Aqua Velva Musk

Gentlemen.....This right here is an excellent cheap gem that should be tried. Don't let the Musk label scare you. This stuff smells very masculine but not overpowering. this has a timeless classic old school barbershop vibe that can last to almost 6 hours. The cost is unbeatable. I bought this at Dollar General for $2.99! As I have been attempting to review most of the classic old school after shaves I was very surprised with this. I had last used the original Aqua Velva Ice Blue and it was honestly not one of my favorites. Would I buy this again? NO DOUBT. The Gents Score: 9/10 (a gentlemens classic). One of my favorite classic cheapies. I regularly find this for about $3 at Walmart which is a steal. Aqua Velva Musk shares similarities to another favorite of mine, English Leather. That is the dry down stage of English Leather and the main notes of Aqua Velva Musk are alike. Powdery mild suede type leather is the main thing they share. Aqua Velva Musk is warm and pleasant while remaining mild and close to the skin, not remotely offensive to anyone I'd imagine. If you were to really splash a lot on, which with the price you certainly could, you'd probably smell it all day with heavy projection. I don't really recommend bathing in it though regardless of how nice it smells. Curious to see how it developes in a glass bottle instead of the plastic.

Aqua Velva Musk smells, to me, like the men's version of the wonderful, but discontinued, Love's Lemony Musk. It's a slightly dirty musk with a touch of leather, made fresher by a crisp lemon accord and a generous dose of slightly sweet powder (sort of like the powdery notes in Avon's Wild Country).Tobacco is mentioned as a note, but I only get the tiniest hint of something that smells like pipe tobacco, primarily towards the drydown. This is strong, especially for an aftershave, and lasts a long time. Applied VERY lightly, it can be worn in the office, as it's not stinky like the horrible Brut Musk! This is a great musk for layering, too. Don't let the low price fool you-Aqua Velva Musk is excellent!

I like musk and I like barbershop fragrances, so it is no surprise that I love this fragrance. But, there are two things I have found surprising: 1) For an after shave, the longevity of this is amazing. It is an all-day scent that projects a few feet. 2) It gets more compliments than almost anything else I wear. Perhaps that is because it projects so well, but people seem to really like this fragrance for its warmth and rich smoothness -- even people who tend to hate barbershop fragrances.

This aftershave/cologne is as fifties as they come. Loud, brash, and unapologetic. The secret to using this as an aftershave is to SPARINGLY apply. If you don't, you'll smell like a man in his mid-fifties at the bar on Tuesday night, crying to the barhop about how the pass he fumbled in '84 cost him his (imaginary) scholarship. Essentially, Uncle Rico. However, lightly applied, you'll smell cleanly scrubbed and ready for the world. An essential for every man's bathroom cabinet

Loved this aftershave. Reminds me of memories of how my grandfather smelled. It wasn’t until recently that I stopped using it because everyone would look at me in the group and ask why I smelled like an old person. Love the musk. I swapped for the blue Aqua Velva. Seems a bit more modern and feels like it cools my face a little more when applying. Funny thing is someone told me that after the dry down it smelled like a black & mild cigarette. Can’t please everyone.

This is what my dad splashed on after a shower+shave. I remember smelling it in the steamed up bathroom when I would go in after him. I would splash it on after my bath just so I could scream like Macaulay Culkin in home alone. Aside from the nostalgia I still enjoy this fragrance. A warm masculine scent of woody musk with a clean and smooth powdery touch. Enjoy the smell while it lasts, because it does fade quickly. Perfect after a shower and right before bed.

I want to wear this on a regular basis, because I love the way this fragrance smells, but the last time I had a bottle of this I wound up setting it in my goodwill donation box because it causes my lungs to burn and itch. I don't know WHY I do this, but it's a damned shame. This is easily one of the best musk fragrances I've ever come across.

