"Let it rock" is one of my blind buys. And a very successfull one I must add. I absolutely love this scent. It's warm, deep, rich, has a pleasant earthiness to it, and awakens a combination of comfort and edginess.The patchouly really stands out on my skin, in a punk/rebel-like way. It's dirty and dark, yet creamy and seductive.The scent lasts a really long time on me, and the sillage is good. No need to apply this perfume more than once a day. And the bottle is gorgeous! One of my all time favourites!

mi aspettavo qualcosa di più radicale da vivienne, a giudicare dal suo passato da iconoclasta e punkettona, invece quello che indosso oggi è un profumo molto discreto e assolutamente non provocatorio. l'inizio è costellato da una miscela di fresia e agrumi, sostenuta da sottotoni ambrati che pian piano prendono il sopravvento fino ad un fondo in cui spunta un patchouli gentile. molto buono, versatile, mi ricorda l'ambra di etro e quella di yves rocher.

I had low expectations because the bottle isn't brilliant and the name is a bit naff... But I really like it. The heavy patchouli and amber give it a licorice vibe and it reminds me of Lolita Lempicka without the sweetness. It's dark and mysterious but also playful. It's the middle of summer but it's surprisingly nice in the heat. Very impressed 8.5/10.

A gorgeous mix that could be worn by a rock chick or anyone really who likes a good fragrance with a bit of backbone. Liquorice comes through even though it's not mentioned, and i think that's what makes it stand out and gives a lovely interesting twist to this very modern trendy fragrance. One of my very favourites. I totally dig it.

A new experience for me: not sweet but fresh smelling biscuits. Never smelled something like this. Perfect for cold weather, in hot weather it does not work well. I have lot of fun of the crazy and unique bottle! The life has to be a bit kitschy! LOVE IT!! I agree, it can be used like unisex.

Wore this when I was 18...I wish she would bring it back..it was the weirdest smelling fragrance but so good...it has a warm cinnamon ginger kind of scent that I can explain I just know I was obsessed because of how unusual it was and it didn’t make me sick..bring it back

I love this scent! The strong note of patchouli followed up by gorgeous amber makes this the perfect winter or evening scent! Kind of reminds me of Amber by Prada without the smooth-ness.

does no one else agree this could have been a unisex fragrance I wear it all the time and my bloke mates always ask what it is and they like it, shame it's been discontinued :(

This scent is a bit aggressive and edgy, a perfume with character. But it develops very nicely and tones down its edginess. The bottle is beautiful as well as the juice.

I used to play darts a long time ago. It is a perfume of memories with Darling that I met around that time. I want to cherish it forever.

I love this perfume, it's very unusual and bright. I love to spray it on my wet hair and it's gourgeous!

This is the only 'heavy/dirty' patchouli scent i like. Initially i bought this fragrance because i loved the bottle and the packaging. When i first tried it, i was taken aback. Not usually what i like at all. It was too sharp and mature for me to appreciate at first. However i was patient and tried this scent again 6 months after purchasing- in autumn winter time. It was no longer disappointing. It is a brilliant fragrance, intense, classic, warm and spicy. Perfect for winter. I was out walking in freezing cold winds and rain - while wearing this, this is were this scent really begins to shine and belong. When you are feeling cold and alone, this scent will comfort you, with its dirty unashamed patchouli and glowing, burning amber. This fragrance takes me to a log cabin with thick snow outside and a warm log fire burning fiercely. It is warm, intense, dirty yet classy and unashamedly brash. But it works and i cant help but love it. P.s a lot of men seem to be offended by this fragrance, perhaps because its not the pretty flowery scent today's modern man is used too. However, it definitely leaves its mark and has a tendency to grow on people. It blends well with ones natural skin odor such as sweat. maybe that's why many dislike it, but also why many men & women grow to love it.

I have to be fair - after initially disliking this (see earlier review below) I tried it again and bought it! This was after two days of testing and trying Guerlain perfumes, including Shalimar, which this reminds me of, without being too much like it. I still get an overwhelming licorice smell at first. It's best to spray on/near clothing to get lasting power out of this initial note. I'm not sure if it is licorice, or if it's how my nose interprets patchouli. It's a bold fragrance, not sweet or trendy. I guess that's why it reminds me of Shalimar a bit. It's a bit tough and masculine, and I like that. I'm having issues with it lasting on my skin. I'm not sure if that blast of licorice is somehow deadening my nose and I can't smell anything soon after, or if it's fading quickly. Yesterday I had to apply it 3 times within 5 hours or so to get anything noticeable out of it. My partner, however, did say he could smell it on me, when I could smell nothing! Which makes me think my nose went dead temporarily. Is that possible?! I got it on sale - $26 for 50ml. I understand it's discontinued so this may be old stock and therefore have little lasting power. I wish it lasted better, but I'm going to persist with it, spray it on my clothes, and layer with other perfumes.

