Santal + Coffee

Smells green but mostly sweetly resinous. Both punchy and sophisticated. It's not piercing exactly but definitely is quite aromatic, ambient and, to my nose, vibrant. I don't get a big hit of any scent that I immediately associate with brown i.e. roasted coffee, but I don't think that that was the plan. There is a kind of greenish vegetal component but I can't say to what extent that's down to, say, the (green?) coffee, the davana, or the opoponax. These aren't all everyday notes or accords, plus the scent is probably too finely balanced to be super easy to analyse. Though it's reasonably strong, straight off the bat the spices and davana in the top complement the core and base but help to steer the whole composition away from being shapelessly dark. The resins lend the core a smoky, almost tar-like incense aspect that becomes more apparent over time but doesn't steal the show. The fragrance has a kind of enveloping presence in the lower end owing to the earthy, resinous and woody notes, not least the cedar. The sandalwood in the backbone brings some shaving cream class. Definitely an autumn/winter, mostly evening fragrance for me, and certainly up to formal events. It reminds me slightly of Jaïpur EDP, which for me is a good thing. Edit: my votes on the note pyramid aren't registering. It looks as if someone may have cast votes to the effect that the fragrance smells of ebony and only ebony; that would be just wildly inaccurate.

This is one of the best fragrances in the fragrance World! Very Italian, unique & luxuries. It's like a mix of Milano, Venezia & Firenze in a bottle and the bottle itself is Rome. Just love the way it smells and that I am the only one who probably owns this fragrance in a range of 300-500 miles maybe. :-)