I finally got around to trying this and had one of those "Where have you been all my life?" moments. Nothing this cheap should smell this good. Being just a cologne, it's not very strong. If anyone can suggest a similar, longer performing EDT (aside from Jovan, which is very nice, but a bit more powdery than I'd like), I'm all ears.

If you’re only going to have one musk in your collection, make it this one. Honestly, this has a warmth and depth to it that belies its minuscule price tag. This isn’t high art, but it’s got soul. And really that’s all you need.

Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 068 ------------------------------------------------------- Purchased August 2017 I think this is more fun than the original Ice Blue. Lovely stuff, not much more to say.

This is my favorite Aqua Velva aftershave, just like Ice Blue it's very simple, musky, woody, and powdery. It also has really good performance.

The best musk scent, hands down. My favourite aftershave splash. Such a shame it's gone so soon after application.

Just a good budget musky aftershave. I got it for like 5$ at Walmart a while back and use it pretty regularly.

I have only used Aqua Velva Musk as an after shave, not a cologne. Perhaps I should. Aqua Velva Musk is one of two splash after shaved I use. The other being Stetson. Both give a similarish feel. Musk IMHO is very much a musky leathery scent while it lasts. Unlike Stetson, there is not a true "cologne" counterpart. Maybe a musk like Coty Musk or Jovan Musk, but I'm sure there are differences. Aqua Velva Musk shares no similarities to Aqua Velva Ice Blue. I personally do not like Ice Blue but I do like Musk.

An incredibly cheap drugstore gem that easily performs at five times its price. Go with the recommendation below and decant this juice to a spray bottle. This will give you greater control over the application. AV Musk projects and lasts like Jovan Musk, but with the citrus and florals turned down a bit and the animalic factor cranked up a notch: just short of skanky. AV Musk has a personality all its own. Worth a try by any fan of musk and/or old-school fragrances that buck current trends.

If a list is ever compiled of the best bargain fragrances (meaning quality relative to price), AV Musk will belong in the top 10. They may not love it, but no one who smells it on you will ever guess it's just a grocery store level aftershave. It smells way, way better than that.

Aqua Velva Musk to me always smelled like the laundry room when a load of clothes are drying. I like it.

It's a nice clean scent and very inexpensive. I actually prefer it to Jovan Musk.

This is OK to my nose. I occasionally enjoy smelling mens' aftershaves or "cheapies" too, always prowling for things to maybe get for my husband. This is a soft, yet masculine, powdery musk, almost slightly ambery. It's antiquated, but that doesn't personally bother me at all, though I think it deserves to be mentioned. It definitely doesn't even smell like my childhood (90s), it's just one of those fragrances that you can definitely tell is far, far from modern. I don't smell tobacco or lemon necessarily, but there is something fresh about the blend that keeps it from becoming too powdery.

Masculine musky-spicy "barbershop" scent, but don't fool yourself; this is an aftershave, not an EDC, and performance is weak. I guess you could carry around a decant and continue to refresh throughout the day, and for the low price, it's easy to do so generously.

Gentleman, I don't hate it... but please just spend the extra $7 and get the Jōvan Musk for Men. However, I might add that I use this product every day as I turned this into a spray bottle and I spray the bathroom after I take a shit.

I would spend a little more money and buy the Jovan Musk. In my opinion, Aqua Velva is on the same tier as AXE body spray while Jovan Musk is a better bang for buck overall.

Nice musky clean woody aftershave. Very masculine and a tad animalistic without being super macho like most men's fragrances from the 70's and 80's. Classic scent and timeless. Love it. Wife can't get enough of it. Perfect for Spring when mating season starts (wink, wink). NOTE: Although this is an aftershave, it performs like a cologne/EDT so I would not suggest you wear it with a freshie or aquatic because it may conflict rather badly. Wear this solo because it lasts for at least 4 hours. Or dab some on your goatee or sideburns and expect it too last the whole work day. If you decide to wear it with an EDT/EDP, make sure it's a musky or woody fragrance, particularly a sandalwood cologne and it will blend perfectly with Aqua Velva Musk.