This has simple notes and doesn't change much throughout time yet it's quite well blended thus doesn't smell flat or thin. I get fleeting freesia in the opening, followed by lots of patchouli and amber that bring a deep, dark and earthy sweetness which is almost spicy (a little bit anisey then cinnamony in the dry down), and very little jasmine, if there is any at all. So if you love floral or gourmand you may skip this one; but if you prefer somewhat-unisex-but-still-feminine, delicious, warm woody scents you should definitely try it! It's the scent of strong, free sprit, would suit an independent bohemian more than an urban chick. She boos at fashion but everyone comments how stylish she is. It settles down really well, smells like clean skin under the sun, sexy<3 <3 <3. Two sprays are more than enough, last all day, good sillage. P.S. Those photos don't do it justice! The bottle is much much prettier actually. Edit: LIR does remind me of Cedre by Serge Lutens minus tuberose & deadly sugariness and feels less dressed up and ambitious. Organza Indecence fans might also get drawn to LIR, though the former is much more complex and feminine.

To me this isn't granny at all, old school late 80s, early 90s vibes- yes, most definitely. I have had a love/hate relationship with this scent because patchoulie for me is sometimes too dirty and offensive. I bought this in November 2013 and it is very autumny scent- it is very heavy and offensive on first spray, but give it a chance the drydown is beautiful it is warm and inviting the amber makes it very sweet smelling- I don't know how I have ever previously made it through the cold months without this beauty. This is not a summer scent I have noticed a few reviewers below have reviewed this in summer- this scent was not built for summer it is too cloying for summer and heat. I recommend trying it again now that the colder months are coming. I would describe this scent as warm spicy/balsamic/sweet, it is a lovely scent and it is unique smelling- it comforts me in the cold months. Very beautiful bottle- absolutely stunning- the photographs do it no justice really. Packaging=9/10 Scent=6.5/10 still a love/hate relationship sometimes for me Longevity=7.5/10 Radiates=7/10

Not particularly what I expected. I bought it judging by the comments I read on this site and, even though I cannot say that I dislike it, I can't state that it impressed me. Not feeling the edginess wasn't the low point, the major minus was actually not sensing the perfume... at all. At first, it emanates a sweet-smoky-minty smell, that is indeed nice. Gradually, it evaporates, maintaining the smoky note, that is strikingly similar to Lacroix's Absynthe. I definitely feel it as a winter perfume, as it unleashes its charm in very cold winter mornings, when applied before leaving the house; that is the only moment when i can shout a big "yes" for let it rock. Unfortunately, that moment fades away extremely quick, and during the day it loses all its power, merely leaving a timid hue of sweetish smoke.

A light, natural, fresh take on patchouli-ambers which hooked me straight from its bright aromatic start! There is a delightful clarity to this fragrance with an almost aniseed start. Fresh cut freesias take a back seat as a bone-dry bergamot bursts through with a fruity twist. I swear that I can sense the tiniest touch of jasmine & true sour rose but all these flowers sink deep into a beautiful, smooth & woodsy patchouli-amber base. Perfectly done! If you appreciate that gentle lemon cake batter note found in CKin2U you will enjoy the light buttery lemon-shortcake note found in LIR. Not strictly foodie, but creamy & warm without being overly sweet. LIR keeps on the lighter & drier side of oriental, which, for me, is heavenly. A wonderful woodsy scent with an elegant quirkiness. Sold!

A spicy, woodsy, patchouli mandarin beast that I bought on a whim years ago, wore a good handful of times (loving it every time) and then sold on a silly whim when I decided I had too many perfumes and needed to pay some bills. Silly me. Warm, old school oriental done in a fresh way and spices, oh the spices, it smells amazing. Threw the baby out with the bath water on this one for every time I stumble across a picture of the bottle somewhere, I wish I still had it in my collection! And now it's discontinued! My advice for what it's worth? Hang onto this, it's a treasure - its beauty is memorable and original. I can still remember the smell of it now. Definitely unisex.

It's my first time wearing this and to my nose the first spray smells like Lolita Lempicka. I get a lot of the licorice/anise smell. The drydown is similar to a much loved fragrance of mine, Guess Marciano. It smells a bit more complex to my nose but very similar. I like all of the Westwood scents I have tried so far :) ETA: Wearing this again on a cold winter day. This time it pulls different notes. I get a lot of the amber and some anise like scent. I prefer this in the winter. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be all that long lasting.

Goodness gracious how I wish I had a more mature nose and took the time to get to know fragrances that are very patchouli med and heavy. Honestly in my early twenties I really didn't like fragrances for myself that had any patchouli in them, it kills me now to say it lol. Because I believe when I was gifted this bottle for Christmas I was only 23 or 24 years old and at that time sadly I was into pretty girly very inoffensive fragrances. I wish I could have this bottle back and treat her right this time ❣️ lol

This is a really wonderful blend, very balanced equal dark and light - I sense the brightly mandarin on top, sweeter than bergamot, playfully sitting on a base of vibrant patchouli and amber. Very beautiful and surprisingly sophisticated compared to the name and the bottle. Its an oriental but a light oriental, equally suitable for day and night. Has a lovely brightness to it and a hint of cola. A real shame this is discontinued, this is a very fine blend and deserves to be brought back. A big favourite.

