Je Reviens

@sensationseeker that is not the origin of its name (though it's a great tidbit from written history). the names of the perfumes that debuted in this collection form a poem. it is well-documented.

Glad to see this added to the database. The old versions are not the same as the modern bottles, but all are very good! Highly recommended classic of perfume history!

Je Reviens is named for Napoleon’s supposed words to his mistress Josephine, “Je reviens en trois jours; ne te lave pas.” (“I return in three days; don’t wash.”) With that kind of name, you’d expect stink, but Je Reviens is actually quite demure. Opens with violet, which is one of my aversions; but it’s soon joined by an angelic spring-floral chorus. Genuinely pretty. Dries down very rapidly to a “soapy” clean-linens scent.

My review is for the vintage parfum sampled from a recently opened Lalique flacon dated circa late 1940's to the mid 50's, upon application the aldehydes were understandably non existent drying down quickly to a powdery melange of orris, violette, French jasmine, May rose, lilac and daffodil/narcissus lasting surprisingly for several hours and becoming stronger and more concentrated adding notes of grey amber, vetyver, musk & oakmoss. This parfum would have been absolutely stunning when newly produced, still very powdery from the orris combined with the amber accord. Definitely swoon 'WORTH'y, I remember smelling this on a well dressed woman when dining out one night many years ago, so struck by it's beauty I inquired as to her perfume, she replied JE REVIENS, that was almost 40+ years ago, such is the power of olfactive memory. This fragrance was of it's time vampy and so 'au courant' just before the dawn of the art deco era, the narcissus/jonquil/floral melange combo mix is quite apparant during the terminal drydown eliciting the most exotic almost narcotic effect one would expect from a single flowered plant species discovered on some far flung alien planet, Yes it is that other worldly or perhaps an undiscovered rare orchid found in the interior of the amazon forest, the drydown lasted approximately 10 to 12 hours before finally fading out. For me it's obvious how the more modern eau de toillete pales compared to this parfum/extrait in fact it resembles the recent flanker Je Reviens'Couture' by Worth, I plan to decant some of this into a small vapo spray as this mode of fine metered application will dispense just the correct dosage, if over applied this could become rather cloying & over the top, I will guard this unexpected windfall zealously along with oh so many other favorites in my burgeoning perfume horde, I can certainly attest to constantly scouring eBay, it does have it's rewards from time to time. A definite must for lovers of vintage fragrance... My flacon is a round pale dove grey flask stoppered with a opaline deep sky blue ground glass plug (NOT bakelite or plastic), base details state R. Lalique French bottle 2 fl.oz The presentation box also contains a return ticket with a batch reference number of just over 14,000 examples produced, same on the back of the box+56 grs. I believe this to be a low offering of the parfum, perhaps earlier than the 1940's ? stopper was sealed with a white transparent membrane and tied tightly with a silver thread...

Never heard of this brand before but so happy to have gotten a small 1 oz. bottle for $10.00 with my "vintage bundle" at the flea market last week ! This is the later incarnation EDT. Bottle has a more modern FONT . Really pretty - I LOVE CARNATION and here it stands out with hyacinth , iris and NARCISSUS .... This is Dreamy and not your basic "floral stew" from 60/70 years ago. This has a bright springy character. My poor little one oz. was sitting out in the HOT SUN before I got there too! LOL. She did not get burned ! I tell the IDIOTS at the flea market "You probably do NOT want your vintage perfumes sitting out in the HOT SUMMER SUN" and they look at me like I'm the crazy one! Can you imagine? Oh the humanity . GRADE: B plus plus. If the bottle had a color it would be yellow and violet plaid pattern . Nice dry down too !
