Midnight Cowboy

Midnight Cowboy is a bit of a misnomer for what is a beautiful, not so rugged, quite feminine spicy floral. A deep, dewy rose predominates, sweetened by the cassis and tobacco and kissed with a tart bergamot. Clove is a note that can often tip a fragrance into spice cabinet territory to my nose, but here, along with the pepper, it just provides a bracing kick. Midnight Cowboy's touch of sweetness without being "jammy" sets this apart from similar compositions. It's well-balanced and simply gorgeous. West Third Brand is underrated in my opinion. It has collections in a few price points; the "everyday" line has some excellent cheaper scents, and the "fine fragrance" line more than justifies the higher price tag.

i was optimistic about midnight cowboy because it contains several notes that i know work really well on my skin, like clove, black pepper, and vetiver. when i first sprayed it, all i got was a strongly soapy artificial smell that was overbearingly cologne-y and way sweeter than expected. the blackcurrant is POTENT. i waited for over an hour for it to dry down into something more pleasant, and although i could start to pick out more of the spicy woody notes by then, it remained very artificially pungent and i had to scrub it off cause it was making me a little nauseous. unfortunately this has been the case with every WTB perfume i've sampled so they just might not be the brand for me.
