Paper Passion

Paper Passion is a wonderfully subtle treat. The box it comes in is HEAVY grey cardboard. Inside the grey box you find a book wrapped in luxurious red fibrous paper, not crunchy or stiff, but soft and pleasing to the touch. The red paper encases the Book which serves as the primary container for the fragrance. The book itself is 6.5" x 4.5" x 1.5" with red edged pages. The first pages of the book tell a story of the fragrance and books and paper. Buried within the pages of the book in a perfectly sculpted cutout is the simple shaped bottle of Paper Passion. With a black cap and white label the concept is not lost on presentation! The scent of Paper Passion is an oddly subtle yet distinct scent. Reminiscent of scents like Molecule 02, Le Labo's Another 13, Molecule 01 and even "not a perfume" by Juliette has a gun. The smell is not colorful, not bright, not full bodied, not loud in any way. It's linear, flat, matte, quiet and airy. With eyes closed you can imagine the concept coming to life in your minds eye. A wonderful concept and creation. Geza has done it again!

Overall: 10/10 Here's Why: Received this yesterday and I am SO impressed. Glossy printed magazines, old dusty books and light milky musk. Lasts for hours and hours, just slightly sweet and inky. what a fabulous indulgent scent. I'm so fortunate to have found a bottle of this online! It's an un-explainable fragrance, must be experienced. Karl lagerfeld did wonders here! The packaging is A+ and the poems/excerpts are quirky and fun. If you can find it, it's worth every penny you will spend. Only complaint is the size. wish it was 100ML!!

I absolutely love this fragrance and right now if I could only choose one from my collection, this would be it. I don't know why but I feel different/special when I'm wearing Paper Passion

An interesting unusual scent. It's wort a try for lovers of woody and oudy fragrances. But better try it first before you decide to make a purchase.

There is no two paper passion prefume, only one!

It does smell like ink on matt paper, but it's really really subtle and light that I hardly smell it. Not having the atomizer, doesn't help to appreciate it all. I love it at first, but, now that I tried it on skin, I would reccomend... I would give it as a present to someone who doesn't wear perfumes. It's a really nice supersuper light woody scent.

I was expecting a very mono and dry sort of thing, and that's what it seemed to me the first time I wore it, but later on it evolved into something sweet and vibrant. Somehow, the scent doesn't remind an actual book page, but rather gives out and aura of newness and openness, and that's how it's art

If you're looking for the smell of old books, stay away. Get Diptyque's Eau Duelle or Maison Martin Margiela's Whispers in the Library instead. This is pure ink. Not like pen ink, not even like a brand new book on the shelf, with the ink buried in the smell of clean paper and plastic covering and cardboard; it's more like the flimsy plastic technicolor ink of a magazine rack. For the price, at least it's not faint: this projects. Your body is going to scream glossy tabloid to anyone near you. To me, it's a confusing thing to smell on a person. I love the smell of pen ink, but I don't think I would love it on me. This is a much more bitter, fresh-off-the-printer sort of ink than a pen. I work in publishing and I wouldn't even wear this as a gimmick. It's boring in its linearity while burning the nose and feeling like a scent that humans were fundamentally not meant to wear. I adore oakmoss, which is sometimes described as inky, but this is not remotely the same timbre of ink. Vetiver and oakmoss are inky in a way that is fresh and green and alive, while this is inky like consumerism and burnished plastic gloss. It reminds me of changing the cartridges in the colossal poster printer at work back when I worked in a marketing office. If you like ink, try this.

Edit: On my scent-tour today I came across Paper Passion again. I picked it up, thinking it wouldn't be such a bad idea to retry it. After all, what harm could mineral water do to to anybody? At worst, I would smell like water... Never would I imagine what followed next... The cute little glass flacon happened to be broken on its bottom. For some reason it was still left on the shelf, standing upside down. Unaware of that fact, I ended up washing my hands in "Paper Pashsion"!!! ... And the smell? Well, not really mineral water, but mineral water PLASTIC bottle... On second thought, this could also be the odour of a musty-dusty library... Lol :-)

Beautifully packed. A real masterpiece indeed... But, unfortunately, smells like pure mineral water :-( Personally, I find Geza Schoen's creations kind of Emperor's new clothes...

