Baltic Amber

I have tons of amber perfumes and keep coming back to this one. This one is so soft and plush, like wearing amber colored velvet. The choice of pairing amber with sandalwood and orchid makes it so wonderfully feminine, and the deep resins give it dimension. Most ambers in my collection are spicy, so this Voluspa scent fills a hole in my amber collection because of is soft plush feel. Like the other reviewer, I also get a lot of vanilla in it. I think of this as a summertime amber.

My favorite amber. Velvety, spicy, smooth. I smell a lot of vanilla mixed in it too. Resinous and beautiful. Never cloying like some other amber perfumes. I find it very soothing.

I somehow ended up wearing Voluspa room & body sprays as my signature scents for years. Now I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with them. I feel like Voluspa's quality is getting poorer. I've sent a few messages to their customer service over the years, none were complaints, just general inquiries about products, which they ignored and never replied to, despite me ordering thousands of dollars worth of their products for over a decade directly from them... oh well. I've since cut way back on my purchases from them. It was time. Anyway, Baltic Amber was my signature scent since I picked up a bottle at Anthropologie during the early 2010s. It was so rich, complex, warm, sexy. I couldn't figure out what I was smelling. I bathed myself in this fragrance - until one day when it vanished from existence. I contacted Voluspa (no response), I attempted to buy some overpriced bottles on ebay and each sale fell through or bait and switched me. When I wore the last of my remaining Baltic Amber, everyone would comment on it. People could smell me from 6 feet away, they stopped me in public spaces to ask what I was wearing. Their faces would light up, they'd tell me I smell delicious. Once someone mentioned I smelled like a gourmet Coco Puffs cereal, so I guess there was chocolate & lactonic notes in there. A couple years pass and suddenly, Baltic Amber came back in stock! I immediately ordered 6 bottles. I sprayed, and YES, the same scent! But wait, it seems.. kind of flat. It's missing something. It was reformulated. I'm guessing of course, because I never did get any answers from the company. But the Baltic Amber I have been wearing since 2016 or so is not the same as the one I fell in love with in the early '10s. There are no notes that could ever be considered chocolate-like in it anymore. It's a pretty straight forward vanilla scent now. The amber/sandalwood make it more exciting than plain vanilla, but the magic of the original is gone. I continued bathing myself in the rerelease of this scent for nearly 4 years. Maybe applying more will bring out some of the richness? Nope. 4 years or wearing it daily and I never received a single compliment on it. I finally got fed up, believing I must not smell nice so I started shopping for more grown-up perfumes. I never did find anything quite like the OG Baltic Amber, but I did find so many other better, richer scents. Ones that get complimented. I didn't wear this scent for almost a year. Then one day I couldn't decide what to wear so I grabbed Baltic Amber again. I sprayed, and... just not that into it anymore, I guess. It didn't seem special. It almost seemed like when Bath and Body Works has fancy special release perfumes. Better than a body spray. Not as nice as a real EDT or EDP. It's a pretty inexpensive scent, so if you're curious, try it! It isn't bad or strong or gross or too cheap smelling in any way. The newer, toned-down version probably does work much better as a room fragrance now. I can't really objectively tell as I've worn so much for so long, I can barely smell this stuff anymore. Maybe it layers well with other fragrances. I'm not too interested in trying to find out, I have other, more exciting smells to sniff!

Fairly decent warm vanilla, a little honey, almost buttery. Strange touch of graphite. Not pencil shavings, but the graphite lead on its own - metal/mineral. Not enough to turn me off the scent entirely, but I definitely prefer this as a household scent than a body perfume.

"Can we get a Baltic Amber perfume, Mom? Pleeeeaase?" "No, honey, we have Baltic Amber at home." The Baltic Amber at home: For real though, the notes listed are all present but overpowered by a strange, sharp synthetic note that I can't get over. It smells incredibly cheap in a bad way. I would never wear this as a perfume, and would only use this as a room spray to layer over an inescapable stench like a unit neighbor's failed cooking adventure. Bad.

This perfume has moderate sillage and longevity. As others have mentioned it is mix of amber and sandalwood. I did not dislike the scent but there was an off putting, slightly synthetic note that I found very strong. I tried wearing this scent several times but I kept smelling that strange note.