I am still very much undecided about this one. At first i kinda liked it and it reminded me even on Cartier ́s "Baiser du Dragon" but then it becomes so disturbing and unpleasnat in some way. I think that fresia scares me off. Something is just not right, after some time it becomes so fresh and i am not expecting that from this kind of fragrance. Lasts also not for very long time. Still i like it, but would buy it only for discounted price. This review was made about EDP, not EDT version.

Let It Rock, another FANTASTIC Vivienne Westwood fragrance. I was so happy when I got this in the mail. What a great scent for the days you are just not in the mood for a floral. This fragrance opens with licorice and vanilla and dries with some fairly predominant patchouli notes. When I wear this I feel comforted and I also feel delicious. If you are a patchouli lover this is a good choice. The licorice gives it a nice fresh kick. The lasting power is good, 4/5 and so is the silage 4/5.

I smelled it long ago and I liked Let it Rock because it's so unusual. I felt the touch of a walnut, as fine liqueur made from walnuts. Not sweet, just different. I'd never say this is all about freesia, bergamot and patchouli, I felt just the note of amber, from the ones that are listed. It's more for winter, I'd like to try again. Don't know whether it was discntinued, I haven't seen it since then.

Nice scent, good for young ladies. It reminds me slightly Victoria's secret Dream Angels Heavenly, but Let It Rock is much more better. Also it is a little similar with L'Occitane Eau d'Iparie, but patchouly note is more intensive in Eau d'Iparie. Let It Rock is light but volumable and a little oily. Nice for office or evening. Like it.

A sweet musky floral, very feminine and a touch powdery. To me the musk that is not mentioned is more prominent than the patchouli which is neither dirty or sharp. A little goes a long way. It starts nicely and the dry down is pleasant but in between it is a mite too sickly sweet for me.

Got an overwhelming burst of licorice when I tried this today, then it almost vanished to nothing and I had trouble smelling it on me at all! Not sure if I tried an old sample, or if this is how it is normally.

This is not a bad ambery scent but for this price I do think you can get better ambers on the niche scale. It doesn't have the intentisty / longevity that some of those bombs have.

Maybe it's the patchouli but I'm smelling musk stick lollies. That's actually what I love about it. What I don't love is the licoricey opening - thankfully that fades.

i love this thing! the composition is very interesting. it starts out aromatic and develops into a more sweet scent. very unusual indeed

Bought this on sale as a blind buy a while back. The cool-looking punk bottle attracted me to it. Was really disappointed that the scent didn't match. I've bought fragrances in the past which I didn't like at first but grew on me. Let It Rock just doesn't work for me whatsoever. All I get is a really strong, weird musky, 80's smell which gives me a headache straight up. It's very masculine too. More masculine than a lot of men's fragrances. I can see why it was discontinued. This is a scent suited for a very specific type of person. I'm not sure who - though I can imagine Vivienne Westwood wearing this herself. Sorry to say this one's heading for the trash. EDIT: I still have this almost full bottle if anyone wants it for swap. One I can't make work on me unfortunately. Update: This is confusing me. I hated it for years and nearly threw it in the trash... Now, I don't know. I'll give it another go in winter. Something about this disgusts me, yet intrigues me at the same time. Perhaps I've lost my mind. I love patchouli in all my other frags, but this one is different.

This is just wrong. Gave me a headache and even an upset stomach, I have never had such a strong reaction to a scent. It is somehow unbalanced, too strong and smokey. I bought it unsniffed and I am very disappointed, I am going to give my bottle away which seems to be difficult as none of my friends like it... Good news is, for those who like this fragrance, the lasting power is excellent. I don`t know if this frag is still around but to be honest I wouldnt be surprised to hear it has got discontinued because it is for a very peculiar taste and really not for everyone.

Really interesting. Purchased it unsniffed and received today. I do not like pachoulli, but in this one the smell is really lovely. The scent first was terrible - something medical, but then it changed - it's really alternative and aromatical scent. I can imagine myself dressed in black with red lipstick and dancing to some industrial music. LOVELY. And the bottle - really rocks. UPD: I still love the scent, but on me - it doesn't work. The pachoulli just kills every great scent on my skin.

The scent is absolutely patchouli! Very manly instead. Once you sprayed it on, it'll be there with you for the next 12 hours. Very nice longevity. But the one thing is, if only you love patchouli and smelling that manly. I love and I can stand to wear some other perfumes that I've bought to my boyfriend, like Dunhill Desire Blue, Versace Pour Homme etc. but not this one... It's manly than so many actual man perfumes. Do test it first if you're interest.