Let me first start this review with why I purchased this blind. I grew up in a library. My dad was in the military and my mom was working so when I was old enough to walk to the library that is where I would spend every day I could just flipping through and reading book after book. A library in the 80s is nothing like the library of today. We didn't have computers we had micro film. The bookshelves were metal and the wooden card catalog which is how you would find your book of choice was well worn and used. This is what we would call "google" nowadays. I spent so much time in the library or in used book stores. I loved the smell of paper and ink the well used wooden chairs that developed a patina over the years and the way the card catalog smelled with its wooden and metal tang. There is a mustiness to an old library that is extremely distinct. When I read that this perfume was supposed to smell like a library I bought it without hesitation. Well to me this does not smell anything like my beloved old library. This smells more like the magazine section at a modern-day Barnes and Noble. I have to totally agree with "walkdogg's" review this smells like Molecule 02 to me and very much like Juliette has a Gun Not a Perfume." Needless to say, I hate it. The presentation is as beautiful as "walkdogg" describes but that it all that this perfume has going for it for me. If you like those perfumes you may like this one. For me, it felt like it burned my nose hairs and I've been meaning to sell it but just haven't gotten around to it. I will be listing it on Ebay soon for anyone interested. Oh and another thing there is no atomizer. Its a full on splash bottle.

I bought this perfume believing it would have the lignin/vanillin scent that old books smell of. Old but majestic. I was VERY excited to smell like books :) I got the perfume in the mail and was delighted by the packaging... it came cut into the heart of a book, with poems about scent, books, etc. When I tried the perfume itself, though, I was initially disappointed that it did not smell like what I was expecting at ALL. Folks, if you're wanting the scent of a 100-year old yellowed book, don't come here. To me, it smells more like a fashion magazine, with the perfume insets inside. Maybe a little less caustic and inky. That being said, I do *like* the scent. It's light, but not too light - not like mineral water, like some users said. Not to me, at least. I'm not sure how else to describe the scent other than it smells like a glossy magazine in a bottle. I do wear the scent often, so I'm not just completely turned off by it. It just doesn't smell like old books, like I was originally hoping :)

New books! Now I love all books, from the forgotton dusty old ones in little rickety shops with massive basements to the new shiny books shops in Cambridge where I used to spend hours browsing random subjects, fascinated by every subject. This smells like the shiny new variety, with their strong inky smell and stiff new cover, perhaps a good touch of glossy magazine too. It literally smells exciting, if I have bought a book new I know its one I really want and will devour and cherish! This is a pretty simple linear perfume but it lasts rather well and is a lot stronger than some of Geza Schoen's other work for me. If you love the scent of old books though, try Vanille Insensee by Atelier Cologne, for me it has the perfect decaying book note and is a perfect counterpart.

To my nose Paper Passion is not the scent of books that have been sitting on your shelf at home, but the smell of a newly released paperback (with a glossy cover). Even though only "woody notes" are in the description I can smell the wood pulp scent of the pages, the whiff of ink and even some glue mixed in. I have to be in the right mood to wear this one as it does have some dryness that can take me a bit aback. Try before you buy, it does have the Iso E molecule in it and you might not be able to appreciate it if like myself sometimes you can not pick up on its scent.

Would you believe I found this at a thrift store?!! I am just starting to get into niche perfumes and this was a great buy!!! The packaging is lovely and the scent, divine.

It really smels like paper in old books or newspapres. Was very impressed when found the name of fragrance on 100% telling about the smell of it.

Canola galore! Sorry, all I get from this is a run of the mill corn oil smell with zero allusion to books or paper whatsoever.

I've tried it twice, couldn't smell anything at all. Looks like the rest is saying similar things, maybe this is a scam.