Warm, subtle, classy and smooth are the best adjectives to describe AV Musk. It's basically a semi-sweet musk with a touch of orange, woodiness and powder. The musk is neither animalic nor laundry-musk clean. It's almost an undefinable smell, other than it being "lightly musky", and there's definite appeal to this kind of simplicity. This is a perfect scent for a guy who wants to smell good, but doesn't want to draw attention to himself with his cologne either. It's just a simple scent that smells clean and classy. I think the only reaction you'll get from people standing near you is, "Hm, that guy smells good." At only $3 for 100 ml. bottle, how can you not get a bottle of this?

Y’all I'm a weird chick. I’ll mess around with any fragrance, don’t care how much it costs or who/what it’s “supposed” to be for. Can I just say that this smells divine? I’m wearing it mixed 50:50 with some cheap vanilla body spray. And it’s SO good. Man... 🩷 (Throw a few swipes of some “hippie oil” into the mix and you’ve got yourself a vibe.) By itself though? I would not be mad at ALL if my man was wearing Aqua Velva Musk. To me, it’s a very sensual, well-made scent. Clean without being aquatic. Super nice. For three bucks, you can’t beat it. Also...for the record, this doesn’t smell like a grandpa to me. 🤔 Whatsoever. A gentleman? Absolutely. Geriatric though? Nahh...

When compared to other supermarket aftershaves, Aqua Velva Musk is a diamond in the rough. I must admit I'm a HUGE sucker for powdery notes in fragrances so I am absolutely biased. Aqua Velva Musk is a fantastic powdery yet masculine fragrance. As an aftershave it works perfectly. Hydrating, soothing, and relaxing on freshly shaved skin. On top of all of that, it's only $3 USD on Amazon. I can't recommend enough as an aftershave. My only complaint is the splash bottle has an ENORMOUS wide mouth and is unwieldy to use. First few times using this you're going to splash it everywhere.

I saw this sitting on a random shelf far from where it should have been at Walmart so I grabbed it for my son. I smelled it when I got home and it smells so similar to Keihls just less strong. I put some of this in a spray bottle and I spray it on my sweaters and bed at night. It’s so comforting and not at all overpowering or too manly, I don’t pick up any leather, it’s very musky and floral/light citrus to me. I would love to smell this on a man.

I have a vintage (1960s) bottle of cologne by Max Factor called Signature for Men that is basically Aqua Velva Musk in concentrated perfume form. The scent of this aftershave is basically a brisk citrus musk with a dry powder at the tail end. Smells cheap and functional but also incredibly old-school, which lends it charm. Nice enough but I still prefer Ice Sport and Ice Blue.

The smell of this aftershave genuinely wowed me. I get the lemon, musk, and powdery notes but I also detect jasmine, orange, sandalwood, warm spices, along with lavender and or some benzoin notes not listed. It has some peppery herbal green smell I quite enjoy. Such an array of notes all at once, truly an inexpensive piece of art everyone should have in their rotation.

More than just after-shave, this elixir can also be used as a general-purpose skin disinfectant. Its timeless scent of musk is mysterious and calming. Unlike the typical shopping mall fragrances that smell chemical and dispiriting, this musk pleasantly lifts your spirit.

Has a nice clean orange and musk scent. Definitely super masculine, but not "old man" either. I have a few aftershaves and I reach for this one a lot mainly since I like that citrus component. Can't go wrong for like $3.

For under $3 there isnt a musky cologne better! Nice initial blast of citrus followed by. a super clean animalic, powdery, woody, musk. I love this stuff my gf said I smell really clean I agree!

I like applying this to my bald head & face from after shaving. And I like using this to layer with my musky essential perfumed oils also.

A friend of mine wore this the other day (in Summer) and it was quite pleasant. Don't disregard the cheapies.
