Freudian Wood

This perfume is composed of intriguing notes, playful and powdery at the same time, with a very sensual woody dry down. It is seductive in a refined and elegant way. The first note that strikes me is Mimosa but it is layered upon Cypress, which is rather surprising in a good way. Then milk rises, almost buttery milk, warm, combined with Cumin making it creamy and caressing, soft and gentle as skin on skin. Ambergris plays softly but quite strong and sandalwood is present but not loud. It is like a dream after which you wake up smiling: sensual, warm, encompassing but providing a joy of life feeling and making you feel good in your own skin. Longevity is very good and silage noticeable. I feel I could wear it all year around, morning to evening. Was expecting more woody, but it is really a more powdery mimosa-amber scent, supported by milk and sandalwood. It is an intimate, welcoming smell. The mimosa gives it soft and hazy, heliotrope/floral air. The amber makes it cozy and warm, as does the sandalwood, which also compliments the lactate with its own milkiness, yet brings a sturdy richness that grounds the otherwise overly capricious, aromatic composition. A hint of ambergris cuts through to remind you of an animal freshness, while the labdanum is almost unnoticeable, mostly serving to enhance the haziness and cohere the other tones into a singular presentation. As it dies down, the mimosa fades into a more subdued amber. I was expecting a more dry-musky-woody scent, but it is really a more powdery-mimosa-amber scent, supported by milk and sandalwood and ornamented with a pinch of cumin. One word: ambrosia. Silage is medium-low, sticking mostly to the body after the first 45 minutes. Longevity is medium, sticking around for around seven hours.

This is exceptional. An abstract composition, very well-blended; no one note stands out. I can only describe it as warm, light, milky, mildly spicy, mildly peppery, mildly woody. Pleasant and plush; no sharp edges. One of the very best and most original fragrances I’ve come across in recent years. Interestingly, Freudian Wood seems to have studied some of my favorite cult classics but improved upon their faults: It’s got the light peppery sandalwood of Gucci Rush, but with more longevity; it‘s got the sweaty scent of sex that Kingdom had, but is less x-rated; it‘s got that mild coconut-tropical vibe of Santal Massoïa, but with more staying power; and it shares with Déclaration that warm but airy quality, but again with more staying power. Projection-wise it stays close to the skin, but it stays all day, radiating a continual glow of sensual warmth. A pretty much perfect modern masculine/unisex scent with a bit of edge. 9 / 10

This is my absolute favourite of all time! Only sad thing is my 50ml bottle has been leaking and the nozzle does not work appropriately. Its uniqueness (earthiness) scent with creamy sandalwood and the dry down is also beautifully well blended on my skin.

This is a breathtaking scent, mostly suitable for men. Very sensual and titillating. A large portion of ambergris beautifully underlines the fresh tones of sandalwood, milk and mimosa. Lovely.

This is a wonderfully blended, bright sandalwood scent that I found almost moving in its beauty when I sprayed it on paper. Freudian Wood smells uplifting, like a new beginning full of possibility, exciting but comforting, like the first walk through the park in spring air with a new lover. Wonderful concept executed brilliantly, in a lovely bottle as well. On my skin, it's another story. While the opening is still lovely, in the dry down this sadly turns sour on me, reminding me of the smell of wall paint in a can in quite an unpleasant way. The longevity and sillage were excellent though, as this smell stuck with me for the rest of the evening. I will try again in warmer weather, but unfortunately I think this one is not for me. I'm desperately jealous of those who can pull this off, though, because I would love to be able to smell like that paper strip!
